I just realized a missed opportunity. Zavala later on asks Ikora to help him learn how to use Stasis. You know what would have been awesome? Zavala using Diamond LANCE. :P
Ikora’s reunion with Cayde should have been in a cutscene. For the life of me I can’t understand why it wasn’t. Completely took away the emotional weight because it was in-game and I’m standing there holding a gun.
It reminded me at the red war where Cayde-6 said about having a hug but Zavala and Ikora didn't do that so I feel like they regretted not hugging him so they did now
Zavala made peace with his wife (well, the memory of her) back in Season of the Haunted, and his son looked up to him and what he could do as a lightbearer. His wife would not have wanted him to sacrifice everything in the universe for her. His son would not have wanted him to sacrifice everything in the universe for him. As much as he wants them back, he knows he can't. He knows it probably wouldn't actually be them. He knows they would be angry. He knows it would be betraying who he is as a person, and who those two loved with all their hearts.
My father saw this cutscene yesterday, and I recently started playing Destiny 2 with him, and I thought of him and Cayde talking when the cutscene ends: “So, I heard the Traveler brought your daughter back.” “Yes. And she’s a Hunter. And true to the name, she’s never afraid to take risks.” “Heh, I like her already. Hope to meet her sometime.”
I love how it took Cayde a few sitdowns and a couple missions with his own killer for him to not only respect Crow, but like him, and even kind of mentor him. However, other Guardians(outside of us)? Took em years. Dunno what that says.
In Lore, Cayde and Crow spent some time together before we got there and it wasnt easy for Cayde who had to remind himself that Crow is a different person
I appreciate Cayde having the emotional maturity to realize he's physically blocking his friends from the healthy process of mourning and moving on. He did the right thing, in the end. The dead should stay dead, for the sake of the living.
@cbenjamin9220Because he wanted to return to the light with Sundance and he did it on his terms. No one elses. Couldnt be more Cayde than that. He fulfilled his purpose
@cbenjamin9220 It is hard to justify having him back permanently as you would undercut the impact of Forsaken. The writers could have easily found a place for Cayde again, but staying true to his character they decided to have him make his own fate
@cbenjamin9220 No, because it is the circumstances of how he was back. Crow wished him back unintentionally. It was a mistake that was made the most use of. Then when Caydes job was done, he returned to the light. No undercut ofForsaken at all
I disagree. Not entirely, but still. That’s like saying anyone who seemingly “dies” should just stay out of peoples lives. Not everyone asks for the situations they’re put in and no one asks to get dead. Once you slap that label on them you treat them like a pariah. Like a big fat nothing. If that were all true, Mara wouldn’t still call Crow her brother. He may be different, but he’s still her brother. I’m not saying you need to go around yanking people out of the ground, but you should at least just be glad they are here. No one complained about Saint-14. Now in the case of Cayde here I agree cause that wish was not intended. But if, like Saint, they can be saved; you owe it to them to try. One thing I learned from this series, life has a way of bringing things back around again. One way or another. Even if you let something go, it can find its way back to you on its own. Kind of like Strand: connections weaving across space and time that are always there. It’s just a matter of perspective whether those strings tie you down, or connect you with the world and everyone in it. And sometimes the universe decides it’s not your time, even when everyone else thinks so. Funny how limited our perspectives really are. So don’t gripe about salting old wounds. True healing sometimes requires opening them back up again. So long as you live, past or present, they’ll always be there.
Doesn’t matter if you hold onto those things or not. Sometimes things make their way back on their own. Look at this whole series: Sloane survived the Deep and made her way back. I never believed she was dead and held out hope for her. Asher is somewhere in the Vex network still helping. And Uldren came back as Crow to redeem himself. Heck, now Cayde got the chance to go out better than he did. He may have returned to the light this time, but he did it bringing back our Ghost. Should he have let that happen? Its like Strand
Taking away the seriousness. Cayde: so. Whats this about you being engaged to a cabal queen? Zevala: you told him? Guardian: we really wanted to tell you. Cue cayde laughing his ass off until he short circuits 🤣🤣🤣
When he's somber and low toned, he almost sounds like Lance. I teared up a few times when i'd hear him speak. Overall i give him a 10/10 performance. He's giving more of an Admiral Anderson (Mass Effect) performance rather than an Arbiter (Halo) performance. And that is the perfect tone for him.
Honestly, this could lead to a great dynamic between Zavala and Cayde. Both of them have a lot in common and it would be interesting to watch two characters who were once so different find such emotional common ground. I also love how content that hug was. EDIT: Nope. I gave Bungie too much credit. They revived him as a publicity stunt and then killed him off again. Though I have to admit, it's kinda sad that Cayde WANTS to be dead.
it wasn't all for nothing, it gave all the characters just a bit more closure. The way Cayde had described the after life, I don't blame him for having issues with being back or wanting to be on the other side as soon as the fight was over.
While there is a lot that they could have done(and only much time, money, and room in the game for so much) I do believe that Cayde returning to the light was the right and best choice Cayde died a death that was foolish and reckless. This time he choose to go back in his own way. And by reviving Ghost it was a much more heroic sacrifice Plus throughout the campaign he didnt want to be back. He misses Sundance and the afterlife. He felt he was called back for a certain purpose and had fun while doing it. Cayde couldnt have asked for a better return than that, as well as making amends with his killer and even passing the mantle on to him as Vanguard...it is subtle like the music. Serene. He kept the rest of the vanguard's spirits up and was even the wise one. When he is usually the goofball. Bungie did it right, even if we dont agree with the outcome
Was this all just in case you miss season of the haunted? cause this was all old shit to me and didn't leave me feeling much that I hadn't already felt before.
I have played destiny since beta of d1. I found this cutscene to be the most moving thing I've ever seen in a game, and I've played most Final Fantasies. I was completely blown away by this. Great job bungie and all involved ❤ I just wish the commander could have voiced it....😢 Maybe AI can re do it in his voice? No disrespect to the new voice actor he does a grand job too 👍🏼
they want us SO HARD to cry for holloway, but I never ever cared for the character. I don't doubt she had her place in the story, some time ago, possibly during destiny 1 ? but as far as I'm concerned, good riddance.
Nah, during destiny one all she did was apply caydes stealth drive to eris's ship, thats about it, i didnt feel anything either and I've been a 10 year fan
Being an Exo is more than being a robot, Its a human conciseness inside an Exo frame. Either by force, debt, or money but it was an experiment to extend human life, although the first generation went insane from lack of basic sense. And current Exos need thier memory reset every so often. If it could be undone, the Ghost would resurrect humans instead of exos. But since a human conciseness is resting comfortably inside the Exo frame it probably feels like there is nothing unnatural about it, and just brings back the Exo

Bro looking like a Neon Nerd
i'm reading it with cayde voice
So that's who Imaru keeps calling "Neon nerd"
Lance was stoic and calm, but right now we need a desperate and broken zavala, and keith nailed it
Keith David is doing a great job. He may not be Lance Reddick, but he IS Zavala
I wish it was Kevin Michael Richardson but David is amazing.
it feels like Zavala is in a bad time and place right now and it sounds great as Keith David
I just realized a missed opportunity. Zavala later on asks Ikora to help him learn how to use Stasis. You know what would have been awesome? Zavala using Diamond LANCE. :P
No
It actually took me quite a bit to remember that it was a different person behind the voice. It's THAT good!
All of this gritty, somber, emotional seriousness... And then there's us, in all our glowing neon sparkly bullshit, sitting in the background!
Destiny no longer has an aesthetic, because the players eat this shit up.
if you're slaying gods you need to look good
Very nice to see Buck and Arbiter sharing a hug ^_^
I just realised... Im having a headache...
Imagine being hugged by your brother in arms and then you hear WORT WORT WORT
rest in peace Reddick. now Keith is taking up the mantle of commander Zavala

Whoever they fired from last season that we got this God-tier level storytelling and direction- good job, Bungo.
Good job.
I’m so glad they got Keith David doing Savala‘s voice rest in peace Lance Reddick may the traveler look after you🙌🙏
The music in this expansion is fucking beautiful.

Keith David did an amazing job as Zavala. But all I can hear is a more solemn and emotional Spawn 😂

Whats the soundtrack for the second part where Cayde tells us that life isnt about holding on forever?
im still trying to figure this out too
Cayde playing the harmonica makes no faking sense. he is an exo no lungs no hair to blow into the harmonica. it just hilarious
He's cayde he can do whatever he wants
Exos are built to simulate the human experience so he might be able to blow air. I know he can eat and drink.
Exos have lungs. He can blow air
To add what @SatyrToon said, Exos are created to simulate a human body or else they go crazy and need to be rebooted
We have space wizards that can use superhuman powers but an Exo playing the harmonica is where we draw the line?
Now that, is a hug.
This makes me happy to see them back again
This DLC was Zavala at his lowest, unsure if that he can really trust the Traveler and his journey into acceptance
