I was looking at importing a Honda S660 from Japan as they brilliant on fuel and it's something funky, but it has this tragic almost glued-on style screen with basically no infotainment so this looks like the perfect install for that car. Very informative, thank you!
I’ve been thinking of getting one of these, so good timing with this video. If sharing this between two people that drive the same car, can it be set up with AirPlay with more than one phone?
Hey Jon! I think it’s just a matter of picking which to connect much like normal Bluetooth car setups, but I haven’t tried it between two phones yet so will report back when I have.
I know for CarPlay, once you plug your phone in it’s individual to you since it’s your phone, me and my partner have both had our phones in my Eonon stereo in the car and always worked a treat
I don't have this exact unit but it's similar and the bluetooth option outputs the sound to the phone speaker. The phone can then be connected via bluetooth to the car radio in the standard way. The biggest advantage with this is that you can use your radio and steering wheel controls.
Are you able to set the volume levels for Siri, calls, navigation, etc. independently, much like you can do on the iPhone directly? For instance, on the phone, you can press the volume buttons during a call and that'll change the volume for calls only; do it while Siri's talking, and that'll change Siri's volume; and so on. I'm asking this because I bought a Carpuride YT09 which replaces the car stereo entirely, but lacks any way of setting volumes independently. It does have a general "sound out" volume slider (which isn't even that great, to be honest) but it has no "knowledge" of the various audio streams that CarPlay receives. As a consequence, I was able to increase the volume for navigation because e.g. Waze does have a navigation volume slider, but Siri and calls remain at a very low volume. Pressing the phone's side does nothing, and the volume slider in Control Centre is locked. Apparently, when CarPlay is engaged, the streams are sent out "without a volume" and it's up to the CarPlay receiver to handle them -- which the YT09 doesn't do. Do these separate add-on units work better in that regard?
Just get a bigger phone and quadlock it to the dash, wireless charge. usbc to 3.5mm and aux in to the car. Set phone up not to lock screen automatically and a few other tweaks.
This is a decent alternative to a headunit. The mounting system is not great at all, would not stick to my dash and stay. The bluetooth connection in my nissan is great.
Yeah I’ve ended up hard mounted with a bolt through the little glovebox door on the top of my dash. You can find similar model with a window suction mount but dash mounts look a bit smarter usually imo.
Can I use a wifi rear camera with it while being connected to carplay? Or do I have to establish a connection with the rear camera frist, every time I want to use it?
Thats an interesting device. I am concerned though, that when it heats up it will slow down. Is there a better performing device? I.e. where the lag of swiping is not noticable.

What do you mean by the auxiliary port? Like you’re using 3.5 aux to connect to your phone ? Or the usb c to car charger is named as the aux for this purpose?
You have aux to aux, aux port on the external device(this case carplay), and aux port on your car, you connect the 2 ports with the included cable 3.5 jack to 3.5 jack(or you can buy one), now you'll be able to hear all the audio from your device through your car's audio system, no BT nor Radio connection required with your car just old school cabling. The aux ports on some cars are hidden(glovebox), so if you can't find it, try to Google your way out. If I misunderstood your question, please accept my apologies.

@joymiller3140 If your car has a Radio then you should be fine, this carplay device comes with an option to send radio waves on a specific frequency of your own choice or predefined by the manufacturer, you just tune in on your car's Radio on the same frequency and you should hear the audio from the carplay, from your phone to be precise.
