I'm so honored to have been mentioned in the video!! Great work man, this was a fantastic watch. Loved the portion about community. I can only imagine how many friendships have been born from gaming, some of mine included. I've met a number of people in real life through gaming, I even dated one of them for a couple of years! It's crazy how much chance meeting like that can impact your entire life...
Honestly I have a bad problem with wanting to just play or read or watch everything that relates to something else and I end up stressing myself out over it. I got so tired of it and I ended up here and its refreshing to see a lot of people and there experience with entertainment. Honestly, we shouldn't stress out over something that is supposed to be fun and enjoyable.
I have this problem too. When ff7 remake was first coming out i decided to play the original and now i've played all but a couple of the main ff games, i've gone through and played all the resident evils, silent hills, metal gear solids, im currently going through gears of war, and splinter cell and there's a ton more i want to play and i kinda hate it because i want to finish these games so i can go back to replaying my favorite games without feeling like i wasted money on the other games 😂
@@jamesbarnett5157at least you can finish your games. Currently I plan on playing all the 3d Zelda games starting with ocarina of time and I’m about 1/3 through it and I almost pulled the trigger on buying another game to of course eventually drop and cycle repeats. Luckily I did the do it and I’m a bit more motivated to finish ocarina. I will finish a game for once in a long time!
I’ve been playing since 1989 when I 3 years old. And the biggest advice I could share is: Avoid the addiction of online only games (games as a service). Wasted 19 years playing dota/dota2/HoN/ Hots. So many great games I had to catch on now… the only true upside was meeting a friend from another city, which now we meet at least once a year. Still, not worth the dedication of almost 2 decades to so few games.
I think they can still be fun in moderation, just as long as you do just that: moderate. MMOs are obviously designed to keep you playing, though some say FF14 is the exception. The developers WANT you to take breaks from it and come back, which is. Nice sentiment.
@@Kranitokoproblem with moderation is these games are designed to create addictive patterns. So it's like trying to do a hard-core highly addictive drug.... In moderation lol. These companies are predatory. Many of them lol.
Recently quit Counterstrike for good. Best decision I made with video games. Now I’m coming back to more single player games. Currently enjoying Kingdom Come Deliverance. And I plan on getting Ghost of Tsushima when it comes out on PC.
@@InfinityReptar My new love in video game are FS souls like, perfect for single player, and amazing for pve and co-op, the balance of single and multiplayer to me.
Eh, the last time I still played video games regularly, there were so many games I wanted to play, but couldn't afford. Because of that, I'd much rather have the abundance of an endless stack of games that never runs out. Even thought it's giving me choice paralysis.
Playing on easier diff isnt even that faster in many games tbh, normal or above normal but not the hardest diff is optimal to fun/challenge/time imo, but no hate to you
The problem with this approach is that you limit yourself only to checking of a box. Your experience with the game may suffer from this. I tried it and it wasn't fun for me. I only wanted to reach the finish as fast as possible so i could check off this game and start a new one. This felt more of a chore than beeing fun.
My husband and I are both gamers and have an online friend from Russia who we became such good friends with we even streamed our wedding to him and it felt like he was there. We play D&D sessions over webcam etc too. Definitely can say these kinds of friendships are very real and do matter.
Depends on your definition of friends. How many of them would give you their sofa if you lost your home? How many would lend you a thousand quid to pay your rent? How many would help you in a fight? The answers to those questions could see your perceived number of friends drop significantly. Most people don't even have two or three real friends. People who play games online as their only connection, are not real friends. They are gaming associates.
@@Mal_Freeman0451 I totally agree with this take, however I noticed that for example americans tend to call a lot of people their friends, while for example in my country, we usually reserve it for truly close relationships with whom we'd whether the apocalypse. This is a cultural and individual thing, where someone perceives gaming buddies as friends, who they might've never even met in real life.
@@Mal_Freeman0451 never said my online friends were gaming friends! And yes we’ve visited each others houses, helped out when people needed it. We’re a community, and we’ve been through loss, plus celebrated the good things over the twenty years since I joined. I “talk” to them every day. I’ve been made welcome in foreign countries by online people arranging to meet up for a coffee when I was visiting. Online friends can run the spectrum from associate to close friend just as real life people do.
same for me! It takes TOOOO much practice to become good and to become great you have to put in more time than the rest (that is not worth my time) Plus I am not going to spend that much money for Sony to allow me to play online with PS plus and like you i am now happier No insults or getting trolled or disrespected by strangers online
It's true when you grow up and you get a job, your time get's shorter, more responsibilities come, that may lead to you stop gaming at all. In my experience, and the thing I'm currently facing is that I want to play a lot of games, games that are very good, but the problem is - I don't have time - our even if have time, I just can't stay 5 hours playing a game. Mainly because the only time I have is in the end of the day, at night. The thing is, I'm tired of work and I can't stay until very late in the night, because I like to wake up very early to go to the gym, and then work. So, I'm now playing Skyrim for the first time ever, and it's been amazing, the game is indeed solid and until now, one of the best games I ever played. But, again I can't play it for long hours, so you can imagine how much time will take me, just to beat the game completely. Plus, I already have other games that I want to play, but I hate to play different games at the same time, so I have to wait and finish what I started. Also, I do not want to play games like "Elden Ring", because of the reason you said in the video, I just can't get frustrated after a day of work. It would make me feel more tired and probably angry for dying too many times. At the end of the day, time may be the issue of all things.
I just can't express how much I can relate to your comment. I totally got what you say and if I can share what works for me is .... just play without never letting you feel bad about it, because life changes and the big difference since I was a child is that back then I could play hours and get frustrated and challenged, but now days I just want to chill and enjoy some feeling of being powerful or any other good sensation while playing games. Anyways, keep playing games, but mostly just whenever you can.
I’m currently injured from my sport which has left me a lot of free time and I find myself just staring at a library screen for hours organising folders just to re organise them 10 minutes later whereas when I didn’t have so much time I would just hop on a game without other thinking and just straight up enjoy it.
yeah i tend to turn on my xbox cant decide what to play and end up jus sitting in my chair for hours watchin youtube and not play anything with my xbox just on then it says its gonna turn off in 5 mins and i move the joystick real quick to still play nothing 😂
I've been a bit of a hermit gamer lately. I haven't had any online friends in a few years now and it's been getting pretty lonely. Cheers for another eye opening video mate 😁
i'm currently enrolled in college, have a job, and have a girlfriend. and while i'm grateful for all this i'm lucky if i get an hour or two maybe twice a week to play games, and it's even worse that i'm a completionist that has to go for the platinum on every game i play which makes this video so much more relatable
While most of the internet is filled with things that incite to anger and negativity nowadays, I feel like there's a trend that started, and that this video follows - which is positivity and acceptance. Saying "it's ok" in situations in which you don't have any control is the correct and healthy thing to do. It was never as easy as it is today for people to connect, and closed doors somewhere can open different ones elsewhere. Great content, and very healthy thinking, dude! There's a Romanian saying "We have only one life and only one hole in our ass". It is a vulgar way of saying "enjoy the moment, you'll die anyway".
I have the same problem, I end up just buying games I've always wanted to play. Only just to keep them in my library for "just in case" times I wanted to play but never play them. I think it's just exciting for me to grow my catalog for when I get older I can enjoy it like it was the first time playing.
This is why some games, I watch no-commentary gameplay of the whole game. The videos skip failed attempts and you get a solid walkthrough of the whole game.
i find a balance between playing the games i want to really really play and watching play throughs of games im slightly interested in but dont want to get
The part about communities is beautiful. I'm so thankful that I had friends and a brother that shared gaming as a hobby growing up. To me, gaming has always been a social hobby. Even single player games count since I discuss them with friends, recommend them and so on. On the one hand I realize I am lucky. On the other, it also takes a bit of active initiative to look for like minded people. I was always among the most hardcore player among my friend groups and most of them took it more casually or simply outgrew the hobby over time. Still talk to them to this day because we find other commons grounds. However, I've also had friends completely ghost me after 2 something decades worth of friendship and I still didn't drop hobbies for the sake of meeting new people; instead I found new friends even if it was lonely at times. I like to think the "online friends don't count" thing is not literal but a call that you do need in person interactions and that you need a social circle irl as well. You can have meaningful online friendships (I mean, I've attended weddings of people I first met online) and that isn't mutually exclusive with socializing irl in the means you have available at least. Although if I had lived in a remote area I would probably be saying otherwise. I am projecting from my own life experiences after all. Great essay.
I love this video because it resonates with a lot of what I've been contemplating lately. Very long story short, I used to play a lot of competitive multiplayer games in my 20s and was OBSESSED with getting the top rank and I was able to in the games I hyperfocused on. But now I'm in my thirties and just don't have as much patience to git gud at many games anymore. It really has become a question of whether it was worth the trouble anymore and for a lot of games it's like yeah...I'm glad it exists and people enjoy it, but I just can't sink the kind of time into them like I used to. And that I should only stick to games that don't have too much of a punishing learning curve and actually pique my interest more profoundly.
I learned from someone at work that you shouldn't be afraid to ask if someone, maybe at work or school etc, plays video games. The people you think don't, probably do.
I want to share my story with gaming. I was a gamer since a childhood. 90% of my gaming were either co-op or playing online competitive games. After that I've felt that there's a ton of awesome and deep games, and this playstyle leaves me focused only on several ones. I've decided to list and play all the games that intrigued me, the games that had a crittical acclaim. Mostly my focus switched to single player experience, because you can finish the games, or drop it without arguing with teammates. Now I have over 350 games finished and more than a thousand waiting for their time. I've made a table in notion, review and score games for myself. I've enjoyed this life style. At one hand it made me appreciate different genres, it gave me feel of Meta Progress - I'm not just playing around but collect and complete important games. On other hand it is kinda fake, and sometimes it takes silliness and fun from the process, sometimes gives me feeling of needing to complete the list. Sometimes I feel that the table of games is more fun for me than gaming itself. I'm trying to have balance here. From my experience it is better to drop games that doesn't awe you, that aren't impressive. It is far better to replay the games that feels right, than try to complete underwhelming ones. My reviews help me remember games I've played, so it was a positive experience. P.S. Guys you can write me and we can complete some games together! Europe\Asia is a preferred region.
I had a period of time where I bought lots of games because they were on sale and I figured I'd be interested in trying them, now I realize that I don't have the time to finish even half of them. Plus, when I've enjoyed a game, sometimes I wanna play NG+ which takes more time from the backlog. So now I really have to embrace the sunk cost idea and be discretionary on what I devote my time to and what I buy in the future
I'm hooked from "you can't play everything" that just randomly popped today on my main YT. Gotta say man, real quality material you puttin out lately, keep it up, u got my sub brov ;)
MY humble sugestion for the next video. HOW to maximize your time playing video games, HOW to select what you should/want/can play, how to organize yourself and how to avoid FOMO from new releases. the companys will hate you
Yup! Community is where it's all at and what gaming is all about. If there is anything anyone should learn from this video is to go out there, find and join a gaming community. Community has made a big difference in my life, and it is where I spend most of my time gaming now adays.
Being a gamer is tough, especially since I’m already a dad. It’s very hard to play a game when you have a family with kids. I always find myself unable to finish a game, and there are times when I’ve just opened the computer, only to have my wife or kid need me to do something much more important. I get frustrated at times, but at the end of the day, it’s just a game. I always think that the only people who can really play most games and spend thousands of hours on them are those who play games for a living, like streamers or UA-cam content creators. Not everyone can become a UA-camr or Twitch streamer. And when there is a chance to play a game I’ve been wanting to play, I sometimes realize that the game just isn’t for me. If the game is too time-consuming, I end up not playing it. There are also games that aren’t worth playing, and I’d rather watch gameplay from others on UA-cam. I’m not sad that I can’t play whenever I want to most of the time; I’ve just accepted that I cannot play everything.
For some reason this video is much more calming. I feel like You've wanted to show bright side of your previous video. It's not like it will magically fix anything for those who shared sad stories, but it's good to let know some people that even if they're alone in that particular moment it doesn't mean they will be forever that way and it's alright to have a different hobby like video games, which can teach You a lot. This video probably can sooth FOMO.
Ive also made friends purely through online gaming but they never ended peacefully, I think if you make an online friend and have a fear that if you stop playing that game, they will leave you. Don't Worry, people playing physical sports have that fear too. They have a fear if they stop playing basketball that their friends wont talk to them anymore. If you have this worry just knows its okay to lose a few gaming friends, if even one of them sticks by you then at the end of the day you made a real connection playing a game you both liked, and I think that's something to be treasured
i was fascinated by Initial D its the First Game where i get out of my comfort zone, Where i have to learn how to drive and drift in sim Games Like asseto Corsa and its satisfying after a few months
Honestly I wish companies showed interest in preserving older games they made back then, since that will allow us to preserve aspect of gaming history well also allowing the next generation to play them if they’re ever curious or if you don’t have the console to play them.🐱
Daunting is having installed The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the sky 1 and knowning that there are 11 games after it, all conected between them and all at least 60 hours to beat each.
Im in high school now and i just realized i have more time now than i will have in the next 50 years so im trying to overcome my addiction to league of legends and trying to play other games as i did earlier, i stumbled upon 2000s games and i really liked the aesthetics of them im currently playing nfs most wanted 2005 and im loving it, the one problem i see is lack of games i can play with my friends that arent just set for grinding and spending long hours doing repetitive things i can see it clearly that now when i sit on discord with my friends we dont really have a plan on what to play so we all just sit together and play singleplayer games even if a game is released it quickly loses player base or gets sinked in micropayments and other curses of modern gaming, i just wish i could experience what was it like 10 years ago or so.
That's big of you for trying to overcome the multiplayer gaming addiction early in life, good job homie. I'm almost 22 and wrapping up a college degree, and ive wasted thousands of hours being unhappy on apex and fortnite. Try to find single player games that compliment your life. For example, i got heavily into bloodborne for awhile cuz the challenging combat forced me to strategize and actively improve rather than just mindlessly plugging hours into random open world fetch quests. As far as good games to play with ur friends, ive found PvE to be much healthier than PvP. Look for old cod games to go on sale and buy those together. Cod Ghosts recently went on sale for playstation w full dlc included, and it's got a great alien horde mode that's fun to strategize with friends on. Lego Fortnite is also a great free one to play with friends, they have a cool star wars event
@@jckfrost36 Thanks for your reply and i have to say that i was a Fortnite player too but happily back in the day when i was really enjoying it with my friends as we were 12-13 at the time when fortnite had something that it is lacking now i guess it lost its personality and tried to become something it was never meant to be. Apex took about 200hours of my life just trying to sweat and learn some stupid mechanics that would just frustrate me more. As of now im enjoying Assasin's Creed franchise because i never really played the older games of the series and its amazing. In my short experience of gaming i have played so many different games and some of them i completed multiple times like GTA 5, RDR2 or Uncharted. Some of the games built my personality and taught me a lot about life thats why i will continue to play as long as i can because in my opinion playing a game is a life changing experience that everyone creates by himself which makes it so special. But there was also a time that i would sink into Valorant or LoL and just waste my energy on these games mindlessly looking for entertainment in something that drains me. Only pvp game that i dont regret playing for a 1000hours as of now is Rust. It created some of my best memories with my friends despite of it being one of the hardest and ungrateful games out there I will try out the CoD Ghosts as you say i tried CoD games in the past i played the original modern warfare 1,2,3 which were amazing and i was planning on playing black ops games. I spent 20 minutes writing this comment and i am not a very good english language user so i am sorry for any mistakes.
I think trilogies is a fine place to stop for most games, or else I couldn’t do anything then play the same games over & over again. Cause I like to have the back story of past games in the series and with game development being longer and longer in some cases there is a lot of games to replay.
Another fantastic video! I don't have much to say here (except all the things regarding difficulty settings, but a diatribe of such girth would surely crash UA-cam's servers). I play with friends almost nightly. Most I know IRL, but some I've never met and have known for years and years. Thanks for reminding me how fortunate I am to have the people, games and (somehow) time to enjoy this so frequently.
I don't really write comments under videos but for this one I feel like I have to. Man, honestly with those 2 videos you have touched my heart, you have given me, if you'll excuse me "us", a different prespective of video games. My friend had gotten me for my birthday elden ring but I never really found the mood to play it. But you made me realise maybe that's just not for me. Anyway, keep it up your videos are great with sensible humor and cover a different point of view that many of us have never really thought of. Thank you for providing us with such content and I hope you will live up to be 100 years old my guy! And also you have earned yourself another subscriber.
I’ve met my current girlfriend through discord and we connected over pokemon games, and what I severely lacked in irl friends in my childhood, online friends made up for so I could keep going, so I wouldn’t drown in my own loneliness at some point. So yeah, online friends are definitely as valuable as the ‘real deal’. Wouldn’t be here without them.
Finally someone noticed 😭 In the edit as well, I didn't realise until after that when I said "this was a lie", the English lyrics in the song is "was a lie" 😂
Saw this video on my recommended, glad I watched it! Great job! For me personally, I like to try and explore and get the most out of a game, and at my own pace. When it comes to the GAAS games, when I briefly played some of them I felt overwhelmed and stressed, I want to keep up with it all and it's just not possible. I'm the kind of person that hates seeing unread emails for instance lol. When something is time-limited like an event, I'm not gonna do anything like that unless a group of friends want to give it a go and I have the time.
Found myself relating a lot to this video. Especially the parts about needing to start a series from the beginning and trying to find communities for specific types of games. I’ve never met anyone who played, let alone even knew much about games like the trails series or rune factory but those are some of my favorites. Online communities are cool but there’s something about a face to face interaction. Also glad to see the clock again. We are close in age so seeing a rough timeline of how much life is left messed with me for a day lol.
While I enjoyed WoW last year (because I'm a sweaty little grind junkie) in terms of 'get good or get out' it's definitely worse than you remember. I got the impression from classic players that it carried over to classic too. Thanks for the video
Having my first serious girlfriend at the age of 32 I find myself at a weird crossroads. On the one hand I enjoyed 5-6 hour gaming sessions, getting lost in different worlds, being someone else, but it was only because my own life was admittedly mundane. Now I have someone to care about and do things with, yet I still yearn for those long play sessions. (she's not a gamer either, can't win 'em all)
*Partial Solution*: WATCH walkthroughs of games on 2x playback speed. Still can’t watch (or play) every game, but will definitely save time, money, and energy.
A very thoughtful video. I'm lucky enough that through work i found some close friends into gaming :) i also want to point out when if you are a total gamer maybe the love of your life isn't. That's okay. She sometimes plays with me and i know it's because she loves me not because she loves video games. I just wish i was better at supporting her hobbies too. But life often is also a game where it is all about managing your limited time (especially with jobs and kids) and interests, and even your needs
During the Pandemic i loaded up on a ridiculous amount of games. I couldnt resist the epic store discounts lol. Im finally being proactive about playing them. Wish me luck 🤞
When I think about my gaming backlog I feel like quitting. Concentrate my time on something a little more worthwhile. After all, virginities don’t lose themselves now do they.
My strategy is, I buy cheap games at 90% sales on steam. On seasonal sales. I mostly buy open world games/ multiplayer games/ survival games. 💀 Instead of buying story games i would rather watch gameplays. Like, god of war 2018 and Ragnarok, horizon series. My wish list right now. ............................. Stalker 2 (I'm a huge fan of the series) Black myth wukong Light no fire Witcher 4 Gta 6 Pioner Blight survival. It's like 2 to 3 years worth of content. Genshin impact in consideration would give me around 2 more years. 💀 And i have around 50 game that I've bought on sale is still in my steam inventory/library. And I've claimed so much epic free games. (Haven't played any of those.) 😅 I do not really have time to play all that. ......... Next video suggestions:- Ur inventory is full of games but has no time to play all that.
I personally would never differ to UA-cam to get through a game or even portion of it. Am a passionate gamer myself but I let everyone have their own experiences.
struggled with this problem for soooo long especially as a completionist had to really sit down & decide which games mean the most to me - soulsborne baby
I've met multiple of my online only friends and they definitely are real friends. The argument that just because they come from online doesn't hold any weight at all.
I met my best friends online and i went to one of their weddings and was one of the groomsmen along side him. I also met my girlfriend now of 3 years gaming and we live together happy with 2 cats 🙂 I plan on proposing soon when shes done with college
My main 3 rules to maximize the amount of games I complete are: 1- Don't worry about trophies or achievements 2- Avoid playing online games or games as a service 3- Stop playing a game if I don't like it and move on These 3 rules have helped beat a *ton* of games, and since I have a Modded Switch and a PS5 with PS Plus Premium I can't afford to waste time
It’s soooo hard for me to do #1. I used to try and get as many as I could and stress if I couldn’t get more. Now I just naturally get them as I play and then I move on. I don’t dwell on them much anymore but it’s been hard since it was sorta part of the fun
I haven't been able to do it but the best idea I have is, choose ONE system to play on and play only that. Biggest difference gaming as an adult, I have every system and multiple consoles I can play anything and everything in, it's too OVERWHELMING
Great insight video... (also Elden Ring deserved GOTY as you said it's beginners friendly) Also I wished I had more friends to play different games (open minded to try) and my cousins/friends had interest in other genre games too.
19:27 omg?! i watched Gronkh from where i was 8-9 and im 22 now. I porobaly wathed him everyday til 17. Seeing him in an english video is insane to me. Hes such a wholehearted persoon with a massive wholesome community
Fellow mancunian! Couch co-op it takes two def deserved GOTY. Trying to empty out my backlog ended up with me removing over half of it as it was just too many games and honestly it's a great feeling to have all that weight lifted
I have a problem of wanting to play SEVERAL games just sitting in my steam library, but then I don't play any of them or start them, stop halfway through and then just replay a souls game for the 5th time instead.
i had a online buddy i talked to like a best real life friend. we parted ways for some time and i reached out again, we continued where we left off. at one point he invited me over for a business opportunity, long story short, i moved 12 years ago and we still going and back then i really had to get out of where i was. very rare, but dismissing online is always fake is certainly not true all the time. got to be careful though as its a lottery
Ah, finally, the sequel, love me some video essays. Can relate to wanting to know all references when it comes to getting into new franchises, sometimes i look up chronological order of games and play them that way instead of playing in release order too(though that can bite in the backside with series like kiseki(trails) and the like). As for people caring about how much dps and healing people do in raids? Yes, it's very much around, it always will be as long as tryhards and people that care about metas are around, MMOS are just like that. 19:16 Eh, i see nothing wrong with playing online games mindlessly, unless it's competitive coop game, anyway, sometimes it's good to just let the brain relax and have dopamine flow.
Cant tell you how many games ive played 70 percent of a game and just stop and never finish it or games I want to play but just never end up buying, and most of them are the big triple a games
I did a list of unfinished games, then I tried to be playing maximum 3 games at a month, stick to the schedule and you'll be filling the list in no time.
It Takes Two wholly deserved the GOTY award and I really hope you find someone to complete it with some day, it's worth every second, and the time taken to play it. I couldn't agree more with your sentiments around the FromSoftware games, there's something to be said about accessibility in gaming, but the Soulsborne franchise is just for a certain crowd. Though I believe all those that want to experience the games but don't have the skill set, ability, or patience to get through them could get something from being an audience member to someone else playing. Online or otherwise, they on't get the same sense of achievement, but they'll have someone to root for and cheer on. So they'll get that same dopamine hit whenever the player they're watching overcomes their adversities. Also I'm currently playing through DS3 for the first time, Demon's Souls will be next and will... however sadly, be my last FromSoftware game after proving to myself I could manage them with Elden Ring back when it came out. I still can't believe I conquered Sekiro, man... what a game! Also the "It's Okay" video is great, I watched that myself a few weeks ago. I'm always being recommended Videogame Essays... I follow so many essayists. Daryl Talkes Games, Razbuten, Adam Millard, Writing on Games, barelyfanatical, filmotter, mhswoocer, Perfect Game Quest, and most recently... yourself 😁 Everyone has something to say, I find it so fascinating hearing so many thoughts and views, all of which I can resonate with or that change my own point of view for the better. The only downside being, my backlog grows, so... thank you for making me want to play a number of 30-40+ hour games just that bit more with just this one video 😂
I hope so too to your first point ☺️ When you say Demon's Souls is your last, I assume it's because you've now beaten them all? And yes, Sekiro is such a wild challenge; genuinely tempted to go back to that game some day! I follow Daryl but none of the others so I'll have to check them out ☺️ thank you for being a new follower!
@@Kranitoko yes Demon's Souls will be my last to beat, my order has been; Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Sekiro, DS1, DS2, and now I'm nearing the end of DS3. Absolutely incredible games!
Ah It Takes Two. I stated playing it when my ex and I just started dating. We became official right around when we beat the game. She is no longer in my life but I will forever treasure the memories.
My problem with Yakuza is they’re just too damn long. Yakuza 0 was perfect because it was a prequel, was the best in the franchise and it just felt like this awesome crime syndicate soap opera - and it was incredible. I rushed through Kiwami 1 and 2, got burned out on LaD and didn’t play any more games because I was so overwhelmed by how many of them they were, and they were full fledged RPGs too. But Yakuza 0 - I could honestly go back and replay that due to how self contained it feels. SO good.
I relate to that commitment thing really hard. Couple months ago I sat down to understand the entire final fantasy franchise and all the main and spin off games. I started from the very first game, it was PR version. Didn't use magic the entire game now I'm stuck in the last final boss, and have given up on the entire franchise, even though the later games which are 3d open worlds are something I dig a lot, I just want to understand every small references made in the those games lol
I got far into It Takes Two with my partner, but then we broke up lmao. Time passed and now I’m having the best time playing the game with my brother. It’s taking us a while because it’s hard to find the time but it’s been awesome. I also have not finished Super Mario Bros Wonder because I played the New SMB series with my brother and friends growing up, so I promised them I would not continue the game without them. It’s definitely taking us a while but it’s worth it.
When I was a kid, I was fine playing Sunshine and Wind Waker repeatedly, doing the same things on multiple playthroughs. Now I dread NG+ on games, I haven't even touched Dark Souls once I finished it and don't feel ready to go back.
The problem with Souls games (for me) is not that they are hard, but rather that the "dying and learning each time" takes a lot of dedication and putting your free time through the week only on this game for god knows how long. Most of us can only play for a couple of hours over the weekend. This comes from a person who used to be a dedicated competitive player, although I have stopped now and prefer to enjoy narrative story games, and from time to time play couple online games with friends when the time allows it. great video anyways !
idk if anyone will ever see this but ive played fps/online games forever since i was a kid (cod, halo, r6) and ive dumped hours into them and while i actually did make money off the games from being a "semi-pro" it was really exhausting and wasnt very fun a lot of the time. as of now i barely play any online games if any and have switched to mainly story mode type games and have enjoyed most of what i played, ive recently found it hard to actually play the games i want to and even harder to follow through and complete them, recently ive started to "force" myself to play for 30+ minutes everyday to help myself, and i actually have stuck with it most days and while it doesnt sound good to "force" myself, 99% of the time i actually end up enjoying the time ive played and play for like 2 hours jus getting lost in the game and everything, while maybe i should take a break and come back when i want to, its hard for me bc gaming is my biggest hobby and i kinda jus wanna finish the few games i do have left and then take a break for awhile perhaps, i jus have a weird urge to beat the games in my library sm.
So many new games bought only to stop playing halfway through and most of the time I watch UA-cam while playing Slay The Spire on the phone. I should probably hold off on buying a new game and let the "new game phase" pass.
I think I've just naturally started filtering out games that aren't worth the time. Over the years I've stopped playing MMOs, JRPGs, and long-term strategy and building games. There are too many games that are such time sinks with very little payoff. Another aspect of that is when the games I want to play have such a high skill ceiling, that it takes me weeks of retraining my muscle memory of the game in order to catch up to where I left off. That's when the dread sets in of, "Oh, if I'm going to play this game, I have to really play it and give it my all." And most of the time, I just don't have the energy for that anymore.
I am a Brazilian in a Journey to Beat 10k Games on live, i started not that long ago, and in this Monday i will start the game 10/10000+ Skyrim, i started this in the hope of rise money to fix my health, study , fix my home maybe, a couple of year ago, i start something similar i would Beat 2k game in 5 years,i beat 194 in 5 months, and working, but my mother passed away and this made my life that never was easy, even harder, for years a put my life aside to take care of her, and now i was alone, a lot of good and bad things happened since. And I started over to make live e now with no time limit and i started to look for games to add to that list, and to be honest after i look up for every generetion, is hard to get to even 10k with games that are a little bit interesting at least, so i know that i can´t play every game ever, but i am pretty sure, i can play every game that i want to realy play, even bad ones haha.
That's... A lot of games. I'm in my 30's and I don't think I've even played more than 1000 video games across my lifetime, so 10,000 is a wild goal, but good luck to you!
Nowadays I buy games I want even though I know I haven't finished the ones I bought before. I buy them, set them aside, think about them but I always try to finish the game I began first because I know I will never play the games afterward. It's sometimes quite hard but I tend to avoid the hype train now and just say "oh this game WILL be interesting after I finish this one or at least try to".
I'm so honored to have been mentioned in the video!!
Great work man, this was a fantastic watch. Loved the portion about community. I can only imagine how many friendships have been born from gaming, some of mine included.

And the biggest advice I could share is:
Avoid the addiction of online only games (games as a service).
Half my free time for games is looking at my library and deciding what I'm in the mood for.
And sometimes not playing anything after staring at the library :(

This is why I play some games on easier difficulties. Just so I can finish them faster and move onto something else on my ever growing backlog.
Same
Playing on easier diff isnt even that faster in many games tbh, normal or above normal but not the hardest diff is optimal to fun/challenge/time imo, but no hate to you
The problem with this approach is that you limit yourself only to checking of a box.
100%!
I’ve been friends with some of my online friends for 20 years. They are friends. Just ones I rarely see face to face.

Weirdly relatable. I have so much time and never enjoy it
yeah i tend to turn on my xbox cant decide what to play and end up jus sitting in my chair for hours watchin youtube and not play anything with my xbox just on then it says its gonna turn off in 5 mins and i move the joystick real quick to still play nothing 😂
We all lead the same lives haha
Of course a nice saying from the Balkans has a vulgar part :D I'll remember this one
See I personally prefer a commentary as I simply hate dead air 😅
i find a balance between playing the games i want to really really play and watching play throughs of games im slightly interested in but dont want to get
The part about communities is beautiful.
In the end, sometimes less is more.
I'm hooked from "you can't play everything" that just randomly popped today on my main YT. Gotta say man, real quality material you puttin out lately, keep it up, u got my sub brov ;)

Yup! Community is where it's all at and what gaming is all about. If there is anything anyone should learn from this video is to go out there, find and join a gaming community. Community has made a big difference in my life, and it is where I spend most of my time gaming now adays.

I played It Takes Two with a friend. We both wanted to play it and weren't forcing each other.
Pov: you're watching this instead of playing that game you wanna play
Literally me right now
For some reason this video is much more calming.
Perfectly balanced, as all things should be 😅
Ive also made friends purely through online gaming but they never ended peacefully, I think if you make an online friend and have a fear that if you stop playing that game, they will leave you.

Thanks for your reply and i have to say that i was a Fortnite player too but happily back in the day when i was really enjoying it with my friends as we were 12-13 at the time when fortnite had something that it is lacking now i guess it lost its personality and tried to become something it was never meant to be.
It created some of my best memories with my friends despite of it being one of the hardest and ungrateful games out there
I will try out the CoD Ghosts as you say i tried CoD games in the past i played the original modern warfare 1,2,3 which were amazing and i was planning on playing black ops games.

I think trilogies is a fine place to stop for most games, or else I couldn’t do anything then play the same games over & over again. Cause I like to have the back story of past games in the series and with game development being longer and longer in some cases there is a lot of games to replay.

Man thank you for helping me realize all I need is a good gaming buddy
Having my first serious girlfriend at the age of 32 I find myself at a weird crossroads.
On the one hand I enjoyed 5-6 hour gaming sessions, getting lost in different worlds, being someone else, but it was only because my own life was admittedly mundane. Now I have someone to care about and do things with, yet I still yearn for those long play sessions.

Great video, unforgettable. Many people in real life are not real friends. It's hard to find them anyway.

💀 And i have around 50 game that I've bought on sale is still in my steam inventory/library.
And I've claimed so much epic free games. (Haven't played any of those.)
😅 I do not really have time to play all that.
.........
Next video suggestions:-
Ur inventory is full of games but has no time to play all that.
I personally would never differ to UA-cam to get through a game or even portion of it. Am a passionate gamer myself but I let everyone have their own experiences.
I needed this. I'm currently there. It's not fun.. it's like I'm locked up
struggled with this problem for soooo long especially as a completionist had to really sit down & decide which games mean the most to me - soulsborne baby
Another one! Lets goooo! Cant wait to hear what more you have to say on this topic 😁
I've met multiple of my online only friends and they definitely are real friends. The argument that just because they come from online doesn't hold any weight at all.
I have like 30 games on wishlist and end up adding more idk what to do
I met my best friends online and i went to one of their weddings and was one of the groomsmen along side him.
I also met my girlfriend now of 3 years gaming and we live together happy with 2 cats 🙂 I plan on proposing soon when shes done with college
Good luck!! I hope she says yes 🥰
My main 3 rules to maximize the amount of games I complete are:
1- Don't worry about trophies or achievements
2- Avoid playing online games or games as a service
3- Stop playing a game if I don't like it and move on
These 3 rules have helped beat a *ton* of games, and since I have a Modded Switch and a PS5 with PS Plus Premium I can't afford to waste time
It’s soooo hard for me to do #1.
(also Elden Ring deserved GOTY as you said it's beginners friendly)
Also I wished I had more friends to play different games (open minded to try) and my cousins/friends had interest in other genre games too.
Very good, very inspiring Video! Love the style of you, talking games! 👍🏻
19:27 omg?! i watched Gronkh from where i was 8-9 and im 22 now. I porobaly wathed him everyday til 17. Seeing him in an english video is insane to me. Hes such a wholehearted persoon with a massive wholesome community
I snuck him in there cause he reacted to my "You Can't Play Everything" video 😊
I think at the moment I watch more videos about videogames than I actually play... energy and mental health are important. :
I played it takes two with my cousin and it absolutely deserved GOTY. We had so much fun and definitely enjoyed our time
Fellow mancunian!
As someone who's finishes it takes two twice it absolutely deserved to win game of the year the game is an absolute masterpiece.
i had a online buddy i talked to like a best real life friend. we parted ways for some time and i reached out again, we continued where we left off. at one point he invited me over for a business opportunity, long story short, i moved 12 years ago and we still going and back then i really had to get out of where i was. very rare, but dismissing online is always fake is certainly not true all the time. got to be careful though as its a lottery
Lol thanks for the "i have friends" song, added it on spotify
Daryl Talkes Games, Razbuten, Adam Millard, Writing on Games, barelyfanatical, filmotter, mhswoocer, Perfect Game Quest, and most recently... yourself 😁
Everyone has something to say, I find it so fascinating hearing so many thoughts and views, all of which I can resonate with or that change my own point of view for the better. The only downside being, my backlog grows, so... thank you for making me want to play a number of 30-40+ hour games just that bit more with just this one video 😂
I hope so too to your first point ☺️
When you say Demon's Souls is your last, I assume it's because you've now beaten them all? And yes, Sekiro is such a wild challenge; genuinely tempted to go back to that game some day! I follow Daryl but none of the others so I'll have to check them out ☺️ thank you for being a new follower!
@@Kranitoko yes Demon's Souls will be my last to beat, my order has been; Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Sekiro, DS1, DS2, and now I'm nearing the end of DS3. Absolutely incredible games!
@@PinchedSlinky I thought you were gonna stop playing FromSoft games. AC 6 is awesome too.
SO good.
I hope you did at least play Majimas Saga in Kiwami 2 since it carries on the Yakuza 0 story 😅
I tried to make a master list of backlog/wishlist stuff and basically the list might as well be all of gaming fml
Damn the ending hit hard, amazing video!
idk if anyone will ever see this but ive played fps/online games forever since i was a kid (cod, halo, r6) and ive dumped hours into them and while i actually did make money off the games from being a "semi-pro" it was really exhausting and wasnt very fun a lot of the time. as of now i barely play any online games if any and have switched to mainly story mode type games and have enjoyed most of what i played, ive recently found it hard to actually play the games i want to and even harder to follow through and complete them, recently ive started to "force" myself to play for 30+ minutes everyday to help myself, and i actually have stuck with it most days and while it doesnt sound good to "force" myself, 99% of the time i actually end up enjoying the time ive played and play for like 2 hours jus getting lost in the game and everything, while maybe i should take a break and come back when i want to, its hard for me bc gaming is my biggest hobby and i kinda jus wanna finish the few games i do have left and then take a break for awhile perhaps, i jus have a weird urge to beat the games in my library sm.
So many new games bought only to stop playing halfway through and most of the time I watch UA-cam while playing Slay The Spire on the phone. I should probably hold off on buying a new game and let the "new game phase" pass.
I tend to speed through every game so I can get to the next thing and end up not enjoying my time
Oh yes the Paladin to Gladiator ascension.
That's... a noble goal. Any roguelikes you plan on beating?
Nowadays I buy games I want even though I know I haven't finished the ones I bought before. I buy them, set them aside, think about them but I always try to finish the game I began first because I know I will never play the games afterward. It's sometimes quite hard but I tend to avoid the hype train now and just say "oh this game WILL be interesting after I finish this one or at least try to".
I've got 15 games in my backlog that I've yet to play. It's a pain.
Only 15? Luckyyyyy
“It Takes Two” is truly an amazing game 😄
1:25 nice one mate
Why doesn't this have any like?
The main character of the yakuza series is kamurocho. Therefore you need to play every single one.
I played It Takes Two with my daughter who was 6 years old at the time haha
