Okay I have to say I LOVE this type of review: an initial unbox and real-time swatching of the product that you are reviewing and then coming back a few weeks and paintings later for a real review!!! I love EVERYTHING about this video but my favorites are the real-time swatching and that the video is 30mins long. For a review video I think 30mins is perfect:) Thank you for sharing, love this video. Much love💜
I would love it if you did like a top 3 watercolor paints for each price point: $10, 20-30, 50, 100+ etc, and if some of them are fighting above their weight category
I absolutely agree with using a new product a few times in order to get an accurate impression. That being said, I love hearing your commentary as you unbox and swatch because its so conversational. This is definitely something to watch while having a cup of tea.
Yes, the conversational tone & extremely knowledgeable chat had me hoping you’d nix the time-lapse idea ... so glad you did. This is a winner concept, initially opening then proving (or not) first impressions. Thanks for your honesty & “real ness”, I really appreciate it. And I didn’t snooze, although did listen to last Sat chat twice because, you know, dropped off!🙃
I am enjoying your initial swatching so much not only because of the product but also you explanations of watercolour paint in general as well as your reactions to the paint. I'm a sucker for nifty cool palettes, too. It's hard to resist cute. (but I am getting better at resisting)
I'm glad I could help make you say YES to these :D I ended up loving them, it's a hard toss up now between recommending these or Pretty Excellent as a great $20 range set for beginners. I think the only thing it's really lacking is the durable metal tin, but the diamond rhombus shape pan layout is so beautiful. Super intense and re-wet like a dream for this cheap right?!
I actually like how this palette looks, definitely different from the most. :D It was fun to watch you unbox it and listen to your thoughts about the palette, assumably hidden compartments and the logo design on the pencil. This really made my day. Thank you!
I was cracking up how she was trying to find the secret compartment before even testing the paints. Go ahead and break it Lindsay. But she found the little plastic insert.
@@recoveringsoul755 To be fair, I would do exactly the same. Imagine reviewing it and not mentioning the secret stuff! :D That's how you know Lindsay is thorough with her reviews!

Thank you a thousand times for this review. I bought the colours and my doubts about my talent are almost gone. This palette is perfect for me. Also the brush is incredible.
They release the colour easily very vibrant, I find swatching videos are relaxing but this is too interesting to fall asleep to. The cookie crumbs keep me awake anyway. 🥛🍪😴😴
These are so tempting 😬 it was fun watching your unboxing and first impressions. Nice to have your opinion after testing them though. Makes it much more useful. Thanks Lindsay!
Cat with paint water! Lol must be an international thing my cat loves paint water too. Enjoyed the unboxing and the paint swatches you did, very informative and a bonus for me was when you were aww I love this colour I do this too. Pictures look so pretty. Thanks for all the wonderful information.
Loving the unboxing at the beginning and I really like this set. I have been looking for a cheap, on the go, watercolour set. This may be the answer😊. Thank you for this review
I like the combined unboxing and review! I was laughing at you trying to pull the palette apart- that would be me. Totally distracted by taking it apart before I painted with it. And I really appreciate that you try things out before reviewing them. I trust your reviews, you haven’t steered me wrong yet! I’ve been using up my Cotman Sketchers palette, trying to decide if I want to refill with prof quality half pans or with Cotman again. In spite of having more prof paint than I can use, I’ve painted a lot with this little palette this year and have gotten some good results. I may try this Miya instead just for fun.

It was fun watching you unbox the paints, but the best part was when you were giving us so much information while you were putting the paints on the cheat sheet! I always love picking your brain for information that I would never get anywhere else.
Also agree with many others. This video is ideal for me, both length and type. I like seeing the difference between first impressions and later thoughts in a single video. Honestly, I could go for a longer video, even an hour. I think another poster mentioned it was like chatting. Personally, I enjoy the livestream replays, and this reminded me if that. Easy, low pressure, fun to listen, and I learn. ❤️ Perfect!
I've seen several reviews on this set, and another channel I watch who does tutorials recently starting using it for multiple projects after receiving it, it performs quite well. It comes in a dark version of packaging as well.
Fun unboxing and as always, great review! This watercolor set looks fantastic! Also looks like a lot of watercolor paint, thick pans, too. Your painting with them, the other day, was beautiful. Tfs, Lindsay.
I had just gotten the MIYA set about 10 days before your review. I am a total beginner, but I love them. Certainly seems to be an economical, worthwhile set for a novice like me. Love your videos. I am enjoying working along...
Even when you have done zero research for these, you are still so full of knowledge. I’m super impressed that you can tell what colors they are just by looking. This set is so cute! I know what you’re talking about with the Miya pod watercolors. Almost bought them, but the reviews about the palette design stopped me too. This unboxing portion was fun. I’m glad these got your seal of approval! And that you mentioned they are like Cotmans. That soothes my want monster. XD Since I have cotmans and love them. Man, these companies really know how to make cute palettes to tempt us. Though the lack of a mixing area is a con in my book. Another good thing, so my wallet will not take a hit. XD
I received this set for Xmas. I am a total novice. I swatched out on the provided card. I then went to Google and did a screenshot of the Chinese annotated card and selected translate. The only non generic translation i.e. red, blue, green was "hooke green". I love your channel and have followed for years. I am a card maker/stamper. I am going to dabble in watercolor! Wish me luck.
this is nice, relaxing video after work :) it's not boring hearing you talk about the colors, it's interesting because you know so much about colors in general. I look forward to the day when i can buy more watercolors.. but so many options. x) I'm really curious about gansai tambi colors.
I actually really do like it when people swatch and describe each color LOL and this is a very good set regarding color selection, and yes the colors are listed on the Amazon product page. I believe they might be in the picture slide show when you Tap the product picture and go through the individual product pictures. :-) I was hoping you would get this set Lindsay!
I loved this unboxing, as a beginner, well I've always dabbled with paints in the past. I love your videos, you always make things so much less daunting. Giving me a lot more confidence to go ahead and give it a try. Thank you for all you give, knowledge and laughter too. Love your videos. JuliAnn 😃
They are tempting. I love your reviews, Thanks for steering us in the right direction. I guess I have plenty of quality watercolors for now. Thanks Lindsay!
I would rather see a used set of paint than an unboxing, but I may be in the minority on this one. Thanks for a video with more substance! You are great
Thank you for these kind of videos! I've been struggling with watercolors in card making. Using a wet brush directly to dry paint is just what I wanted to find!
Hey Lindsay I really enjoyed you swatching these in real time with us watching! I am not so fond of videos with finished swatches or ones that are sped up...but I can watch these slower real time swatching for hours! I like to know your first impressions, as I love to swatch. For example we can see the paint rewetting ease, texture, your favourite colours in a set, and some surprizes. So if you do a swatch in front of us, then often I don't have to buy it, as I had joy just watching you do yours, as if I am swatching it myself. They looked so pigmented for a student set! Hi I just brought a set of 48 shuttle/art water colours, I'm a beginner to so didn't want huge outlay ,I have just done a swatch card and these colours are bright . Will have to see how they hold up over time , but good little travel pack ( also came with 2 waterbrushes)
I really enjoyed the style of video I too have seen the Maya in the " pod" and I'm really tempted by them so this evaluation helps thank you so much Lindsay you're always great!
You are fun !!! Helpful review. Oh, flower head deer are popular :) BTW I've watched some of those UA-camrs who are enjoying the $14 Miya 18 color watercolor palette tin - it is a cutie unique tin
It was fun watching you swatch this set and give review. Yes, stressed too. Mixing colors and sketching helps. That deer cracked me up.😂 Thanks Lindsay!
I really like how you combined 2 into 1. Even though it was different and a little difficult for you. Thanks for sharing. I could do a video on all the things I bought thanks to the frugal crafter. So thanks Lindsey.
I completely agree that you've got to actually work with a product before giving a review. Whenever I review a new supply I always do a full piece in the review video, not just the swatches. There are so many things, watercolours specifically, that I felt very differently about when swatching and when actually working with them.
Thanks Lindsay. Yup jerrys just increased their shipping. And now you have to buy $50.00 worth to get free shipping as well. Idk about Blick. Haven't checked. Swatching is so relaxing to watch. Take care.😍
I love seeing reasonably priced alternatives to cotman! When i was getting into watercolour i found that the cotman sketchers box of 12 colours ran at about $60-80 Australian dollars at our 'big box art store" (yup, only have one big mainstream art supplier), and the studio set of 45 is around $120-150.. Needless to say i didn't get a cotman set and ended up starting my WC journey with mungyo and paul rubens (for a fraction of the cost), both based on reviews from this channel.
Loved the video! Lindsay, if you look this up under Himi instead of Maya on Amazon you can get it in white, yellow or green for two dollars less than the listing you point to ( as of right now). The only reason I know is I wanted to see if I could still get it in white if I caved so I did more searching and found it. - just FYI! Also has the listing for the 12 and 24 packages on the same page.
Would love to see more tutorials with this palette Lindsay:)) I have this set and love the quality! Only con is the plastic palette, I would have preferred a reusable tin instead but for the price, I can’t really complain too much.
Thank you for this! I have been eyeing the 45 set of cotman for YEARS, but couldn't justify $100 AUD on paints, but this set is $34 AUD on Amazon so I will definitely be grabbing a set!
The deer with the flower face, just wow! I cracked up over your comment that we don't usually get to see you potentially destroy the packaging. Great video!!!!! I hope your cat didn't get the paint water
@@thefrugalcrafter good! I've had issues with pets and crafting. Glittering cards on my lap on the couch with a jack Russell terrier, dropping a petal points ink pad with a lab pit mix, spraying liquid watercolor with the lab pit mix.... you get the point.
@@jesseb5112 my husband once misplaced a sewing needle, and quite a time later, his dog needed to be x-rayed for something, and the sewing needle showed up clear as day, eye of the needle and all. The vet called us in to look at the x-ray. Darn dog. There wasn't anything we could do about it and it was unrelated to whatever issue we brought the dog in for. No MRI's for you doggy!
Just watched a lady paint a white cherry blossom. It was beautiful. In the video she uses a identical palette, but it is black. The paint is never mentioned and I was quite curious as to what it was, then I saw this video and it appears to be MIYA or a clone there of. The odd thing is that in the description, Windsor & Newton paint is referenced for painting the flower.
This is absolutely hilarious! I personally don't like unboxings at all, and got to the "spoilers" (buy a few real tubes of paint) but your initial attempts at pulling the product out 😂 and trying to be nice ("well uh, um, YES isn't this just ...what it is!" &c) and you truly didn't say a negative thing. if I were to attempt what you've done here, most of my words would be bleeped out and I don't even curse anymore (Deo Gratias! 😂) (I'm not laughing at God... people get so offended about everything on YT!) If I had to do unboxings, the videos would show me cursing and throwing things into the bin and camera off in under a minute. But this was enjoyable to listen to (the first and last parts).
The Miya himi paints are exceptionally good paints you could have them around for years a very good beginning artist paint and the price is right. If you can get them. Buy them. They are wonderful to use.
I could tell you were in a snarky mood when you were unboxing. I think it’s cool that you give them a 2nd chance for a 1st impression when trying new products. That’s totally fair and I agree. I need to learn how to do your roses because I love them so much! All of the pieces were very nice, but I wouldn’t expect anything less from your creative genius! My watercolor muse! LOL Note: I found my desktop today *Im STILL unpacking the house and setting up the rooms **with NO help** so as a treat I went out and got that 2nd plate so I can cut 1 up. Found my paints and mica powders too. I’ve never owned any chalks or pastels and couldn’t find any at HL today. They don’t even have Jane’s stuff because I was just going to grab one of hers. Booooo! Tomorrow is the day! 🤞🤞🤞 LOL
I would absolutely use this in future as a fall-asleep video, but there are always ads in the middle! There's nothing like falling asleep, only to jerk awake to "STAHP SLEEPING WITH EARBUDS IN. YOUR. EEAAARS" lol
You always seem to post at my lunch break. I am not stalking you! LOL at minute 3.30, I would have got the rubber hammer. :D I tried to look them up in Canada and didn't find them. But a set of brushes came up and they had the same "deer with the flower face" logo on it. Maybe that is their logo? They also had an elephant with pink flowers on its face on another set of brushes. I know it doesn't matter, but it was funny. Your voice sounded so much calmer in the second part of the video. ;) Thank you for the review!
Really enjoy your reviews. Ordered the pallet, should arrive today. Excited to swatch the paints. Curious- what did you have in the bottom of the olive jar.
I got my daughters each a set of these for Christmas, abased on Kimberly Crick’s review. I have the Pretty Excellent set, and was planning to get them the same Until I saw her review. How do these compare to the Doodlehog 36 set? I got the DH 36 on a lightning deal after seeing your video... you mentioned they were very familiar, and I got the impression maybe the same as Altenew (so, probably Superior?).
You know, I looked for my 36 set to compare in this video but I think I leant it to one of my kids. I'd say very comparable. I'd give the edge to doodlehog 36 because it is a uniform tin that take standard half pans and had a mixing area. The paint themselves are comparble.
I really enjoy swatching for some reason. Very relaxing.
I have taken to watching all videos whether it is of interest to me or not. I find you good company! lol

Bless you Lindsay :) lol .. I would of done the same .. Open the pkg , then look for a hidden paint tray ..lol..Have a fun blessed day :)
Great review, I love the pigment intensity and the variety of colors- thank you!! 🤗💚🌷🖌️🎨🖼️
Fun looking paintbox
Great timing. I was wondering about these and the Himi. I think from my limited (none) knowledge Himi may be made by Miya too???
Thank you for this! I have been eyeing the 45 set of cotman for YEARS, but couldn't justify $100 AUD on paints, but this set is $34 AUD on Amazon so I will definitely be grabbing a set!
You won't be disappointed!
The deer with the flower face, just wow! I cracked up over your comment that we don't usually get to see you potentially destroy the packaging. Great video!!!!! I hope your cat didn't get the paint water
Nope, I change the water every day so she can't get first water anyway lol
@@recoveringsoul755 wow! We've never had an xray issue, but I can relate.
I appreciate your opinions on supplies thank you for doing videos like this
Just spoke to Blick and the just got in the 6 x 9 inch watercolor 100% cotton pack mine that was on back order already shipped out. FYI
Interesting, well, the act a lot like Cotman by W&N. Prodably she had a default video description with a supply list she didn't update.
Fabulous review format, so complete 😍👍🎨
This is absolutely hilarious! I personally don't like unboxings at all, and got to the "spoilers" (buy a few real tubes of paint) but your initial attempts at pulling the product out 😂 and trying to be nice ("well uh, um, YES isn't this just ...what it is!" &c) and you truly didn't say a negative thing. if I were to attempt what you've done here, most of my words would be bleeped out and I don't even curse anymore (Deo Gratias! 😂) (I'm not laughing at God... people get so offended about everything on YT!)
If I had to do unboxings, the videos would show me cursing and throwing things into the bin and camera off in under a minute. But this was enjoyable to listen to (the first and last parts).
So satisfying to watch 😍
The Miya himi paints are exceptionally good paints you could have them around for years a very good beginning artist paint and the price is right. If you can get them. Buy them. They are wonderful to use.
I did buy one from Amazon its more expensive in Canada but I don't regret it the colors are very nice.
Old way of the reviews it's so much better 😊
Skip ahead past the searching for the"review"
I could tell you were in a snarky mood when you were unboxing. I think it’s cool that you give them a 2nd chance for a 1st impression when trying new products. That’s totally fair and I agree. I need to learn how to do your roses because I love them so much! All of the pieces were very nice, but I wouldn’t expect anything less from your creative genius! My watercolor muse! LOL
Note: I found my desktop today *Im STILL unpacking the house and setting up the rooms **with NO help** so as a treat I went out and got that 2nd plate so I can cut 1 up.
😂
Lol!!!! I wish we could select silent ads, some of them are lovely and unobtrusive and stay with the vibe of the video. Others really wake you up.
This video totally destressed me. Thank you 🙏🏻💕
This was so much fun!!
Tackling brushes respond to heat and will return to shape when heated boiling water will reshape the brush to a point
We all know about jangy! Lol Love your energy!
Great review!
I got my daughters each a set of these for Christmas, abased on Kimberly Crick’s review. I have the Pretty Excellent set, and was planning to get them the same
Until I saw her review.
This was fun to watch and I bought it, but I’m new to wc, will you tell me what/ how do you glaze it? Thank you for your tutorials! ❤️
Do you mean the glazing painting technique or sealing the painting?
