My first job out of college in 1966 was working for Dick Boyer Studio in Chicago. Dick was the highest paid commercial color photographer in Chicago (Vic Skrebneski was the highest paid B & W photographer). All our studio work with models was done with standard Hasselblad lenses and big strobes, but most of our location work with models was done with a focal-plane-shutter Hasselblad and a big, blue metallic 500mm f4.5 lens form somewhere in Eastern Europe. I think for Landscape Photography, if you do not want to carry a tripod, then this new Fuji GFX 100SII is a very good buy, I would get it with 30, 45 and 80mm Lenses, but Fuji needs to make new more compact, light weight Lenses with much better optical image quality !
You want lenses that are smaller, lighter, AND better? That sounds unreasonable. There are compromises to medium format, and two of them are size and weight.
You’ve obviously never seen, much less edited, raw files out of a GFX! They are way way better than full frame..sorry to burst your “Sony marketing bubble”
If you consider full frame image quality to be 2.3x as good as APS-C then 33x44mm medium format is 1.68x as good as full frame. That is all there is to it at a fundamental level.
Recently I have watch on UA-cam bear attack on people in North America. It looks to me that you were filming in the bear country, are you afraid? Nice report of GFX 100S II, I might keep my Leica SL2-S not go for SL3 and get a GFX 100S II mainly for landscape and nature use (not in bear country LOL).
Most of the people are not professional photographers and 5K just for body is too steep. FF rangefinder will be more handy for most. I would like to something like rolleiflex with 2 mounts and capability to stitch 2 images vertically and horizontally either in panorama/tall or stereo depending if both lens are the same. If not, it would be closeup and tele. That would be ultimate camera, and will beat smartphone. Large monitor on the top would be icing on the cake. All for 2K body.
Man, the videos that Jordan shoots with Fujis always look SO crisp and contrasty. You can see the difference between the two videos you posted today. I’ve commented the same thing on your previous Shot-on-Fuji videos. Reckon it’s X-Trans vs Bayer, or Flog vs Vlog/Slog/Clog that I always notice?
So there are 100, 100S, 100 II and 100S II, all with the same sensor but different bodies? And S doesn't mean stacked as in X-H2S? Who comes up with that naming, come on
Sensor development is expensive, and 33x44mm sensors are quite a niche, so don't get much development by Sony Semi., so all those models having the same basic sensor is reasonable. The naming is a little confusing, as you mention, though.
Almost all GFX lenses have very slow (and noisy) AF, so a better AF performance of the camera doesn't play the deciding role. If the algorithm is the same: the AF tracking of the XH2/XH2s is years behind the (FF) competition, so frustration is probably guaranteed, even with the fastest focusing GFX lenses available.
Let's not exagerate. We all know once the medium format cameras were expensive, but still, this is a 8k body. Not quite for the "masses". I'm a GFX 100s owner and I would not consider an upgrade too soon, unless I will have a rain in the revenue.

It's for the Artist and that's kind of something that Fuji haven't really ever mentioned. This camera is for someone that wants to create something am. Okay video well it's a big camera. You really not gonna use it for video? Yes it's got 4K30. You can pick up a little Sony EV camera to do your video. If you really wanted to. If you can afford this you can afford a little camera to do your video on.... If anyone else wants to ask me a question on my findings on this camera, send me a message on Instagram nevclarke_artphotography
I still don’t understand the difference between the 100s II and the 100 II
Im waiting for the rangefinder.
But can they actually provide better image quality, than a high res full frame camera with a good lens?
You’ve obviously never seen, much less edited, raw files out of a GFX! They are way way better than full frame..sorry to burst your “Sony marketing bubble”
If you consider full frame image quality to be 2.3x as good as APS-C then 33x44mm medium format is 1.68x as good as full frame. That is all there is to it at a fundamental level.
Nice camera but….what pack do you have on - looks suh-weet!
All these new fuji releases... I wish they would ship my backordered x100vi :(...
Finally a useful 5m dots evf lol
Omg we are spoiled aren’t we?!
I just put my 3m for 50s in the dump bin because I just can’t manage.
Chris and the camera should get a room.
still waiting on that GFX50r ii
Nice camera…but really want to know what pack you had / looks suh-weet! Google picture leads me to Vanguard Havana…
Sounds like Chris and the GFX 100S II need to get a room.
I would go for nikon z8 or Sony a7r5 with this budget.
Chris slinging a $5000 dollar camera from hand to hand like a pro.
7:14 Man that was something 😂.
Im honestly surprised this is launching so close to the 100 ii.
why no 4k 60 fps video 😖
Since Fuji has, once again, remained silent re: any bit-depth drop, the issue probably still exists.
Agreed, it is the same firmware platform on the X-Processor 5, so probably has all the same foibles as the 100II.
Gallivanting was of the best kind
That sound ? was me gasping as Chris just casual tossed the camera from one hand to other in the opening......
07:25 From Chris's future memoir "of course what the viewers didn't realise is Jordan had no pants, so I shot him behind the rocks"
I’m so confused as to which version this Fuji is in the video and I’m not even joking
Freak! Well done. Thanks!
Not X-Trans vs Bayer, the demosaicing won't have an effect on picture-level colours. The gamma curve and picture profile will of course.
if it drives down the price on second hand 100s id be happy
So there are 100, 100S, 100 II and 100S II, all with the same sensor but different bodies? And S doesn't mean stacked as in X-H2S?
Who comes up with that naming, come on
Sensor development is expensive, and 33x44mm sensors are quite a niche, so don't get much development by Sony Semi., so all those models having the same basic sensor is reasonable. The naming is a little confusing, as you mention, though.
Doesn’t have leaf shutter.
Single divorced dad Jordan getting his swerve on down at Applebees 😂
“I’m a nice guy, but I’m on the prowl “… 😂😂😂
X-T50's video is not bad actually
How many times did Chris mess up the camera names while shooting this? 😆
GFX 100
GFX 100 version II
GFX 100S
GFX 100S version II
That’s pretty messy
GFX100S II C$6,750.00
FUJFILM GF 500mm f5.6 R LM OIS WR C$4,725.00
IBIS 8 stop. How the hell is it possible in this big sensor?
Still would like the gfx 50s😅
I can't seem to find anywhere if the 4K video is cropped? Does it use the full width of the Medium Format Sensor?
Almost all GFX lenses have very slow (and noisy) AF, so a better AF performance of the camera doesn't play the deciding role.
If the algorithm is the same: the AF tracking of the XH2/XH2s is years behind the (FF) competition, so frustration is probably guaranteed, even with the fastest focusing GFX lenses available.
Looks like a killer camera.... HILARIOUS camera man talk while taking Jordans pic LOL.
thanks
Throw an nd on that video your big time. lol my pristine professional eyes can’t handle them harsh highlights
I'm going to drink this particular Kool-Aid.
Let's not exagerate. We all know once the medium format cameras were expensive, but still, this is a 8k body. Not quite for the "masses".
I'm a GFX 100s owner and I would not consider an upgrade too soon, unless I will have a rain in the revenue.
