Hey Jon, now that you've hit That Twist in the Dark Brotherhood questline, go and compare your early Dead Drop notes to the later ones, and see if you spot any differences. The attention to detail and playing fair with the player is one of my favorite parts of this questline.
No, playing fair would be giving the player the ability to diverge the questline by actually finding Lucien and asking him if those were really his orders The way it is actually set up its basically taunting the player with the fact that they are being taken for a ride After all, we are talking about Mr. Paper Aeroplanes Emil Pagriarulo after all, there is no way he lets the player ruin his beatiful story of a Brotherhood betrayed.
My favorite things like this is how you can find a full dark brotherhood armor set in the khajits house and that the barbarian has unique robes in the snow that have been bleached of their color so they dont look like black hand robes.

Thats a quality of an actual RPG, where you play the role of a character in that world. If your game is well designed, and the player can notice something based on things they learned in the SAME QUESTLINE, then it would be weird the the player character themselves wouldnt be able to. From their point of view, in the best case lucien just had an off day and they were just taking things safe and serious, which wouldnt be weird for the PROFESSIONAL HITMAN, worst case its a setup by the imperial guard or something even worse

In Lucien's dead drops it only reads who to kill and a hint at how to best approach it, nothing about the motive or reason why the murder was ordered; Lucien makes it clear from the first meeting (if you ask why Rufio must die) that he will only give you the target, not an explanation The false dead drops, on the other hand, all give a (made-up) motive and explanation on why the client ordered the hit, e.g. the last victim supposedly courted a married woman and the husband wanted him dead When you know the plot it's easy to spot the differences but tbh I had no idea something was off when I first played it. It's a nice detail though
Lucien's confrontation after the player kills Ungolim is probably my favorite bit of dialogue in the game. Wes Johnson was already oozing personality as Lucien but this was another level

I imagine the tower teleporters would be useful as a vampire. If you need to cross the map and don't want to stop to skip every day or get hurt showing up in daytime, the teleporter would get you there instantly and indoors.
I feel like Jon was a bit unfair saying they were useless. They take you directly inside each mage guild building for each city. You don't even have to bother with fast travel to the city and then travel inside to get to the guild. Also, it's funny but if you use the Kvatch portal it takes you to a smoking hole in the ground that basically kills you.
Being the Gray Fox maxes out your infamy. That’s why you can’t use the Crusader’s relics. Also you don’t need to be hidden to take off the cowl. Just take it off and yield to the guards.

Jon you need to remove the cowl BEFORE the guard forces you into a conversation. You can stand out in broad daylight, fully draw your bow, pause and equip the cowl, fire the arrow, pause and unequip the cowl. Completely consequence free.

Great quests, interesting world system for npc schedules. Bland world to explore, horribly copy paste style leveled enemies every single step you take.
Really should craft a spell for weakness to fire so that way your damage over time on your sword is way more effective, to the point where it will do more damage than your actual swing sword. Just cast the weakness spell, hit them with it, and if it's a real short duration, if you apply the fire damage before the effect wears off, the full damage over time gets the weakness effect still. So cast, swing, cast swing, and things will just melt. Edit: Probably a good thing you used the Gray Cowl to kill that last target, cause otherwise if you'd killed him without the mask on while on the roof you'd have soft locked your game cause Lachance would have frozen you in place while he tried to get to you, but couldn't since you were on the roof.
Jon found out he can cast Fortify Speed on his Horses, and boom, madness insues, but he still has yet to learn that all he needs to do to get the gaurds to stop fighting him after putting on the Cowl of the Grey Fox is to yeld to the gaurds with it off.
I was just shouting at the video "Just take off the damned cowl!" when he was circling around the house trying to flee the guards. He does not only need to learn when to remove the cowl but also how to yield to guards. To be fair it's all but irrelevant now. The Dark Brotherhood questline is almost over and the last missions don't require killing people in towns, and I don't think there are many quests that involve murdering people or committing crimes besides the DB and Thieves guild questlines. Jon won't find much more use for the cowl unless he decides to go on broad daylight crimesprees just for giggles
I think you may need a spell that does the opposite of "hurry up you slow bastard" a "stop running ahead you stupid bastard" to make it harder for npc to run ahead of you.
That's hard because a burden or damage speed would been seen as assault. Though I know in Morrowind you could hit them with a very low strength levitation spell and they'd be slowed down without taking offense.
The Mage's Tower is amazing. You have everything for enchanting and spell crafting, potion making. And you get a huge room to fill with melons or cheese (via duplication glitch). Alternatively you can also cover Cyrodil in melons from the top of the tower. And then you can test aoe spells in the room with the melons and crash your PC. Oh and we can't forget hurling followers off the mountain. Good times were had in that tower.
Mages Guild fast travel portals are one of 4 methods of travel in Morrowind. Some people really hated the lack of any kind of realistic or lore-friendly travel that wasn’t just a loading screen, so the portal was a neat concession for the people who don’t like using FT
the black hand consists of one listener and 4 speakers each with a silencer. you've killed two speakers, two silencers and the listener. that means lucien (speaker), you (silencer) and another speaker and their silencer are left.
There's also presumably another silencer out there, who was working for the listener. But now that the listener is dead, and they communicated through dead drops, that silencer will be left hanging with no idea what happened.
The magical doom tower was my favourite home. The garden never refreshed in any of my playthroughs. I'd pick the herbs, and months later, they'd never be able to be picked again. IF you pay into it; there is so much more. 1000% worth it.
Man, this just reminded me how long its been since I first played this game. I remember the first time I killed Havelstein and Frostcrag wasn''t RIGHT there. It was because I only had the disc for the vanilla game. I was so pissed when I first played the DB questline after downloading Knights of the Nine, it made him so easy to find! Of course, I was completely infatuated with Frostcrag. Still my favorite Elder Scrolls player house to this day, and I went to town in Hearthfire.
@manyatruenerd Some folks prefer to travel in world instead of through fast travel for roleplaying reasons. So teleportation is a neat way to do so, but it ought to have been earned. (For example there are some magic spell mods in skyrim that add teleportations spells if you got like 80 alteration, which is far better for progression then a free tower imo.)
the wizards tower has a pretty good ring in the bedroom. also the alchemy lab has a special worktable that boost your alchemy skill while standing next to it. also also the summoning circle in the main floor lets you summon deadra permanently or until killed.
Hey Jon, if you're still in the market for a Skooma Dealer there's a couple of merchants you might want to look up! Shady Sam, just to the left of Chestnut Handy Stables outside the Imperial City and Nordinor, between The Fair Deal and Silverhome on the Water in Bravil. You can also find some in the locked barrell outside Myvryna Arano's shack at the Waterfront district in the Imperial City. It has respawning skooma, which is then transported each week by Oghash gra-Magul to a hollowed-out rock by Walker Camp in the Valus Mountains north of Cheydinhal!
So you put on the mask and become the Gray Fox...why would the crusader help you? You're not his hero the Divine Crusader! Y'know, the guy who told him to "wait here" earlier. Fun fact: If you've kept all the notes from the dead drops, you can see that after the second mission the icon changes for them.
Nice to see Jon finally realize some things the comments have been talking about for weeks/months (fortify speed on touch for horse, grey fox mask for murder)
Jon, you don't need to be unseen when removing the cowl. Just take it off. The guards will remain hostile initially, but just yield (block and try to talk) and they will stand down.
I know Jon considers himself the master of jumping, but if this series has demonstrated anything it's that his sandwich-making has made him the master of value-added product.
The Black Hand is four Speakers and a Listener, or four fingers and a thumb. But you've also been killing their Silencers, which is your current rank, which Lucien likened to the nails or claws of each finger. These are the personal agents of the Black Hand, as you are to Lucien.
I'm delighted that Jon is forever cursed having a spell called "Maglir Must Live" that he can't overwrite or get rid of (without mods). No no no, you simply take off the mask and yield to the guards so they leave you alone. It doesn't matter if they see you take it off or not. Also you can use the Crusader's relics again as if nothing happened since that wasn't a permanent increase of Infamy. Please visit Seridur in the Imperial City Temple District ASAP. It hurts every time you waste Vampire Dust in sandwiches.
My teenage self from 2009 has returned to inform you that not only is fortify speed going to work on your horse, water walking on touch will work as well ;)
there were many clues within the previous quests as to the true nature of the dead drops, the biggest clues were hidden in the houses of alval and j'ghasta, ungolims is disappointingly barren of anything, i had no clue on my first playthrough either
Jon, if I remember right, you can just talk to the person you are escorting and tell them to "wait here". That way they don't run ahead and cause problems.
I love how he thinks on how to deal with the guards when killing Ungolim when the orders from Lucien clearly say that he bribed the guards to not get involved in any fights.
Am I the only hamster here who gathers *everything* to sell? There's so many expensive items Jon just left lying out there, and here I am gathering everything that has a significantly better than 1:1 price to weight ratio. :)
Hey Jon, If you knock out Shadowmare you can store things inside of it for infinite storage. Kinda like a living suitcase that you have to fight everytime you want to open it.
The explanation Lachance gave makes sense. The people whom Jon has been killing were both Speakers and Silencers of the Black Hand, (except for Ungolim, who was the Dark Brotherhood's Listener) which means not all of them have been killed yet. Jon is Lachance's Silencer, which is why the remaining Black Hand members believe Lachance is the traitor; Jon was following what was supposed to be his orders.
lmao u figured out the horse speed buff XD Also I think the unofficial patch fixes this but u can loot shadowmere when they unconscious meaning you can deposit items into them like a mobile chest that you have to attack to access.
You can use the altar in Frostcrag Spire to summon a Atronach that doesn't have a time limit, also, try walking the mountains to the east from that tower, you might encounter a interesting enemy.
If you have any Infamy at all, you won't be able to use the relics. Choosing the 'bad' option in any question with such options gets you Infamy, as does being caught doing crimes, doing Daedric quests, Thieves' Guild quests, or Dark Brotherhood quests. Putting on the Gray Cowl I think temporarily gives you Infamy as well. You can find out if you have any Infamy by going to that stats tab you otherwise ignore.
Jon, My best advice for escort missions is to make a Target Other spell that heals over time with a long duration. Also I am sure most won't mind you getting a mod that makes Endurance retroactive.

Really should craft a spell for weakness to fire so that way your damage over time on your sword is way more effective, to the point where it will do more damage than your actual swing sword. Just cast the weakness spell, hit them with it, and if it's a real short duration, if you apply the fire damage before the effect wears off, the full damage over time gets the weakness effect still. So cast, swing, cast swing, and things will just melt.
Edit: Probably a good thing you used the Gray Cowl to kill that last target, cause otherwise if you'd killed him without the mask on while on the roof you'd have soft locked your game cause Lachance would have frozen you in place while he tried to get to you, but couldn't since you were on the roof.

Regarding the edit, that bug is fixed by the unofficial patch Jon has installed. Wearing the grey cowl had nothing to do with it
Jon found out he can cast Fortify Speed on his Horses, and boom, madness insues, but he still has yet to learn that all he needs to do to get the gaurds to stop fighting him after putting on the Cowl of the Grey Fox is to yeld to the gaurds with it off.
I was just shouting at the video "Just take off the damned cowl!" when he was circling around the house trying to flee the guards. He does not only need to learn when to remove the cowl but also how to yield to guards.
To be fair it's all but irrelevant now. The Dark Brotherhood questline is almost over and the last missions don't require killing people in towns, and I don't think there are many quests that involve murdering people or committing crimes besides the DB and Thieves guild questlines. Jon won't find much more use for the cowl unless he decides to go on broad daylight crimesprees just for giggles
I think you may need a spell that does the opposite of "hurry up you slow bastard" a "stop running ahead you stupid bastard" to make it harder for npc to run ahead of you.
That's hard because a burden or damage speed would been seen as assault. Though I know in Morrowind you could hit them with a very low strength levitation spell and they'd be slowed down without taking offense.
The Mage's Tower is amazing.
You have everything for enchanting and spell crafting, potion making. And you get a huge room to fill with melons or cheese (via duplication glitch).
Alternatively you can also cover Cyrodil in melons from the top of the tower. And then you can test aoe spells in the room with the melons and crash your PC.
Oh and we can't forget hurling followers off the mountain.
Good times were had in that tower.

Mages Guild fast travel portals are one of 4 methods of travel in Morrowind. Some people really hated the lack of any kind of realistic or lore-friendly travel that wasn’t just a loading screen, so the portal was a neat concession for the people who don’t like using FT

the black hand consists of one listener and 4 speakers each with a silencer. you've killed two speakers, two silencers and the listener. that means lucien (speaker), you (silencer) and another speaker and their silencer are left.
There's also presumably another silencer out there, who was working for the listener. But now that the listener is dead, and they communicated through dead drops, that silencer will be left hanging with no idea what happened.
pro tip for the episode, mix four ingredients into poisions. you can do mutiple types of damage with one poision.
I still love how Jon's main heal other spell is called Maglir must live, when his entire rhetoric over the last few episodes is Maglir must die
The magical doom tower was my favourite home.
The garden never refreshed in any of my playthroughs. I'd pick the herbs, and months later, they'd never be able to be picked again.

Man, this just reminded me how long its been since I first played this game. I remember the first time I killed Havelstein and Frostcrag wasn''t RIGHT there. It was because I only had the disc for the vanilla game. I was so pissed when I first played the DB questline after downloading Knights of the Nine, it made him so easy to find! Of course, I was completely infatuated with Frostcrag. Still my favorite Elder Scrolls player house to this day, and I went to town in Hearthfire.
@manyatruenerd Some folks prefer to travel in world instead of through fast travel for roleplaying reasons. So teleportation is a neat way to do so, but it ought to have been earned. (For example there are some magic spell mods in skyrim that add teleportations spells if you got like 80 alteration, which is far better for progression then a free tower imo.)
the wizards tower has a pretty good ring in the bedroom. also the alchemy lab has a special worktable that boost your alchemy skill while standing next to it. also also the summoning circle in the main floor lets you summon deadra permanently or until killed.
Hey Jon, if you're still in the market for a Skooma Dealer there's a couple of merchants you might want to look up! Shady Sam, just to the left of Chestnut Handy Stables outside the Imperial City and Nordinor, between The Fair Deal and Silverhome on the Water in Bravil.
You can also find some in the locked barrell outside Myvryna Arano's shack at the Waterfront district in the Imperial City. It has respawning skooma, which is then transported each week by Oghash gra-Magul to a hollowed-out rock by Walker Camp in the Valus Mountains north of Cheydinhal!

Fun fact: If you've kept all the notes from the dead drops, you can see that after the second mission the icon changes for them.

Jon, you don't need to be unseen when removing the cowl. Just take it off. The guards will remain hostile initially, but just yield (block and try to talk) and they will stand down.

I'm delighted that Jon is forever cursed having a spell called "Maglir Must Live" that he can't overwrite or get rid of (without mods).
No no no, you simply take off the mask and yield to the guards so they leave you alone. It doesn't matter if they see you take it off or not. Also you can use the Crusader's relics again as if nothing happened since that wasn't a permanent increase of Infamy.
Please visit Seridur in the Imperial City Temple District ASAP. It hurts every time you waste Vampire Dust in sandwiches.

there were many clues within the previous quests as to the true nature of the dead drops, the biggest clues were hidden in the houses of alval and j'ghasta, ungolims is disappointingly barren of anything, i had no clue on my first playthrough either
Jon, if I remember right, you can just talk to the person you are escorting and tell them to "wait here". That way they don't run ahead and cause problems.
I love how he thinks on how to deal with the guards when killing Ungolim when the orders from Lucien clearly say that he bribed the guards to not get involved in any fights.
But then they did anyway, probably because Jon had the cowl on

The explanation Lachance gave makes sense. The people whom Jon has been killing were both Speakers and Silencers of the Black Hand, (except for Ungolim, who was the Dark Brotherhood's Listener) which means not all of them have been killed yet. Jon is Lachance's Silencer, which is why the remaining Black Hand members believe Lachance is the traitor; Jon was following what was supposed to be his orders.

Also I think the unofficial patch fixes this but u can loot shadowmere when they unconscious meaning you can deposit items into them like a mobile chest that you have to attack to access.
You can use the altar in Frostcrag Spire to summon a Atronach that doesn't have a time limit, also, try walking the mountains to the east from that tower, you might encounter a interesting enemy.
Rocket Horse is hilarious and needs appropriate Benny Hill theme music.
If you have any Infamy at all, you won't be able to use the relics. Choosing the 'bad' option in any question with such options gets you Infamy, as does being caught doing crimes, doing Daedric quests, Thieves' Guild quests, or Dark Brotherhood quests. Putting on the Gray Cowl I think temporarily gives you Infamy as well. You can find out if you have any Infamy by going to that stats tab you otherwise ignore.

Jon, My best advice for escort missions is to make a Target Other spell that heals over time with a long duration.
Also I am sure most won't mind you getting a mod that makes Endurance retroactive.
A reminder Jon - if Mr. Bitey gets in a fight with someone that you'd rather not be dead, you can just summon another one and they'll stop fighting.
