once you play any Soul Series and even BloodBourn it ruins all other games period. And between all souls games (Demon,Ds1,ds2, and now ds3) have over 1000 hrs. game that pvp pissed you off but its so addicting thankyou Fromsoft
+ralfman5 It's so very true, I just recently got into Dark Souls (Because it's now backwards compatible on X1), and I can say that I haven't really been able to play any other games since. Nothing really compares to the challenge, exploration, or just sheer awesome.
I say: demons souls OP weapons, Dark souls story and setting. And of course fix the back stabs. That's all I wanted. I never asked to use a gun in BB or to punch someone's back in DS2. I just wanted DS1 with less back stabs!!!! Is that too hard to ask!!??!?!?
He was just saying it may be a turn off for newcomers to the series, which is true. Souls games are very difficult to break casual gamers into. He never said "this game is hard, it's bad." Look at the context and the position of a game reviewer/journalist. They're reporting for the people wondering about buying the game.
It's funny... I'm playing this game for the first time after already beating Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3. I don't think it's a terrible game but the newer games blow it away. I think everything about 3 is better than 2. Combat and Controls feel much tighter, the enemy layouts are better, the environments are better, the music is better, and I also think 3 has much cooler bosses.
Super S - You clearly never tried rolling in Dark Souls 2. I don't know how you can say the combat in 2 is better than 3 when it's objectively worse considering there's no omni directional rolling and extremely small hit boxes.
Looking through these comments I get the feeling that a lot of people just love jumping on bandwagons. It also looks like a lot of people haven't even played this game and just like to criticise it because they're now part of the cool new gang who're into the latest game, Bloodborne. Firstly, I've not played Bloodborne yet and I'm waiting till I've fully completed DS2 before picking it up but I'm sure I will love it. So far I'm about 60 hours into this game and I'm loving it. The gameplay mechanics and levelling system to just the general environment and all the hidden secrets to find and unlock. The voice acting is also second to none. Overall DS2 is an awesome game and very fun to play. Isn't that why we play games, to have fun? What I'm getting at is why should this game get so much criticism, just because it's not as good as it's predecessor? It's still an excellent game. Just because it might not be as good as Bloodborne, does that mean it shouldn't be played? By that token, if I'd never played Final Fantasy IX because of how many people would have said how much better VII was, I wouldn't have experienced one of my favourite all time games. Comparison is the thief of joy.
I'm actually a new comer to the Souls series and so far the game has been way more fun than frustrating. Its refreshing to have a game that doesn't hold your hand. I'm playing a knight right now and I just finished the Undead Crypt. I killed Velstadt in 2 trys solo. Also I haven't used a shield once yet so I guess I most be doing something right.
Eggg Sandwich Yeah - it's other people who claim "hardest game evarr" I think FROM just wants to make a game that puts the player through an emotional roller coaster.
+ConsoleRebels I don't think you understand lol. Them saying there game is hard(which it is when you first start) and someone saying that they said they have made the hardest game ever are too completely different things. They never said they had made the hardest game ever. Like Eggg said that is pure ignorance, but i'd go farther and say stupidity. Eggg had it right in his first comment, then you try to counter comment him by bringing up it's a marketing point for them? I mean wtf are you stupid? I'm not sure if you understand that your first comment completely points out that you were trying to say to Eggg that they said they made the hardest game ever. Which was never true lol. They have a hard game which they market for being hard, why you keep posting that over and over again like you are proving a point is beyond me.
No, it isn't. Anyone who thinks Dark Souls and in fact any of the souls games from Fromsoft are supposed to be difficult by nature needs to be fucking euthanize'd.
MARTIANxMADNESS Would you clarify what you meant. I see your meaning as either the Souls games are not supposed to be difficult, and they are, or that they are not supposed to be difficult and they aren't. Or maybe you mean that the Souls games are not difficult by nature, but the player base makes them difficult as they are not a feature that is "by nature" in the game. Regardless, your comment is not very clear.
nocturnal240 Miyazaki has said on many occasion that the point of the Souls games isn't about being tough, it's about giving the player interesting situations where in they receive a sense of accomplishment. A scenario being difficult is only a small portion of this equation. An excerpt from tinyurl.com/qf2uocy: "Having the game be "difficult" was never the goal. What we set out to do was strictly to provide a sense of accomplishment. We understood that “difficulty” is just one way to offer an intense sense of accomplishment through forming strategies, overcoming obstacles, and discovering new things. Our goal of a sense of accomplishment was the basis of the game since the early stages of development, and we never strayed from that." Being thrown into a situation where you have to fight giant armored knights while fighting smaller knights and a fire breathing dragon is certainly a difficult scenario, but it isn't an accomplishing or rewarding one. It's tedious and it's difficulty for the sake of difficulty. And that is no way to design your games.
Dark Souls 2 has some of the worst areas and bosses in the whole series, but it also has many of the best, which is why it’s my favourite in the series. Combat is the best too.
Recommended! Dark Souls 2 is very fun even if you have already played Dark Souls 1. Dark Souls 1 had many glitches that could be exploited to take advantage of the tough game play...Such as killing the Blacksmith for his thunder hammer, then transferring to a new character and upgrading that same hammer using the blacksmith you killed. I had done this and the hammer basically made me a god. Dark Souls 2 may not have as good of a map layout (hidden areas, connecting shortcuts from one place to another) but was a masterpiece. I have not found any exploits tempting me to taste the forbidden fruits so in my experience Dark Souls 2 is more challenging. Both are equally awesome! :)
I loved the first Dark Souls. it's crazy how much time passed, after I rerolled the game like 6 times in a row, and I still wanted more. After I heard that DS2 will have a better deal without paying for the DLC pack separately I was on edge waiting for Scholar of the First Sin to come out. Bought it as soon as it appeared on Steam. And... the hell if i know what to think of it after 20 hours yet :D it was the same with the first Dark Souls. I was not sure what I'm playing but, there were those epic moments, incredible lore to be discovered in time, and sometimes I was so impressed that I just held my breath and I was staring at the screen and wondering if I really see what I see. I have no idea if this can possibly be better than DS1 was, but I'm sure it has still many surprises.
Exactly! i taught it was just me, and ya Bloodborne kinda ruined the soul series for me, don't get me wrong i love the soul series's punishing difficulty and strategic approach to game play making every encounter a boss fight. But the combat is just much more active in Bloodborne making it much more aggressive as far as game play is concerned. in the end the game is amazing but as far as satisfying game play goes, i think i prefer mowing down hoards of enemies and feeling like a general BAMF than a slow lumbering tank who hides behind a shield until you can get one good hit on someone
White Antelope with clunky i mean the movements feels like the characters are floating when they roll and swing some weapons. I don't know it might be just me, don't get me wrong, I never said the game was bad, I love the game but that doesn't mean I won't criticize it. Hell i criticize bloodborne for some bad game design in some bosses and loading time plus the servers are shit right now and would like more weapons but I love the game, got the platinum for it a few days back.
Dark souls 2 has actually really grown on me in the last few months. Not only is it the only one I can get a consistent 60fps on, but I really enjoyed trying to play without a shield. It makes the game so much more exciting.
I honestly think Dark Souls 2 gets much more hate than it deserves. Sure there is some garbage bosses. (Twin Dragonriders, Grave Robbers, Royal Rat Vanguard/Authority, Covetous Demon, Demon of Song, Skeleton Lords) But there was still some great and very memorable bosses. (Looking Glass Knight, Sir Alonne, Fume Knight, Velstadt, Burnt Ivory King, Smelter Demons, Sinh, Pursuer, Executioner's Chariot)
This is my first darksouls game, i started about a week ago, i admit that boss fight isn't that hard, but the mobs are the actual thing that making this game frustrating, but really enjoyable tho
Last week I picked up dark souls prepare to die edition and am playing it on the Xbox one. I had been wanting to get it for a very long time now but was just so hesitant because I really thought I would just go crazy with the deaths the truth is its the complete opposite. The deaths help you to get better and I am very careful and plan strategies. Honestly it is one of the best and challenging games I have ever played if your thinking of getting it do do not worry about deaths it only helps you to strategise each location and helps you get better. I have not even finished my first play through and can't wait to start a new game plus
(This is my personal opinion) I don't think that difficulty should be a con. I understand why it wouldn't necessarily be on the pros side of things, but difficulty doesn't make a game worse unless it is in an unfair or broken way.
Good point but Dark Souls 2 had too many frustrating encounters that required "arrows/mage, retreat". And tell me how the lead up to fight velstadt is in any way fair? it's not even hard. It's fustrating and tedious because you have several enemies, and the games mechanics only allow one on one encounters. So by default the game's against you because dark souls 2 like to throw groups of spongey enemies at you all the time. This frustration is multiplied when it's heide knights, syan knights, those fat dudes who can't be stunned at all with the moon sickles, those mammoths, and my personal favorite, the drake keeper knights in dragon shrine. The whole time I'm playing any of these sections, I'm wondering how the people that designed those sections, thought at the time, that said sections were in any way, fair and not frustrating and tedious. And the enemy placement doesn't make sense in this game either other than to make the player die a cheap death, or destroy their items because they didn't expect exploding mummies that dmg your equipment in DRAGON AERIE. Why are exploding mummies in dragon aerie anyway, and why is there one next to a ledge? because if he gets ya, you're gone off the ledge. Demon's souls and dark soul's aren't perfect, but when they threw groups of enemies at you, they weren't that powerful, it was balanced, it was FAIR. Dark Souls 2 is not for the reasons I've just stated. Lazy design. If you can't make a section good, make it "hard". That was the mindset of the b team that worked on dark souls. They completely misinterpreted the point of "difficult, but fair".
Dark Souls II is a mess. It's a beautifully designed game graphically, but the worlds and the enemy placements are just not balanced properly for a tough but fair experience. Too many ambushes.
Dark Souls II's enemy placements are predictably stupid: Here's a giant guy, so there's two to five of them in small proximity so you end up fighting all 5 unless you kite them very carefully out of the room to exploit their aggro ranges. Rinse and repeat. Either that, or there's a room filed with lesser monsters or soldiers and they all attack you swiftly and simultaneously. Making the game almost mechanically impossible in certain situations. This all is so frequent in DS2 that it's almost comical.
At first I was scared from playing dark souls 2 because of its negative criticism. I have finished DS1 Blood borne and DS3 will all the DLC. So it made sense to buy this game, the game surprised me it was hard and really fun. I don't understand the heavy criticisms it got ! Yes I understand they have few bad mechanics but it's a still great Souls game and deserves 9 rating. I would personally recommend it to any souls lover
Wish I could get used to the fighting style in this one. DS1 was perfect for me. However I cannot step away from the second bonfire in Forest of the Fallen Giants without severe frustration with how the game plays.
Started this a little while and really got into it. First Dark Souls game, spent a good 54 hours on my first play through. Fantastic game, although I do see what people mean about the bosses. You can use one strategy for pretty much all of them. The final boss was rather disappointing as well...but still, wonderful game and I look forward to starting up Dark Souls 3 next payday.
So you haven't played DS1? The best of them all? DS2 was a hot mess, I can understand your point though, its like having a girlfriend for the first time, but shes not too good looking, but shes your first so it seems wonderful and you can get your end wet, but that's only because you don't know any better.
***** I did try to play it but the PC port is horrible and the locked frame rate put me off. Finished Dark Souls 3 the other day and I enjoyed it so much that I'm going to give the first another try.
This is so many years late with bloodborne and darksouls 3 out and all that but I still play this game to this day. it's a great game and deserved more praise. I enjoyed pvp in ds2 more than any other of the games. Even though the final boss was kinda weak in terms of enjoyment, the bosses in the dlcs will makes up for it. In conclusion this is a great game and as the second installment to the dark soul series, it did have somethings that did better than the first darksouls and demon souls. (Demon souls will always be my favorite though)
I agree with the tougher entry point, I am a veteran of the series, and I had a little bit of trouble with the beginning of the game. It is MUCH harder, I started as a warrior so my damage wasn't too great. Honestly, I think if you don't count the boss battles, this game is as intense as the first game.
as a souls fan, after spending more than 100 hour into bloodborne....i cant go back playing dark soul 2 slow combat eventhough i spent more then 100 hour playing it last gen. and bloodborne PVP is sooo much fun..
makubex nas bloodborne lacks on pvp content, weapon/armor variety, matchmaking system, deeper combat mechanics. 10-20 minutes waiting time for invasions is way to long. this game needs summon signs or atleast some pvp arenas. As invader you lose 30%health for no reason witch makes competitive pvp garbage My lvl 80 bloodtinge pvp twink oneshots most invaders.. it doesnt even feel rewarding to parry someone with a gun because there is no punish..if i miss the parrytiming on my enemy he get staggered and get loads of damage from my evelyn with rank5 bloodgem and 40+ bloodtinge. i also miss 2 handing or 1 handing every weapon, powerstance movesets, shield parry/weapon parry, poisesystem, unparryable (jumping) attacks and organized pvp fightclubs on twitch thats why darksouls 2 is far superior in my opinion
This game is perfect like Dark Souls 1. Anyone who complains it's easy - which it is to many, myself included - is probably a master of Dark Souls 1. Trust me I played DS1 recently and the only time I died was against Bed of Chaos.
+Chuck Finley And made enemy placement better. and didn't use artificial difficulty, and head a cohesive world with better levels. and a story that didnt read like DS1 fanfiction. Still a good game though. Unfortunatley though, as a sequel it was less of an ESB, and more of a RotJ
@@GildedVoice ds1 fanfiction ? I think you're talking about DS3 .. ds2 went it's own path lore wise which made stand out from the original unlike ds3's fanfiction/fanservice
@@iRandom_Thoughts Yeah, don't listen to people like him. He probably doesn't even know DS2's lore and just hates the game for dumb reasons like everyone else even though it's actually better than the rest souls games (Not counting Bloodborne). DS2 has by far the best combat, best areas and best fashion souls of all. The only thing that this game is lacking is the big amount of amazing bossfights. Other than that DS2 is a masterpiece and DS1 as well as DS3 are overrated games. And I say this after playing DS3 for at least 400 hours and DS1 150.
I love Dark Souls but Bloodborne will always have my heart. It's so different. It's so much more fast paced, and I feel like the world is more atmospheric and mysterious. Also, I think the boss fights are significantly better. Dark Souls has some straight up obnoxious bosses. BB does too, but the fun outnumber the not so fun.
Recently beat DS1 and loved it. Now I'm on to SotFS and I can't really say the same about it so far. A lot of the changes to the mechanics make 0 sense to me besides giving the false impression of difficulty by handicapping previous abilities and qualities you were used to from DS1. Idk maybe it's because I'm just starting out
In exactly the same boat as you and agree with everything you've said here :/ It just feels very clunky and unrefined, as if it's an unfair level of difficulty that matters and not the actual game world..
It's made by a different team at From Soft, so it would be in your best interest to think of it as it's own thing as opposed to a sequel. You might enjoy it a bit more like that.
I played Demon's Souls and Dark Souls in 2012, so when DS2 came out in 2014 I was excited. Doubly so to see they brought some things back from the Demon's Souls mechanics. That...didn't last long. I had only played up to Drangleic Castle and hadn't come back to it. None of the areas seemed interesting or compelling...I hated being there and loathed having to run through them yet again, etc. Worst part for me was the gauntlet between bonfires and bosses seemed ridiculous. Admittedly, after 2 years, I was rusty...and the controls of DS2 never felt right, but I never felt like I had a chance. Grinding a couple levels just made me dislike things even more, so I stopped. I played some Bloodborne when it came out (first boss) but never had the time to go back. Then DS3 came out this year and I loved it...spent most of my free time for a month playing it, and finally decided to go back and take a stab at DS2 while I wasn't rusty. I decided to play Scholar since I was used to PS4 and didn't remember anything about the game...but, wow. They made the bosses a little easier, but the areas between bonfires and bosses a lot more difficult. They added way more petrified NPCs and enemies and went overboard with the NPC invasions. Basically, they took a game I didn't like and made it worse...nevermind the DLC areas which take what you learn from combat and punish you for doing it.
***** I've been playing through SotFS for the first time this week and I will say the trek to the boss is pretty ridiculous, especially the stupid executioner's chariot. But I do like how life gems, at least when you're safe, can really help stave off that annoying damage you gather along the way instead of wasting estus.
This game feels easier to me than the original DS2 because of the changes in how many people you can summon at once as well as the availability of certain weapons like the Great Lance. The new enemy placement also feels like it gives me a lot more leeway than the DS2 Original too. I just wish they made the Royal Rat Authority better because right now it's a poorly designed mess.
As much as I really do enjoy Dark Souls 2, it's a poor game when compared to its predecessor. And it's far easier than the first game too. What is perhaps most frustrating about this review is that it is obviously been done by someone who knows nothing about Soul's games. It's such a shame how places like IGN, Machinima, etc. have become one of the worst places to get a review for a game. Why? Because they have more to lose from giving a poor review, maybe they won't get the 'First 15 minutes of Call of Duty 37: Modern Warfare 29, exclusive to IGN'. This is just highlighted by the excellent reviews AW got despite being a horrendous game! It sucks how you can't trust a channel of this size to give you a truly honest and critical game review. And this review highlights it. Dark Souls 2 is a really fun game, but the level design is poor - especially when compared to the first one - most of it makes no geographical sense and just feels like it's been mashed together by a five year old. The enemies can be dull and repetitive, bosses lack imagination and innovation, the game suffers from artificial difficulty spikes by jus throwing more enemies at you instead of producing genuinely challenging ones, and the story/lore lacks substance, depth and emotional investment that the first one had in abundance. This wasn't meant to turn into a rant of this magnitude, but I'm sick of short, inaccurate and bias reviews from these 'big' UA-cam channels.
Sorry I forgot you're the final judge when it comes to people and their opinions, I forgot that you're not allowed to enjoy a CoD game. Get realam come on
Well your right about the AI tracking being shit and most of the enemies are basically same old same old but the lore man, just finding videos on it makes it feel so rich.
Let me get this straight, Dark souls 2 was what people call the worst in the series, and being a veteran souls player putting in thousands of hours in all combined, I agree, and I'm disappointed. The fan favorite is dark souls 1 , which clearly deserved more of a remaster because this games graphics were fine. Demon Souls, my personal favorite, should have also been re mastered. This game is literally better graphics , and the dlcs, for $50 or $60 , I dont even know, and nor do I care, about these reviews. The games that should have been re mastered should be dark souls 1 and demons souls. This game is literally a remaster, nothiv more. New weapons (wow that's deff worth $60!), and the same enemy's in further areas in the game placed in the earlier areas, for $60? What a joke.
I would love to see a remaster of the entire Souls series come to current gen consoles (I know this would be iffy because of Demon Souls exclusivity to PS but as an Xbox gamer I'd jump at the chance to play it!). But as poor as Dark Souls 2 was in comparison to Dark Souls 1, this re-release does improve a lot. They've introduced the lighting system that was shown pre-release that the stupidly bailed on, the new enemy placement is excellent, and some levels work slightly differently. They haven't really fixed the poor level design but it's slightly better and the story/npc's/bosses are not as good as the first, but it's a vastly improved experience I won't lie.
therainbowpigs I see. Makes sense once I think about it. And a bit too late is right :D and Rory Beynon-Gray that's actually great to hear. I thought nothing really changed to be honest. But I don't get it, why did it have to come out after BloodBorne ? :'( I can't get used to ds2 again after putting in 100 hours of BloodBorne, it sucks. The faster pasted combat is more amusing than slow in ds2, but I'm glad to hear they did improve :)
***** for newcomers this game is incredible. Veterans it's mixed. Highly suggest playing Dark Souls 1 after, and is you have a ps3, Demons Souls as well !
Yes, it's literally a remaster and nothing more. But it never claimed to be anything more than that. So I don't get the point you're trying to make there.
I am aged 65 loved my games since 1985 and best game I ever played is Dark Souls 2 and thought that PS4 Dark Souls II Scholar of the First Sin was the same but it is not, all they done is add more enemies that I could have done on PS3 Dark Souls 2.
I didn't think this version was much harder outside of Heide's Tower. In some ways this is easier than the original. To me it just felt more balanced for the most part, and just more interesting overall. Still far from perfect, but a better game than it was in 2014.
12$ on steam right now! i already beat the first one and ds3 but never played this one .... should i get it asap at this price or wait for a 80-90% discount? lol
+A True Gamer i thing that the first souls game you played is everyone's favorite mine's ds1, other people like ds2 more because they played it first and so on. it think it's because it's the first time you enter the world of a souls game and that experience is only gained one time, if you play a souls game after that it will feel familiar and won't have the same impact/effect on you(srry for bad english)
I played the previous version, and now I just got this one. I have to say, this is definitely already feeling like the previous game with all the tough enemies in places you wouldn't think. It also feels like the enemies now have 1% mercy again. This is how it was meant to be haha.
Legion Normandy If you like a challenge and excellent level design get bloodborne. If you enjoy a mildly challenging game and terrible level design get dark souls 2
Didn't play Dark Souls 2 and only played a little of the first one. Bought this today and am having a lot of fun with it. Can definitely tell that the graphics are sharper. And yes, I've died a shitload of times. What else is new?
not to nit pick, but if you didn't play DS2 how can you tell if the graphics are better? and if your comparing a sequel to a prequel on another platform... that's kinda like comparing metal gear solid to metal gear solid 2... still have FUN!! ITS A GOOD GAME!!
I love this game because it challenge you it's hard, now days games are to ease they help you a lot like call of duty campaign and a lot of others games they help you aim just press the aim button and kill to ease people complain about this game that is to hard in this game you have to survive the stamina finish it is a beautiful game that makes you show your skills this game is the best game
Many people say that DS2 is the worst of the series but they don't realize an important aspect of the human mind. Whenever you love something so much you will create great expectations for next iterations of the game and these expectations are usually hard to meet. For example, I played DS1, DS and DS2 in that order and I prefer DS1. But if people play them in other order they will probably like better the first one they played.
I personally liked Dark Souls 1's graphics far more than Dark Souls 2's. However, I feel as if Dark Souls 2 is mechanically superior. If DkS2 had been released with something closer to what the pre-release looked like, I'd definitely give the graphics trophy to DkS2. Luckily, Scholar of the First Sin brings us one step closer. Unfortunately, I think that that step is the farthest we're going with this game. Bloodborne, amazing looking as it is, is exclusive to PlayStation 4. I play PC, but thats irrelevant to this post. I actually recently finished DkS1 on the PC with my keyboard and mouse. I put 200 hours into that game just to beat it once, and plan to put many more in the future. But with Dark Souls 2, I feel as if I'm more than half way through the game without any clue of what's going on in the story (though, I didn't really know what was going on in Dark Souls 1 for quite a long time either) at around 10 hours... I guess what I'm trying to say is that I feel much more engaged and immersed in DkS1. But I guess there's plenty more to explore in DkS2. Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough. :) Tips to make DkS2 more challenging are welcome and appreciated, as I've noticed a humongous difference in difficulty gap. What used to be one huge enemy that had difficult move sets to learn is now a horde of smaller enemies with spears. Anyways, what are your guys' thoughts? What do you think of Dark Souls 2? What about Scholar of the First Sin?
Ok...I have a list of stuffs I need now... 1-Dragon Age: Inquisition 2-The Master Chief Collection 3-Destiny 4-Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin 5-Dying Light 6-Forza 5 7-Forza Horizon 2 8-Wolfenstein And when they come out: 9-Mad Max 10-Just Cause 3 11-Halo 5 Guardians 12-The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt 13-Mirror's Edge 14-Tom Clancy's The Division 15-Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor GOTY Edition
It was. Very short. Horrible pvp. Repetitive chalice dungeon and limited weapon choice. It has great pve but all other aspects lack. Not to mention lack of armor and magic/miracles
It was a mistake playing this after Bloodborne. It really doesn't even compare. BB is a far superior game in world setup, bosses, enemy variants, combat system, and weapons. I mean, DS2 was already at the bottom of the series for me. BB on the other hand stands side by side with DS1 as the best. I wish they had done a remaster of DS1 or Demon's instead.
wierd thing was that dark souls 2 on last gen consoles had more summon signs then dark souls w on new gen console am I the only one that loves this game?
its like they give these scores out like candy when the game has hype and give crap if the game isn't AAA.. im thinking these scores are popularity polls they have in the IGN office
Guess we will have to agree to disagree on which game is better. I've played a lot of both. Bloodborne may be the game of the year for me. Best game I've played since God of War 3.
***** I preferred DS2 personally u tgeonce yo(edit): Dark souls 2 is much easier to get into quickly but once you get into dark souls 1 it is way better than dark souls 2 I still enjoy dark souls 2 though
KavatarGaming DS2 bosses, level design, lore, combat, and enimes... we're all worse than ds1 all ds2 had was smoother animations and better graphics.... considering it's a newer game it was expected...
Dark souls 3. Please be a mix of bloodborne but make it bigger by adding guild/clan/team/covenant battles 5v5 or more on a big map where you would need archers. Have the sorceres flank while the knights sto and the des builds destroy from the inside.
Before saying all this, I love Dark Souls, so much. I played it growing up and still do. I’ve loved every game including the original Dark Souls 2. It may be may favorite actually, but scholar of the first sin oh my lord. I won’t be a hate comment that tells you not to buy either. If you want to purchase this, play it, and experience so much frustration from poor level redesign that you want to throw your controller, so be it. To anyone who will read this though this game is the exact same game as the original, but with so many more enemies added just to kill you and not challenge you. It’s so infuriating because I love these games. It just feels sloppy and like they pushed it out the door to make some money and tell you “It’s like a whole new game!” It’s a giant dumpster fire.
Once you get jnto dark souls games, its extremely addicting..you will not want to play another game after.

DS3 is my first souls game, that's why I'm in this review because I'm going to buy this too. This series is now my favorite :).
The changes to the level design and enemy placements has been quite fun with the exception of the iron keep. That place is just sadistic now.

***** Not really my point lol

Or we could stop remastering games and make new ones! :D
Who knows maybe sony will release a Demon's Souls remastered + Bloodborne bundle at a later time since they're both exclusives.

He was just saying it may be a turn off for newcomers to the series, which is true. Souls games are very difficult to break casual gamers into. He never said "this game is hard, it's bad."
Look at the context and the position of a game reviewer/journalist. They're reporting for the people wondering about buying the game.
***** That's not a downside, that's a positive. We don't want filthy casuals in our space.
It's funny... I'm playing this game for the first time after already beating Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3. I don't think it's a terrible game but the newer games blow it away. I think everything about 3 is better than 2. Combat and Controls feel much tighter, the enemy layouts are better, the environments are better, the music is better, and I also think 3 has much cooler bosses.
there's music? lol
I just heard music on the Boss Fight and Shrine
DS3 is better but PVP in DS2 is the best thing ever also i like the bosses of DS2 more
the bosses of DS3 got boring easily
The first Dark Souls topped by a huge margin as well.
I agree Dark Souls 3 is the undisputed best Souls experience in my opinion.
I've played both the ps3 and ps4 versions. The ps4 version is much better because of the much needed challenge boost and enemy placement changes.
mac1bc I heard the PS3 version was already hard lol. I only ever played the PS4 version.
Dark souls 2 probably has one of the most beautiful credits themes in the entire series
IGN: A game that claims to be the hardest game ever, is too hard
Dark Souls 2: Scholar of first sin--9.0
Turtle King When has Dark Souls EVER claimed to be the hardest game ever?
Eggg Sandwich
Yeah - it's other people who claim "hardest game evarr" I think FROM just wants to make a game that puts the player through an emotional roller coaster.
ConsoleRebels What does that have to do with this comment chain?
ConsoleRebels But fromsoftware has never claimed dark souls to be the hardest game ever. Saying that is just pure ignorance.
IT'S DARK SOULS! ITS SUPPOSED TO BE TOUGH!!
No, it isn't. Anyone who thinks Dark Souls and in fact any of the souls games from Fromsoft are supposed to be difficult by nature needs to be fucking euthanize'd.
MARTIANxMADNESS Yup
MARTIANxMADNESS that's why the creator himself said that he wanted to make hard games
Our goal of a sense of accomplishment was the basis of the game since the early stages of development, and we never strayed from that."
Being thrown into a situation where you have to fight giant armored knights while fighting smaller knights and a fire breathing dragon is certainly a difficult scenario, but it isn't an accomplishing or rewarding one. It's tedious and it's difficulty for the sake of difficulty. And that is no way to design your games.
Lol,at the end of the description,it says lar of the first sin
someone doesnt know how to copy n paste
WheatlypotatOs1 Bloodborne all day
I tried it but even though it was good(really good) the souls series will always be my favorite
Dark Souls 2 has some of the worst areas and bosses in the whole series, but it also has many of the best, which is why it’s my favourite in the series. Combat is the best too.
Just completed it in my week off. Great game. Tougher than the 1st IMO.
Why do a lot of people dislike Dark Souls 2?
I've only played Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne, and this game looks awesome.
Compared to other souls game, this one lacks the unique bosses and pretty easy.
Potatoe My Tomato Ahh I see. Thanks.
+Potatoe My Tomato That help for me as this is my first game in the series
Genesis Nova Yeah starting dark souls 3 and being a new player can be pretty rough..pretty.
BigBoss1982 anybody can spend over 500+ hours in a game if they want to. Pvp seemed to be the big thing that kept people playing ds2
Why does he sound like he's hiding in the closet when doing his reviews.
Lmao
XDDDDD
he should come out of the closet XD
damn.. you're right
Bryan3934 because lots of you tubers go in there closets because of sound
I have no idea if this can possibly be better than DS1 was, but I'm sure it has still many surprises.
looking at the game now after playing bloodborne the movements and animations seem a bit clunky and slow.
Got It Memorized? I had played Dark souls right before DS2 and I noticed the lack of animations in DS2.
Got It Memorized? no shit, sherlock. Slow? Yes. Clunky? I don't understand what people mean by "clunky".
Exactly! i taught it was just me, and ya Bloodborne kinda ruined the soul series for me, don't get me wrong i love the soul series's punishing difficulty and strategic approach to game play making every encounter a boss fight.
No
Dark souls 2 has actually really grown on me in the last few months. Not only is it the only one I can get a consistent 60fps on, but I really enjoyed trying to play without a shield. It makes the game so much more exciting.
I got both darks souls 2 and bloodborne. I'm happy!
👍 now Dark Souls 3
@@RedDrakePL now playing demons souls remake
its amazing how 60fps makes the whole game look much more amazing. I'm going to rebuy it. It looks gorgeous now.
This is definitely my favourite dark souls game
I honestly think Dark Souls 2 gets much more hate than it deserves.
Sure there is some garbage bosses. (Twin Dragonriders, Grave Robbers, Royal Rat Vanguard/Authority, Covetous Demon, Demon of Song, Skeleton Lords)
But there was still some great and very memorable bosses.
(Looking Glass Knight, Sir Alonne, Fume Knight, Velstadt, Burnt Ivory King, Smelter Demons, Sinh, Pursuer, Executioner's Chariot)
They went for quantity over quality, and cheap challenge over a fun and interesting challenge. They made the difficulty a gimmick.
Altar of amana #never_forget !
+CHRIS ZWILLIAMS don't remind me, I got shot from halfway across the map and when I rolled I drowned, it was annoying as hell
demon of song was a cool boss
In my opinion the only shitty boss is ruin sentinels
This is my first darksouls game, i started about a week ago, i admit that boss fight isn't that hard, but the mobs are the actual thing that making this game frustrating, but really enjoyable tho
The only souls game I haven't played and it's downloading right now... Here we go!
Have you finished it?
@@philldewitt8809 Yes, I have bro, but I'm going for the platinum
Yup especially since souls games are known for their difficulty being unforgiving
Bolt Uzumaki Exactly
I agree, difficulty shouldn't be a con. DYING IN ONE FUCKING HIT SHOULD BE.
ISetYourFaceOnFire You make some very valid points haha
*****
Regular. SotFS sounds even worse, though. Random dragons piled into the already crowded worlds? No thanks.
*****
Heidi's has a dragon added according to a review I saw?
*****
Noob? You must be 12. Why would I buy a game twice? And a game I didn't like in the first place?
*****
Didn't I say I slayed many a boss without dying? It's not hard. It's repetitious and tedious.
IGN: slightly better graphics and different enemy placement, 9/10!
I think you might be exaggerating right there bro..
FullMetalBiscuit
You can get a mod for the first to up the frame rate, it really is a great game!
Honestly, I think if you don't count the boss battles, this game is as intense as the first game.
as a souls fan, after spending more than 100 hour into bloodborne....i cant go back playing dark soul 2 slow combat eventhough i spent more then 100 hour playing it last gen.
and bloodborne PVP is sooo much fun..
makubex nas I have this exact problem, going straight from Bloodborne to Dark Souls 2 is way too jarring.
Bloodborne or demon souls which one better
Bloodborn>demon souls>....>dark souls>....>....>dark souls2
makubex nas bloodborne lacks on pvp content, weapon/armor variety, matchmaking system, deeper combat mechanics. 10-20 minutes waiting time for invasions is way to long. this game needs summon signs or atleast some pvp arenas. As invader you lose 30%health for no reason witch makes competitive pvp garbage
My lvl 80 bloodtinge pvp twink oneshots most invaders.. it doesnt even feel rewarding to parry someone with a gun because there is no punish..if i miss the parrytiming on my enemy he get staggered and get loads of damage from my evelyn with rank5 bloodgem and 40+ bloodtinge.
i also miss 2 handing or 1 handing every weapon, powerstance movesets, shield parry/weapon parry, poisesystem, unparryable (jumping) attacks and organized pvp fightclubs on twitch
thats why darksouls 2 is far superior in my opinion
I bought this as a newcomer to the Souls series and boy oh boy do I agree that it's a tough starting point.
"of our favorite games of 2014.lar of the First Sin"
This game is perfect like Dark Souls 1. Anyone who complains it's easy - which it is to many, myself included - is probably a master of Dark Souls 1. Trust me I played DS1 recently and the only time I died was against Bed of Chaos.
The game would be truly great if they fixed the hit boxes but nope
+Chuck Finley And made enemy placement better. and didn't use artificial difficulty, and head a cohesive world with better levels. and a story that didnt read like DS1 fanfiction. Still a good game though. Unfortunatley though, as a sequel it was less of an ESB, and more of a RotJ
@@GildedVoice ds1 fanfiction ? I think you're talking about DS3 .. ds2 went it's own path lore wise which made stand out from the original unlike ds3's fanfiction/fanservice
Random Thoughts big facts
Mr. Realist Tried that and didn't. Thanks for your sharing your opinion/advice though!
I just bought this for PS4. Excited!
Soul Memory is still there, and is still dumb. Along with AGL affecting estus drinking speed.
I think ADP affecting the s is worse than it affecting estus speed
The enemies can be dull and repetitive, bosses lack imagination and innovation, the game suffers from artificial difficulty spikes by jus throwing more enemies at you instead of producing genuinely challenging ones, and the story/lore lacks substance, depth and
emotional investment that the first one had in abundance. This wasn't meant to turn into a rant of this magnitude, but I'm sick of short, inaccurate and bias reviews from these 'big' UA-cam channels.
This. This right here man.
Sorry I forgot you're the final judge when it comes to people and their opinions, I forgot that you're not allowed to enjoy a CoD game. Get realam come on
Lol he's played all of them he's just writing a fair review
Well your right about the AI tracking being shit and most of the enemies are basically same old same old but the lore man, just finding videos on it makes it feel so rich.
Reviewer Knows nothing ? He has put over 100 hours in each game.
Last game I need to have the plat for every From Software game.. can't wait!
No way! Me to
I'll get this game, but I need to platinum Bloodborne and play through the Witcher 3 first. So maybe...July?
Lol
iHeart Cody dark souls was a lot more fun than bloodborne.
Tanner Rowland I feel Bloodborne is a lot more fun.
Let me get this straight,
Dark souls 2 was what people call the worst in the series, and being a veteran souls player putting in thousands of hours in all combined, I agree, and I'm disappointed.
The thing is, Ds2 was released when ps4 and xbone were in the market so this is pretty much the current gen version thats a bit too late.
This is why I can never take IGN seriously. They gave Bloodborne a .1 point higher than Dark souls II despite it being far superior game.
CJ Spartan Its all opinions dude
Dan M I agree I prefer BB
What a strange opinion to have
TheSmooth most people prefer bloodborne
Including me
I am aged 65 loved my games since 1985 and best game I ever played is Dark Souls 2 and thought that PS4 Dark Souls II Scholar of the First Sin was the same but it is not, all they done is add more enemies that I could have done on PS3 Dark Souls 2.
Amazing game I loved every moment of it.
Haven't played this game for a while and I'm so excited to replay it on ps4... After I beat Bloodborne of course
how come it gets the same score as the original version when this is obviously better and improve a lot of things pff!
A 9 isnt bad.
I didn't think this version was much harder outside of Heide's Tower. In some ways this is easier than the original. To me it just felt more balanced for the most part, and just more interesting overall. Still far from perfect, but a better game than it was in 2014.
12$ on steam right now! i already beat the first one and ds3 but never played this one .... should i get it asap at this price or wait for a 80-90% discount? lol
get it now!! really fun game!
AlexTheMan Keiser alright xD
You won't regret it.
It was worth the 25 dollars for me.
i bought it already lol just trying to finish my other game before strating this one
The best dark souls for me
am i the only one who thinks that demon's souls is still the best in the souls game??
A True Gamer everyone has there own opinions
+A True Gamer i thing that the first souls game you played is everyone's favorite mine's ds1, other people like ds2 more because they played it first and so on. it think it's because it's the first time you enter the world of a souls game and that experience is only gained one time, if you play a souls game after that it will feel familiar and won't have the same impact/effect on you(srry for bad english)
Ben Leenman I played DS1 first but DS2 is my favorite although imo bloodborne is better than all of them once again in my opinion
better than this one
Probably just nostalgia. I couldn't get into it, but dark souls 1 blew me away
I played the previous version, and now I just got this one. I have to say, this is definitely already feeling like the previous game with all the tough enemies in places you wouldn't think. It also feels like the enemies now have 1% mercy again. This is how it was meant to be haha.
I love dark souls 2 i put so many hours into this game😀 its sad to see the end of the franchise 😢
Also the credits song in ds2 😢
If you're wondering what's the name of the song, it's called "Longing"!
This game is one of the best games I've played.
Nice! Looking forward to playing this game!
im glad a fan reviewed the game
Love this game
Honestly everything in dark souls made sense once i learned that you can get the NPCS to fight eachother.... I Learned that from dennis.
If I've never played Dark Souls 2 or Bloodborne, which one should I get?
Legion Normandy If you like a challenge and excellent level design get bloodborne. If you enjoy a mildly challenging game and terrible level design get dark souls 2
Legion Normandy Start with the Dark Souls series
Bloodborne is quite honestly the best game I've ever played, get Bloodborne my man, May The Blood Guide Your Way.
Bloodborne.
bloodborne all the way..you will never regeat it
Didn't play Dark Souls 2 and only played a little of the first one.
I've looked at enough gameplay of Dark Souls 2 on the 360 and PS3 to tell that there's been a graphical enhancement.
Tougher starting point is a con?
If I was a mindless button masher then yes I deserve punishment like that.
Still to this day a great soul game in my opinion
This > bloodborne
opinions are and will always be opinions
PrimeVinyl I guess you don't have a ps4
DRM Sparkles Xbox owner reassuring himself, so sad lmao.
I like how he didn't review the PVP of the game like SOOOOOO many other reviewers do for some odd reason.
Not sure if anyone will see this but I've never played a DS game but I really want to get into it. Is this a good game to start with?
It's really hard, other than that it's a really fun game
Id recommend starting with the first one, but it doesnt really matter
Any of the Pokémon games are good. Personally Souls Silver is my favorite but that's just me.
johnnyhorsedick Black and White 2 werent good
I personally recommend ghosts, I believe it was the best installment ti the seriee
The background music on this is so fantastic
Poor man's Bloodborne.
gyrobasel same price bub
KavatarGaming 13 dollars on steam lol
+jørgen høgnsex bloodborne ain't on steam tho
jørgen høgnsex Not when it first came out...
edgy mans dark souls
Infinite poise and stamina enemies with no time to recover after attacking all hitting through each other is definitely not tough but fair.
If you like terrible graphics in videogames, then this game is for you ;D
It's called stylised
I love this game because it challenge you it's hard, now days games are to ease they help you a lot like call of duty campaign and a lot of others games they help you aim just press the aim button and kill to ease people complain about this game that is to hard in this game you have to survive the stamina finish it is a beautiful game that makes you show your skills this game is the best game
Should I play this first or Bloodborne?
the stories are not linked what so ever so you can play either first.
They are two different games. I'd recommend Bloodborne though since Dark Souls II is by far the worst in the series.
Bloodborne gave me the same feeling of wonder as Demon's Souls, DS2 is good but can't even touch bloodborne's quality.
Bloodborne has a much better combat system, I also find the world much more interesting in Bloodborne.
Power Bomb Maestro you mean broken PvP and the same environment everywhere you go?
Many people say that DS2 is the worst of the series but they don't realize an important aspect of the human mind. Whenever you love something so much you will create great expectations for next iterations of the game and these expectations are usually hard to meet. For example, I played DS1, DS and DS2 in that order and I prefer DS1. But if people play them in other order they will probably like better the first one they played.
2?
Amazing?
Just because is dark souls?
ds2 is amazing
Tips to make DkS2 more challenging are welcome and appreciated, as I've noticed a humongous difference in difficulty gap. What used to be one huge enemy that had difficult move sets to learn is now a horde of smaller enemies with spears.
Anyways, what are your guys' thoughts? What do you think of Dark Souls 2? What about Scholar of the First Sin?
7.8/10 Too hard - IGN
Ok...I have a list of stuffs I need now...
1-Dragon Age: Inquisition
2-The Master Chief Collection
3-Destiny
4-Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin
5-Dying Light
6-Forza 5
7-Forza Horizon 2
8-Wolfenstein
And when they come out:
9-Mad Max
10-Just Cause 3
11-Halo 5 Guardians
12-The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
13-Mirror's Edge
14-Tom Clancy's The Division
15-Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor GOTY Edition
Should I get this or Bloodborne??
+Gabriel Mendez I would say DS2 if u liked it youll love bloodborne ;D
bloodobrne
Bloodborne is better than Dark Souls 2, but Dark Souls 1 is probably better than Bloodborne
bloodbourne was a huge disappointment. why to linear and the pvp is horrible i have been playing dks2 on my ps3 more than bloodbourne.
It was.
"Con: It's too hard" Hahaha nice joke!
wierd thing was that dark souls 2 on last gen consoles had more summon signs then dark souls w on new gen console am I the only one that loves this game?
There's rly no point when bloodborne is out and its a better game
Unless you haven't played DS2 and/or don't have a ps4.
Im not sure if you knew but some people dont have a ps4.
***** Said no one ever.
Who's fault is that? It's not like they're in short supply, and $400 isn't exactly going to break the bank...
Teflon Vaughn It could. Everyone's financial situation is different.
I wish Marty Silva did all of IGN's reviews.
Another 9.0 huh
its like they give these scores out like candy when the game has hype and give crap if the game isn't AAA.. im thinking these scores are popularity polls they have in the IGN office
Guess we will have to agree to disagree on which game is better. I've played a lot of both. Bloodborne may be the game of the year for me. Best game I've played since God of War 3.
This game is a mess, why they didn't remastered the first dark souls instead of this shitty sequel
***** I preferred DS2 personally u tgeonce yo(edit): Dark souls 2 is much easier to get into quickly but once you get into dark souls 1 it is way better than dark souls 2 I still enjoy dark souls 2 though
***** what are you talking about ds2 is a great game. not as good as ds1 in terms of creativity but its more fun.
+hitlers ballsack Hah! it's more casual..
Geisier meh I personally enjoyed DS2 way more than DS1 (edit): I prefer dark souls 1 is far superior to dark souls 2 imo
Mission succesfull
This or bloodborne?
bloodborne
This. Bloodborne is a much different game (and its not as good). But instead of looking only at these two, go get dark souls 3.
bloodborne is pretty dope get it first then ds2
both.
Choose Bloodborne!! I thing that Dark Souls 2 is too lame and slow paced, but of course that's only my personal opinion.
STOP POSTING REVIEWS FOR REMASTERED GAMES THAT ALREADY HAVE REVIEWS!!!!
Mystic Dragon Gaming I am glad they did
+Mystic Dragon Gaming yeh i liked this ...piss off
Sion Jeff Jones Damn dude, why so rude??
+Mystic Dragon Gaming Your comment about the video was rude and demanding
Sion Jeff Jones Wow i never heard that one before.
