- BROKEN CRANK! - Piaggio Zip SP Bottom End Rebuild
In this video you will see a bottom end rebuild on my Piaggio Zip.
The stock crankshaft could not handle the power of the #Stage6 Streetrace cylinder any more. It lasted about 1.5 years, pretty much good.
It was time to get a better crankshaft, also for future better cylinders.
It is a #Doppler Endurance HPC crankshaft. Also new #Polini bearings.

You can't just bang your crankshaft with a hammer because you will throw it out of balance. There are two speciality tools called the crankshaft puller and crankshaft pusher for safely splitting the engine case halves, installing the crankshaft, removing the crankshaft and centering it if needed. Also If you buy aftermarket bolts they have to be 10.8 hardness and before installing the crankshaft oil seals apply some oil because you don't want to run them dry. The reason why your bearing did not go in smoothly was because you did not heat up the engine cases enough and the bearing had to be cold and same thing goes to joining the case halves together.
Also every time you remove tour cylinder or piston you should replace your small end bearing and the spark plug.
Hope this helps!
In 17 years I have never seen a stock crankshaft fail on a Piaggio 50cc with a low revving 70cc.
There is always first time for everything
@@binostuning how many rpms were you turning ? I'm installing one on my Zuma and plan on doing a max of 11k. I'm also installing a s6 sport pro mk2 on my other Zuma 50 as well with a yasuni r with a stock low mile crank and plan to keep it at 11k too.
@@nickritter1992 I'm running around 10.5k rpm. It's dangerous to run a stock crank with sport pro.
My crank bearings are failing but I’m just gonna ride it till it blows up
I also had a hard time rolling, I thought it was a check I'm not doing well, I heated the crankcase, the bearings were cold, I'm going to install the packaging, only I have to make another thread
I did mine with hammer and sockets no special tools was a much easier job than I thought it was going to be crank is perfectly smooth and silent now
just about to do the same job on my liberty, did you put the oil seals in before the bearings ? or can you put them in later. also you can use a bolt with a socket on either side to pull the bearings in to place.
I prefer to put the oil seals after installing the crankshaft and close/seal the crankcase. Remember to put little grease on the seals to slide easier.
That crank is probably gone. You have to check it for runout. Never hit the crank with the hammer or the cases trying to join them.
I could smell the gasoline and oil from the screen. Great video!
Buen trabajo👍👈
U forgot your water pump?
Why are you pounding on the crankshaft broooooo :( wawww loll
I was a total newbee, and banged on my hpc crank. Well it never ran well. Havent used it. I swapped carbs, cdi, coil, etc and took it to other pro builders and they couldn’t find the problem on why it ran horrible on low end acceleration. Well after some time ive come to the conclusion i may have bent the crank. Hence creating a wobble, and possibly air leak while it spins!
I plan to open it up. So im hear finding ways on puting it back together without hammering on the crank 😏
@@arrepuess put the crank in the freezer and put the bearings in the oven for about 20 minutes then first put the bearings on the crankshaft on both sides
Let it cool down heaten up the engine where the crack is going to sit in and i will just slide in place.. no need to hammer anything and the easiest way is to first put the bearings on the crackshaft✅
@@aristobashari7044 thanks for that info. Luckily i got it running great. I had other inconspicuous problems
@@arrepuess what was the problem?
@@StruukenDuukers mainly my stock intake & tuning. The fuel petcock vacuum line wasnt vaccumming, so fuel would not flow freely. The carb bore was bigger than the stock intake. It reduced inside. And all my components were larger upgrades
nice!
how long did this last? did it break anytime soon?
nop. it's still making a ton of power
Nice one bro!
Can you posta link of the tool for porting? I would really like to have it.
tnx
Also nice vid:)
Search on eBay for porting tools.
hello sir
You need to get yourself a heat temperature sensor gun so you can tell what temperature ur heating the case to, also put a nut on the crank then use the rubber dead blow hammer to tap the crank in, metal to metal tapping on the crank is bad, all in all at least your about this life 👍
I need to get a heat gun first. And the tapping is not metal to metal. My hammer is plastic and I'm hitting a wrench extension not the crankshaft.
Thats what i mean tho, the extention is metal and contacting the crank, the point of a rubber mallet/deadblow hammer is you can tap the crankshaft directly (no metal extention), the metal extention can flatten the tip of the crank or damage the thread, im not trying to say it dosent work the way your doing it but see your going at it hard so thought id chuck you some info you could use.
@@1sevzb475 OK I understand what you mean. I have used the extension just to "extend" the crankshaft. I think it doesn't really make any damage because I don't hit the extension to the shaft (metal to metal). But anyway thanks for the tip.
How long did it take you to build
if i have all the parts, i can do it in one day, but it's better not to hurry in such a repair.
Anyone knows the squish for original (50cc) cylinder??? Piaggio zip sp mk1
I can guess around 1.0mm ?
Hi thks four your excellent video I have a Piaggio Zip 2T every time when I start the scooter I need to warm up first before I drive is normal thank
Yes always is good to give it a warm up
What torque spring you have?
The black stock one
Is malossi crankshaft good to?
I have not any experience with mallossi crankshaft.
to shut the musak, hit the M key (mute) !!!
When do you gonna explain how you did it with the water pump
Na így ne tegyen be senki főtengelyt
That's true but I don't have any problem yet
Mine completely snapped in half today I’m absolutely gutted 😞
It's time to upgrade it
@@binostuning got a genuine piaggio one for it, I’m keeping it as a 50 so not much point in buying a performance one
What did you use to holf the little tube on cilinder because mine is leaking..
Which tube ? At the top which the coolant passes?
How much to tighten at the head and in the middle at ignition
11Nm head and 15Nm fly wheel nut
What’s the songs called ?
No engine oil?
nope its a 2 stroke for a reason it puts oil in with the fuel automatically or you can pre-mix and put it in yourself
On the variator side I have bashed the bearing incorrectly, any good ways of getting it back out? Thanks
I think the opposite way that you bashed in ?!
Binos_Tuning Not supposed to bash the inside ring of the bearing but I might have to in this case.
@@HoldMyBeerDayZ yep.. unless you have a special bearing puller
How many lbs of torque for the crankcase bolts?
12Nm
At 00:38, how did you lift the box from the engine? What needs to be done to do that?
You have to disassemble all the cables and wires, the rear shock bolt, the main engine bolt that attaches to the frame, water pump hoses and the rear brake cable.
So the stator connections, choke cable, brake cable, main mount nut and rear shock for an air cooled piaggio zip?
1:27 how did that come off so easy man? Mine is only a little bit loose but it won't come off...
I had to press the one side of the crankshaft so the case opens. Then with knocking comes off.
Did anyone realize that he forget to put waterpump
Did you realize that he has an electric water pump?
@@binostuning i am not really sure that u can put electric water pump on this type of cylinder😀
Facepalm. There is 0% chance that crank is true after your treatment.
2nd facepalm. It works after my treatment, since 2019.
Binos Tuning the fact that it works, does not change the fact that you have knocked crank out of true. Nor does it change the fact that you should never instal it that way. Im glad that you are happy with the way it works. Cheers.
@@blind8686 I didn't say that is the correct way, but it does work since then.
buy bigger carb lmao
