Hi there nice video. I am thinking of getting one of these portable car play head units. But my question is this should I leave it in the car whenever I go places?
This one is in one of my cars, and I leave it in there all the time. However, whether you want to leave it in the car or not could depend on where you park and how comfortable you are leaving things in your car. This unit is easy to remove since it has the magnetic mounting point, so if you need to remove it (and take it with you or store it in the glovebox), you can!
@@frenchineeranother question. If i use the aux cable to hear music thru the car speakers will i also hear the caller thru the car speakers during a call?
Since this is really an interface for CarPlay and Android Auto, you can't install apps on it directly. You can use any compatible app once you're connected to CarPlay and Android Auto though! As for the wallpaper, in Android Auto it will match your phone's wallpaper.
I'm not 100% sure, though the magnetic release makes it really easy to take out of the car when you park it. I recommend reaching out to MINIX directly to see if they have better info on high heat.
don't get me wrong it's good to see a high quailty display...but like £225/$230 nope.....that can not be justified when the carpuride ones are under half that cost with multiple size options availible and even waterproof ones for bikes....they are the go-to in this space and it seems everyone just wants to knock them off. That price can't be justified to have a few more frames for something that is effectivley a play pause button for spotify and maps thats not on your phone. There are many very cheap units also availbe going as low as £30/$35 or so on the likes of ebay and amazon. So if you like the idea of not having to rip your existing head unit out...please do some googling before wasting money. Don't get me wrong it has a nice UI and a smoother feeling screen, but that if it was like £150 or so maybe an option. Love the video on explaining and very well thought out but please please please never call a range rover a "truck" they don't have a bed.
What is the advantage of using dual Bluetooth? I have Bluetooth on my Toyota Yaris 2013 OEM stereo, but it tends to skip often with the BT on my iPhone 11. Less with my wife’s iPhone 13. Will the Minix take Bluetooth/Carplay audio and feed it through the aux line? Hoping that a newer BT chip that Minix likely has would rid me of the skips.
If connect the unit via AUX, your phone will connect to the unit for CarPlay, and the unit will route the audio to the car via AUX. The Minix has bluetooth 5.0 so it should work well with your phone, though if you want to eliminate bluetooth altogether you can connect via USB for CarPlay as well.
@@corpsevibes7176 Hi, it’s not the same as the item you mentioned. The dimensions are different (narrower bezels), doubled the RAM, different magnetic mount design, natively integrated with ambient light sensor, better built-in speaker, stronger Wi-Fi/BT antennas, etc. Please don’t judge simply because the appearance is similar (just like smartphones)… however we do appreciate your interests, thanks
Since the unit is standalone, you wouldn't be able to change tracks with the steering wheel buttons, but you would be able to adjust the volume with them if you connect it via AUX, Bluetooth, or FM.
It was just made available for pre-order! There's a 10% discount for pre-orders bringing it down to $225, and it looks like it will ship later this month
The total size increase from 8.9in to 10.3in is more than you might expect! 60 fps in CarPlay is nice to have, and will make it feel smooth like a smartphone. Android Auto does not run at 60fps yet, so if that's what you use it may not be relevant.

i am not using any of android carplay future so why not just installing a real samsung tablet to be able to listening facebook and youtube video by using your phone connextion
You don't want a battery powered tablet that isn't designed for the weather variables of the car. IE Extreme heat, extreme cold. That and it could catch on fire from the lithium ion batteries.
No it’s not, different dimensions, different specs (2x more RAM), different mount design, different speaker quality, natively integrated with ambient light sensor, etc, just so many differences
This is exactly what I need for our 1980's RV! I want to update the old stereo.
this is one of the reasons that we develop this product, thanks
@@hkminix3641Is there a model with a light sensor on it?
Finally, I found one for my 2018 Tacoma with Android less then 20 minutes. Thanks.
I love to see it done as a permanent mount!!
This looks like a really good option to be honest.
I give thump up to your videos before i even start to watch it because i know its going to be amazing 👏.
Thank you!
so wonderful beautiful video Nick i love it see so nice
60fps really makes a difference!
It does!
Only three factory screen pictures? Can i upload my pictures? And can i change to custom startup screen?
It is Carpodgo T3
I have one

I am wondering if you can change device boot logo?
I don't think that's an option at this time, but it boots very quickly into CarPlay or Android Auto.

I believe so, though I would have to test it again to confirm
Does this have a youtube app on it? And can you customize the homescreen display with like a car brand logo or something else?

I would like to see how this device
Performs in a hot weather like Arizona. Does it have heat protection like phones do?

The housing is designed to withstand 90C (194F) and the chipset is designed to handle up to 85C (185F)

Does the extended mount arm rotate at all?
Once it's locked in place with the lever on the base, it doesn't rotate.

How is the mic for this unit?
I need one!!!
you can! 😊
I see the moustache is coming on , very nice .
lol thank you
Where can i find a compatible reverse camera for it cause all the reverse call i bought doesn't fit in the reverse port
I think it would need a backup camera with a 2.5mm jack connection. I haven't tested that yet, but you can email MINIX support to confirm.
does the buttons on the steering wheel work on it ? like lowering the volume or increasing it
If you connect the unit via Bluetooth, AUX, or FM, the volume is controlled by your car so the steering wheel volume buttons will work!
60Hz does not mean it has 60fps, like you made it sound. It may run at 60fps though, idk. 60Hz displays are extremely common.
It runs at 60fps with apple CarPlay!
It does run at true 60fps, most devices are 30fps or even 15fps only.
You should've recorded this in 60fps and uploaded that way too just so we could really see if it's 60fps or not.
how different is this compared to a carpod go t3?
I feel like it’s just the same product

The unit it’s self is good but the wobbling arm would drive me MAD
I see what you mean! It's not as noticeable in person as in the footage fortunately. I also think the more permanent mount would be steadier.
How would you compare this to your other recent review, the Carpuride W103 Pro ?
I think the form factor is the biggest difference, so consider what size you want for your car if you are comparing them.
@@frenchineer both are similar sizes, is 60 hz of Minix worth extra over Carpuride ?

Will this work with a flagship Samsung phone or iPhone with iOS 17? most of them don't.
I tested it with an up to date S23 and an iPhone 14 on iOS 17.5.1, so it works with current phones!
