I think arm/leg shielding is a sub class of torso twisting. Then there are another things, the newbies should know: "XL check", "Stick", "Armor sharing", "Overextending", maybe "holding locks", "targetting" (R button), or "weak spots" (similar to crit)

One important thing people who call "Push" omit, is where to push. Call a sector or a nearby geographical reference. Also, don't leave the "pushers" out to dry by hanging back.
push and grup up I think they are important because in other games a new player can do anything without affecting his team, it is enough that he shoots the opposing team, while in MWO being grouped and coordinating a push to the enemy team is important.

Thanks for this video! At around 3:50, you mention "the removal of most of the best IS quirks". Was not aware of this change. Could someone please elaborate?
This all happened over 2016 and 2017. For example the BLR-2C used to be a monster mech until it lost its range and agility quirks. BNC-3M completely lost its energy heatgen quirk which was at 10% before. MAL-MX90 lost ballistic velocity and heatgen. Black Knight 7L lost all heatgen/range and most of laser duration. Plenty of other examples (QKD-4G/5K, AS7-S). If you look through my channel I did videos on the BNC-3M and BLR-2C and you could see how good those mechs were back in the day.
@@BlackhawkSC heat changes also hurt Battlemaster's ability to field ppc's. used to be the main reason to play the Battlemaster hero mech. those changes completely gutted that hero. now most just throw some erml's and some mrm's on the hero, horribly reducing what that mech was supposed to be. not only is it not as good as using ppc's now, most other chassis are better with ppc unless you're just dead set on using ppc's on hot maps. it's really the only use that hero has now.
I’ve yet to understand what “o7” means in pregame banter. There is the standard GL and HF, good luck and have fun but I can’t figure the other one out?
Its an emote, made to look like a person saluting. "o" (the person's head) "7" their arm raised in a salute. sometimes if I see a lot of it in team chat I type "" to represent someone saluting with both arms.
I’ve had issues with a lack of team-play in lots of matches, *especially* recently. It’s really preventing me from getting up in the Tier system (if I try to initiate push or support a push, no one ever backs me up, even if I call it out). I do still have room for improvement, but this is my greatest gripe. Any suggestions?
In the solo queue, I wouldn't expect to be backed up in pushes, although it occasionally happens. That's why midrange peek is preferred there. If you want to try to start a push, try to call it out in comms and wait for people to agree to support you before doing it.
Join a unit. Find a bunch of people who play regularly in your same time-slot, so you always have buddies online when you log in. You should join their discord/teamspeak server. This game is totally different when you've got even just a lance of people working together. I highly recommend you do this. Avoid "chatty units" - Most units are like this. They spend longer chatting than actually in matches, always waiting for someone to do this or that. In-match they might call things out, but they don't actually do tactical stuff together.
Off topic question: is there a way to lock torso? Say I'm twisting it 45 degree and hiding my RT from enemy fire but still want to be able to shoot the enemy with the left hand? With standart settings or arms unlocked I'd still turn to face him exposing the RT, but if there was a way to lock the torso...
Depending on the mech, you sort of can, but you might not find it useful. If your legs are turned far away from your target, and you have rotated your torso towards them as far as it will go, you can move your arms away from your legs and torso without your toso twisting to follow them. Depending on how far your torso can turn, you may have to use free look (default: left CNTRL) to follow them to your target.
you can, indeed been doing this in DRG-1N when it was godlike-quirck-buffed. turned the torso right and the right hand of the 'mech was in the "most left" position. so that enemy wouold see only the left part of the torso (and yes, it was with STD engine, because no point exposing one side of a 'mech with IS XL engine the cons: you need to be very coordinated. it's much harder than I expected
hello, yes its possible, you can move your legs all you need to the right, then move the torso to the left, until stops moving and after that move your arms more to the left to aim at the enemy mech, it would look like they are showing the rear of your mech to the enemy the left torso and only the left arm would be pointing directly to the enemy.

If you've ever seen the Heavy Arms Custom Gundam with the pair of gatlings on each arm *and* the chest-mounted gatlings...then you know what 'more dakka' looks like. :-) (Granted, the HA Custom also carries a lot of missles as well, but it's mostly known for the dakka).
Good question. Yes, that should be mentioned too. VulpisFoxfire, you forgot to mention it is taken originaly from Warhammer 40K universe - the orcs refer to the sound as 'Dakka'. They luv moar Dakka :)
Everything that go boom and dakka is dakka. Mostly referrs to autocannons and lbxs, usually the more rapidfire ones. Just say "dakka" out loud a couple of times xD
Given that it is a term used interchangeably with "heat penalty" and "heat scaling" I guess it's commonplace enough. You've never heard of Dio? I feel fecking old now.
Here you go, your follow-up "Another 10 things..." Roll Armour - Torso twist to spread incoming damage. Share Armour - Expose yourself to take the pressure off of a team-mate. Stick - Mech who has no weapons remaining (Get out there and share armour!). Peeking/Hill-Humping - Using terrain or building cover - or the cover of a hill - to carefully deal damage and quickly shield yourself from return fire (Typically peeking refers to moving laterally and hill-humping is forwards/backwards). Block - When players stand in a location that prevents their team-mates from returning to cover - Don't do this! Rush/Push - When the team all charge out toward the enemy at once, most effective when someone is calling out targets as the push commences. Kite - Using long-range weapons on a fast mech to deal damage to the enemy while maintaining yourself out of their effective range. These would typically be PPFLD weapons to enable better mobility, ie: PPCs/Gauss. The mech would typically have jumpjets/ECM/Radar Dep, but not always. Snipe - Using long-range weapons to deal pinpoint damage to the enemy, often under the cover of ECM. Cook - Using flamers and/or exposing oneself (in-between armour rolls) to encourage the enemy to fire their weapons to cause them to approach overheating. This is particularly prominent in Solaris matches. Spam - Deal continuous frequent damage using weapons that cause screen shake and other disrupting effects, making it harder for the enemy to orient themselves (EG: ACW-1 with 9x SRM2 chainfired).

yea, "stick" is important.
Is "alpha" covered in the tutorial? If not it probably should be here. So should ghost heat.
XL check is a good one
Alpha strike is a BT term, this video just covers MWO community terms so.....
Similarly ghost heat is a synonym for heat penalty, which is an official term.
