- In this episode we install some Ebay M50 headers and finish up all the wiring to get the car started!
Ran into some issues along the way but we are making some major progress on the build and it looks like the only thing we will need next is to fix a fuel pump problem and get an exhaust fabricated up! Oh- and hook up the cooling system 😅

Nice job on the swap, I got mine done on the e30, next step is turbo!
Check if the pump needs more than 7.5 amps. It’s aftermarket so it might draw more and pop the fuse.
Run a 10 amp fuse and delete the second fuel pump. That is what i did in my 1984 318 m52 swapped car
Thanks for the tip man! Might give that a shot if my current fix doesnt hold up. Im running a new fuel pump and it seems to be working alright so far!

I just wired in a separate relay to power the fuel pump and used the stock harness fuel pump power wire as a signal for the relay

Haha sorry for the wait! And the stock exhaust manifolds should clear; just have to get a custom exhaust made the rest of the way though

Thank you man!! And I had to purchase some 24v swap mounts from garagistic. They work with any m50, m52, s50 or s52 motor for an e30 and you just reuse the e36 motor mount arms. Hope that helps!
Try using a 10-15amp fuse that pump is drawing about 7.6 amps at 60psi. If it blows the fuse again it has a short to ground on the wiring hope this helps.
Ohh I'll give that a shot if it still has issues! I replaced it with a new fuel pump from a 1974 chevy vega and it seems to be working alright so far 😁 my buddy is running the same one on his e30 with the dual fuel pumps

Awhh man perfect excuse for an upgrade! I'm using an e36 radiator I believe but the one without the reservoir attached to it

howd you get the wiring harness connector through the fire wall to the ECU?
Did you have to move the o2 sensors on those headers?
Do you use the stock ecu? Im trying to do a engine swap but im really not sure about anything lol
I used an ecu from an e36! It's a "red label" 413 ecu to be specific. You should be able to find one in a junkyard pretty easily and people also sell them online frequently since it's one of the go to plug n play ecu's for this kinda swap.

I`m looking to do engine swap on my e 30, I want to install M52B28 , I been reading a lot about it online and many ppl saying that you need to change oil sump to shallow one from e34, otherwise, it won't fit in. Did you have to do any of that?

Did you have to move over the brake booster? Or it didn’t get in the way of the manifold.
Im running an e21 brake booster that i got in a deal with the motor which was slightly modified to fit the e30. It is a bit smaller than the stock e30 booster so it fits no problem in the stock location

With an m50 swap do you swap the trans as well?
You can run the stock getrag 260 that comes with M20's but you would need to get a 24v swap crossmember which you can get from Garagistic 😁 you would also need to get a new shifter selector rod with a 10° twist which Garagistic also sells!

Car is now owned by a friend but I did include links in the description to an article and video I used to get the wiring done! Hope that helps 💪🏽

How did you deal with the Ews?
Luckily with the m50b25tu I have, it doesnt have ews 😁. I believe obd2 cars (1996 and above) have ews that you have to deal with. I know some people send in their ecus to get the ews deleted but not sure.
What wiring has to be done for the m50 to work
Mainly just have to rewire the connector from the engine harness to the chassis harness (c101 plug). I included a link on how to do the wiring in the description 😁
Any websites that are the best for looking at e30's looking to buy one
Depends where youre located. If youre in the US, I recommend craigslist or facebook groups. Ebay is also an option

Is an e30 a good first car ?
If you can maintain it or are willing to learn how to work on cars a bit, then I think its a suitable daily/first car! All depends on the condition of the E30 you end up buying.
I think the common problem with the cheap EBay headers is going to be keeping them sealed. The general recommendation is to not use them. I will be interested to hear if you have any problems with them going forward
Ill be sure to post a video of how the swap is working and any issues i encounter after i start driving the car around and give it a good shake down 😁
sumporfuk I did my swap just about a year ago, and I used the ebay headers from SpeedDaddy. They’re still holding up fantastically, but now I’m going turbo and they’ll be of course, removed.

What is the brand/make of the so called bad fuel pump?
It is a TRE walbro 255 equivalent i believe. I think it might be working fine but is drawing too much power for the stock fuel pump wiring but i could be wrong! I know its a popular pump to install into e30s but i might just be having issues because im still also running the external fuel pump as well
