MTV was "better" in 2000 than it is in 2020 (at least it still had *some* music in 2000), but a far cry from how awesome it used to be in the '80s and '90s.
I’ll have to find the exact source but I believe he said in an interview that Foo Fighters wouldn’t be nearly as big as they are now if it weren’t for Napster.
My early 2000s memories: MP3, Napster, Winamp, Realplayer, Playstation 2, Dreamcast, Max Payne, Perfect Dark, Crazy Taxi, Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Memento, Gladiator, Eminem, Limp Bizkit, Nsync, Britney Spears, High Fidelity, Donnie Darko.
I don't understand why everyone is so against Lars and Metallica on this. They were absolutely right, as far as I'm concerned. Think about whatever job you have. Now imagine if people started exploiting your services for free. You would no longer be getting any money for what you do. You would be upset, wouldn't you? Now imagine that people started calling you greedy for having no income from your job. Sounds ridiculous, doesn't it. And before you say that Metallica already has enough money, look at the big picture. This is beyond Metallica. There are new bands just starting out, who don't have a lot of money. If they aren't getting any money from people buying their music, how is the band supposed to get anywhere? And eventually, there would be no musicians. Or at least, it would be harder to hear them because the industry would be destroyed. So next time you're about to post that comment hating on Lars for speaking out, just think for a minute about this.
I was one of many users to get banned from Napster because of Metallica. All because of three mp3s. Later moved on to Morpheus and Kazaa until I eventually learned about torrents.
Bruce Dickinson at that time said that the fans are the reasons about their success so whoever wants to download their music because they want to listen to it, should just do it. More or less that was the comment

When you look at the price of concert tickets, you realise in hindsight that Lars was right.
Metallica's war with Napster is how I found out about Napster, which is also when I stopped buying Metallica's (and everyone else's) music.
Lars owes me $10 after watching this.
I drank out of Lars Ulrich's Perrier glass last week when I saw them. I felt like Marlon Wayans at that moment.
How did you manage that?
Lars: Hey boys!
Narrator: To titania's greater glory!
now id like to see Dave mustaine's parody to this
wow instant nostalgia
This brings back memories of when MTV use to be good
MTV was "better" in 2000 than it is in 2020 (at least it still had *some* music in 2000), but a far cry from how awesome it used to be in the '80s and '90s.
I wonder if I can summon lars by using Napster.
Metallica should get trolled for this still to this day!!!
Dave Grohl is the opposite.
And that's why he's awesome.
I’ll have to find the exact source but I believe he said in an interview that Foo Fighters wouldn’t be nearly as big as they are now if it weren’t for Napster.
Frat boy: HOW DID YOU GET IN MY HOUSE
Lars: my mom now
Those of us that used Limewire found out downloading music wasn’t as great as we thought it’d be.
My early 2000s memories: MP3, Napster, Winamp, Realplayer, Playstation 2, Dreamcast, Max Payne, Perfect Dark, Crazy Taxi, Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Memento, Gladiator, Eminem, Limp Bizkit, Nsync, Britney Spears, High Fidelity, Donnie Darko.
Miss those days ;'(
No limewire?
@@fnfn9199 I did use Limewire much later, but it slowly faded away from using it, because I still buy music and collect them (CD and Vinyl)
So next time you're about to post that comment hating on Lars for speaking out, just think for a minute about this.
live performances
A group of people do take our money. They're called the IRS.
Lars the original Mr. Steal Yo Girl
yes
Mr. "Share" Yo Girl
Now he has to wait a few months for his gold plated shark tank bar. 😢
It's funny cause Dave clearly told ya'll 2 not use his music when ya'll kicked him out & ya'll still did that! 🤷♂️😂
I was one of many users to get banned from Napster because of Metallica. All because of three mp3s. Later moved on to Morpheus and Kazaa until I eventually learned about torrents.
By the makers of "Don't tread on me" that ask daddy state help to close Napster
Bruce Dickinson at that time said that the fans are the reasons about their success so whoever wants to download their music because they want to listen to it, should just do it. More or less that was the comment
“Hahaha Fratboy....I just gave you GonaherpesyphilAIDS!!!” - Lars
Black dudes like metallica 0_o?
Yes I do
Paid to like*
Ya, I know a lot of black dudes liking Metallica!
Not after they denounced sharing.
Jason Brown hit the lights*
Marlon wayans?????
+Cadence Maxwell yep
...... I literally rip their songs from youtube now, even tho i own rtl and mop on lp, justice and the black album on cd. I'm walking on thin ice
Because napster release metallica unreleased song called i disappear..
Metallica was so ahead of the industry on Napster. Now musicians cant make money off of music making concert tickets and merch super expensive.
What is the bad show metallica hosted that fratboy was talking about?
I have a bad feeling, that Napster money wasn't used for drumming lessons...
"You're freaking Lars Ulrich ! , I love everything you do ! Well,... except for that bad show you hosted..."
What show was this?
@@MetalPersonJ same question

Never forget...
Lars: I'm starting to like this whole sharing thing
Dave Mustaine: Say no more 😒
Holy shit, that newgrounds animation was 110% accurate, lmao.
Wow. It's honestly amazing anyone thought they where cool
Another scenario, Imagine a new band, just starting out not very big with the money, suing napster, how would you guys react?..
you'd think because they're a musician they wouldn't be tone deaf
