Brawling (or juggernauting, to be more precise) is becoming my favorite style of play. There's something really exhilarating about taking point during a push with a brawly Atlas or King Crab.
+Matthew Davis For sure! the Atlas is one of those mechs that can really push the front and take the brunt of the enemy fire. It's a great feeling to march towards someone as a moving wall of death :P
Might sound silly but I enjoy the Kit Fox C as a light brawler, using machine guns and some back up med pulse lasers. Good pretty good results so far. Anyway, good tutorial ;)
kinda surprised he didn't point out sticking with his atlas and covering his back until fatlas decides to push. and from there decide to protect the atlas (if he has ecm) or let him soak up the damage in a multiplication of force brawl.
Thanks for this video, as it gave me a good deal of insight as a 2-weeks-in Mechwarrior in MWO. You've got a knack for this sort of thing, and the voice to boot!
Nice video. Btw did you notice that you damaged your legs when you dropped down @7:35. You could have used that single jumpjet you fitted to flare it...
Very awesome vid. I own 9-10 HBK variants, currently running the 3 IIC variants. I love Brawling so your vids are always helpful to me. Thanks and keep up the good work!
One of my favorite brawlers is the CN9-A. With the right build, you can lose 3 components (both arms, one torso) and still have 100% of your weapons and mobility.
Laser based builds can be excellent brawlers too if your definition is short range = brawler. Medium pulse laser or small laser boats for example. Some run cooler than srm6 boats and they don't require ammunition.
The Atles D-DC is the best Juggernaut brawler. You are hard pressed to find a brawler that can go head to head with a DDC and survive. The only 3 mechs capable of a head on braw are Dire Wolf's, King Crabs, and other Atles's. Locusts and light mechs can hide under the gun depression but they will get stepped one.
Question: is it possible to make a *proper* juggernaut brawler? One that can be a true spearhead of an attack and survive under focused fire for reasonably long time. Not "poke and hide behind cover and wait until enemy makes a mistake" kind of "juggernaut".
Yeah, You wait till you see an opening on the minimap and press W. Tell your team "I'll take point in (whatever mech you're in) use me as walking cover" and call your targets. I have an AS7-RS with bolt on flags just for juggernaut brawling. Easy to identify and armor quirks. I usually get 3 KMDD and 600 damage before I either cook or die lol.
I got rid of my Griffon 3M but kept my 2N for the ECM and I ran it with 4 LRM5s, but since the buff to SRMs I switched it to 4 SRM4+Artemis and 2 MLs. I may have to pick up the 3M again after I finish mastering Blackjacks (I find I am enjoying the 3 LPL BJ-3 build and using it to poke. I will find a high place with cover and poke out, snipe, and pull back. I just finished the basics on it and going to start working on the BJ-1 6ML 2 MPL build.
+Kanajashi I have had some good games in it, I also used the 3 SRM4+A 3 ML build of the QKD-4H and did some good damage with it as well. Ever since they buffed SRMs, brawlers have gotten better.
Thanks for the teaching vid on Brawling. I went IS not clan so whats a good brawling IS mech that matches up with the clan TImberwolf brawler? Oh almost forgot; Can the Kintaro be any good at brawling? No one ever mentions it and I havent seen one yet on the battlefield.
+Christopher Hersaint The Kintaro can be an ok SRM brawler, only thing that sets it back is that if you use IS XL engines the side torsos are fairly easy to target and pick off. As for IS brawlers you will find it hard to make something that matches the Timber exactly (its really strong), but you can do something like this: Quickdraw-4H: mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=83&l=9747fe29351c39850e27caffad944d3139c2c733 A fast and mobile quickdraw that has similar weapons set up to the Timber. Watch out as it has an XL engine so spread that damage. Can swap lasers to small pulse for additional close range DPS Cataphract-1X: mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=41&l=eb3d501f01bc8a2eb6420415d6a83efc0232c5ab A little slower ballistic based brawler. The standard engine means you can tank quite well with the left side while keeping the majority of your weapons.
+Olorin323 Hmmm, Good idea. I'll try to put something together. Most likely not as another tutorial video but just me showing off the build and playing a match with a ballistics build.
What are your thoughts about adding NARCs to a brawler build, so that your team's LRMs can effectively provide fire support? I've noticed that brawlers tend to utilize alot of cover, which keeps them from maintaining locks consistently, which, in turn, seems bad for LRM boats.
I know that with some skill, an Orion can brawl well. I just bought the VA for elite efficiency, and people say that this Orion is a good brawler. Any brawler builds?
+TheCyberSpit Toumaline actually has plenty of cover if you know where to look for it. You can take a look at this example game from the F2P series: ua-cam.com/video/tUty3acjj-s/v-deo.htmlm33s Stay near the crystals and let your opponents come to you, or lead the push around one of the far flanks out of sight.
ok this might sound silly but some guys can shoot their weapons separetly even if they have all of them in weapon group 1, how is that possible? Sorry my english :/
+Adolf Hitler Are you talking about when you are spectating people? There is a bug that their weapon groups all show as group 1 yet they have them set up differently.
+Soulai T In mediums Griffins for IS and Stormcrows for clan are great options. I added some example builds to the video description so you can check those out.
Hey Kana long time no see, I havn't played MWO in awhile but isn't the Shadowhawk 2k worth an honorable mention? i believe that was my bread and butter when i was playing.
Also position. Sometimes you end up as rearguard trying to get in that 300 meter range during a Nascar where 4 meds are focusing on you. Unfortunately this video is a bit outdated strategy wise. In terms of tactics, brawling is the same. For me I like to win so I actively stay rearguard in a 90 kph brawler. Mechs like the centurion can walk backwards fast enough to do a fighting retreat. It's gg though if I look around and see LRM potatoes without a single energy port poking out of their mech. At that point I use the allied LRM supernova as cover lol. I'll let them have potato salad. Usually even in the worse case I buy my team time as rearguard to nascar back around to me.
you've wasted 12 points of dmg by not using the tbr-c, imho. with it you could mount 6x spl instead of only 4 (with 4 tons of ammo instead of 6). And I rarely run out of ammo with even 4 tons. surely, it runs hotter but with careful play and good heat management you could do more dmg and get more kills.

Now THAT’S a tutorial! From the top to the end with a clear script, great voice and well shot video. Thank you.
Great tutorial. Steam Players, you need to watch this video and learn from it.

just watched the whole playlist up to date, this. is. great. just all of it.
Very awesome vid. I own 9-10 HBK variants, currently running the 3 IIC variants. I love Brawling so your vids are always helpful to me. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Great video man. My first truly successful brawler has been an Orion VA, and by god is it easy to both use and be effective in

You're definitely a lot more patient with your brawlers than I am. Good play

+BrianLocke The 2N with 4xSRM4 and 2xML is a very strong brawler as well! the ECM really helps it get close to the enemy.
+Kanajashi I have had some good games in it, I also used the 3 SRM4+A 3 ML build of the QKD-4H and did some good damage with it as well. Ever since they buffed SRMs, brawlers have gotten better.

Great info; Thanks again. I will try one of those builds out for brawling. I will just use my Kintaro for NARC aggro.
Christopher Hersaint
The Kintaro is also fairly strong at LRM'ing
Loved it! Thanks for the quick guide from a new player. As a request, could you do a brawling gameplay and build example around a ballistics build?
+Olorin323 Hmmm, Good idea. I'll try to put something together. Most likely not as another tutorial video but just me showing off the build and playing a match with a ballistics build.
+Kanajashi yes! That was what I meant. As an addendum just to cover that side of things. Thanks again!

Narcs can be strong, I wouldn't put one on a heavy brawler but I would put one on a scouting/skirmisher.
I know that with some skill, an Orion can brawl well. I just bought the VA for elite efficiency, and people say that this Orion is a good brawler. Any brawler builds?
Ever considered discussing the Artemis system? How it works, when to use it and when not to?
I go into that a little on my LRM video but I could do it in a separate video with more detail for sure
'memeber modules?
Kana, May I ask for a tutorial for laser brawlers such as Firestarters, Thunderbolts etc?
+Chris Lai (EagleBlitz) Ahh yes those are not so much brawlers but laser strikers. They are going to be the focus of the next video
How do you deal with more open maps like tourmaline?
+TheCyberSpit Toumaline actually has plenty of cover if you know where to look for it. You can take a look at this example game from the F2P series: ua-cam.com/video/tUty3acjj-s/v-deo.htmlm33s

Is Nova not a good mech to brawl with? i am just starting in mwo and i love the many SPLs on Nova but also noticed not many youtubers show it...
deltadia It's strong, but it's VERY hot. Might be why it's not shown as much.
@Kanajashi This just popped up in my recommended. I hope you see this and if you're still involved in the game, your input with PGI is greatly needed.
ok this might sound silly but some guys can shoot their weapons separetly even if they have all of them in weapon group 1, how is that possible?
Sorry my english :/
+Adolf Hitler Are you talking about when you are spectating people? There is a bug that their weapon groups all show as group 1 yet they have them set up differently.
+Kanajashi oh so its just a bug
+Kanajashi he must be talking about chain Fire.
+Adolf Hitler you can press backspace on a weapon group and it will Fire those weapons individualy in a chain.
+Arnav Behari Fire*
Hi kanajashi, Do you know what the best medium mechs are for brawling. i dont have alot of C-bills so i cant buy any assault
+Soulai T In mediums Griffins for IS and Stormcrows for clan are great options. I added some example builds to the video description so you can check those out.
+Kanajashi thanks! I appreciate it!
love it

Hey Kana long time no see, I havn't played MWO in awhile but isn't the Shadowhawk 2k worth an honorable mention? i believe that was my bread and butter when i was playing.
+Stephen SirHecK More durability on other mediums now, Shadowhawks have fallen out of style as of late.
awww :(
Brawling is my favorite thing to do in this game but in my case I feel like luck has a lot to do whether I'm successful or not.
Also position. Sometimes you end up as rearguard trying to get in that 300 meter range during a Nascar where 4 meds are focusing on you.

God i wish the Timber was still this nimble.
Still good advice.
Your C-Bill amount is incredible. How do you do it?
I have played far more than one should >_

thanks, 250. mill c bills geese!
HOW DO YOU HAVE SO MUCH MONEY.
I play way to much. And I do specific things that boost my income. Will make a video soon about them.
