- Опубліковано 6 лип 2024
- It’s astonishing to realize that Rust has been part of our lives for over a decade. Many players today might not have even experienced or seen the original Rust legacy. This video will take you on a journey through Rust’s evolution, from its legacy origins to the annual updates that have shaped it into the game we know today. I hope you find as much enjoyment in watching this video as I found in making it.

this brought a tear to my eye
Im honoured 😥
Wow bro this is like a movie.
@@Kelsin-lq3yq this fr feels like a movie
the timeline really all merges together after so long, you forget how long the journey has been to get to where we are today
Oh boy, so much has changed and yet it does not feel like anywhere near 10 years ago. Im just grateful I have recorded so much footage early on. Im sure you have a load of recorded clips of moments that you will be able to fondly look back on thanks to doing UA-cam.
Crazy how far rust has come. A lot of other studios should look up to facepunch
Console edition weeping in the corner
Microsoft looked into acquiring them at one point.
A lot of people think that the game has gone backwards in certain ways, it's something I read a lot.
@@Philip_Taylor if you implement changes there will always be people that dont like them especially if the are really invested
@@Philip_Taylor it's a vocal minority, because the game is busy being one of the most played games on steam still with a far higher population than it ever used to have. the raw data speaks for itself. there's also always a bias towards negativity in comments. the people who are happy with the game are playing it, the people who like to complain about everything are spending a far greater amount of time being negative in comment sections which are always negative biased as it is.
This is beautiful work, Jfarr. Top quality story-telling, pacing, and editing. Very impressive.
Thank you Mikki and glad to hear you think so :)
Criminally underrated video and channel, thanks man for making me relieve the nostalgia step by step, keep doing what you’re doing.
Thank you so much Flen. Happy to hear I could take you back through some good old memories :)
I am 63, i wish those games had been there when i was a kid.
All we had was, ping-pong tennis.
Wow, awesome to see you still have a love and passion for gaming. I know me and many others envy a lot of the experiences you have been through that we never had the opportunity to see. Would be crazy from your perspective to see the changes in gaming and how graphics has evolved over the years.
Wow you had ping pong? What a richer, we only had sticks
you have em now! Lets game lad
I came from Rust Legacy in 2014, for me it was simply my favorite game and it continues to be. The current rust is good, but nothing compares to the old one, I spent 8 thousand hours on that game.
In Brazil, the game's code was broken, so it was basically free and had a LOT of unofficial servers. It was the game that introduced me to the survival game scene, which I love and make my life based on, it was the game that made me interested in opening a Steam account and learning about other games.
Without a doubt, Rust Legacy was part of my childhood in such a way that I can't explain it, there were thousands of friends who left, others who stayed, but certainly a feeling of nostalgia that, in a very strange way, is beautiful.
Unfortunately I didn't get the start of the new rust, which at the time we called it experimental, as the key was expensive, but if there's one thing I did in 2018 it was buy the current rust, and even though I don't play it often , it was a way to support Facepunch for something as important to me as rust.
"Thank you for reading my blog"
8k hours in rust legacy alone?
@@sc-mh3jj Nah, i have friends since the day one. Rust Legacy in Brazil was a Big thing.
Man rust legacy was iconic for me in so many ways. The sound track, the bag opening sound, the hit markers, every gunshot, the axe hitting stone and trees. It all fills me with so much nostalgia.
Wow, this must have taken a long time. Keep the good work!👍
Legend, thank you for all the support RanDom. Video has taken over a month of continous work to get done. However, it was a lot of fun making as I could experiment throughout the whole process.
i couldn’t believe my eyes, a 50 minute Jfarr video! this is a really great watch
Hahaha, thanks. When I saw the final video length I couldn't believe my eyes either.
Beautiful video jfarr, your editting is goated
Thank you ButerandToast :)
Wow man. December 28th 2015 i bought rust and ARK for 20 euros with my Christmas money , I really wish i played more back then but i was... wow. I just thought about it now, i was just 11 years old and i remember being to scared to leave my thatch and wood home because of all the geared players, i would go out with just a rock to get some nodes (when you got everything from one rock!) and then go back and gather my courage up to go outside again, but then a bear was outside and i was so scared because i didn't have a sleeping bag so i sat in my thatch house for hours haha!
Really made me think of when I first bought this game, like late 2015, it has come a long way from when i watched videos about it before buying, starting playing, leaving the game, coming back, leaving, coming back and rinse and repeat! Rust has become iconic.
Started playing in 2022. From this video now I see where all the game's depth is coming from. And not only from the devs putting care into it 10 years after, but the players and youtubers playing and covering it too. Thank you, Jfarr!
You are really great at making videos. You have amazing skill. I hope we will see much more from you because you truly have something special.
Thank you Magnus. I can definitely see more story driven/cinematic/retrospective videos like this in the future. Some of these techniques may even get incorporated into a gameplay video.
The older maps were so much more interesting than those we currently get.
Oh man, finding some of those old images makes me so nostalgic for them. Sure they werent hyper realistic, but the map had so much character and interesting landmarks.
Straight up. map seems pretty boring now same thing just different map shapes some have certain monuments some don’t wish we had different kind of maps or add different biomes
Maps are so flat now it’s boring
100% & also I miss jumping up the side of cliffs, which you can't do anymore, even if it looks physically possible. Bring back old map gen!
Hey jfar hope your good first time commenting on a video. Just wanna say a huge thanks because now I know how to do basic light electrics in rust and I hope you have a happy new year.
Nice to meet you mate and I'm glad to hear the electricity guide helped you out. Have a great new years yourself :)
this video brings so many old memories. Great work
Thank you and glad the video could open back up some of those memories :)
I never played rust but this video is amazing good work 🧡 keep up 😁👍
Thank you Zayn, will do :)
As a player that only got the game 10 days ago, watching a video showing 10 years of hard work from both the game dev and Jfarr is beyond amazing. Happy 10 years Jfarr, all your videos a really helpful and fun to watch.
Thanks for the kind words mate and welcome to Rust. I would recommend taking as many screenshots and recordings within your early days as you can. There will come a time when you will want to look back and soak in the funny/nostalgic moments where it all started.
I've spent 800+ hours in Rust Legacy. Best best gaming hours in my life. Thank you for paying the tribute! Long live Rust!
Amazing stuff. Honestly got choked up there at the end. Well done.
crazy to see it change over the years starting long before I ever played. as a lifelong gamer and game dev for 12 years, its so hard for me to get excited for new things in gaming and I often wonder if that feeling is still possible, but directly on the other side of that are old games that can be a part of our lives for 10+ years... and for who knows how long? that wasn't even imaginable a few decades ago.
It's genuinely insane how long it's has already lasted, especially from something that was so basic. I think legacy was a good thing because it gave the developers a proof of concept, giving them more time to review and structure a maintainable code base for the future, based on the mistakes they already made. I applaud the developers for building a system that hasn't completely fallen apart after 10 years from spaghetti code and still allows them to push out major changes relatively quickly.
I’m past that stage where games feel all nostalgic and magical, but I’m stoked to see what the next 10 years of Rust and game dev in general will bring. And it’s wild that 60 bucks can get you a decade of content.
I missed your vids bro. When I started rust 2 years ago i was watching all your tutorials, your vids have been my go to for info. Just want to say I appreciate you and more.powernto the chanel.
I remember watching UA-camrs play Rust back in 2017, and wished I could play it. I didn't get a working pc that could 'handle' Rust until 2022 just after the combat update, and only got fully immersed into the game in 2023 because I got my friends playing it and made new friends on PvE servers. I can't wait to see what new things come out this year, and how many improvements get added.
Thanks for all of the amazing tutorial videos! I've learnt a lot just from watching content creators such as UA-camrs; Hjune, Frost, Blooprint, Steve, Willjum, Ser Winter, Mr Flak, ShadowFrax, Disfigure and now Jfarr. Love the community
Mate congrats on the vid, amazing video and as always thank you for your content :D
Cheers Magen and glad to hear you you enjoy the content :)
Probably one of my favorite rust videos of all time. Thank you so much for making it, as I came into the rust scene late, and started on the console version. This video made me feel like I was apart of the entire journey. I love the game, the good and the bad lol. Cheers to many more years 🎉
I've been playing Rust for over 8 years, I started literally as 10 yo kid, after those years, after many thousands of hours and few friendships that last to this day, this video really gave me strong nostalgia :)
What a huge video! The time lapse and the music at the end truly sent shivers down my shine! Big ❤ for you! I have a feeling, that this will be your biggest video ever!
Thank you Sebastian and it was quite a wild ride for myself working on this video and going through all the memories.
Your guides and tips helped me to the harsh world of rust. Have a good one dude
Cheers mate and glad I could help get you through some of those painful times in rust. Hope you have a good new years :)
You are definitely the most underrated rust UA-camr bro every video is a banger
Thank you Peet, glad you think so :)
Thanks for sharing this with us. I've just passed my 1 year anniversary of playing Rust, and have always been curious about its history.
My most memberable Rust wipe was during legacy. There was a tiny 3x3 island that was surrounded by water. There was a tiny little spot of land that connected to the main continent, and that allowed you to jump to the island. Since touching water killed you instantly, you could build a 3x3 tower on this island, and no one could build up next to it, or get on top of it, so they had to raid from the bottom up. There was also no stability, so you could build really high. I still have no idea what the build limit was.
I built a 3x3 tower on that island, that went 20 - 30 stories high ( I don't remember how tall, but it was really tall). There was a smaller base in front of the island on the mainland that served as an "airlock" to the tower, and it also served as a flank base. Each level of the base was a 3x3 maze of doors, before it went to the next level. The first time someone tried to offline they base, they made it about 5 levels up (40ish doors). I don't remember how much time it took to get that much boom, but it was significiant. The raiders ended up getting nothing.
I was the base builder, but I had a group that was constantly going out and pissing off everyone on the server, which made us rich, but also alot of enemies. The wipe ended with the server admin organizing a serverwide online raid against our tower. We won the raid barely, but the base got offline'd the next day (done in a way I suspect it was the admin, but he gave us a cool online raid, so fair trade).
They didn't get all the loot though. After the online raid, and before we got offline'd, I had hidden some loot on the ground part of the island, just outside the base, inside some small loot bags. They were kind of like the stashes in the game now.
Haven't experienced anything like that since.
Been playing since 2019 and while I feel like a veteran, seeing this makes me realize I'm still a noob and missed a lot by joining so late.
This is some TOP TIER content, I am glad I found your channel a few years ago.
Awesome video, perfect pacing and high tier editing. Here's for 10 more years!
Thank you for the kind words Putte and glad to hear you appreciate the effort put in. Happy new years and here's to an exciting 10 more years as well.
Something I noticed in around 2022 is that so many good games i loved to play have been reaching its 10th year anniversary which could really make you realise how all these old games were so much better before all the 60 dollar games coming broken or just money hungry games.
Brilliant stuff as always brother. Hopefully this gains some more traction. Really deserves it
I've only had the game for just over 18 months and only heard about it just over 2 years ago, even I'm getting a little emotional seeing how much the game has changed since I started watching/playing it! I'm 1200 hours in and loving it! I wouldn't be where I am today without the help of your Tutorials Jfarr! This last year when you upgraded the visuals again, it looks so professional and lays it out simpler for newer players, can't wait to see what Rust and your channel brings in 2024
Awesome, thank you for putting in the work!
Great video, sitting here doing some work waiting for the wipe and watching this GEM.
Thanks mate, hopefully the work went well and still surviving the rust wipe :)
This deserves way more views keep up the good quality content bro
Super interesting. As a guy who started playing early 2021, the history of rust provided is much appreciated.
Cheers.
A part of me really misses that air of mystery Rust had in its early days. You felt compelled to go out and explore and see what was around. Really looking forward to what the new year has in store for us and the game, looking forward to more videos from you man
Brilliant editing!
I can feel the nostalgia through this video, even though I wasn't there during Legacy. Thanks for giving us a glimpse of how great it would have been!
Creators like yourself enhance our experience by providing exclusive and critical information on the game. I've been hooked on the game since I first played it and have embraced all the updates brought in, even when controversial, as it's often for the good of the community and to open up new possibilities. As you mentioned, the game wouldn't be there if it weren't for all its updates, making it less hardcore.
A little note on cars: they seem to be way underrated. We are starting to see them a lot more on Aus servers, and I really like how certain groups use them as their core strategy to roam or perform raids! I convinced my own group to use them, and since then, they have become an essential part of our compounds - remaining one of the safest ways to transfer a large amount of loot over long distances and to recycle safely at safe zones with substantial cargo. I think what really pushed them lately was the code lock, being a game-changer for safety.
Would love to bump into you one day! Looking forward to the next video
Thank you for the kind words Valentin and glad to hear the video could give some insight into the old game. I should definitely give cars another try with the more recent updates and deck it out with the armour. Code locks are definitely game-changing to the cars and could end up even making a video about the best strategies for using a car.
This was an amazing video dude! Great job!
Cheers mate ✌️
I knew this was going to be a banger video! Nice work man, it's wild to see how much this game has changed!
Thanks Soopa and the speed of progress and how much has changed is definitely wild
you really hit this out of the park man, I really appreciate the content you make. Keep it up man❤
Thanks for the trip down the memory lane. ❤
Glad to hear I could take you there :)
Loved this one man nice one. Nailed the nostalgia imo
Great video man ,your videos are really always top quality ,really appreciate facepunch for top quality updates mostly but watching this video and realising i have been playing this game for yours made me feel much older :)
Man, you just made me review some memories when i was a kid and playing rust experimental on my tv, this was so much dope !
have a good one, I love your tutorials vids
dang i've only ever seen your tutorials. the editing and writing on this are really good! great vid jfarr!!
Thanks Hunter :)
even if i only have bin playing rust for 1 year now ive still met all lot of friends in the game and i hope to make my own story in the rust world
btw i always look forword to your videos after a new wipe
Cheers Babbabi and I recommend recording and taking screenshots for as much as you can. Will always be great to look back on the early days and watch the funny moments or see the screenshots of a base you built. Then it might also come in handy if you decide to make a retrospective video of your story :)
I have waited so long for this vido...Thank you!
High quality,Very well produced, the editing is so good , thank you ❤❤
Thank you, I appreciate the kind words Jafoor.
very much appreciated footage here, good work! :D
I started playing in early 2021. It's so crazy to see all that I missed. I still remember the day I logged in and graphics had been updated... I yelled to my friend in Discord that the mushrooms looked weird and the small sulfur nodes looked gross.
the nostalgia is crazy, I've been a fan for 2 years now, even met you ingame lol! keep up the great content.
Wow, thanks for the long term support mate. Haha, how long ago was this when you met me in-game?
This video was amazing. Thanks for telling your story!
Really made me feel like I was there gave me the chills I played console on release until now I’ve always watched rust but something just brings u back to ur first ever wipe
thanks for this video, i cant comprehend how it must be for u and others that played since legacy, however i have been playing for around 5/6 years now. its crazy to think about that. i remember not knowing how to get a gun or build, and now me and my little brother play this amazing game together and bond. i had a big break in 2020, and came back about 10 months ago, i am so happy that i gave it another shot. i will always love rust.
Can’t wait for more chill rust wipes on brutal servers :) Great video ! Love your vids! Been a great game for me for many years, here is to many more ! 🎉
Cheers mate and thanks for the suppprt. Heres to a great new years and many more :)
Incredible video bro, the hours of work you put into this video payed off, I started playing in 2020 So it was great to see what the early years were like. BIG UPPS
If it werent for you i would have been just another screaming naked getting farmed on the beach. I appreciate all the time and energy youve put into this channel and i hope your future is bright
Haha, thanks for the kind words Ryan and I'm glad the videos have helped you out. Hope you have a great new years :)
I always enjoy watching your fun and informational content. Keep up the good work bro 🎉🎉
I have said it before and say it again. Your videos are so high quality and good. You deserver much more subscribers
Thank you and it makes me happy to hear you think that :)
Loved the video! I started playing rust in 2020. It was super interesting seeing the history of rust.
Thanks mate and I think it would be so interesting to have started when you did and later find out where it all came from / how much has changed.
I absolutely love this video
The rust lore is so interesting
Thank you Kushy and sure is
i love the transition from 2015 to 2016
I started in 2018. And I feel like that was the right time to get into rust.
Dope ass video ive been waiting for this type of vid for a while
Longest i have ever waited in a server que for any game 7 hrs!!!......... Worth it! May the next decade be as great!
Beautiful video. Makes me wish I was there. I only started playing at the end of 2019. But Rust ages like fine wine. Facepunch understands the playerbase and what the game needs better than most other studios and they are very passionate, improving the game month by month.
I miss the days of building on monuments, the "profile talking box" at the bottom of the screen where you see the profile icon of the player as they talk, massive zerg raids that took hours to complete with both sides exchanging rocket fire, screaming when downed and the pre-TC days where you can cover a base with spike traps just to gried them. Those where the days when Rust was something special.
Super underrated video, hopefully this will get the recognition it deserves
My earliest memories of Rust had to have been around late 2016, early 2017. I built this decently large house. Two floors and upstairs windows without any kind of bars. I remember dying, someone finding my house, getting in the upstairs windows somehow, and killing me with my one internal door open.
I started playing back in 2017 when i got a laptop at school, and played only a little and had around 200 hours by 2021, now I play a lot more with my little brother who I have taught everything too but it is really crazy to see the massive changes to the game
such a well made video man
Well done as always Jfarr.
Thank you Whytlyon :)
Good video so far!, good job jfarr
Thank you Samuel, hope you enjoy the rest :)
I discovered and played Rust during it's browser phase. This was such a great watch, thank you!
Amazing video bro well done ❤
7:46 in and I’m already liking and commenting which I never do on a post like ever but this is a awesome video your speaking great
Cool story bro and thank you for the electric guides you have helped alot
Thanks mate and glad to hear the videos helped you out :)
you gave me a lot of beginner knowledge to start rust, and i have 6.5k hours now. thanks for everything
And that was the story of how jfarr got the best guide channel for rust ❤❤
ur rlly creative and good at explaining nice job
My memory is really bad but seeing this brought so much nostalgia and great memories back 😊
I started the game in 2020 and learned a lot thanks to your videos. So thank you Jfarr
Cheers, always happy to help mate :)
Amazing video as ever! Congratulations!
Thank you David :)
I didn't play the game for some time, and this video is very helpful to see what changed in case I want to go back.
I have only been playing a short time. I remember watching my RL best friend Maddax playing back in the red irradiated animal days. He messed around with it, mainly building, and eventually moved on to many, many other games. I never left Everquest / Everquest 2, and later Villagers and Heroes. Fast forward to 2022, when Rust videos began coming into my UA-cam feed. I remembered the game from way before, and it looked pretty interesting and I wanted to try it. Before I could ask my best friend if he wanted to pick it back up again, he unexpectedly passed away. I was given his PC by the family since playing these games together was our thing. I sparked up his steam account and found Rust, and have been playing on his PC under his character name since July 2022.
I have kept his name because it makes me behave myself a little more. I wouldn't do anything to sully his name.
Wow, that's a touching story. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend Maddax but I love how you have responsibly continued his legacy. You both sound lucky to have known each other and I hope things have gotten easier for you.
Jfarr Your the Best do not stoop !!
Great video. I am interUsted in your take on bases. I hope you do make that video.
wow it feels nostalgic for me even tho i was not here back in the days, ur voice was soooo different as well lol
i wish H1Z1 could'v follow the same path
amazing video m8, thx for the travel
Cheers mate and haha yeah tried a different tone for parts of the video. Don't get me started on H1Z1 though. It could have been so good and we played so much of it. Sad to see it was killed off for the battle royal mode that ended up dying anyway.
@@JfarrYT well they add 2 masterpiece in hand with realy unique gamplay , kotk is still to this day my favorite shooter game
but daybreak is a retarded company anyway
im playing h1emu rn its pretty good and almost finished if u wanna try the good old h1 back
anyway rust is still solid and love it , thx for those vids man , u realy helped the noob rust player i was
GOD BLESS THE RECOIL UPDATE!
This was a beautiful video man
Thank you NightShine :)
Awesome video! I cannot imagine how long it took to create it. ggs
Thank you and it was quite the mission to do. It has taken over a good month from start to finish to get done.
I have absolute respect to Facepunch for such a wonderful game and job! They really have dedication and love for their game! I cant see any other game developers who communicates that much with their own players. I love this game. I had so much fun with my friends within 7k hours. Before playing Rust I spend a lot of my free time just watching youtuber movies in Rust. I even bought a PC just to play Rust. At start of my Rust, I had mixed emotions as I did not understood it was just a game. Now it is way different. I am just having fun playing, trying new things, helping new players. Love Rust! ❤
Edit: I suppose it was all of your videos and I guess it was you laughing in all them shorts. Such an innocent laugh you had/have. 😊
This makes me wish I got to play legacy rust. Crazy how much the game has changed. Great video!!!
Thank you Phoenix and its insane to see the changes over the years. I really hope one day there is a populated vanilla legacy server where we can relive the experience again.
