You two are so cute traveling together. You are also lucky to be able to trawl together and get along with each other. China is a big country and with its own unique culture and history background. And at the same time it has gone through tremendous development and modernization during last 49 years or so. You two are lucky in eyewitness all of these. It is so amazing to see the reactions from both of you in response to what you see in China. I wish more people get to know the real China by visiting China for themselves instead of get bias information from the mainstream media.

@@brsvang521 Not sure what you're talking about. "mainstrem media" is currently depicting China as _more_ devloped than it actually is, to fearmonger people into seeing China as the enemy.
Perhaps rightly so, given how eager the Chinese people is eager to display their economic and military prowess, and their apparent disdain towards the west.

In China, a train with a G number is a train with a speed of 300 to 350 kilometers per hour, and a train with a D number is a train with a speed of 250 to 300 kilometers per hour. The train at the beginning of the number C is an inter-city train with a speed of only 200 kilometers per hour. Trains with numbers beginning with K have lower speeds, generally only 160 kilometers per hour.

Some tips for foreign friends traveling to China: Not all Chinese hotels can accommodate foreigners. Hotels usually need to apply for a license to accommodate foreigners, but whether they can accommodate foreigners has nothing to do with the price of the hotel. Generally speaking, mid- to high-end hotels can accommodate foreigners, and entry-level hotels can also accommodate foreigners as long as they apply for a license. Many backpackers come to China to stay in such entry-level hotels. It is recommended to call the hotel to inquire whether it can accommodate foreigners before booking a hotel.

The lies that the news & media about China being a backward Country and the Chinese ppl being oppressed by their government can easily be debunked. If anything we in the UK are more oppressed and backwards and the Tories/SNP are diverting our attention to China to distract us and make us feel blessed that we don't live in China!!

The changes already only 2 years post NSL are really alarming and it's only going to get much worse now.
I think it's safe to say we see things VERY differently.

Because of the large distance between cities and their huge populations, in China, railways mainly take the response for long distance traffic (of course now there are some new intercity lines), and the short distacne traffic is mostly done by metros. So many train stations in China are designed to have a capacity that seems to be excessive, but actually it's not, such massive stations in metropolises are still crowded in the Spring Festival transport rush every year for the workers backing to their hometowns .

hi A&S, to be honest this hotel is generally more suitable for 'budget limited' people, but I still think it is a good idea for you guys to choose to experience it. Also Wuhan is a big city, yet it is indeed different from Shanghai or Beijing, and among the big cities in China, WH is by no means an internet-famous city in good ways. On the contrary, many Chinese on the internet even have many stereotypes, like they think WH people speak too loudly and always feel like they are quarreling/fighting, or WH drivers are also very tough/wild when driving. In fact, bcz Wuhan is located at the intersection of the Yangtze River and the Han River, it has always been a transit place for trade/communion between the north and the south, so it has a relatively stronger wharf culture and not a typical tourist city. It is not as refined as Shanghai, nor as solemn as Beijing, but more of a city for ordinary people's daily work/study/life, and i personally feel that it is not necessary for every big city in China to be equally clean, orderly, and modern, and it should be more interesting to retain its own development imprint and personality. Anyway, glad you chose to visit Wuhan and there are definitely good and bad aspects. If you guys are still in Wuhan and have more free time, i would recommend to take the intercity railway (train numbers start with C) to visit the “smaller cities” around Wuhan, such as Huanggang City, guess that would be a totally 'new' experience lol. take care and enjoy!!

Of course, it's a good option if you want to experience a more local way of life. In my own impression of Wuhan, the people there are very warm-hearted. Although they speak loudly, it doesn't mean they are rude. The drivers in Wuhan have a crazy driving style, similar to Chongqing. The hot dry noodles in Wuhan are delicious and highly recommended. Shannon and Alan, looks like you guys are really exploring places in China and sharing it with the world! I would like to make some suggestions for the rest of your trips in China, 1) English is not prevalent, but young people tend to speak more English as they learn in school as a requirement usually. So try to ask for help or direction from younger looking student whenever possible. 2) if you can leave your email and next destinations in your video, I am sure there might be some freindly and english speaking local Chinese who would organize some hosting and ttour guiding for you guys in advance. Just try it! Best of luck!

      1. High altitudes. Heard several stories ages ago about foreigners lost their lives in Tibet due to altitude diseases, and it is involved diplomatic communications. The travel agencies will have oxygen bottles in the buses/vans.
      2. So many lands without residents or phone signals. Only 5 million people in such a large area, so if one had got lost, it would be difficult to find someone for help. If one had found someone for help, the language barrier will jump in.

Hi Alan & Sharon- UK Chinese here - you guys are brave to stay in a £7 a night hostel. I would never ever do that - these accommodations are for migrant workers looking for low paid jobs. Not they are dangerous but in terms of sanitation and comfort, please don’t.

In fact, there is no problem with hygiene in such cheap hotels. Their cleaning is outsourced to cleaning companies for cleaning and disinfection. From time to time, there will also be random inspections by the Market Supervision Bureau. Once found, they will be severely fined and even have their business license revoked. No business allowed~

@@alanshannon3884You did the right thing. Only by going to a place with a bad environment can we comprehensively evaluate the bottom line of the city. Only by knowing the bottom line of the city can we know about the life of ordinary people above the bottom line. Just like in Western countries, homeless people and ordinary people may become homeless due to certain reasons. The most terrifying thing is that in Western countries, homeless people can still be classified, such as ordinary homeless people, drug addicts, etc., without any bottom line

I think what you are saying is identity card(domestic travel doesn't need a passport),
which, however, only has that feature in the rail system, idk why I will need a boarding pass(prob I need to check-in my bags?), but I can't even do an online check in China.
But still, in the rail system, it is quite useful.
I've been live Italy and Scotland, and Italy also have identity card similar to that where UK doesn't, which is quite weird... as it is really useful tbh.

Please make sure what's the stations you should go where are one hour apart from the other one. Don't mess up your schedule.
