Double Trouble was such a tight band. The drummer Chris Layton, keyboardist Reese Wynans, and bassist Tommy Shannon followed SRV's every move because they knew he never played a song the same way twice. Great support. And Stevie Ray so respected the musicianship of each of the fellows. They were all close friends. It definitely was mutual respect. SRV was as humble as he was talented. Even though he was the featured draw, he always insisted the band name be included on the billing whatever venue they played, no matter what. He also always introduced each member to the audience during a gig, and always insisted on each one of the band members drawing an equal share with him of the money earned.

FYI Stevie played with 13 guage strings and still was able to stretch them to break. He and his brother play a song together that is greatness. its name is pipeline. Please for your oun sake check it out.

The guy next to Stevie is playing the bass (a differnt instrument than a lead guitar) his name is Tommy Shannon.
    The keyboardist is Reese Wynans.
The drummer is Chris Layton. They were all "brothers" with SRV, and were devastated when he died, as we all were.

Stevie split performance fees equally cuz he was cool like that. Tommy Shannon, the bassist, is a top tier veteran. He played at Woodstock and with Johnny Winter. He and the drummer are a first class rythm section good enough to play behind anyone or with any band. Same goes for the keyboardist.
As for swag, those were Stevies street clothes too. He always dressed like that. Tommy, the bassist, told the story of a big laugh he got at the mall one morning when Stevie couldn't figure out why people kept staring at him.
And that sound you asked about was the guitar.
I recommend any of the performances he did at the El Macambo for future reacts. That was among the top 5 full rock or blues concerts ever recorded. Stevie was absolutely on fire that night.

Stevie said his mother had dominoes games at their house when he was young, that the Texas Playboys were regulars at the games, and that his first public performance was with his brother Jimmie for the Texas Playboys at their house, and a photo of it is on the back of the ‘Family Style’ album. He was 7 or thereabouts.

The sound you hear is the guitar. Stevie muted most of the strings and just allowed the ones playing the tune to play, with his fingers over the others, to keep them from vibrating and giving that sound you hear. That’s how he does both sounds at once. To me it’s almost as amazing what a master he was at muting as he was at playing. How could he do both at once?

Hey✌️great reaction👏. This is one of my favorites as well. Yes the man had swagger to spare for sure. Just his stage presence and charisma captures your attention before you ever hear him play. You mentioned Tommy Shannan, the bass player. He is part of the rhythm section and not a lead guitarist so there is no competition between them. Their instruments play different roles. You should know they were a very close Band of Brothers. They were great friends that loved each other. Stevie was the main draw and the rest were there in support of him. But they were all excellent musicians. They kept Stevie in the pocket and watched him like a hawk to see where he was going at any given time. He always played in the moment and never played the same song the same way. Even though it was generally not done Stevie had insisted that all performances fees were spilt evenly between them as a testament to how important they were to him. Reese Wynans, the pianist, was the last one to join in 1985. He is still playing with Joe Bonamasso on the circuit today. Chris Layton on drums. Can't wait for you to discover more of him. Thanks for doing this today✌️💙

@Tonyyoo's Reactions I decided to subscribe (despite your lapse into some unnecessary cussing here and there). I liked your questions and observations and the enthusiasm you showed for SRV. Yes, Stevie Ray is swagger and absolutely stellar talent... all without boorish ego. So compelling. There's a lot more of him and Double Trouble for you to learn about and enjoy. Don't stop at reacting to just two performances.

Nothing Stevie played is easy by any means, however this song in particular is TOUGH. The strumming ability and control you must have. Not to mention the tough chord shapes and all the muting you gotta do to get only certain strings ring out. Stevie was and is a master of his craft by todays standards too.
