Do you need waterproof grease on the o ring on the cartridge?

The spring is usually not a problem but can be replaced.
Yes, you need to put grease on the cartridge.

The spring and the gasket underneath flew out and I don’t know which way to put them back in. A little more explanation would be helpful.

The spring goes first , then the seat (small black rubber thing” with the smaller opening on the top
