@@MH-bf4uu Actually dude for the majority of human history patriarchy wasn’t really thing. People lived in , where sharing and co-operation were the norm. Hierarchy, inequality and oppression were virtually unheard of. This changed only within the last 10,000 years. Plus Allah never used the word man. He used a being that walks two legs: human. Allah never makes mistake neither does he run out of words.

Maryam was a Prophet. Even medieval scholars like Ibn Hazm acknowledged that. She served in the temple, something only men used to do. Gabriel spoke to her as he did to other prophets. Miracles are associated with her as they are with other Prophets. She was chosen to deliver the Word (Hazrat Isa) which was her revelation. Her mother thinking she was going to have a son had dedicated her child in service to the temple. That her daughter was destined to play that role under the guardianship of Zakaraia goes to show that God had meant her to do what men were doing. Note that she prayed with other men in the temple too.

In my culture, a long time ago, there's a story about a Spirit called "Revelation Bringer" came down called upon a man to receive revelation, but no man came out to the Spirit, so a brave woman came to the Spirit and the Spirit taught her the laws and prayers. The Spirit taught that there is one God called Minamangun and He sit on His throne above the 7 Heavens. So up until now most of the religious figures are women. But these tradition almost dissapeared as most of us now either a Muslim or christian.

To make an educated guess you would only have to look at the Classical Ahadeeth with regards this topic. Even then you would have a strong educated hypothesis at best. And We sent not (as Our messengers) before thee other than men whom we inspired. Ask the followers of the Reminder if ye know not. (Quran 21:7, Pickthall)
Often in the Bible, the masculine sex is used to refer to both sexes. An example is:
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. (Matthew 5:8, NKJV)
Another example is in St. Paul's writings:
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. (Romans 8:14, NKJV)
We know from other places in the Bible that God has both sons and daughters (not biological ones, of course). (Deuteronomy 32:18,19; Isaiah 43:6; II Corinthian 6:18) So, the word,"sons," is used in Matthew 5:8 and Romans 8:14 in a generic sense to refer to both sexes. If one were to translate that Arabic word in Quran 21:7 as "men" instead of "humans" as Pickthall did, it would be used in a generic sense to refer to both men and women. Dr. Shabir's explanation was good, too. Anyway, if Muhammad asked Jews and Christians if there were only male prophets and not female ones, we would emphatically say that that is not true. There have been prophetesses, too. Dr. Shabir mentioned a few of them. There are other prophetesses in the Bible, too. Hannah the mother of Samuel, Huldah, and the daughters of St. Philip the Deacon are some other examples. Very good explanation by Dr. Shabir. Really people need to break away from interpreting Scripture too literally. Excessively literal interpretations of Scripture are what produce cults and extremist groups. I don't think God is a Fundamentalist.

    Source: Musnad Aḥmad 2896
Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Albani
It is therefore clear that there could not have been a female prophet as none of these 4 women were prophets yet they were the best of the women. Had there been female prophets, they would have surpassed the women mentioned in the hadeeth as Allah ﷻ has chosen his prophets to be the best of His slaves.
This is further cemented in the Qur'an (02:42), Allah ﷻ has stated:
    "... يَا مَرْيَمُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ اصْطَفَاكِ وَطَهَّرَكِ وَاصْطَفَاكِ عَلَىٰ نِسَاءِ الْعَالَمِينَ"
".. O Maryam! Verily, Allah has chosen you, purified you, and chosen you above the women of the nations.''
If the responder is ignorant then it is befitting for him to remain silent on these matters and learn. It is clear to those with knowledge that he is speaking from his whims and desires, his words only seem to appease the western agenda in diluting Islam from its core values due to the rise of Feminism and modernist ideology.
The correct answer is that Allah ﷻ has chosen some of his slaves over others. Men and women have been created differently and therefore have different roles and responsibilities in society. Women have been chosen over men in some regards and men have been chosen in other regards.
Leadership has been assigned to the men of the Ummah, the prophet ﷺ said when he heard the news that the people of the Persia had made the daughter of Khosrau their Queen (ruler):
    "‏ لَنْ يُفْلِحَ قَوْمٌ وَلَّوْا أَمْرَهُمُ امْرَأَةً ‏"‏‏
"Never will succeed such a nation as makes a woman their ruler."
    Sahih al-Bukhari 7099
There is no dispute among the scholars that one of the conditions of the imaam or leader is that he should be male. Ibn Hazam reported in his book Maraatib al-Ijmaa’ that there was scholarly consensus on this point. In the section he says: “Out of all groups of the people of the Qiblah [i.e., all Muslim sects], there is not one that allows the leadership of women.” Al-Qurtubi reported something similar, and al-‘Allaamah al-Shanqeeti said, “There is no difference of opinion among the scholars on this point.”
There are other examples where Allah ﷻ has given preference to women, E.g. Men have to work to provide for their wife and family and so therefore the wife has a right over the money. However, the money that a wife earns is for her to keep and the husband has no right over that money.
We see therefore that Islam takes into consideration the differences between men and women in the roles and responsibilities the genders have in society, it is therefore a religion of justice and wisdom, not equality.

I understand what he tries to convey, however I still do not understand why female prophets (if there were any) weren't explicitly mentioned in the holy books? Even if women were not taken seriously in that specific Islamic Age, would they not have been benefited if the Quran did mention the existence of female prophets? And also, if women are considered to be equal to men in the eyes of Allah (SWT), would they also not be given the same level of importance in the Quran? I understand the presence of Isa (AS) mother, Maryam (RA), as a prominent figure in the holy book, yet in comparison, men are always given a disproportionate amount of attention/importance in the Quran. Not a hater, just a Muslim trying to find her place in the world and feel seen in the eyes of the Creator and trying to understand if I really do matter :) UPDATE: i'm an atheist now lmaoooo either god is uninterventionalist or doesn't exist and i'd much more prefer the latter than believe in islam

In some hadeeths it is clearly stated that Faatimah will be the leader of the women of the people of Paradise, apart from Maryam the daughter of ‘Imraan. This rules out the Prophethood of women other than Maryam, such as the mother of Moosa and ‘Aasiyah, because Faatimah was definitely not a Prophet.
Maryam is described as being a siddeeqah (truthful) in the context of raising her and describing her virtues. Allah, may He be exalted, says:
“The Messiah (Iesa (Jesus)), son of Maryam (Mary), was no more than a Messenger; many were the Messengers that passed away before him. His mother (Maryam (Mary)) was a Siddiqah (i.e. she believed in the words of Allah and His Books). They both used to eat food (as any other human being, while Allah does not eat)…”
    [Surah al-Maa’idah 5:75].
Here it is mentioned that the highest degree his mother reached was that of siddeeqah.
If there were any higher description, it would have been mentioned, but there is no mention in the Qur’aan or in the saheeh hadeeths of the Prophet that any women were Prophets.

In ancient societies, the majority of them didn't hold women in the same regard as men. The men prophets often got persecuted by their own people and even Prophet Muhammad (SAW) got stones thrown at him and was chased out of town by the people of Ta'if. Most likely, there were some women prophets and they were for the fewer matriarchial societies.

Why is there no female prophet in the history of religions?
Yes, there are no female prophets in the history of all religions. However, females were mothers of prophets and had the most important part in raising them as role models for society in terms of their honesty and integrity. It were mothers who taught them all the skills of life based on spirituality of the time. Why did God not choose female prophets? One can ask God about it. We could only understand that God granted a higher status of motherhood of prophets. If one looks at the life histories of prophets, it is clear that the responsibilities of delivering the message, leading the believers in trials and tribulations, and handling other matters would have been hard for females especially when they have the responsibility of raising the families. It is interesting to note that the knowledge given to prophet Muhammad(sa) was transmitted mostly through females, his wives because they were the closest observant of his character and life.

On the other hand, the Arabic word “Man” refers to Males and Females with specific characters such as good manners, strong personality, standing with Truth regardless of consequences, generosity, bravery etc etc.
In fact, the Arabic language is specific in some words and, to some extent, words are taken Metaphorically not Literally to describe a character of that human being, like the word “Man”.
However, the word “Mankind” in english, refers to a community regardless of the above mentioned characters.

As for the verse that says people of the books be asked what isn't known, then we know that there are things which are obviously mentioned in the Bible which aren't true or even, there are such things claimed in the Qur'an that absent in the Bible, such thing as Aaron being a prophet or Ishmail, or Satan being an angel or not etc. If Allah had said the Prophets were rijal, obviously the Bible as it has reached down to us is lying and thus the ahl dhikr will refer to those who knew that the Bible contain errors and nt just anyone.
Dr Shabir has made an error in identifying that "one tend to take information from one like one" because the Qur'an has said, we are of one another.

The simple answer is, men ruled the world in the past. If a woman was sent as a prophet no one would take her seriously.
Also prophets were supposed to be leaders of their land, which in society throughout history was appointed to a man. Also a man prophet is stronger against enemies trying to put harm into him. A man prophet can lead into war if necessary. A man prophet cant get pregnant or have periods that prevent him from spreading the message. A man can move greater distances without getting tired.
Even 100 years ago, if u had a female trying to start a movement, she would've get laughed at. Let alone thousands of years ago.

That statement by Dr. Shabbir Ally on Women Prophets not being too prominent nor being viewed as a reduced version of a prophet in the Bible does not hold water. Consider Huldah the Prophetess as it is written in the Hebrew Scripture as you are asked to consult the people of the book...
"So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter), and they talked with her. And she said to them, “Thus says Yehovah, the God of Israel: ‘Tell the man who sent you to me, Thus says Yehovah, Behold, I will bring disaster upon this place and upon its inhabitants, all the words of the book that the king of Judah has read. Because they have forsaken me and have made offerings to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath will be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched. But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord, thus shall you say to him, Thus says Yehovah the God of Israel: Regarding the words that you have heard, because your heart was penitent, and you humbled yourself before Yehovah when you heard how I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and you have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, declares Yehovah. Therefore, behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes shall not see all the disaster that I will bring upon this place.’ ” And they brought back word to the king." 2 Kings 22:14-20
And Mary even under whichever suggestion, cannot be a Prophetess as all the Prophetesses in the Bible are known and mentioned
This Prophetess Huldah even knew the Divine Name of God like all other Prophets before her

The Reminder(114 Surats) informs us that there is a Tradition which claims to be an Apostolic Tradition but rejects circumcision while the Apostles were all circumcised, the Apostles didn't believe in Trinity, and they had prescribed a dietary Law in Acts 15:22-34 which the said Tradition rejects. It is not ironic!
On the basis of those clues we can say for sure that:
Qur'an is a codeword for Torah.
The Reminder should be the proper Title for the 114 Surats.
Islam means an Evangelical Party supposed to enforce the Torah as the Law of the land.
    Muhammad euphemism for Messiah
Abu Quasim as an Arabian Evangelist who later became a Sovereign Ruler,
Legislator...and took up Muhammad as a reign name.
Unfortunately the "Muhammad" of the Palace and the "Mohammad" of the Shahada in the Mosque got blended together in the Tradition.
It's time to differentiate the Palace and the Mosque...under the Messianic title Mohammad...

    From my reading:
    1. Majority of the scholars disagree on your point.
    2. The verse 21:7 uses the term which you interpreted differently, but had it been to take such a meaning, Allah would have clarified that point. Now the word is more bent on being masculine. In almost all usages, if not really all.
    3. You quoted 10:94 about "asking those who have been reading the scripture before thee". This cannot be applied to interpret any verse. At most, it can be used to interpret that Quran is a Wahi and Muhammad is a Prophet; and that is for the Christians and Jews to believe, and maybe the verses in its context. If you want to use their knowledge to interpret more, then at least do that to confirm what's apparent in the Quran rather than for making a sophistic view.
Now, the task of a Prophet involve speaking to a mixed audience, being an imam, and may even involve engaging in war. And men are given more authority and responsibility by Allah. And now you're saying there were female Prophets for people (men and women) to follow - based on Bible and a sophistic interpretation of a verse? I cannot agree. Do you really think people back then would have believed a woman speaking about monotheism and revelation? Most didn’t even believe in male prophets, let alone a prophetess. Count your blessings, thank Allah for giving you an easier life and stop asking foolish questions. @@verilyhumane6056 maybe, but does it make a difference if she was it not, nothing changes , she will be still the best woman from all women and also like the Qur'an describes one of the best people, like she has the status of a prophet

@@aymanus04 We are talking about a prophet, undeniably bibi mariam was the best of womankind but no holy scripture mentions her as a prophet or the so called "kinda" prophet. Islam is very clear about everything, there is no "kinda" things in Islam, I would rather say Allah knows best instead of that word "kinda".

something for thought: should we limit Allah in not letting Him call a woman if He thinks it best and calls a woman? Personal view: Allah has no limits....Allah knows best....do not go against Allah and what He does because you won't like the outcome of such action.

This isn't about male superiority, patriarchal society has something to do with it from the aspect of practicality, plus prophets are exclusively chosen by Allah and no one can object to anything which He decides or declares, and I guess it is even stated in the Qur'an that even all prophets sent before Muhammad (peace be upon him) were also men! The 360 degree torture, criticism, abuse, resistance, imprisonment, boycott, accusations, lies, manipulation, physical beatings, evil schemes, oppression, killings that most prophets faced and were subjected to from all sections of society including their relatives could never have been endured by a woman! Plus, the roles she is supposed to play as a woman in society would continue to get in the way of prophethood and message i.e vaginal periods, marriage, child labour, and even sexual relations. So it was very wise and merciful of Allah not to lay the heavy responsibilities of prophethood upon women! Mary was a Saint, a friend of Allah and just look at all the criticism and accusations she got from people, especially religious clergies still despite being in such a weak position, Allah comes to her defence and makes her new-born son defend his mother's modesty by helping him through the Rooh-ul-Qudus twice whilst appointing him as a Prophet and a Word of Allah simultaneously so he can talk as a new-born whilst Mary maintains a fast/silence as instructed! Just recall all stories of male prophets and honestly ask yourself how many women of previous times would have successfully accomplished the mission and came out in one piece? Work place harassment, rape, kidnappings, domestic violence still plagues our modern societies, what do you think they d done to a hypothetical female messenger is quite easy to guess! Forget the rest, just imagining how an infidel husband/brother/father would treat such a hypothetical female messenger is an uncomfortable thought to begin with! And Allah knows best!

It was a tough Question.Dr Ally tried to circumvent Citing references from Bible.
Quran being so categorical in everything some how is not so much categorical on this.
Since mind of the 21 st century youth will not accept any discriminatory ideas , Islamic scholars are scrambling for remote references to somehow justify.
Sorry sir Even among Buddhists, Hindus,Jains there are female prophets,Deities, Saints and sages and are explicitly mentioned and referred to.
But having said this nothing wrong if you want to re intrepret Islam in a benign way.
Ultimately what exactly prophet Mohammed meant ( Pbuh) is something to be interpreted as direct literal meanings maybcause confusion.

I’d like to believe that it’s because prophets need to have children, so their children will spread the word of islam after their death, but if the woman was a prophet, she’d get sick from pregnancy, as pregnancy is very tiring and draining on a woman, so, from Allah’s mercy, he has given the task of being a prophet to men, so she, the woman, will be able to rest during pregnancy, while the male prophets must spread wisdom of islam all the time.
