I have enjoyed the process of preparing traps for the season. I really learned more about fur handling from your videos than any other. You have been a great influence in my getting back in trapping years ago. Thanks
Been getting mine done this week! Bait is curing this week and I’ll be putting sets out next week! Keep the vids coming! I bet I’ve watched 10hrs of your content this week. Stay safe
I have some great memories of spending time with my dad cleaning, dying and waxing traps getting ready for the season. I haven't trapped for about 10 yrs now but enjoy your videos and commenting to my dad about this area looks like it would be great for grey foxes or that wood lot would be a great place to catch coons. Hopefully when life slows down again I can get back into trapping.
I used to Dye 300 Coyote Traps, use lye to clean Wax of your Traps. I use a 30 Gallon Barrel inside a 50 Gallon Barrel with a Propane weed burner. Best set up to Dye Traps with!! Use a bucket of Wax and Heat it till it Smokes, leave your Traps in till they Heat up good gives you a nice even think coat of Wax. You can use the Wax for Years just add a little more to it each Years. Cheers!!
Good video ! Not my preferred method ,But like you said it gets the job done .. for those of you who don’t have access to black walnuts or trap dye ,maple leaves do a good job Also ..
Great video as usual. I started out waxing like you do and then seen so many dipping in full wax so i tried it but your way is so much better way less build up. Oh and my 7 yr old daughter loves watching your videos
This is my 2nd year trapping and I have learned literally everything from you! Thank you so much! I am figuring out coons but I am really struggling with yotes. I have Bridger 1 3/4 single springs. I have a lot of fired but empty sets. Is this “enough” trap? Or do I need some 550’s? Would LOVE a video on this topic! Thanks for everything!
Single spring probably isn't enough. If you don't want to tinker with the traps 550 or 650 is good. If you want to get more involved buy some #4 cs traps and 4 coil and Weld them
Anyway it's pathetic UA-cam gives you a problem getting paid but this vid had 3 commercial breaks anyway keep making em and we'll keep watching ty great tips
So I just purchased a steel drum that had antifreeze in it at some point. Cut it in half and the inside looks pretty nasty. Corrision. Hit it with a wire brush and the garden hose but the corrosion is still there. Thinking I don't want to put my traps in there. Any suggestions?
Just graduated my course in December and getting set up. Thanks for your videos - my instructor used Speed Dip. Have you ever tried it? My traps came out very sticky, I may not have had them rusty enough?
Love the vids. It seems like you would be a little more efficient if you pulled them out of the boil and went straight into the wax pot while they are still hot. Do they need to cool in between to set the walnut dye? Is that something that could work? Just brainstorming.
do you add dye to water when boiling? I typically boil post season to remove odors and old wax, then in fall I use walnuts to dye then straight into wax pot.
Not a trapper but looking to maybe get into it. Why do you need to do all of this? Can someone explain the reasoning behind boiling, waxing and dying traps?
On a previous video you mentioned that you were able to pull some PVC pipe from a job site dumpster, if you don’t mind my asking, do you work in the trades? Love your videos! Did a little trapping way back in the day so I really enjoy watching you on your trap line.
Can we get a video close up explaining skinning the ears and eyes of a critter? I have been struggling with that part for years. I have almost figured out the Ears but all my eyes are a disaster
I had problems with the wax being too heavy and flaking off the first time I tried it this way. Let your traps heat longer and it's not a problem. It's all about getting the traps hot before pulling them through.
Trap prep is more work than the actual trapping! I spend weeks of evenings building snares and a full day cleaning and dying RAMs...twice. Great vid.
I am officially waxing and dying for the first time following this video. Thank you for making this tutorial
The hydro dip idea with the wax made my day tomorrow way easier and cheaper!

I just showed a new trapper how to use walnuts. I have dye but walnuts are still my favorite.

Been doing my traps the same way for years also. Cheapest and easiest way by far.
Good video ! Not my preferred method ,But like you said it gets the job done .. for those of you who don’t have access to black walnuts or trap dye ,maple leaves do a good job Also ..
Walnuts are the cheapest dye out there. Just a little time getting them up,but save and dry out them walnuts for holiday baking. Good video man.
Great video, thanks for the wax saving tip. I have for years dipped in straight melted wax, lol.
haven't seen any live for a while you are one of the better ones.in the fur shed
The only part of trapping I hate the prep lol, used to like it doing it but I gotta do it.
TIGHT CHAINS Brotha.

Your wax needs to be Hotter, leave your Traps in the Wax longer so it heats them up more and you will get a thinner coat of Wax. Cheers
Back in the 70s we boiled our traps with black walnuts to kill the shine.

I love you vids dude u help me so much with my trapping needs lol but dude keep it up
I caught a otter
Awesome brother...love the video keep them coming!!!
Have you ever waxed traps while they are "set", I feel this is a better route for overall waxed finish.
👍👍👍
LETS GO BRANDON!!!

Do you only use the trap for one coyote or do you use it for more than one?
How about a video trying different coatings on traps like teflon and the ceramic coating used on some firearms?
do you add dye to water when boiling? I typically boil post season to remove odors and old wax, then in fall I use walnuts to dye then straight into wax pot.
Great vid as usual. Where'd you get that hook on a stick?
👍
Nice job , thanks

Do you need to re- dye your traps every year? Or is it one and done- and just wax
On a previous video you mentioned that you were able to pull some PVC pipe from a job site dumpster, if you don’t mind my asking, do you work in the trades?

Yeah, he said in another video he's a carpenter by trade.
@@chieffan92588 aahhh , he’s a good guy then, I’ve been a carpenter for over 30 years 🔨🪚🔨🪚
@@jeffreyhalet9632,
Carpenter’s that keep their mind are really good people!
Carpenters that trap are the best
@@jessesizemore2934,
Wouldn’t be Surprised!
That is so cool
How do you store your traps after waxing?
Clean plastic totes are fine
Good
what kind of wax do you use for this?
Can we get a video close up explaining skinning the ears and eyes of a critter? I have been struggling with that part for years. I have almost figured out the Ears but all my eyes are a disaster
What water to wax ratio do you recommend?
never had much luck waxing that way , seems to flake off . now use full pot wax

Don,t need wax.
Who taught you all this stuff?
I posted a comment & it was taken down was it because I said coons I don't know why
Stu ain't the type to take down a comment. UA-cam maybe but not sure
@@michaelgallagher4962 thanks for the reply I'm thinking it's some of that bunch messing with me
Cruel jaw traps should be banned and your a sicko if your still using them.
