@@beatmet2355 he was the soul and heart gtfoh with that. James and Lars were the corrupted brains and that’s about it. Jason is the prime example of “Hard work pays off”. That dude was ultimate die hard fan and praised Cliff to such a level when he initially tried out. He worked his ass off and earned his spot, regardless of what assholes the rest of Metallica were to him. He is true grit, heart AND soul.
@@barndencactus he did work his ass off, but so do people who get participation trophies. He deserved better treatment than he got in the band, but the praise he gets because of his role is not equal to what he actually did. He only contributed to 3 songs in over a decade in the band. You could say he wasn’t given enough opportunity, but look what he’s done with total control. Everything he has attempted has failed. I wish he had more success post Metallica, but it hasn’t happened yet. He had two different bands to express himself and they both came to nothing. I hope that he is successful one day, but Jason is just a really good bass player and that’s about it, as far as his musical ability goes. I hope one day he proves me wrong.
@@beatmet2355 only considering his writing credits is disingenuous, at best. His stage performance was undeniable. After seeing Metallica 7 times in 3 different states (5 of which Jason was in, 2 with Robert), I would say he's earned every bit the credit fans give him, and then some.
Jason was THE guy to take Cliffs place after his tragic passing. From the studio albums, to the live performances, he gave it his all and did a killer job. That’s no easy task, especially when taking a spot in a band for someone that was as talented as Cliff was.
Jason charged them to their peak performances of the late 80"S early 90"s. Moscow performance and Seattle and also was part of the creation of justice, Black album, and load and reload. He defiantly made his mark and part of their history. If cliff never died, I don't think they would of created them albums and be as big as they are ,as all the choices are made because of the people at the time. that is why they became so big.
You know that he absolutely loves playing bass. Just watch his face and the emotion that takes him over. Jason New is a fucking treasure that is unbelievably underrated. 💯
A few years ago in a bar at the Atlanta airport my wife and I were having a smoke during a layover. I looked up, and on the other side of the little table was Jason by himself having a smoke. I wanted to talk to him so bad, but I didn't want to interrupt his quiet time and draw attention to him
Jason was always my favorite member of Metallica, and bassist ever. He just has this skill and energy, not to mention he looks almost the exact same and personality as my bass mentor. Also he’s my definite celebrity crush.
I love Jason...I'm like him in a way, whenever I was a musician even supporting as a sideman, I looked out into the crowd and saw all this energy out there for the taking. I never thought that that energy was only reserved for the frontman or the 'star' of the show and I grabbed every ounce of it that I could and tried to give it back. Man, Jason gave back so much energy and while I think Rob is (arguably) the most talented musician who's ever played bass for Metallica (don't wind up: Cliff's full potential was sadly never realized) Jason brought something else entirely to the live experience. They were fools for not appreciating his input because obviously then it wouldn't have been the James & Lars show, but it would have been magnificent if more of Jason's creativity had been allowed to express itself within the band.
It is great what level of appreciation Jason receives here, although being the successor of a total icon. That is because he always stayed humble and was "touchable". And the fact again that this is what earned him appreciation speaks for us metalheads because being humble and "touchable" may not be the only way but the most predictable way to earn our appreciation.
I saw them on the load tour and while I was initially worried it ended up being an amazing show. But Jason killed it, he did that 10 minute solo work by himself sitting on the stage with the rest of the band backstage and kept 50000 screaming metal fans enamored until the rest of the band came in to back him up on Anesthesia.
Growing up my first memories of Metallica were James' snearing face from Enter Sandman and Jason's whirlwinding hair at live performances. Then hearing "DIE!" from Creeping Death solidified Jason in my mind as the definition of 'Metal'. James has an imposing presence but he always came across as a little Loki-like. Jason always seemed hardcore IMO
I've seen Metallica three times. I saw them in 1994 when I was 11, in 2000 when I was 17 and in 2004 when I was 21. The first time was special because my older brother had just come home for furlough after finishing boot camp for the Navy and he had bought the tickets even before he left for training so it was something that we were both looking really forward to. Also it was my first heavy metal concert. So what a way to start. In 2000 when I was 17 I saw them in Dallas and I took my girlfriend who is now my wife. I was older and had a much better knowledge and appreciation of the music then and naturally loved it because Jason was there singing his balls off on every freaking song it seemed like on the summer sanitarium tour with Kid Rock and corn opening I believe. In 2004 my wife and I saw them in Oklahoma City and I mean no disrespect to Rob as he is a fantastic bass player. It feels like they just didn't have the same punch live without Jason. I did not think I would notice Jason's absence as much as I did until I was there and I was like wow the band is really just kind of going through the motions. Metallica this day is my favorite band but I have not seen them in concert in 18 years and I don't expect I ever will again unless it's some sort of a special show where Jason Plays with them as a five-piece.
The glue that held the soul together. He was the link between band and fans that kept them on the ground level. Now the link is a VIP Package. Gave everything of himself with a style and force that cannot be duplicated. Mr. Spider-walker is a fine bass player, but not for this style and he certainly doesn’t encapsulate the spirit of the group nor is he looked at as a force to reckon with. This band never recovered after Jason left, they’re just the remnants now of what once was. A band now in the downswing of their career with no fire or ideas left, simply running on legacy autopilot fumes - directionless, soulless, without passion or drive. Jason deserves every thanks on earth for keeping this band alive in their heyday
Robert is now the longest lasting bassist Metallica has ever had and I still feel he's just the replacement for Jason, just a hired bass and not an actual member. No disrespect for Rob, he's a beast, but I just can't see Metallica in him. Maybe that's what James and Lars must've felt when they included Jason to fill in the shoes for Cliff.
Rob and cliff were amazing bass guitarists for Metallica (R.I.P cliff🤘🖤) but Jason will always own my heart. He’s so talented and deserved so much better when he was in Metallica. I hope the best for him!!🖤🖤
No argument there, Jason will always be my fave MetallicA member. He was ALWAYS there for fans at Meet & Greets when James, Kirk, & Lars stopped doing it in late 90's and early 2000's. Only Jason did the Meet & Greets. When Jason left, then whole band started doing Meet & Greets again. Just facts. Love 'Em All still!
I miss the live shows with Jason. It was like having another fan up onstage. He was so good with the crowd and brought such a fun and electric feeling to the shows.
Same here. I got into this between Black Album and Load then worked backwards. Had the fortune to see Metallica headline a big show after Reload and they were astounding despite not being my favourite band there that day, but Jason was the driving force for sure that hot summers eve. The crowd had been into this for 12 hours by the time all was done but Jason had us ready to give more as long as he would.
This is a clear example of why the other band members hated him, because he was the only one that didn’t give off a sense of fakeness!! Everything he did was genuine and from the soul!!
Man .. I'm a big Metallica Fan ever since I was just a 9 yr old boy. When Jason left the band I felt like Metallica was never the same. My Friend of Misery is such an underrated song. This one is at the top of my list for all time favorite Metallica jams!
Jason always gave 200 percent to EVERY SINGLE SHOW he ever played with Metallica. Whether it was the first tour , the middle of the black album tour or his last with them.
For me jason the hyper demon is the energizer of metallica, he gave it all, night in night out. To bad they abuse him.
Damage Inc.
Newsted is a perfect example of how a replacement bass player outshone the rest of the band. What a beast he is.
the myth, the legend, the god, Jason fucking Newsted. Hope one day people realize how underrated this guy was.
Jason was a total bad ass on the stage. His every metallica performance was undeniably the BEST!
Amazing vid. He kick ass. He was the soul of Metallica
The soul, maybe, but not the brains or the heart.
@@jasonflinders-1984 that’s what put Metallica on the map, the songs. No one is going to enjoy a show with mediocre songs.
One of the most underated musical talents of the century. And a nice guy, too! He can teach us a lot about confidence, resiliency and dignity. 🖤
him wearing the megadeth shirt is simply iconic
Jason, the most Metallica man to ever walk on the planet.
Newsted will forever be a legend. Definitely my favorite bass player for Metallica.
You know that he absolutely loves playing bass. Just watch his face and the emotion that takes him over. Jason New is a fucking treasure that is unbelievably underrated. 💯
Thank you for putting this together! I really enjoyed the whole damn thing!
A few years ago in a bar at the Atlanta airport my wife and I were having a smoke during a layover. I looked up, and on the other side of the little table was Jason by himself having a smoke. I wanted to talk to him so bad, but I didn't want to interrupt his quiet time and draw attention to him
I've seen 3 out of Metallica's 4 bass players live and Jason will always be my favorite. He was a badass!!
Jason is a bloody legend. I love hearing him sing Seek and Destroy.
I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times. Great guy off stage. Very humble and gracious.
That random James Hetfield voice crack at the end killed me.
The passion this guy has for metal is honestly inspiring 🤘
His creeping death vocals are the best! Gives me chills everytime
"My friend of misery" has a badass and underrated bass riff. It's good to see Jason has the respect of the fans, he deserves it.
Thank you!!! I never really noticed. Robert Trujillo is great but never realized how awesome he is.
I knew Jason when he was in Flotsam n Jetsom in Phoenix our bands practiced in the same rehersal studios he's a very nice dude, class act 100%!!!!
Gracias, me encantó este video... Y seguramente faltó mucho por poner... Arriba Jason!!!!!
I have exactly the same feeling! You're very right.
Exactly. Dude is good but just don’t see him as part of the band. Jason was just naturally perfect for Metallica.
Yep. It's like Daryl Jones working for the Roling Stones. Fantastic musician, all kudos to him, but always kinda hired gun.
1000/100 agree. You said everything. Sad but true. After Jason something epic has been lost without replacement...
my biggest issue with Trujillo in Metallica is that he's not doing Infectious Grooves anymore.
Rob and cliff were amazing bass guitarists for Metallica (R.I.P cliff🤘🖤) but Jason will always own my heart. He’s so talented and deserved so much better when he was in Metallica. I hope the best for him!!🖤🖤
I know I'm late but Jasons backing vocals on creeping death are just amazing
shit man , caught me off guard on that last second James voice crack...
It's a shame he had to leave Metallica, I love Rob and Cliff, but Jason had the best showmanship, he knew how to be on stage.
Jason's energy in Metallica's live performance was infectious. I'm not a bassist but he's my personal favorite among the 4.
Jason newsted is the reason why Metallica was so popular and so successful in the 90's
Listen, we all loved Cliff and Rob. But Jason was Metallica’s golden child bassist. Incredibly underrated and massively loved by us fans.
No, not all.
I don't like the skateboarder.
He'd better go back to Infectious Grooves/suicidal tendencies!
I associate Metallica with Jason. I started listening Metallica when Jason was in the band. And I also think that Metallica could include him in S&M2
Same.
Jason was in the Metallica I grew up with, he’s such an incredible musician! Miss having him in the group
I can’t stress enough what an awesome human being he is.
I grew up with Rob but dude I wish I could’ve seen Jason live with Metallica he’s got so much spirit
This is a clear example of why the other band members hated him, because he was the only one that didn’t give off a sense of fakeness!! Everything he did was genuine and from the soul!!
Makes me like Jason even more...wow, these are some great clips...wow.
Newsted was 100% spot on in Metallica
Man .. I'm a big Metallica Fan ever since I was just a 9 yr old boy. When Jason left the band I felt like Metallica was never the same. I know Cliff was great and all, but Jason was like the best fit for Metallica for me. He was both a fan and a member of the band at the same time, always gave it all.
Really do miss him and wish I could’ve seen him live, his vocals and energy are unmatched
Incredible bass guitarist. He didn't deserve the way he was treated by the other band members.
That creeping death segment is the perfect encapsulation of his personality on stage. Nothing fancy or extra. Just pure, hard, heavy metal
He focking left the band
After being ridiculed.
Can you understand? HE FOUKIN LEYFT THE BAIND!
I feel a flame so strong in his spirit that it brings soul wherever he treads.
People never respect someone's talent until they're somehow gone
The fact that even after he left the band he was still a driving force of change in the band speaks volumes
The most metal bassist the band has ever had, imo.
The split second of James voice crack 😂
I grew up listening to all three bass players and Jason is easily still my favorite
My dad did work at his house in upstate New York and he and his wife are so down to earth and nice people, love him and Metallica🤘
Jason was and still is a badass.. I feel like his time in the band is underrated. Dude loves to rock
His “Master Master” scream in Master Of Puppets live in Seattle 1989 before the solo, that’s the moment that told me “This kid doesn’t fck around”
He was the fan that all of us are, inside the band.
Jason u killed my depression! Ty and Cliff is smiling from above he d be proud
