My favorite courtroom drama is Witness for the Prosecution (1957), which was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Film Editing and Best Sound Recording. It was based on a short story by Agatha Christie.

Congratulations to the only reaction channel I have ever seen recognize the Judge as Herman Munster....and there wasn't any bad person in this film. Even if Pesci got them off, most people would think they 'got away with murder'.

One of the nice things about this movie is that no one that we meet in the courtroom drama is a villain: they're all doing their jobs. We're prepared for that in the whole hunting section: the little conversation between Lane and Pesci is open and sympathetic; Lane is a dedicated prosecutor determined to win his case, but that's why he's paid, and he explains his perspective in that scene. The judge warns Vinny in his first scene that he's an impatient man when it comes to procedure; and his instincts about Vinny's level of expertise and his honesty with the judge are correct. When Lisa, at first, doesn't answer Lane's question, the judge doesn't throw her out of the witness box: he takes the time to clarify what the problem is and allows her time to explain. The witnesses all honestly believe what they think they've seen. I like that.
Excellent statement - everybody is trying to do the right thing, and it's one of the few movies where there is no bad guy shown. This film is often used in law school to teach procedure. It is an amazing performance by everybody involved. Marisa is perfect, absolutely deserving of the Oscar, and Joe is incredible ... my favorite role for him. I've loved Fred Gwynne since his Car 54 days. A lot of people don't know that he wrote children's books and I recently bought a set of them ... such a wonderful and gracious person. Herman type cast him to a certain point, and he ended up feeling captured in that character, but Herman just might be my favorite television character of all-time, right there with Barney Fife and Ted Lasso.
@@chadbennett7873 I also loved Herman Munster! In our family it was a dead heat between the Munsters and the Addams Family. The Addamses won out just slightly because our father was from Spain and, well, Gomez. A lot of wonderful actors ended up trapped in the public perception of their popular tv roles during the 60s and 70s - it's one of the reasons Leonard Nimoy resented Spock for so many years: he simply could no longer work as an actor of the range he knew he had. Yes, Gwynne wrote some lovely children's books like "The King Who Rained" - he seemed to have been a very charming man. (John Lithgow is also an actor/author).
@@barowt Maybe not even there: there's a running undercurrent in the movie of people not understanding the conversation being held, and that might apply here: the sheriff, under pressure and probably grieving the death of someone in a very small community, hears what he hears and runs with it. The circumstances and the witnesses all confirm what he has understood. But when it comes to it, after an initial resistance, he agrees to run down Vinny's hunch, just requesting to know why.
The film has been praised by lawyers as one of the more realistic movies about the justice system and the lawyer profession, and certainly one of the most successful ones at drawing humor from a courtroom setting
It was so accurate that when it was released there was only one major procedural error, at least until there was a change in the system and now it’s not an error.

One of the most satisfying movie endings ever. It used to come on TV all the time in the 90s, and it was like Back to the Future, if you were flipping through and saw it on, you had to sit and watch it all the way to the end. Easily in my all time top 10.

A lot of it has to do with Sorkin’s dialogue. But I think my favorite of all time is To Kill a Mockingbird with Gregory Peck. His closing argument is one of the best performances I have ever seen. Almost 7 minutes, and he only needed to do it once. He nailed it on the first try. Absolutely incredible.
My Cousin Vinny and a Few Good Men will always be the best Courtroom movies of all time, LIAR LIAR as a comedy and Trial of the Chicago 7 are definitely up there.
So excited forward to this one! 😊 I love this movie so much! It's one of my top favorite comfort movies. Joe Pesci, Marisa Tomei, Ralph Macchio, Lane Smith(RIP always), and Fred Gwynne(RIP always) are all fantastic in this. Fun Fact: Marisa Tomei won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1993 for her role in this movie.
24:41 - *_Well that was a very Costanza-esque performance from Joe Pesci right there! 😂 (Maybe that is why George loves Marisa Tomei in this movie: He sees himself as Vinny, hitched up to her! 🤣)_* 35:01 - *_t's not just that it is his court room or that he dislikes Vinny: Trotter was right when he told Vinny that new evidence, if it is discovered during the trial, maybe be presented as a surprise (Vinny himself later does this with the pictures of the tire marks). The only thing that the judge could have been more flexible with is that when, after the testimony, Vinny asks for time to review this new evidence, most judges probably would have agreed to adjourn for the day and let the defense work on it overnight to the next day (But then again, the judge gets that note about Vinny possibly not being the lawyer he pretended to be... So it get nebulous as whether or nor he is being a d*ck or just stickler for rules; I personally always thought the judge in this movie it just a really conservative and proud judge who runs a tight show -Sure, Vinny rubs him the wrong way & so he doesn't cut him any slack, but I don't think he would have been much more lenient with any other out-of-town lawyer. And as we see later, bith the judge and Trotter aren't resentful to Vinny: They operated under the conviction that they were rightfully perusing justice for the man who got shot and thought the evidence showed they had the right guys; which is why they are all happy in the end, because justice triumphed and two innocent boys were freed!)_* *_Fun fact: The Legal Eagle, a lawyer/UA-camr, made a great analysis of My Cousin Vinny's court room proceedings and declare that all of the procedures were in fact in line with true court room procedures and therefore a pretty accurate depiction of said proceedings (And apparently, some law professor show the movie to their students as a study of both what to do and what NOT to do!)_*
Bravo Vanessa for recognizing that he played Herman Munster. My girlfriend at the time was "who?" when we saw this in the theater and I recognized him. However, she did get & would wear a dress like what Marissa has at the end of the movie. So, that balanced things out. ;-)
I love this film so much, this and Clue are my comfort films. The whole cast is incredible, all bringing their A game. Marisa Tomei is an absolute gem, I became a huge fan of her after this. Galaxy Quest and Evolution are another 2 films I love. It’s always great when it’s the first viewing for both of you ❤️❤️
My dad was the chief bailiff of a municipal court and he loved this movie.. especially the courtroom scenes. He always cracked up at the 'Utes' line. Miss you Dad!
this is probably one of my favorite courtroom films and even though I know the outcome, the payoff is still good no matter how many times I see it. that's a testament to great screenwriting, directing, and acting. ❤
I actually never heard of this movie until a few years ago,and finally watched maybe 2-3 years ago.if has become none of my favorite movies of this genre, and one I watch every single reaction to.
There was a lady...didn't ask if she was single...but in my defense she DID almost kill me with her car when I was jogging back to watch this. She was looking left while turning right. I'm agile. And she was cute. But I had actually been thinking while I was jogging "Robert and Vanessa's reaction to "MY COUSIN VINNY" should be up already!" REALLY glad I was able to get here to see it. Your reaction was worth every effort. = )
@@LatetotheParty She circled around the block and came back to make sure I was alright! She was SO upset! You hurt?" Nope. "You traumatized?" Again, nope. Pretty sure SHE was traumatized. I did my best to reassure, her and made her promise to not fret or stress about it. Go home, be calm and happy because everything worked out wonderfully. She promised to do that AND check three times before turning. = )
It’s a well constructed and well done film and it’s not cynical. There isn’t a character you don’t like including the antagonists. And I love that Tomei won an Oscar for this, now she won over basically a 4 way split vote but comedic roles are undervalued at the Oscar’s so I appreciate she won for one. The courtroom shots are fantastic, courtroom films are often so static but this brought a kinetic energy to it that I don’t think other films haven’t followed.
3 great courtroom/trial movies from the 1950's that I think you'd like are; " Twelve Angry Men"(1957); "Anatomy of a Murder" (1957); and "Witness for the Prosecution"(1959). Most of the courtroom films which you mentioned that you've already seen are comedies, but these 3 are all tense dramas. Also they are all in black and white so I hope you are not prejudiced against non-color movies like it seems many younger people are.
Very few reactors recognized the Judge as Herman Munster probably because they have no idea what the Munsters are Love this movie and watching reactions to it
@@LatetotheParty me too. Saturdays for me was Munsters, Gilligan’s Island and Family Film Festival (if I liked the movie, if not I’d go out and play 😂)
Love this movie and Marisa Tomei. I always and still think they should make a TV show based on this. A lawyer/court comedy, mystery would be great!! Maybe Pesci and Tomei could have recurring roles or something
Some facts about this movie 1st when joe knocks over the chess pieces that was accidental but left in 2nd the owl just randomly flew onto the tree so it was used for the scene 3rd when the stuttering guy speaks in the court room for the first time if you look closely in the background the 3 actors are trying to hold in their laughter 4th the 2 yutes line was a miss communication between the director and joe pesci so it was left in
Since you mentioned courtroom dramas.......three really good ones are, "A Time to Kill" w/Samuel L. Jackson & Matthew McConahey, "The Exorcism of Emily Rose", and "Devil's Advocate" (Just a good movie, not so much for the court scenes), w/Al Pacino & Keanu Reeves.
One thing most people don't get about the ending: Vinny didn't NEED Mona Lisa's testimony. He drags her back to make her feel useful and respected. He could have asked the questions (in a different way, of course) to the expert.
Well, people like to say that the procedure is realistic, but a real criminal defense attorney knows better.... In that instance, the expert could not have authenticated the photo and it would not have been admissible as evidence. Only Lisa could have done that (and Vinnie didn't have her do that and the prosecutor didn't object)
@@sallyatticumsallyatticum You forget that the government already had a similar photo as evidence. He only had to ask the questions about if the car was able to make those marks. And the answer would have to be "nope".
@@somehighlights2851 Except Vinnie offered that photo in evidence. I don't recall a different photo, but, also, he knew nothing about this expert. He didn't know how he would testify. The judge should have sustained Vinnie's objection.
@@sallyatticumThere would have been other photos of the tire marks taken as evidence presented. Since the photo apparently showed them from a drastically different angle, Vinny asked Mr. Trotter if they could agree it was a photo of the same marks, which he did. It was only then entered as evidence, supplemental to what had already been seen and admissable. Mr. Trotter had already told Vinny he thought he had the case sewn up so he didn't realize how Vinny could get anything from the one photo and saw/had no reason to object.
Alternatively, if Lisa refused to testify or was disallowed as an expert witness: given that Vinny is an experienced auto mechanic himself, the rules of court would have allowed himself to take the stand as an expert witness, since he had no way of knowing that his own general knowledge of American automobiles would be relevant to the case.
I’ve always thought the only way this film could be improved was if they actually had the off-camera scene with Marissa Tomei at the pool table. Sadly, one can only imagine…
Great courtroom dramas to react to: A Few Good Men, 12 Angry Men, Runaway Jury, Erin Brockovich, Philadelphia, The Rain Makers, Defending Your Life, Legally Blonde
If you look in the background during the public defenders first scene, their whole table is cracking up. 😂 this is one of the most quotable movies of all time.
Two other great films with Joe Pesci that I could recommend: The Super, and With Honors Very different from his Scorsese-type roles, much like Vincent Gambini.
the Director was worried about Owl scene thinking the Owl would fly away but it turned out to be a very Lucky one shot take where the reaction and expression from the Owl in the scene was like a gift from the film God's.
‘Nuns On The Run’ is an underrated classic. I have the dvd. Love it. I watched it a lot as a kid. Put some maple syrup or brown sugar in your grits. You’ll like it better.
I like that after hearing the testimony, the prosecutor dismissed all the charges. Prosecutors don’t want to send innocent people to jail, but in movies we usually see them dig their heels in.
I am so glad that you liked this. This my favorite movie of all time! I can't tell you how many times I have seen it, especially the Marisa Tomei courtroom scene!
Okay, I had a lot of fun watching you guys enjoy a movie I have actually seen over 100 times in the last 31 years. My BFF and I saw this film opening weekend here in L.A. (Torrance Del Amo Mann 9 RIP) I then recorded it off HBO and she & I would watch it anytime she was over and we wanted to laugh. Such a Funny film that still holds up!
So happy you watched this with us for one of your MANY viewings! We had a blast with this film and can see why you have seen it so many times! Thanks for sharing your experience growing up with "My Cousin Vinny". Hearing people's experience is one of our favorite parts about reacting to films of the past.
Robert, man, thank you for mentioning Lois & Clark, that was and still is (thanks to HBO Max) my favorite show!!! You are the man, high five!! 🖐️ Favorite courtroom movie, I too like Liar Liar, Jim Carrey is just great.
When an arrest is made, the cops are required to tell the arrestee what the charges are. If they do not, they have violated the arrestee's rights, and that kind of procedural error leads to freedom, and a reprimand for the arresting officer for making the DA look stupid.
Great movie one of the best legal movies not just a great comedy. I heard This movie is so accurate lawyers study it. Other great legal movies are The Rainmaker ,A Civil Action. The part that always kills me is the public defender who looks so perfect and than he is completely useless where he cant speak at court. The girl is Marisa Tommi who plays Peter Parker Aunt May in the Mcu. Vinny Cousin is Ralph Macho who plays in The Karate Kid.
34:20 That's James Rebhorn, he also portrayed Mr Trask (the evil principal) in Scent of a Woman, and he was also in Meet the Parents, among many others. Great actor, died of cancer if i recall correctly.
For a courtroom drama with a difference I recommend A Matter of Life and Death. Go into it blind if you can as even the premise will be a cool surprise when you grok what it is :)
Now about how many looked I began the movie when he entered the courtroom with his leather jacket tucked-in shirt and all that stuff, Not only in his eyes would it be a mockery of the court for him to show up like that but that's actually how all courts work across the United States and every other country. If you are not dressed as a typical lawyer does treatment that you saw in this film that the judge gave to Vinny would be the same treatment as one else would get, with the court system if you are a lawyer you have to look the part. So with the judge not liking Vinny from most of this movie that's all Vinny's doing.
I'm also surprised that no one got the "666" joke of him practicing for 6 weeks, been out of school for 6 years, and it took him 6 times to pass the bar!
Deer are color blind so it doesnt matter what you wear thats why hunters wear orange vest so other hunters can recognize that they arent something to shoot at
Okay, it's strange to add further, but my uncle introduced the film because of my legal endeavor and learning to pronounce Marisa Tomei ( Toe~ may ) thinking she was French but realizing much later of her Italian background. Also, my uncle grew up with Italians, and that must have had an influence on having to watch under a " Yuth " -ful era.
Slurpees and Slush Puppies are not entirely the same. True that they are both made with ice and flavored syrup, but there is difference in the ice. The ice in Slurpees is of such a small coarse, so small that you can't see the ice, but you can feel a fine grittiness. Slush Puppies have larger very small beads of ice; you can see them and feel them - Old school snow cones had the same size ice beads. The best I can describe the Ice beads is to relate to stick pins, a very specific type of stick pin, primarily used when sewing - the head of the that stick pin is closest to the size of the ice in a Slush Puppy. In short, Slush Puppies are chunky.
The reason why Vinny could go sound asleep in the prison wasn't because of confidents. It's a northern city type thing that hearing the sirens and riot fights seem more familiar so it was like having that white noise he's used to in the background, that he can fall asleep to...whereas the steam whistles, trains and pigs are familiar sounds a southerner isn't bothered by.
This one is just as good every time I watch it. Love the characters and the humor. Favorite moment is when she tents her fingers on the rail because he was so pleased with her, and she was pleased that she got to help. ❤ For young Joe Pesci try Easy Money. He plays Rodney Dangerfield's best buddy. Fun!
Oh wow, I just saw Mom and Dad Save the World on your list! I remember that film (vaguely)! Don't know how it would hold up today, but I loved it when I was a kid.

My two favorite lines from Marissa Tomei: "Would you like me to ex-PLAIN?" and "They WUH!"😂 Thanks for incuding both of them!👍
24:41 - *_Well that was a very Costanza-esque performance from Joe Pesci right there! 😂 (Maybe that is why George loves Marisa Tomei in this movie: He sees himself as Vinny, hitched up to her! 🤣)_*
35:01 - *_t's not just that it is his court room or that he dislikes Vinny: Trotter was right when he told Vinny that new evidence, if it is discovered during the trial, maybe be presented as a surprise (Vinny himself later does this with the pictures of the tire marks). And as we see later, bith the judge and Trotter aren't resentful to Vinny: They operated under the conviction that they were rightfully perusing justice for the man who got shot and thought the evidence showed they had the right guys; which is why they are all happy in the end, because justice triumphed and two innocent boys were freed!)_*
*_Fun fact: The Legal Eagle, a lawyer/UA-camr, made a great analysis of My Cousin Vinny's court room proceedings and declare that all of the procedures were in fact in line with true court room procedures and therefore a pretty accurate depiction of said proceedings (And apparently, some law professor show the movie to their students as a study of both what to do and what NOT to do!)_*
I grew up watching this movie; so good! Every few months I find myself saying out loud 'these two yoots' love that line.
Bravo Vanessa for recognizing that he played Herman Munster.
My girlfriend at the time was "who?" when we saw this in the theater and I recognized him.
However, she did get & would wear a dress like what Marissa has at the end of the movie. So, that balanced things out. ;-)
Still love watching it to this day and I watched it in the movie theater when I was little.
Couldn't agree more!
I agree, but 12 Angry Men is pretty awesome too.
@@chadbennett7873 yeah! 12 Angry Men is one of my other favorites! 😃
@@the_nikster1 Maybe the best court related movie ever made ... with an all-star cast of the best character actors of their time!
@@chadbennett7873 amen to that!
I actually never heard of this movie until a few years ago,and finally watched maybe 2-3 years ago.if has become none of my favorite movies of this genre, and one I watch every single reaction to.
One not none
@@thehonestwoodcutterbradywe8011none which means he not fan of this movie
@@boboboy8189 haven't you ever made a typo?
There was a lady...didn't ask if she was single...but in my defense she DID almost kill me with her car when I was jogging back to watch this. She was looking left while turning right. I'm agile. And she was cute. But I had actually been thinking while I was jogging "Robert and Vanessa's reaction to "MY COUSIN VINNY" should be up already!" REALLY glad I was able to get here to see it. Your reaction was worth every effort. = )
Oh geeze! So glad you made it out alive! Watch out for those crazy drivers!
27:16 - “Looks like he works at the Tower of Terror”- I AM DEAD 😂
I think you guys might be the only ones I've seen react to this who knew who Fred Gwynne was.
We've LOVED Herman Munster our entire lives!
"it's not worth winning if you can't win big"..opposing attorney was also the coach of the Haws in the Mighty Ducks..
A time to Kill????
Why no Rashomon in your list?
This movie has one of the most satisfying endings in film.
Favorite Courtroom Movies: -Inherit the Wind 1960 -Adam's Rib 1949 -The Devil's Advocate 1997
Very few reactors recognized the Judge as Herman Munster probably because they have no idea what the Munsters are
Love this movie and watching reactions to it
We both grew up with The Munsters. Fred was well known in both our households.
@@LatetotheParty me too. Saturdays for me was Munsters, Gilligan’s Island and Family Film Festival (if I liked the movie, if not I’d go out and play 😂)
Mona Lisa Vito is one of the greatest characters in the history of movies!!
I love Anatomy of a Murder with Jimmy Stewart. To Kill a Mockingbird with Gregory Peck, And Adam's Rib (a comedy) with Hepburn and Tracy.
Love this movie and Marisa Tomei. I always and still think they should make a TV show based on this. A lawyer/court comedy, mystery would be great!! Maybe Pesci and Tomei could have recurring roles or something
Vinny can sleep in the prison cause he's from newyork. Riot sounds are all white noise to him
Some facts about this movie 1st when joe knocks over the chess pieces that was accidental but left in 2nd the owl just randomly flew onto the tree so it was used for the scene 3rd when the stuttering guy speaks in the court room for the first time if you look closely in the background the 3 actors are trying to hold in their laughter 4th the 2 yutes line was a miss communication between the director and joe pesci so it was left in
Since you mentioned courtroom dramas.......three really good ones are, "A Time to Kill" w/Samuel L. Jackson & Matthew McConahey, "The Exorcism of Emily Rose", and "Devil's Advocate" (Just a good movie, not so much for the court scenes), w/Al Pacino & Keanu Reeves.
The little hand movement after lisa says "they wah" is the cutest thing in moviedom.
Two other great films with Joe Pesci that I could recommend:
The Super, and With Honors
Very different from his Scorsese-type roles, much like Vincent Gambini.
Thanks for the recommendations! Never heard of "With Honors". Staked cast. Is it more comedy or drama?
Marisa 1993 won Best Supporting Actress Award for her performance in the movie. Oscar’s
the Director was worried about Owl scene thinking the Owl would fly away but it turned out to be a very Lucky one shot take where the reaction and expression from the Owl in the scene was like a gift from the film God's.
Out of all My Cousin Vinny Reactions i have watched you guys is the best. Your editing is excellent. Dont change a thing. Love from Maine 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Very happy to hear that! Thanks so much!
‘Nuns On The Run’ is an underrated classic. I have the dvd. Love it. I watched it a lot as a kid.
Put some maple syrup or brown sugar in your grits. You’ll like it better.
Marisa Tomei thoroughly deserved her Oscar for this!
I like that after hearing the testimony, the prosecutor dismissed all the charges. Prosecutors don’t want to send innocent people to jail, but in movies we usually see them dig their heels in.
Marisa Tomei won an Oscar for this movie.
2 Yutes! You know, 2 Youtes!
"Oh, excuse me, Your Honor. Two yeeeoouuutthhs."
Another fun reaction by you guys! Fun to watch!
If you havent seen it yet. One of , if not THEE best courtroom movies of all time "A few good men"
It's on the list. Neither of us have seen it.
When an arrest is made, the cops are required to tell the arrestee what the charges are. If they do not, they have violated the arrestee's rights, and that kind of procedural error leads to freedom, and a reprimand for the arresting officer for making the DA look stupid.
The ultimate courtroom drama, JFK, from the same year and also with Joe Pesci.
This was Fred Gwynne’s (the judge)last film
He died the year after the film came out
Such a shame.
A FEW GOOD MEN !!!! One of the best "Trial Movies" you did not mention.
We've never seen it. It's on the list.
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
One of my all time favs. Nice job guys.😊
we used to always quote "yes,yes...yes without the oops"..
So few people know about a little gem with Michael Richards (yes since cancelled) and Jeff Bridges (I think) named Trial & Error
We are one of those few people.
@@LatetothePartyTrial and Error is also directed by Johnathan Lynn !
One of my favorite courtroom movies is "Witness for the Prosecution".
Now you know why they call it a screech owl.
This is such a great movie.
Now about how many looked I began the movie when he entered the courtroom with his leather jacket tucked-in shirt and all that stuff,
Not only in his eyes would it be a mockery of the court for him to show up like that but that's actually how all courts work across the United States and every other country.
This is the most realistic court movie made. So much many law schools show it to their students.
"I shot the clerk"... four words you don't repeat when you've been arrested :)
True that. Plus he said it twice. Double trouble!
Even Perry Mason had people helping him win cases.
James Rebhorn was also in "Scent of a Woman".
Did you say youts? Absolutely love this movie, especially the late, great Fred Gwynne as the judge. Great reaction.
I also used to work at Hollywood Video and quit due to the disrespect from my bosses.
Smith was also the mayor in Red Dawn
I would check out Murder in the First. It has a couple of stars in the lead roles. I don't want to say too much.
There's a funny reference to this movie in Cobra Kai. I was the only one watching at the time that caught it and everybody asked me what was so funny.
oh! as for courtroom drama recommendations, Primal Fear is always a great one.
Vanessa has never seen it, so it's definitely on the list!
Presumed Innocent with Harrison Ford.
@@LatetotheParty YES!!!
For young Joe Pesci try Easy Money. He plays Rodney Dangerfield's best buddy. Fun!
We'll add it to the list.
It's one of my top 10 favorite movies
Oh wow, I just saw Mom and Dad Save the World on your list! I remember that film (vaguely)! Don't know how it would hold up today, but I loved it when I was a kid.
Apparently it's on HBO Max at the moment.
@LatetotheParty Turns out it's also just on youtube! ua-cam.com/video/dyXEOeQMmjc/v-deo.htmlsi=wCZlPuB5Aedt4k3O
It's corny as all get out but it's still hilarious.
@toodlescae Yeah I rewatched it today. Very silly, but I enjoyed it.
The prosecutor is also in Eddie Murphy's underappreciated gem, "The Distinguished Gentleman."
