@@xtreme6018 So boring everyone who disagrees with YOU is the solution? Are you hitler? Also burning to death contradicts the Qur'an and Sunnah. Buring people belongs solely to Allah alone not to the creation. Only Allah can punish with fire!
I can't risk my wudu for nailpolish. Girls please don't take risk and remove that nailpolish. Better be safe than sorry. Enjoy your nailpolish in your period days.
What a great expanation! I grew up believing that nail polish was a deal breaker and I made peace with it eventually. But I grew up in a Muslim majority country. My 7 year old daughter isn’t growing up in a Muslim majority country and she feels very strongly about nail polish. I am happy to hear that I won’t have to make her choose between praying and nail polish.
Personally I'd rather stay on the safe side...if praying with nail polish is risky and not completely known to be halal or haram then it's better to just avoid it. Imagine praying all your life with nail polish on then finding out on yaumul qiyamah that your prayers weren't valid. It's just nail polish, it's not necessary to life lmao. Just wait until your monthly visitor then you can paint your nails all you want.

If you do something without intention of it being wrong genuinely, and you come to that decision using reason, then you would not be held to account by that. Also it is a well known thing that doubt does not override certainty, ie, you shouldn’t assume something is haram if there is nothing to definitely imply it is
I am not muslim, but I find this video interesting and insightful about how the interpretations can be changed or rather how some scholars can interpret things literal, as said by Dr. Ally, and forget about the general picture.
There's a difference between missing evidence and taking things literally. If scholars missed some evidences supporting it, it's not because they took it too literally. In Islam we have to take the apparent meaning which is often the literal mwaning
Thank you! I had always wondered about that ruling and it was beautifully and logically explained. I am so thankful to hear that the extreme view is over nitpicking the concept as if the more strict you are the holier-than-thou you are. I mean no disrespect in that comment as I have asked non-Christian and non-Muslim friends about their increasing strictness in rules. This was the most clear spoken and logical explanation i have ever heard. To sound a bit silly this made my heart happy. Even my own religion has rules that when you question them meaning what is the origin of the rule you are basically told "Just because it is," which is not intellectually satisfying. This was wonderful and thank you both for this enlightening video.
Thank you for this video discussion. This really opens up a door to more women in my business as I am a mobile nail technician. I want to be able to reach all cultures with proper insight and knowledge on the subjects. Everyone's practices and tradition matter to me. This was incredibly helpful.

The problem I have with this topic is that you can’t find anywhere the mention of nails, Wudu is about skin, and they are all saying water should touch skin but nail are not skin guys. Also there are so many other situations when there is impermeability but wudu is still valid : like henna on the hair (not the coloring the compact matter), even prophet have something thick on his hair during 2 weeks on hajj, same for oil on the hair or long and full big beard, obviously water doesn’t touch the skin in these situations. Some of them are also saying filth under the nail is ok lol how is that logical ? oulémas focus only on woman nails, even it’s not skin at all it’s a dead part, I never understood this inconsistency if someone has real sources from Coran or Hadith which are clear about this specific area I’m curious to see. Islam is supposed to be easy, nail polish is not just for beauty a lot of people have a very fragile and broken nails, it’s not easy to manipulate things everyday with those you hurt yourself a lot and there are products for nails that give strength to nails like this but because guys in Saudi said no haram we have to be silent and suffer, I never liked this kind of fatwa, no effort at all. So thank you to this imam to be so clear and understanding
i THINK i get his point-- people say you cant wear nail polish because its not water permeable, but now that there are such water permeable formulas nail polishes people say wearing nail polish is over accesorizing one's self. so here is the question to those people ; then why is henna allowed? henna is also colouring the nails.
Salam. The comparison of henna and nail polish just isnt right even when both "colour" your nail because of their state. It is sunnah for women to wear henna. Henna is a colour stain. You apply henna, after it dried, wash it away & you're left with the colour stain. Nail polish isnt stain, it doesnt dissapear when wash with water. Instead the layer that you apply, dries and stick to your nail. To remove, you need a remover or peel it off.
Wow to those who bashed this sister for her question/ comment... what she saying is IF nail polish is seen as over accessorizing then why is henna not seen as over accessorizing beings that it generally serves the same purpose. It’s already very clear that one is a stain and the other needs a remover. I understand your point
Thank you for educating me about this. I am a Non-Muslim with an interest in nail polish and I teach English to students who are Muslim. I wondered if my use of nail polish was in any way offensive to them. I was looking for a deeper answer to the no nail polish rule and this provided me with that and more to ponder. Thank you.
That's so thoughtfull of you. I'm a muslim woman i love to put nail polish on, I put it on when Im on my menstruation. However when I see a woman with nail polish I actually love it so don't worry i don't think no muslim woman would be offended by you wearing it.
The first 1 month or so after reverting, I had nail polish and carried on with my prayers as usual. I was shocked when I heard about this one. I cooked and ate with bare hands with my washed hands, was I dirty too? Also, how is wiping over socks okay but washing hands with nail polish on not okay (permeable or not). Isn't this inconsistent? Further, the henna nail stain and oil also coats your nail such that water will also not reach the nail on a microscopic level. We need to think more holistically and logically while issuing fatwas
Instinct always told me that it's the symbolic ritual of making ablution that is important. At the end of it all it's only Allah who can judge us ad in this Dunya I will make my own reasonable decisions based on sound explanations from scholars and know that Allah leads me on the path. Unless you are a scholar you have no right to give fatwa and I see a lot of those in the comments who speak or parrot what they have heard in their lives without giving credit to the scholar who is on this video. I will go with this scholar as it is the same as my instincts. Don't be nit picky. I'm a convert and don't have the culture piece to mislead me so I will go with what I learn and I like what this scholar has to say. All I have to say is I am minding my own business and I would appreciate those who don't mind mine as it's not yours to mind. Thank you for your cooperation. 😊
I can't risk my wudu for nailpolish. Girls please don't take risk and remove that nailpolish. Better be safe than sorry. Enjoy your nailpolish in your period days.
@@Azura-adamson Thank you for your comment and your warning but I think the point is that there are some who leave Islam or do not want to enter Islam for something as nail polish. I would rather see those people follow all other important parts (5 pillars) than to worry about if they should take off their nail polish. No one on this earth is free of sins so don't judge others because they sin differently than you. It's up to Allah to judge and if nail polish is really an issue I'm sure Allah will guide them to that decision in due time. First, you have to keep the Muslims from leaving or invite non-Muslims into Islam before you scare them away. In addition, nail polish is not specifically spoken about in the Qur'an nor the Hadith and we have received the guidance from scholars, which tells me that one scholar may interpret it differently than another as demonstrated in this video. Everyone is entitled to make their own decisions and inferring that wearing nail polish will invalidate wudu is your human opinion. Who knows, at the end we may have been violating the Qur'an by being extreme in religion if we continue to be so. This I don't want to do, as this fact is in the Qur'an. I will pray always for all of my Sisters and Brothers of Islam and may Allah guide us all, Ameen. 🙏
This makes soo much sense. I never understood why it was such a big deal with nail polish because I, myself, have grown up wearing it without anyone telling me my prayers would be invalid.
Faryal Wasti well you have to understand that nailpolish creates a barrier on your nails, which means water won’t reach them. And if water doesn’t reach, then your wudhu is incomplete, which means your prayer won’t be accepted. So it’s not that it makes your prayer invalid, but your WUDHU
Ife Sanusi it’s allowed if you do wudhu then apply nail polish then pray. But there’s 5 prayers in a day, so then you’d have to remove it each time you have to do wudhu
This is such a great discussion that makes so much sense to me, but having grown up all my life with my mother and friends telling me that oh your prayer isn't valid if you wear nail polish (even though it makes sense in my head that it's halal), it's really hard to go against that...
I think the reason why the prayer is "not valued" Allah knows best, is because nail polish is not hygienic; i work in the hospital and we are not allowed to wear nail polish because the bacteria underneath the nail cant cleaned off.. if you dont believe me; there is a test which we do sometimes in the hospital to check if we scrubed the hands right.. after the scrubbing we need to put our hands in a redlight box which shows the bacteria and if u have nail polish on it showed that the nails are still with bacterias no matter how much you wash or scrub the hands... Salaams
Please only practice what you feel comfortable. Nail polish will still be around after prayer time. Never jeopardize your beliefs in the name of fashion.
What if you’re in the state of wudu before you painted your nails ? Would it be the same rulling as if you were in the state of wudu before putting socks on ?
Protect your salah sisters as it is very precious asset!!! Allah blessed us with common sense and wisdom. When my daughter bought me this nail polish, I was sooo excited. But before using it, I thought it would be prudent to do my own research. I listened this video and read the comments as well. I decided to do my own experiment. Result: Fail I used Orly breathable nail polish. Please before using it do your own research. Do not fall in the trap of shaytaan.
I can't risk my wudu for nailpolish. Girls please don't take risk and remove that nailpolish. Better be safe than sorry. Enjoy your nailpolish in your period days.
Tuesday in love and nailberry are te only ones that are water perma. The other ones are only breatheble, that means oxygn, not water. There is a big difference. Orly, flormar, essie and all the other brands aren't like tuesday and nailberry. Tested and didn't fail
Normal nail polish is not permissible because it does not allow water through to nails. Water permeable nail is permissible because it allows water to pass through to the nails
because it needs a board of ulama or some scholar to decide if something is halal or haram if it doesn't mention explicit/implicitly in quran/hadist. so it is no one man decision, what he gave is another perspective about it, an I say it does make sense. but then again everything is back to each is their own, if you hesitate, than keep it in the safe side, but if you are sure there is nothing wrong with it then go ahead.
I have a question and I really hope I’m asking in the most sensitive way possible. Forgive me In advance if I offend anyone, as Iam not a practicing Muslim but I accept all walks of life. So my question is, how are ones prayers valid vs someone who has worn nail polish not valid, I don’t think god/allah would mind as long as the person has a clean soul and they’re intent is to only love and not harm anyone and as long as thebprayers are coming from the heart, should nail paint be an issue? I enjoyed this video thank you. 👍👌
I think it is more about the fact that anyone can say what they want, they can deem things permissible or non permissible but only Allah knows the truth. Water is supposed to reach our nails; that much is known. But there has never been anything outlined directly in any scripture to speak about nail polish. So for some it’s better to be cautious than take a risk, and find out on the day of judgment that your prayers have been exempt because your ablution wasn’t done correctly - because of something as silly as nail polish. It’s a really big thing for me because I am currently wearing nail polish as I type, I am Muslim and I completely get both sides. It’s a decision we sisters have to make on our own, because when we stand in front of Him, we will be on our own. May Allah swt make it easy on us to stay on the right path and do things that please Him.
In a Hadith Sahih Muslim the Prophet ﷺ told a man to redo his wudu because he missed a small part of his body. But wiping over the socks is permissible and yet you do miss some part of your body therefore why does it matter that the water penetrates the nail or not ?
I wish that Islamic scholars as well as people go back and rethink 99% of the old interpretaions. Sadly people tend to protect and work by the interpretations more than the original texts. I have been working on so many issues related to women's adornment in Islam for my Phd theses and I was horrified when I discovered that 99% of the rules we grew up with are all interpretations that really conflicted with/or exagerated the origional text. Islam is a releagion for all ages, so please be more felxable and leave some room for interpretation so the later generation will never give up on Islam. Thanks for the video, and sorry for my horrible spelling I am not an English speaker !
This is Sooo True... There are Sooo Many other struggles that prevent us from holding on to the rope of Allah... Nail polish shouldn't be a reason why a prayer was missed or not on time
Hi! I have only just started learning about Islam. I grew up very westernised and I have a lot to learn. What kind of rules regarding female adornment conflict or have been exaggerated? I don't want to be mislead, can you suggest any where that will help me learn how to conduct myself, female ardonment or other issues regarding Muslim women? Thanks!
Faiz_Faiz That website says Muslim women are to be housewives and do household chores. Sorry, but people will leave Islam instead of being guided with that site.
Surely nail polish can be used in the same example as socks? Can't you just wipe water over the nail bed? The nail bed wouldn't be dirty because of the nail polish. The nail polish would be acting as the same function as socks? Wtf
The idea of socks wiping was introduced by the Sunnah of the prophet.. But where does it say that for nail polish?? It doesn't right? Hope it answered Ur question lol
@RAIMA CHOWDHURY they don't have similar purpose. Wearing socks is narrated because the prophet did it. Theres no narrations to say that the women or wives of the prophet wore nail polish and did wudu over it. This was only done with henna. You know because we live in such different times then the Prophet (saw) we have to turn to scholars to get a ruling. The Female Companions of the Prophet (saw) never wore nail polish so they never had this problem. So we turn to scholars to tell us the ruling. The ruling is that we can wear nail polish no problem in that but the problem is the water needs to hit the nail. Nail polish is like paint. To get to the wall you must take off the paint. Same with nail polish to get to the nail you must take off the nail polish. Doing wudu isn't about outward cleanliness, it is about the spiritual cleanliness. Even with wiping over the socks, there are many rules and regulations that come with it. We can't just simply wipe, there's a whole list of rulings that come with it. So it can't be compared to nail polish Moreover, Nail polish is an ornament. Therefore, like all other ornaments, it cannot be worn in public in the presence of the opposite gender (men). A woman can only have it in front of her husband, children, and all other women or men who are her mahrams (those she can never marry, like her father, uncle, etc.). If a woman really wants to put nail polish and go out, then she should cover her hands with gloves. This is very different to wiping over the socks, women shouldnt even be wearing it out, let alone doing mas'ah over it Just to be safe, wear henna :)
Thank you very much for this. I was wondering about this recently, especially as I get dermatitis from touching water too often so making wudu with water gives me constant spreading rashes which even steroids cannot fix. I switched do doing tyammum and Alhumdulillah my steroid medications were able to fix the problem and I do not suffer so severely from the dermatitis.
One of the conditions of tahaarah (purification) being valid is that the water must touch the skin. If there is any barrier such as grease, paint, wax or glue that prevents water reaching the skin, then the tahaarah is not valid and prayers offered in that case are not valid. _ The evidence for that is the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to Abu Dharr (may Allaah be pleased with him): “If you find water, then let it touch your skin, for that is good.” Narrated by Abu Dawood (332); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood. _ Imam al-Shaafa’i (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: If there is on him any mastic or anything thick that will prevent the water from reaching the skin, his washing of that part for wudoo’ is not valid, unless he removes it or removes enough so that he knows that there is no barrier to the water touching the skin. End quote. Al-Umm (1/44).
Honestly I don't know if anybody else even does this but I just wear nail polish when I am on my period no need to pray then.. or if there is a specific reason I just put it on and remove it before wudu ... didn't really think about it all that much
I feel like it would be better to avoid nail polish wheather it is halal or haram....If u want colour for ur nail just use henna that is more better and its also a sunnah....
Henna dyes the nail and therefore it is permissable unlike nail polish or nail extensions ( fake nails) it causes a barrier on you own nail. Hope it helps to understand what he was saying
Assalamualaikum.. This is a very interesting topic and I have a curiosity. I know this comes back to individuals but it was mentioned in this video that we are allowed to just wipe our feet or like we all know we are allowed to do dry wudhu. So my question is... if we do just wipe or if we do dry wudhu then that means there is no water going thru our skins hence nothing is going thru our nails. Or if we wash our hands and only wipe our feet because we have socks on... how can our toe nails be washed and how can water go thru it? Is it a proper wudhu or not if it's like that ? That's my question and for the halal nailpolish, I think it comes abck to us individually whether we want to believe it as halal or not. Allah is ghofurur rohim :) Wassalamualaikum Please respond... thank you :)
Hana I just read this and its a good point. I beleive that if you dont have a proper facilty to do wudu -- eg if u were in s public place or work then dampen over socks so at least some water penetrates. and same goes for dry abalution wudu. my understanding of this is that only if u dont have water eg your in a desert as a last resort u can do a dry wudu -- and i believe if water is available then u must use water as the dry and the dampening of socks is a last resort option. I hope u get what im saying
I think (please don't quote me) it is only in extreme circumstances if water isn't available (tayamum) and in Relation to over shoes or socks I think it defies wudhuu and would probably be easier to just take off your socks and shoes than have gross wet/ damp shoes or socks 😕. I do believe that whuduu has both spiritual and physical cleansing purposes as water has calming properties and is often used for meditative rituals all across the world. Now In saying that I would never dare judge anyone on how they prefer to do heir whuddu because I do believe intention is key!!Just my opinion ❤️
1 agree with you totally.waiting for a reply as well .when we finish whudu we wipe our hands feet and the still wet so water has not penetrated the skin.can all you learned men research pls.
I feel as though he says it's ok. Mainly because as he said back in the day of our Prophet pbuh only henna was available these things were not. As times are changing newer things are being inventrd to make life easier and we were told to make ourselves better and not be stuck in the olden days. I personally will use the nail polish from now on. To each their own and you should all do as you feel is right in your heart. To me this is good enough along with all the tests i did personally. If to you it isnt good enough then dont do it but dont put ur own opinion onto others either. Allah swt knows best.
It is not right to put nail polish then make wudu. Nail polish would make the wudu invalid and so is the prayer. It is impermeable to water so the water cant touch the nails which we must make sure it touches... evidence below One of the conditions of tahaarah (purification) being valid is that the water must touch the skin. I didnt get anything from this sorry, whether to use it or not. Some one explain please?. I heard SNS is water permeable as well. So is that ok to wear as well?
With regard to the verse, it says (interpretation of the meaning): "O you who believe! When you intend to offer As-Salaah (the prayer), wash your faces and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows, rub (by passing wet hands over) your heads, and (wash) your feet up to the ankles" [al-Maa'idah 5:6]
in islamic law regarding wudu (wash) its been said if theres a barrier between the skin/nail etc which prevents water touching it, the wash/wudu will be incomplete. it even mentions if u weae very tight jewellary such as rings on fingers which u believe theres a possibilty water might not access that area, u should take the ring off or move it in order to let the water through the skin. so normal nail polish is a barrier. another factor is wudu itself is not logic. so even if we fart why do we hv to wash our hands and face? the scholar here argues about logic. wudu defies logic so the arguement is weak.
That's bcs jewelry arwn't always clean with water. But like he said, oil, kohl etc should me forbidden also if it was like that. I do not use nailpolish but he is right
Seeing the comments here I am really surprised a lot of women not knowing about nail polish rule. Im born to even a convert mum, but from Day 1 Knew about the nail polish rule...?!? Just like ghusl after period etc etc. But a bigger point i think Mufti Menk said.. is why wear nail polish in first place. Natural colour, like natural face no make up is best, is the most beauty in Allahs eyes because we dont display beauty... of course at times I wear make up when maybe not allowed. Ie infront of non mahram etc, but in the bigger picture make up, nail.polish is displaying beauty. Also the dubious ness of the permeability makes it too much hassle. Its nice the scholar does discuss reasons etc.. but personally overall i dont know that someone wouldnt revert just because of naol polish rule.
You can wear it after making wudu, or if you are on wudu and wear it. But making wudu after doing your nails makes that wudu invalid and so is the prayer. Evidence below x One of the conditions of tahaarah (purification) being valid is that the water must touch the skin. Al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar said: There are mutawaatir reports from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) which describe his wudoo' and state that he washed his feet. He is the one who explained the commands of Allaah. There is no report from anyone among the Sahaabah which differs from that
Is Allah really going to disregard sincerity in prayer, and connection to Allah’s self because of nail polish? Infact if you do wuddu, then put nail polish on, it effectively “seals” in the wuddu does it not?
My profession is a nail technician as part of my job for advertising I wear polish or nails I am a Muslim woman I do pray so does that mean since I have the nails on or polish my Salah was invalid?
Well if you didn't know originally, it was valid. That said, i think the ruling on nail polish is a strange inference and not a conclusive ruling in the Sunna. It shouldn't hurt to wear it during wudu in my opinion.
Alcohol is haram to consume as in drink or eat. there's also Alcohol in perfume and cleaning products. its not prohibited if you are not consuming the alcohol, there are different forms of alcohol, just stay far away from consumable alcohol.
Because in the lab, a nail had to be shortened. But no one said, "Oh, you haven't washed your hand because you have nail polish, and therefore, it has bacteria." So, to me as a microbiologist, "wash" means rinsing clean.
hello could you do a transelsion of this vidéo in french and arabic because lots of women are interesseted in this subject but do not speak english thank you !
If you see the bottom of the player you get a button "CC" and setting. There is a possibility you can have a subtitle in French or Arabic by choosing the language. all the best.
I would like an answer to my question please.dr.shabir you said who started saying nail polish invalidates your whudu.i made an experiment I put water on a normal nail and for about 20 seconds it still didn't penetrate.i bought the 786 nail polish with instructions plus a halaal certificate to say no haram products were used in the making of that particular brand.its made by Muslim girls in America and half the refits go to charity. I can send you a copy of the certificate.
As a Muslim woman in 2024, I find his perspective, very interesting and progressive. He is very pragmatic. However, I would not take a risk even one percent that my salah wouldn’t be accepted because of a nail polish even though I love the look of nail polish. Every time I get tempted, I ask myself is it worth it to risk my relationship with Allah one percent is it worth it?
6:151 (Al-Anam) Say, “Come, let me tell you what your Lord has forbidden you: that you associate nothing with Him; that you honor your parents; that you do not kill your children because of poverty-We provide for you and for them; that you do not approach indecencies, whether outward or inward; and that you do not kill the soul which God has sanctified, except in the pursuit of justice. All this He has enjoined upon you, so that you may understand.”
Im sorry sister but as far as i know beautifying yourself in public ie: wearing make-up or nail polish is not permissible as it attracts the men. Unless ur wearing for your husband in the home. But putting nail polish is a no no if going out or praying, better to b safe then sorry.
SUBHAN ALLAAH, if I had to choose between wearing nail polish and my wudu not be excepted, OR, not wearing nail polish in order for my wudu to be excepted, (so I may have a better chance of getting my salaat excepted, Insha Allaah)...I guess I'll just have to be deemed "NITPICKY"!!! The only reason we exist is to worship Allaah Azza wa Jall, so everyone make the sacrifice of this life because it's just an illusion. May Allaah save us all and forgive us all for our shortcomings. Ameen.
+UmmabdallaAH Hasimo Wa feekum Baarak Allaah. Alhamudu lillaah my dear Sister in Islam. Maa sha Allaah, you are correct as well, Alhamdu lillaah. Insha Allaah, Believer's will understand the importance of making the sacrifice in this "moment" we call life, to get the BIGGER PRIZE, Insha Allaah, in the next life, that NEVER ENDS, which is PARADISE. May Allaah Azza wa Jall make it easy on us all to hear and obey. Ameen.
I insist my wife gets regular manicures and pedicures and even nail art . I find it very attractive quite frankly however my wife would complain other women give her looks during salah. I could only rationalize it using the same fiqh as leather socks. It never made sense to me that if you make wudu get ur nails done and when you re-do your wudu it should still be valid. As wiping over leather socks would. Further more the underside of the nails are exposed to water . So is it necessary to use nail polish no but I prefer my wives to always have their nails done and personal care done regularly. Just my 2 cents
Have always been on the side of avoiding nail polish and actually its not been hard coz I grewup being told its haram tho what the sheikh said is very logical and made me question what I have been believing all this time its still better to be on the safe side everyday something new comes up and if we let ourselves as muslims to follow these treads its not helpful to us in anyway. At this point there is another thing of adding extra nail layer to our nail tho it just started out as nail polish only now I guess nobody can literally do nails with out adding another nail layer coz guess what it looks nice. Its really not worthit at the end of the day
I can't risk my wudu for nailpolish. Girls please don't take risk and remove that nailpolish. Better be safe than sorry. Enjoy your nailpolish in your period days.
It’s halal . Just like many other things . Except the fact it interferes in wazoo. So it’s completely ok to wear a nail paint . but we should remove it during wazoo . Rest we can wear it during haiz and nifaz . Moreover Allah (swt) is the most merciful he forgives the absence of knowledge.

Muslim (242) narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) saw a man who had not washed his heels and he said, "Woe to the heels from the Fire." Ibn Khuzaymah said: If wiping were sufficient to discharge the obligation, there would have been no warning of the Fire in this case.
Henna is dye and coloring skin and Khuhrl is powder, cannot be compared with nail polish which is layer. Logic for not allowing nail polish on nail is very clear. Alhamdulla I grow up knowing nail polish not allowed for prayer , so never care about. People show follow what majority of imam says. Most of scholar says not allowed. Prayer is basic of Islam and connection between you and allaha . Please do your best to do it in correct way Unfortunately I saw many Muslim women pray with in appropriate clothes . You going to meet allah in this prayer , you have to be covered with wide clothe and cover your hair properly , u cannot pray in pants . May allaha guid us to correct path
I'm not too sure if it's haram or sunnah, but the reason why they say it's not allowed to have long nails is that seytan can hide underneath them due to bacteria infesting and collecting underneath your nails.
Tammie Afrin check sheikh aseem Al Hakeem videos about nails so you know what is the prescribe nails and wether polish is permissible or not because he answered the question more brief and direct :) hope it helps
Ejderha Draws I have never heard that haha. What I’ve heard is that it’s more difficult for water to reach the fingers if your nails are too long during wudhu, therefore your wudhu being incomplete
Its so weird how Muslims are so paranoid and completely OCD about such issues, its almost autistic. Great to hear level headed and rational responses to these things by Dr Shabir. What do people think that Islam even is?
As'salam alikom ,, It is an interesting topic indeed and i thank you for shining the light on it. I have a couple of comments on the subject and the sheikhs points: 1- on the note that we have to worry about other peoples thoughts on the islamic rules and laws : - if we were worried that a law or rule would stop ppl from becoming muslims then we would have to allow alcohol, adultery, ... Etc. - we shouldn't compromise at the expense of the acceptance of our prayers. 2- when comparing "henna" to nail polish we have to understand the difference that makes "henna" ok in the eyes of scholars and not nail polish. - nail polish is a plastic material that prevents the flow of water to the surface which its used on . henna, on the other hand, allows water to reach to the skin. Thank you 😁
Turki Al-Turki w'salam,, he mentioned other examples, i.e. oil based perfume which was the only type of perfume available at the Rasool SAW time. Muhammad SAW approved of perfume even though these do not allow water to penetrate thoroughly or at all. Also, there if no specific prohibition on nail polish as there is on adultery and alcohol. Everything is halal till proven haram, unfortunately in todays society, everything is haram till proven halal.
My whole thing is water does not touch the nail bed of your feet if you we’re wearing socks. wiping over the sock is not going to do that, unless you wet the whole sock under running water and you’re not gonna walk around with wet socks in your shoes.
Yes I agree with you totally... And one more think about halal nail polish I think it's BUSINESS they must selling Muslims woman's nail polish and they figure it how will they do that... Everything is about money and prestige...
I enjoy the intellectual breakdown of the ruling from an fiqh perspective. But with all due respect. The argument about nitpicking and rejecting Islam or Salah because of nail polish is silly. We have the narration of a non-muslim asking Salman al-Farisi about the Prophet ﷺ giving rulings about how to answer the call of nature. Salman was proud of this and did not call it nitpicking. And with new knowledge comes new responsibilities. If somebody want to reject God because of the worldly life, their heart is corrupt anyway. Not saying that we should not facilitate and make the religion easy for people when possible. Just saying that these types of arguments are nonsense.
The evidence that it is obligatory to wash the feet is the report narrated by al-Bukhaari (163) and Muslim (241) from 'Abd-Allaah ibn 'Amr (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stayed behind us on a journey and then caught up with us, and we were late in praying 'Asr. We started doing wudoo' and wiping out feet, and he called out at the top of his voice: "Woe to the heels from the fire" two or three times.

Lol it’s not like they had nail polish back then. You’ll find that a lot of the rules in Islam relating to this current era are scholars interpreting what the Prophet SAW said in order to apply rules that relate to new inventions.
It's a shame people who want to be on the safe side to strengthen there relationship with God are now regarded as 'nit pickers'. May Allah protect us and guide us.
Why take the risk.....gettung up for fajr is really hard ...but we do it because its fard. Why do sumthing which might nulify u r salaah.....if u dont care wat bout wat is right or wrong...then u can do anything u want....fir the sisters who actually care bout thier salaah my advice...dont use it...simple
This is absurd, even if a nail polish INDEED EXISTED which is waterpermeable, to fulfill all rules to do wudhu properly, think of the aspect what you effect by wearing nail polish or other make up - it's a kind of seduction for men AND should never be shown besides of to your own husband.
excellent channel! I am considering converting to Islam and these videos have been INVALUABLE to me understanding Islam. thank you!

Wow! This brother understands the bigger picture of our religion. May Allah bless him and his family.
Reasonable answer, just as Islam is.
May God guide us all.
I love when a brother/sister clears up the confusion.
I really like the way he approaches religious subjects.
May Allah grant you jannah and a long, healthy life. Ameen.

Yessss seriously !!

I can't risk my wudu for nailpolish. Girls please don't take risk and remove that nailpolish. Better be safe than sorry. Enjoy your nailpolish in your period days.
Such a stupid question..!! Henna is just a colour stain..
*****
FoodnFangirling henna stains the hand it's like getting a bit of ketchup for an example on ur clothes vs getting ur clothes ripped (example)
Thank you.
Tamara Grobschmidt aaww you're sweet

@@HauteModesty , I'm not judging I'm requesting to be on safe side when matters are directly related to Prayer (one of the five pillars)
This makes soo much sense. I never understood why it was such a big deal with nail polish because I, myself, have grown up wearing it without anyone telling me my prayers would be invalid.
Allah subhana wa ta'Allah said in Surah Saad 26: " ...and follow not your desire for it will mislead you from the Path of Allah!"
So do you thinks it's allowed or not
Ife Sanusi it’s allowed if you do wudhu then apply nail polish then pray. But there’s 5 prayers in a day, so then you’d have to remove it each time you have to do wudhu
To secure your wudu is a big deal in order to protect your salah. Any paint would be a barrier regardless of permeable or not.
Thank you so much for this informative and logical perspective. These kind of open-minded views show how beautiful our faith is.
How is the surface of the nail considered skin?
Dr. Shabir Ally makes a lot of sense! Forgive since I'm not a Muslim or a religious person, my interests are very broad :)
When i see u i feel relief sabbir...ur wife is vry lucky
This is such a great discussion that makes so much sense to me, but having grown up all my life with my mother and friends telling me that oh your prayer isn't valid if you wear nail polish (even though it makes sense in my head that it's halal), it's really hard to go against that...
may Allah guide us to what's right! :)
Joan Colley :)
+Selly Me what if you sterilize your hands then apply it?
What if you’re in the state of wudu before you painted your nails ? Would it be the same rulling as if you were in the state of wudu before putting socks on ?
Protect your salah sisters as it is very precious asset!!! Allah blessed us with common sense and wisdom. When my daughter bought me this nail polish, I was sooo excited. But before using it, I thought it would be prudent to do my own research. I listened this video and read the comments as well. I decided to do my own experiment.

Sareena
Right?!! Take a deep breath brother and just talk. 😒
because during the day lots of diet is gathered on your nails so you must wash everything including nails
Amazingly insightful discussion. So many of my question were answered. Thank you.
Thanks!

can u share some of ur research please..Thank u
This discussion seemed very inconclusive. I still have not been able to understand the answer to the question is permeable nail polish halal or not
Faiza Parveen i thought i was the only one omg so confused
Surely nail polish can be used in the same example as socks? Can't you just wipe water over the nail bed? The nail bed wouldn't be dirty because of the nail polish. The nail polish would be acting as the same function as socks? Wtf
That was the point being made.
So it can't be compared to nail polish
Moreover, Nail polish is an ornament.
This is very different to wiping over the socks, women shouldnt even be wearing it out, let alone doing mas'ah over it
Just to be safe, wear henna :)
@@moonera6130 they never wore nail polish because it didn't exist. Lol
Good thinking
_
The evidence for that is the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to Abu Dharr (may Allaah be pleased with him): “If you find water, then let it touch your skin, for that is good.” Narrated by Abu Dawood (332); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

Imam al-Shaafa’i (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
If there is on him any mastic or anything thick that will prevent the water from reaching the skin, his washing of that part for wudoo’ is not valid, unless he removes it or removes enough so that he knows that there is no barrier to the water touching the skin. End quote.
Al-Umm (1/44).
Honestly I don't know if anybody else even does this but I just wear nail polish when I am on my period no need to pray then.. or if there is a specific reason I just put it on and remove it before wudu ... didn't really think about it all that much
According to allahs words. He never said you are exempt from salah on your period
Another awesome video♥️♥️
I feel like it would be better to avoid nail polish wheather it is halal or haram....If u want colour for ur nail just use henna that is more better and its also a sunnah....
except henna doesnt have a nice colour to it
Henna became Sunnah before because it was the only polish available that time :D
I prefer nail polish because you can have more colours
Alhamdulillah!! Excellent point. It makes perfect sense to use the halal alternative.
Allah is ghofurur rohim :)
Wassalamualaikum
Please respond... thank you :)
This is done over the socks, masaa', when wudhu has already been performed and then it needs to be renewed.
1 agree with you totally.waiting for a reply as well .when we finish whudu we wipe our hands feet and the still wet so water has not penetrated the skin.can all you learned men research pls.
I'm confused is it or isn't it haram??
fifa sammy sammy I think he's saying it's debatable and he's leaning to it's okay to wear it and make wudhu
It’s not haram
It is impermeable to water so the water cant touch the nails which we must make sure it touches... evidence below

With regard to the verse, it says (interpretation of the meaning):
"O you who believe! When you intend to offer As-Salaah (the prayer), wash your faces and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows, rub (by passing wet hands over) your heads, and (wash) your feet up to the ankles"
[al-Maa'idah 5:6]
in islamic law regarding wudu (wash) its been said if theres a barrier between the skin/nail etc which prevents water touching it, the wash/wudu will be incomplete. it even mentions if u weae very tight jewellary such as rings on fingers which u believe theres a possibilty water might not access that area, u should take the ring off or move it in order to let the water through the skin. so normal nail polish is a barrier.
another factor is wudu itself is not logic. so even if we fart why do we hv to wash our hands and face? the scholar here argues about logic. wudu defies logic so the arguement is weak.
Maisha Karim He did mention that the private parts are not part of the ablution which was a bit strange
Uzma Khan well no they’re not, that would be part of ghusl haha
Maisha Karim
Ma Shaa Allah!🙏
That's bcs jewelry arwn't always clean with water. But like he said, oil, kohl etc should me forbidden also if it was like that. I do not use nailpolish but he is right
so wats the verdict here is it ok to wera nail polish n pray
I really appreciated this video.
Waiting in anticipation for a reply.thank you.jazzakallakairun
Perfect explanation.
what about fake
nails ?
So can or can't we wear and pray?
You can wear it after making wudu, or if you are on wudu and wear it. But making wudu after doing your nails makes that wudu invalid and so is the prayer.
Evidence below x
One of the conditions of tahaarah (purification) being valid is that the water must touch the skin. If there is any barrier such as grease, paint, wax or glue that prevents water reaching the skin, then the tahaarah is not valid and prayers offered in that case are not valid.
_
Imam al-Shaafa’i (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
If there is on him any mastic or anything thick that will prevent the water from reaching the skin, his washing of that part for wudoo’ is not valid, unless he removes it or removes enough so that he knows that there is no barrier to the water touching the skin. End quote.
Al-Umm (1/44).
So, can we Muslims wear water permeable nail polish ? The video is too long . Can someone please tell me .
Yeah, or any nail polish, really.
(I watched the entire video)
Hurmmmm ok i dont know weather to trust you or not
You shouldn't ;)
But he had said that it wasn't actually clear whether nail polish is anti ablution. It's just one opinion.
I bought this nail polish and I wont use it because I test it and its not working.Dont buy it waste of 13 £ and I bought two:/
+Nur Fara Farzana u should watch it
Al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar said:
There are mutawaatir reports from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) which describe his wudoo' and state that he washed his feet.
No it doesnt
koi urdu me bataega inhone kya kaha use kar sakhte hai ke nahi?
What about hair colour .every women apply hair colour and also they have monthly issue how can can be clean .don't know what is true what is false
Wow, this makes so much sense.
Nail Polishes have alcohol in them so is it still okay to wear them and perform salah?
Thanks for the vid. Great insight.
I can send you a copy of the certificate.
he is confusing me. should i or should i not put NP
Great Explanation! Thankyou
6:151 (Al-Anam)
Say, “Come, let me tell you what your Lord has forbidden you: that you associate nothing with Him; that you honor your parents; that you do not kill your children because of poverty-We provide for you and for them; that you do not approach indecencies, whether outward or inward; and that you do not kill the soul which God has sanctified, except in the pursuit of justice.
Ameen.
I agree with you ukhti, baarkAllahu feeki. In Islam the prophet said the one who leaves the unclear matter has protected his religion and his honour
Ameen.
Nafeesah Habeeb ameen
At 3:40 I can agree with what they are saying.. and this make sense to.
I have seen so many different answers and not giving any conclusion
Finally.
Jazak Allah Khayran.
Wait... So putting nail polish haram or halal?
Ruksana Laskar
Exactly...😒
It’s halal . Just like many other things . Except the fact it interferes in wazoo. So it’s completely ok to wear a nail paint . but we should remove it during wazoo . Rest we can wear it during haiz and nifaz . Moreover Allah (swt) is the most merciful he forgives the absence of knowledge.
So yes Polish or no Polish?
Is it halal or not?
Nail polish will make the wudu invalid and so the prayer as its impermeable to water which the nails needs to touch... evidence below

Thank u so much for this information
Muslim (242) narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) saw a man who had not washed his heels and he said, "Woe to the heels from the Fire."
Ibn Khuzaymah said: If wiping were sufficient to discharge the obligation, there would have been no warning of the Fire in this case.
Thanks for sharing
Thaaaaank you!
do not follow, water has to run through its just how it is even if its so simple
Please do your best to do it in correct way
Unfortunately I saw many Muslim women pray with in appropriate clothes . You going to meet allah in this prayer , you have to be covered with wide clothe and cover your hair properly , u cannot pray in pants .
May allaha guid us to correct path
thanks for this.
having big nails haram?
before 40 days, you have to cut it.
Does that mean that they can be growed by 40 days and then be cut?
As'salam alikom ,,
It is an interesting topic indeed and i thank you for shining the light on it.
I have a couple of comments on the subject and the sheikhs points:
1- on the note that we have to worry about other peoples thoughts on the islamic rules and laws :
- if we were worried that a law or rule would stop ppl from becoming muslims then we would have to allow alcohol, adultery, ...
Nails aren't skin. 🤦🏾♀️
Everything is about money and prestige...
why do u want to wear nail polish?
8:25 by this logic we can make wudu over materials
Ha no need to wait for monthly visitor.....just paint it......and during odhu....use nail polish remover to nails.....it can b a habit then by
I enjoy the intellectual breakdown of the ruling from an fiqh perspective.
Perfect Answer!
So his logic is okay but it is not supported by the practise of rasul (s.a.w) and the companions
Aoa. Please checkout the following channel. This channel refutes the false accusations against Islam specially made by david wood. It would be really supportive if you subscribe. Thanks!
/channel/UC2IEne66w-N9UWLH9Kb6DJQ
Lol it’s not like they had nail polish back then. You’ll find that a lot of the rules in Islam relating to this current era are scholars interpreting what the Prophet SAW said in order to apply rules that relate to new inventions.
i don't now
It's a shame people who want to be on the safe side to strengthen there relationship with God are now regarded as 'nit pickers'. May Allah protect us and guide us.
@A H intention is important but we go by quran and sunna based upon the understanding of the righteous predecessors
thank you people make up dam rules thank you sooo much
Why take the risk.....gettung up for fajr is really hard ...but we do it because its fard. Why do sumthing which might nulify u r salaah.....if u dont care wat bout wat is right or wrong...then u can do anything u want....fir the sisters who actually care bout thier salaah my advice...dont use it...simple
Totally agree
This is absurd, even if a nail polish INDEED EXISTED which is waterpermeable, to fulfill all rules to do wudhu properly, think of the aspect what you effect by wearing nail polish or other make up - it's a kind of seduction for men AND should never be shown besides of to your own husband.
Asalmalakum this is true I love this video.
