  • This is part 2 of the engine swap on the on my 1989 BMW E30 Touring. The engine I chose for this swap is a US spec, S50B30 which produces about 240 bhp (179 kW). This will be a replacement for the tired old M40B18 that it came with from the factory.

    Motor: S50B30US
    Oil Pan: E34 525i
    Dip Stick: E34 525i
    Pickup Tube: E34 525i
    Motor Mount Arms: E36 325i
    Motor Mounts:
    Exhaust: Longtube Ebay Headers + Custom Exhaust
    Throttle Cable: E34 525i
    DME: 413 RED Label (NO EWS)
    Drive Shaft: E36 325i
    CSB: E30 325i mounted backwards
    Trans Brace: E30 325i
    Transmission: G240 from 318i
    Shifter Linkage: G260 325i
    Flywheel: E30 325i
    PP/Clutch: Stage 2 E30 325i

    Loved this build and Channel! You Guys Made me buy the same thing. Brilliant rot touring. Only difference is that i swapped myself an m50b25 in!! Please keep the E30 vids going!

    Great tip on the reverse light wiring harness "zip tie" tot he shift linkage. I had to replace one already

    What about a long-term update as to the changes and or comparisions of thought from when you first got the wagon/swapped your current impressions with how things go. You could go ham in regards with what annoys you/worked/doesn't work/wished you did.....quirks and features haha. Basically your personal experience and how you really feel with how it's gone so far.

    Quick question, i have an s50 in my e30 and i noticed there are 2 single pole male connectors (coolant temp for guage and oil pressure switch/sensor) but on the harness there is only 1 single pole female connector (originally for the oil pressure). Does the coolant temp sensor get a double pole female connector since that is what the s50 harness is equiped with for that connection?

    Hi. You are using the same differential? No ratio problems?

      I did. The transmission and differential ratio are important to match. I kept both original. When I do ZF trans I’ll need a different differential ratio as well

      No incorrect, USA had S50B30 in E36 and then switched to S52 in 1996

      Is the size of throttle body same as m50b25?

      No sorry, OBD1 S50 out of US spec M3. s52 has additional emissions stuff, different fuel rail, OBD2 etc
