This was a big help! I changed my blower motor and resistor and fixed the problem. You saved me from dying in Houston heat. Really appreciate it. This would be a 5-10 minute fix…if you didn’t have to twist around upside down to get to the parts. But still not too hard.
While you were in there, did you notice the rubber flap thing just above where the cabin air filter goes? Mine has got a chunk torn off and I'm wondering what the purpose of this is but can't find any information whatsoever. I'm wondering if I ought to cover up the missing chunk to make sure there is full airflow. Whatever I do shouldn't get sucked in because it's on the positive pressure side of the blower. I'm just really curious if anyone knows the purpose of this rubber flap that goes horizontally across the blower case just above the cabin filter! Edit: You can see them here just above the cabin air filter hatch: ua-cam.com/video/aO0POyTwEpw/v-deo.html
@@ependergrass Hi Eric, I see what you're talking about. Rubber flap that sits within a grid above the filter housing. Mine is intact. As you said mostly positive airflow feeding the blower, but the fact that it's there must mean some negative flow now and again. Not sure if you'd notice much difference in the cabin air flow if you repaired, but might be worth fixing if you can come up with something.
@@genediegelman406 Thanks! I think it must be for when you close the door & the air has to rush out somewhere. Most cars I've seen have relief vents in the rear bumper, but maybe the Matrix needs one here for some reason as well. I think i can safely mostly ignore this :D Thanks!
@@ependergrass LOL 1 YEAR AGO.. I have the same problem too. did you happened to fix it..? mine was destroyed by some rodent,I don't know.. can I just cover it with some tpe or foil tape..?
@@altadz2047 I used a section of lovely black duct tape. Ideally it would still be able to move a bit like the flap, but only the edge of mine was torn off so I think I just covered it. I think this opens when either on or off of recirc mode so you don't want to cover the whole thing & have it be immovable. Cheers! Dang critters with easy access thru the air intake by passenger firewall under hood..
THANK YOU!!! (Edit: Got the part today and it took me maybe 15 mins. The only thing I’ve ever done myself to my car is put a spare tire on). Thanks for saving me $300 in Arizona’s summer!!
