I immediately went into nostalgia mode ❤️Aww my grandmother use to make it like this but she used ham hocks 👩🍳RIH to all the grandmothers who could cook 👩🍳 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thats how my dad made them but he used baby lima beans.....my tongue would slap my eyebrows clean off my forehead they was so good...and don't get me started on the black eyed peas.
It’s really good if you sauté the smoke meat for a bit, then add some dice onion and garlic and scrape up the bits then I add my stock and put the meat back in. Delish!😊
In my house we put those beans over white rice. Mmmgood! We cook it the same way but being in South Carolina, we are rice eaters, oh, don't forget the texas pete!😅❤
If you cook this please add onions, green pepper, fresh garlic oregano, bay leaf and black pepper. One of my staple dishes, just made it tonight. I use turkey tails. Delicious! ❤
Same as what my family uses, but I add a little salt. But now my son is, "vegetarian 😑 so I won't be adding meat 😢 to this pot to slow cook for tomorrow 😅.
What a treat to see Mr Neely!!! Those beans take me back to my childhood (1970's). I think my Mom used either smoked ham hocks or smoked pork neck bones. Either way, that was some good savory eating on a budget. Sure miss my Mama... ☺️

AB. I love lima beans. Good grief! On this beautiful Friday. Yes sir!! Have a great weekend. That's all I cook with. Smoked turkey necks, 🍗.. Enjoy.. ❤️🐞
I make this often, but use smoked ham hocks. I look forward to trying the turkey leg. Also, mine is more of a butter bean soup. A little more liquid than this one. I love it!
I love this meal. My dad made the best ones. Every once in a while he's toss in some poultry seasoning just to up the flavor. As kids we just thought he liked the meal. Fact was we were thin on cash, and us kids never noticed it. To this day I love beans. Make them on a regular basis. I'm grateful to my parents for giving this stuff to us kids.
I have been eating large limas just like that since I was a kid. Turns out my husband loves them too. After watching your black eye peas in a crock pot, I decided to adopt that for my next pot of limas. OMG! They turned out so good, I think the best ones I ever cooked. Thank you AB.
I always use smoked ham hocks and add onion and a bay leaf and more broth. Never tried a smoked turkey leg, will have to try it. Thanks AB, Melaney from SoCal

These are my favorite white or green Lima beans!!! BUT I am not good at cooking any kind of beans!!! Thx AB for posting this video, it helps a lot and it looks sooooo good🙏🏽❤️
Made this for dinner last night and it came out Amazing!! And I kept more of the liquid in mines. Thank You for always keeping us laced with meal ideas and recipes 💜
I cook WONDERFUL Lima Beans...but my way has way more steps! I tried this last night, and it was INCREDIBLE. I am gonna try some Red Beans this way with my remaining smoked turkey leg!!! Simple is sometimes BETTER 😊 Nice job!!! As I was eating them last night all I could think about was how proud my Grandmother would have been of them Butter Beans. ❤
I've never had this dish before, and I can already tell I've been missing out. That looks so delicious. I can't wait to surprise my fiancée with this one.
I didn’t know until about 10 years ago, that you could use smoked turkey wing or drumstick instead of ham hocks, which are sometimes hard to find… so happy my Dad taught me that trick… I may ham and limes several times during the year and I make them just like you do- very very very simple & delicious! Sometimes my husband puts ketchup on his if the beans are thick enough. Enjoyed your video. Will watch more of your videos. Thank-u~ : )
I wanted a good recipe for this. I watched another channel first and he just didn’t seem like he knew how to cook southern beans. As soon as I watched the first minute of this creator I thought, “ok this guys got it” and he does. I liked him so much I subscribed. Ty fir the recipe
Looks delicious!!! I, however, do not cook my butter bean liquid down so much. Butter beans have a tendency to be drier than other types of beans and when storing them, they soak up even more of the cooking liquid, so I keep more liquid in my pot for this reason.
I love the fact you are using the Dutchy--bought one and kinda' lost on things to make in them and use them. Also, I really enjoy and learning when you use the crockpot. I subscribed over a year ago and glad I did. Got my Dutchy ready and a bag of butter beans that have soaked, now I know what to do. I would imagine 1 1/2 hours for most standard beans then? (p.s. when you put your spoon in there with the skin, that skin would go into a piece of pita and into my mouth with a big smile.)
I ain't got but one suggestion and it's probably from my childhood, but I still do it. Dried Lima beans (ham or turkey added) I put French's Mustard on it as a condiment. Looks delicious and thankyou for showing and reminding me of the old flavors!
Watching in tears today is my great grandma's birthday. I'll be sharing on shorts for her today ❤ she used to make this and I hated it til one day I gave in and ate them. She used to take the skin off the beans and idk if she just always did that or it was for me because I had sensory issues eating certain foods, I've never seen anyone else take the time to peel every bean. 😢😢 omg I cook them today for her and will go to the graveyard. I never paid attention to her recipes in the kitchen but after cooking something many times and tasting it I come really close. Miss her dearly this dish will bring me back to her ❤ 2nd year with her 95 year old fiesty self ❤
Sounds so good! I love limas! My mother used to make green beans with potatoes onion and ham and served it with corn bread. It was very good but too salty!
AB I've made Lima beans hundreds of times but I never thought to put a whole smoke. Turkey legend. I always use smoked Turkey necks or cut up Turkey wings. That was the best butter beans, Lima beans. Whatever kind of beans you want to call them that I've made in a while. I put it over some Jasmine rice and it was delicious. Made some fried chicken to go with it
