  • We had some fun in the lab today building a battery powered rechargeable wireless pedal board using a Mission 529 USB power converter, Line 6 G10 wireless system, and a Pedaltrain Nano.

    I show my fiancé this video and tell her about the dual wireless units thing, and she goes “Ohh, you could wear it like a Batman utility belt. I need this sound ‘click’ and this one ‘click’ and walk around with it...” That’s genius! 😆

    This is really neat! I have one myself and I've though to get one more to plug into the output of the pedals so it will be untethered to the amp!!

    I think newer Line 6 wireless is even smaller (G10S)? This setup is superb for compact pedalboards!!

    This is the opposite of what I thought it would be. I thought you’d be able to put the pedalboard anywhere in the room 😃

      You can buy another wireless system, and reverse the process to be fully wireless. So receiver as pedalboard input, transmitter to guitar for the first system. Then receiver to amp, transmitter to pedalboard output for the second system. That method would make you fully wireless. I would suggest the sienhiesser option that has a built-in tuner so the first receiver it's not just taking up space on the pedal board as a box.

      @@DevilsAvocado69 You would need 2 high-end wireless systems for that, otherwise, the latency between the 2 systems would be too much

    • @DevilsAvocado69
      @DevilsAvocado69 Рік тому

      @joeseabreeze No, my freind does this with boss wl20s, adding more transmitters and receivers does nothing to the latency of the boss series I have seen it with my own eyes. You can connect upto 15 wireless devices to them no latency issues. Thats not particularly high end tech like the Shure stuff that requires a license.

    JAMES< I think most wireless systems will isolate the guitar ground to the pedalboard ground+power supply ground potential or amplifiers input jack ground potential. The wireless system is like lifting the guitars ground to be isolated or lifted ground? It should reduce the RF interferences and 60hz hum from the guitar amplifiers power transformer because when single coil pickups are close to the amplifier power transformers the 60hz hum its louder. When using wireless systems this should reduce the 60hz hum?

    Puedo conctar los pedales por el return del amp al lugar del input y tendre la misma respuesta que por el input?

    Is it also wireless from the effects to the amp's input? That would be ideal, no?

      Here I used a cable to go from the pedalboard to the amp. Most people don't care about running a single instrument cable between board and amp. If you do, you can use a second wireless system. The Line 6 Relay G10 I used would work for that.

    Hey james, what do you recommend for trying to power the line 6 HX effects by battery? I was going to buy the ionic audio usb converter but they've been out of stock for months. Any other suggestions?

    • @JamesLebihan
      @JamesLebihan  5 років тому +1

      I started looking into this a while ago. I have not fully profiled the HX Effects yet, but it looks like you would really need at least 3000mA which is more than USB 2 spec can handle. You would need something that supports the USB Power Delivery specification on USB C, which has a higher power capability. We are working on a possible future 529 like product that will support this. I don't know of any commercially available products that supports USB PD to 9V pedal power outputs that you can buy currently.

    • @adamhayman4648
      @adamhayman4648 5 років тому

      I've seen a few people using the Ionic Audio USB converter which had a max of 2,000mA and it worked perfectly over the span of months without any issues. There's even some photos on the HX effects facebook group page.

    • @JamesLebihan
      @JamesLebihan  5 років тому

      I'm sure it did, and I bet in most cases it would work just fine. The issue with drawing 2+ Amps from a lithium ion battery is the not the thousands of times that it works, it's the handful of times that it doesn't. Just ask Samsung. It's my hope that Mission will provide a power supply that will support the HX Effects at some point in the future, but there's a lot of safety requirements that I'm going to need to see taken care of before we do.

    is there a way to elimate the cable from the amp to pedal board to make it completely wireless?

    • @JamesLebihan
      @JamesLebihan  5 років тому

      Sure. You could use another wireless device such as a second G10 between the output from the last pedal on the pedalboard and into the amp in place of the cable.

    Recommendations as to how to affix the 529 underneath the Nano? Just the Velcro?

    • @JamesLebihan
      @JamesLebihan  5 років тому +1

      Velcro works fine. The 529 is much lighter than most conventional power supplies. I use a little hot glue if I'm not expecting to move it around very often.

  • @waitin4winter

    I would say this is more a wireless guitar. Wireless pedalboard would be if you're not running your pedalboard into your amp using a cable.

    • @JamesLebihan
      @JamesLebihan  5 років тому +1

      The main reason it's 'wireless' is the power supply enables all the pedals to be run from a rechargeable battery. AC cables and the cable from the guitar to the pedalboard are usually the most restricting cables that people want to remove. Most people don't have an issue running a single cable from the board to the amp. If that's a problem for you, you can just use a second Line 6 wireless adapter between the board and the amp.
