If I had to give 3 quick and extremely easy tips to help against offline raids if you're a solo or small group: 1- grief your own base with wood before logging off: looks like your base is already raided; 2- don't build tall bases: tall bases are easier to spot and usually make people more curious; 3- do not build a compound: compounds make offline raiding easier and counter raiding harder.
As a veteran with several thousand hours I already know pretty much everything in your videos but I still enjoy watching them because of your high production quality and good editing. Keep up the good work my man
Great video! I would also add leaving your compound gates/doors open if you dont have compound turrets when you go offline. This will greatly help counter raiders with possibly saving your base. Otherwise the compound walls will provide cover for the raiders to finish their job in peace. Once you have turrets, then you could keep the gates closed to prevent grubs from draining your turret ammo while youre offline.
Many of the points noted here are important, but you should also highlight HOW people usually raid. 1. The majority of raids (90%+) are going to be offline. It's pretty rare you'll actually get an online raid unless you're on some big active vanilla server with zerg clans. 2. Most raiders prefer to raid through the doorpaths, but will resort to rocketing walls and roofs if they think it will be easier to get in. Fake entrances is a way to absolutely troll people. 3. Most raiders pummel at ground level if they're using rockets because that's usually where they're standing. I prefer to put my TC and loot on the upper levels of the base. I've made clan bases where the entire first two floors are just walls and people waste all their boom trying to pummel where they think the tc is. 4. If you have a shooting floor on your base: that is often your main weakpoint. I've seen and been in plenty of raids where people blow a hole in the shooting floor, ladder up, and basically take over the base. I prefer to make my roof the main shooting floor. 5. There's a lot of good base designs that go against the typical norms. Look up Mavericks redoubt base and you'll see it's a "coreless" base with no main loot area. It's all spread out in 3 different bunkers the raiders need to play russian roulette to find. 6. You can use deployables to beef up your bases defense at no cost. You can spam lockers and pick them up with a hammer after.
Thanks for the excellent tips. I know I'm likely going to get offline raided without being able to protect myself, so I love the tick door or multi bunker concepts. Makes it that much harder for the raiders.
i have been onlined 4x in my 120 hours on the game lol. 1st was a 2v6 raiding our base about the size of a 2x2 with airlock, they died to shotgun traps like 20 times but we ultimately lost, second was a 2v3 but on stevious so they had rockets on hour 4, loss. 3rd was a 2v2 were we won. 4th was 1v2 and lost.
The pipes on top of industrial lights or whatever else you can attach them on top of is the best way to keep ppl from laddering over a wall or up the side of your base. If there is a gap between the pipe and the wall, it will not let a ladder be placed.
In my opinion your the best explainer ive ever seen, you create your videos so, that everybody can understand em. Also the effects and editing is nice. I Love your videos, keep up❤
Thanks for all your videos, im new to Rust, playing on PS5, and as a "noob" it's been a real challenge, i've watched a lot of help videos but yours are the only one's that really help and resonate with me. I'm really enjoying the game, and whilst I get raided at least twice a week and often lose my base, im getting better and better each week with better bases and better strategies, and most of it is down to your videos, so thankyou! :)
I’ve got over 1k hours on rust console and the one big thing to keep in mind is pc is vastly different from console, most big groups on console will search the ENTIRE map to raid EVERYTHING in their sight so no matter how small your base is or no matter where your base is built sometimes getting raided by a massive group is inevitable.
@@johnwainwright4265if you need help hmu bro I got a team and we don't mind picking up a player we like destroying the big teams who go after the little guys
Another great thing is to connect your batteries into 1 circuit. If 1 battery gets destroyed you still have power to all turrets. The worst thing to happen in a online raid def is to loose your roof/ compound turrets just because they destroyed the batteries.
Iirc the base at 3:20 doesn’t work anymore. Because the fire of inc rockets or Molly’s can now destroy the twig and open it for raiders. Was always my favorite. Has there been a change back?
Hey @Jfarr, first nice video. One thing is not quite correct (10:20), you can not connect two or four sams to the batteries. There is no passthrough, so a branch or splitter is needed, these also need power so that this is then missing. Example a large battery gives 100 current, 4 Sams need also 100, only the current for the splitter is missing. Thanks and keep up the great videos! Should I be wrong with it I apologize ;)
Thanks Kitzmann. The SAM Sites do have a passthrough node on the side along with a has target, low ammo, and no ammo node. This allows me to connect the four SAM sites together into the one battery.
@@JfarrYT Ok I am too much in practice there. For example, a switch ( smart switch) is always connected in between to turn off the Sams. Also, these are too far apart and it is still an intermediate piece needed to extend the cable. Therefore, no four Sams on one battery. But this does not make your video wrong in theory it works when there is a passthrough after all. Thanks and keep up the good work :)
@@kitzmann7216 Thanks and you're still right that players will likely be placing a switch or other circuit device between the SAM site and battery. Its my mistake as I should have mentioned this in the video a part from the raw electrical values.
one thing i would add is using shift while placing external walls for an alternative view and movement , but i really suck at connecting compounds , thank god i play on servers with /remove :D
1) upgrade before you leave, most of raids 90% are offline raids during night.. (people know when you offline/online) 2) external TC, if you solo you need base, loot you can find any moment so be prepared to come back 3) No main loot, i said NO! i know it sounds crazy, but if you have loot in external TC room, or shop and also in main.. if someone raid you you have insta comeback 4) Place multiple workbenches.. 5) learn how people raid, and never leave loot behind wall you think they will get trough 6) keep friend around, if you play solo you can always make friend and be two bases defending each other 7) slow down raiders, teams having unlimited resources (i solo raid on vanilla with 15c4, today i wiped bunkeer, it means you need traps, flame showtung, barricades everything to slow down process, time is limited for everyone. 8) place sign - Raided by ...... someone who is active in chat 9) build or keep raid base close - people will think you raided 10) if you solo place one fake doors with codelock - they will not sure if you raided or not 11) Right now worst enemy is MLRS - not every solo is able to get sam site or want to do eletricity - focuse on your roof build (i saw today base falling apart, and also used them to weakened enemy base - 6 rockets destroyed so much
Just tested and you're correct. I guess the concept for the bunker base mentioned in the video is still valid but that specific way to go about it should be avoided. Maybe if you really wanted that design to work, you could upgrade the half wall to stone and jackhammer it down when you log back in. However, probably better designs where you don't have to do this. Thanks for the heads up.
i build a small 2x1 base with a shooting floor and compound with turrets only around a 40 rocket raid but i hook up smart alarms to the turrets so i know when im getting raided so im never offlined, as a solo ive defended against full squads thanks to the base
Rule number 1 -- Do not do the builds you see on youtube, they are full of holes and people can check videos for the base you have build to find a tc easy Rule number 2 = Use the snail door base. Make your base door entrance on 3th floor and make all doors go in circle araund the top honeycomb, then dropdown to 2nd floor going to second layer of base again snail araund the base with doors and then only on last floor you go to the tc. This makes the door costs higher than going via walls. Rule number 3 = Use high quality metal on top of roof... no seriosly, its better protection than usless sam sites Rule number 4 = DO NOT USE WINDOWS, instead use bunker style ones (2x small wall, remove small one, add very small one after) and use double metal doors on each side to make lines smaller, this will also prevent any eco raiding with spears inside, as there is no wall to hit. Its perfect defense for rooftops (and for growing weed). Just keep your boxes away from hands. Rule number 5 = use mines... no seriosly mines saved me so much in this game. Rule number 6 = make a core of base for electric part (that leads to tc after) as you can set up turrets to keep running on gas if they destroy your wind turbines or whater you got on top. You should keep sensor turrets with doors closing inside your base and this seriosly slows down any raiders as if you set it right, not even a rocket will help them
Haha, I think your idea for a new dedicated video on base building is still warranted. I could talk about the wall tiers, building bunker bases, trap bases, how tool cupboards work, and so on. The previous one is four years old now and could do with a freshen up.

Hi there Mr @JfarrYT may i ask you a question how this editing trick call, in 0:35. It looks like several cams footage and then combined in one but im a bit confused as a newbie in editing. Thanks in advice✌
I recorded a demo of two characters, one wearing a Hazmat suit and the other wearing metal gear, standing together for about 5-10 seconds. Without moving my mouse, I killed the character wearing metal gear. Then, I recorded the Demo recording using OBS in the position you see in the video. In DaVinci Resolve, I duplicated the clips so that one was layered above the other, with the clip of the Hazmat character after the metal-geared guy was killed on the bottom. Using a magic mask on the top layer, I separated the metal gear character from the background, leaving only a transparent clip of him on the top layer. This allowed me to control when he disappeared by simply cutting off his layer. You can also achieve a similar result without masking by using a simple crop with soft edges, so the top layer with the metal-geared guy is cropped left 50%. So only the right side is remaining, therefore, allowing you to see the hazmat guy on the left and the metal guy on the right. However, this only really works if you have a non-dynamic background, otherwise, you will see the clouds or water move/not be aligned with the other clip. Hope this made sense and could help :)
