So I had a no crank no start problem. I replaced my starter still nothing. Old man did the wire from engine to frame and turned right on. Would this fix the issue? Would it turn on every time?
is this a sure fix for the original location? I'm not sure if it's the ground or the starter but I've done the jumper cable test to no avail. it worked when I first had the issue a couple weeks ago but won't now. knowing it's not the battery I'm stuck between ground and starter.
So is there one or 2 ground straps ? I got a 06 325i out of no where it stopped turning on all lights go on but no crank starter was replaced bout 8+ months ago, I replaced the ignition fuse, a few 5 amp fues and a big black relay and it tuned on, I parked it at night morning came and it didn’t turn on again break paddle is hard again and only light come on no nth else, I can see a similar ground wire on top on the engine and it looks pretty new but is there one on the bottom as where ? I’m thinking it’s my key or a battery sensor or fuel pump relay, maybe start could’ve gone bad although fairly new ?
Appreciate the video but the title is a little misleading - it's a ground strap addition. Not a replacement as you don't remove the original. I've got no doubts at all this works, though so thank you. How long was the cable you used?
Thank you! This is a genius workaround. Tested with some 14-2 household wire, X5 started up and now have a proper 4 gauge shielded starter cable ($8 CAD @ Canadian Tire) making the grounding connection!
Hi there came back home all is well in the car park in the drive way when i start the car nothing no crank but battery strong i just replace the motor starter last year the ground strap in the engine looks new the only bad ground strap i see is in the tale pipe exhaust its all gone you think that will enough to contribute not to start the car?
I doubt it. If you think a ground is your issue, use a jumper cable from the engine to the frame and see if that works. Otherwise you have something else going on. I'd scan for fault codes, it should point you in some direction. If you have a gas bmw, there is a relay box that is basically in charge of powering on the ECU. They are common to go bad. If you don't have power to that, it won't start.
@@bradtourt i did the cable trick it works car start my question is the main big ground strap is looks new any other ground strap ? The only ground strap damage is by the tail pipe i eill by a ground strap for that bt i doubt that us the culprit or i can add a ground strap 4g cable from autozone will work?

GENIUS!
Should we disconnect the battery first or no problem....thnx boss
No need to
Thank you , great video. I will give it serious thought. Go check my ground cable - to see if it rusted or cMy x5 2011 has no crank. No start.
Is the ground wire hooked to the positive on the starter?
No.
HEY BRAD...THANX FOR A GOOD VIDEO.
SHOULD THE BATTERY BE DISCONNECTED OR JUST DO IT STRAIGHT UP LIKE YOU DID.
