  • It should have been simple. But nothing is easy with Old equipment. We have to put the TLB away. Which means driving it 7 miles down the road. But 1st Its DOA, then Fuel problems, then a hose ruptures, then another & then a CATASTROPHIC Blowout at the end.

He needs OR needs a hired man to inspect every piece of equipment before they start it in the morning including checking water and oils.

    Here’s a good tip for mice. When you’re going to store some thing get bounce brand dryer sheets and stick them in all the nooks and crannies all over that equipment, mice and rats I hate that smell. Whenever I pack anything away I put bounce dryer sheets in it and that usually keeps the mice out.

    BTW, once you start fixing leaky hoses, the hydraulic system becomes pressurized like it's supposed to be. Then anything hose wise that is on the edge will let go. Been there, done that.

    Damn Stan good thing you didn’t need it for plowing.
    I just remembered my buddy years ago worked for a tow company. He noticed a leak from somewhere, put his hand on a line and moved the ramp. The hole was under his hand and so small with so much pressure the fluid went right into his hand!! Went to the hospital and he was in the waiting room for a while he started to pass out. They then rushed him into see the doctor and right to the city hospital for sugary. The fluid was in his hand and arm, they had to open up his whole forearm and hand and clean it out. He got pretty sick from it but he’s good now. Never heard of that happening before it was crazy.

    Glow plugs are a mini 12V (resistance) heater that glows red hot when 12v is applied to it. It heats up the air in the cylinders to allow the diesel fuel to ignite in cold temperatures. They are exposed to fuel to some degree, so they do have way more heat cycles than an intake heater would, and thus they wear out quicker.

Middle of the road price and they hold up to the abuse without bending, breaking or camming out on bolt heads like cheaper brands tend to. I could never justify snap-on/mac/matco prices for what's on the market. For misc tool(s) sets harbor freight is just fine. Had good luck with their Icon brand as well as craftsman. And when you inevitably break or lose a tool, it's affordable to replace when snap-off just cost you $$$+ for the one wrench.

    • @seanmcdannel5919
      @seanmcdannel5919 2 роки тому

      thats explains the consistent salt/white stain all the way across 6 the top. could be slight combination of salt from trucks and minerals in the rock exposed to the runoff/wash that evaporates before traveling all the way down. So in sense he is correct moisture falling down the wall could pull minerals out. and Like you said it will only travel 6 feet or so before evaporation. So only the first 6 feet of the wall is exposed, Like Stan Said, to moisture causing minerals to be pulled out of the stone. Orrr You could be right in and its salt with in the water washing down evaporating. Orrrrr IT COULD BE BOTH!!!!! Lets all be winners today. No one is wrong~~!!

      On that machine, you’ll need ~12V to keep it running, since it has an electric fuel shutoff solenoid. It also likely has an electric fuel pump, to move the fuel from the tank to the injector pump. The injector pump likely doesn’t have enough pull to suck fuel from the tank to itself. Or, if it does pull enough fuel to run, it may not pull enough to keep from damaging the injection pump itself.

    A glow plug is a pencil-like device that gets negative and positive energy. Once the key or the glow plug gets the power it will start to heat and get cherry red. once it is red the light will go out and you are able to start the engine by heating the air in the combustion chamber up. A glow plug can either sit at the top of the cylinder or in its own housing in the cylinder head. And if this helps, the reason for the glow plug light is because the glow plug, while it is heating up, will be very hot, and if diesel splashes on it before it is ready it will leave a burn mark and over time will ruin the glow plug. It is very important to wait for the coil light, glow plug light, or wait to start light to go off. Especially in places where it gets really cold. That is the most basic way I can describe a glow plug but also keep it mechanical. I would hope I know how a glow plug works because I work on a lot of diesel engines. Hope this helped Stan.

    Stan I worked as a full time mechanic for years. I had the main brands Snap On, Mac, etc. It came down to what tools I liked the "feel" of for everyday use. I hate the high polish of Snap On wrenches. I was working on dirty and greasy stuff and they where slick to hold on too. I liked Proto wrenches much better. I have several sets that are my Go to wrenches today. As for sockets/ratchets I like S&K. The Knurled handles on their ratchets make holding them with greasy hands much easier. The most used set is a 3/8 drive set that has deeps and shallows in SAE and metric, all in one plastic case # 94549. Around $200 new on EBay. The Proto set/Wrench pack # J1200FASD 5/16 thru 1 1/4 SAE 15 wrenches in a roll pack, on EBay $232 new.

    I have had that issue with at least 10 different diesels over my years of farming and i do always keep spare filters around and have done very much the same thing ... I did learn that the Power Service Tank Cleaner is what you use for long term storage but if you have that much of an Algae issue i would also dump in the Power Service Bio Kleen which will kill and break down the fatty buildup then the tank cleaner will help to move it and the filter will catch it .. I did get smart with that and i mix those in my bulk fuel supply so then i don't have to deal with that ...

    I have gear wrench ratcheting wrenches in both standard and metric, I have craftsman 175 piece mechanics set. Screwdrivers are all Klein tools and I have a 1200 cold crank amp jump pack. Glo plugs are a dud injector they sit across from the actual injector that when you turn the key to activate them an electric current is sent to them and they heat up the air in the cylinder to help ease the starting of a cold diesel. Cummins engines do not have glo plugs but instead a block heater and a grid heater.

    I’ve never had a mechanics type hand tool fail. Stolen? Lost? Left out in the rain by persons unknown? Yup. But outright fail? Nope. That’s why I usually buy the cheap stuff, and several sets of it too.

    Think of a glowplug as the old-style car cigarette lighter. It's the same principle used in a glowplug. You can spray gas on it all day long and no fires will happen. If you apply power to it for 20 seconds it should heat up over the FLASHPOINT of gas and you get flames.

This is also why I replaced 12 hydraulic hoses on my skid steer after I had to replace the hydraulic pump. They weren’t leaking, but looked really sketchy and I’d hate to have all that brand new hydraulic oil go all over the ground when a hose blows.
