The albums Newsted made are incredible!!
I can’t imagine him having a hit band like that and then papa The Cowardly Lion said “no , kid. That would hurt our profit”
Like he put it in his tell all interview “I was disrespected the most, by the person I admired the most”
I think it was a “screw this, I’m done with all of it!” Moment.
Realizing he couldn’t keep begging these 2 narcissists ( Lars and Het) for some creative input. It was easier just to create your own band and he did it amazingly. However you don’t know much about it cause Metallica didn’t want you listening to Newsted instead of Metallica in Spotify $$$ it hurts their bottom line 😂😂
He literally shut Newsted down by threatening the label He wouldn’t work with the label anymore if they promoted Newsted!!
What an a hole!!! What a baby to throw a temper tantrum like that.

I think him and Jason grew close during Jason's time in the band. I always got the impression that, like with Cliff, Kirk remembered what it was like to be the new guy(Cliff replaced Ron, Kirk replaced Mustaine, Jason replaced Cliff) in the James/Lars show, and knew what it was like to micromanaged by the 2 of them.

Hard to deal for them with this situation and given to their young age, however, they somehow managed to carry on!

Be true to yourself, be a good person, fight for positivity, but that doesn't at all mean you have to be a doormat. And when the fight is too much, when negativity is too extreme i come to find that its best to let it be what it is. If it angers you, let it. If you are going to curse up storm.. do it. Process it and let it pass. But this is only for extreme moments where the usual approach gets flipped. And i find that it works and im over it quickly. Jason helped drive Metallica where it was trying to go. Lars and James were obviously the initial creative force behind the music but Jason really pushed their idea with whatever control he was given. Sometimes you don't always get full control over bettering something so you gotta accept that your placed where you are with certain buttons and controls and Jason didn't let that slow him down, he went 100% with the buttons he was allowed to push in Metallica. He was pedal to the metal with what little control he had. Of course he tried to push further but never got to escape from that box they'd put him in. But in that box he still made all the noise he could with full energy and love.

They were so guarded, and closed off emotionally, and put up such thick walls between eachother that they inevitably disintegrated because they simply couldn't let anyone in on their turmoil. They covered it up TOO well in interviews and public appearances. It was all a show. The band was falling apart for years and no one knew. SKOM kind of broke those barriers down and showed people it's ok to have these necessary conversations.

I guess there’s something to say about his upbringing here … Jason had a very stable upbringing, with a tight family resolve and sense of loyalty. A good upbringing man … that goes miles into adulthood and maturity. I can’t recall the interview it was where he speaks about various shenanigans happening at Metallica shows/general metal shows, and how he had the sense to stay clear of all of it thanks to the values and grounding his family instilled in him.

And the only reason he has so little writing credits is because the majority of his stuff that he sent to them at that time was apparently like fast, Thrashy stuff like their earlier work, and Metallica weren’t looking for that at that time. But then you’ll have outliers like My Friend of Misery and Where the Wild Things Are that aren’t that and would be the kind of stuff that Lars and James would pick out from his material.
Lars and James are already great on their own at producing stuff, but if they like it enough, they’ll draw in ones from the other band members, though not to simply appease them as band members and take in whatever they got.

I think Cliff is a bit overrated and Jason slightly underrated. Cliff was one of the greatest bass players ever and all, but it's not like you can invent new things forever. I mean, KEA was just a thrash album, RTL was more powerful, because it was faster, MOP was stronger too, but because it was heavy, almost doom metal like. After 3 vastly different masterpieces you can only play the same thing heavier/faster or... Play slower, more mainstream-oriented. Cliff left the world as a legend, but Jason will always be the hero who saved the band, met expectations and lifted the band's legacy. Jason is world class on it's own.

It was in the heart of Jason Newstead‘s rein. Having gone through that and the some kind of monster years, it’s so refreshing to see these guys grow to the point where they can appreciate what they had and release the negativity that put them in those uncomfortable situations in which inevitably pushed Jason out of the band.

What sucks about the whole thing is that, even to this day, people are still convinced that they never learned their lesson, or truly appreciated Jason and what he meant to the band.
When this Interview came out, many news outlets were quick to jump on this and release it with the caption "Metallica FINALLY Admitted to Why Jason Left;" leading people to think that only now did they let the cat out of the box; and given their answers here, cause them to doubt the band on the topic while giving ammo for Jason Fanboys who would whine about the Band about his departure; That wasn't even the Fucking case. They've long admitted to what happened in Interviews and Docs. of the Band Since St. Anger; and The Question asked by Zane Lowe who did this interview wasn't even Why Jason Left, but how differently they thought about Band members leaving nowadays, and What Jason meant to the band.
Metallica have nothing but respect and appreciation for Jason, never once Avoided the subject of his resignation, and looked at the whole situation for what it was, not at all romanticizing their actions to him. And unfortunately, there will be people who will think or still believe otherwise in spite of that. A Darn Shame.
