    I'm really jealous how much tread is on that tire after 40,000 miles and no tire rotation.

    Very interesting about turning wearing the fronts differently than the rears. I've read a lot about car tires, but this is the first time I'm hearing about that phenomenon.

    THANKS! In the "old" days, crossing one set and other just moved frontback was the norm. Then radials and newer cars and front wheel drive came along and I kept hearing you should only rotate front to back. Supposedly as the "direction" was/got set into the tires. Never made sense to me as FWD have strain in both forward and reverse directions, acceleration/driving and braking, whereas rears essentially just roll and are only stressed when braking. I know there are directional tires but correct me if wrong, but don't think most conventional, consumer tires are, so it does make more sense to me to get most overall wear would be the cross one set and move others on same side.
    All that make sense? (need to show this to the place I bought my tires in case they give me grief about rotating this way... :)
    Thanks,
    RichE San Diego, CA

    This is a great video. I have a saying, "tires and batteries". When will they make these things last geez. I'm forever dealing with leaks and shit batteries. I have experienced the feathering numerous times and usually its due to really crappy tires. I have never had this issue with good quality tires. I typically do not rotate the tires because I don't like replacing 4 tires when they are all worn equally. I only replace two, the rear for rear wheel drive. If the alignment is a bit different I think that could screw up the tread on the tire, although I am not sure about that. Ya with the GM Silverado the tires scrap along when doing a full cranked turn. Don't get that with old Mercedes :). Tires last a lot longer on the front.

    So if the front tires are pretty wasted but the back ones are fine is it still recommended to rotate them ?

    • @JoeJoe-wp1vv
      @JoeJoe-wp1vv 2 роки тому

      This happened to me on my vehicle, due to my negligence of not doing proper suspension and regular tire rotation.
      Anyways, I went to get a suspension and asked to get a tire rotation and they said they don't recommend it and wouldn't do it anyway because my front tires were badly worn and my rear tires weren't as bad, so if I had put my front tires in the back, and since they were worn out, I wouldn't have gotten proper gripping while I braked and /or when it rained, my vehicle could have skidded.

    • @brandib2821

      This just happened to me I had to replace all 4. Got my suspension checked and it was fine. They said it’s cause my car is fwl. To avoid it you rotate them but they won’t do it now since they will be uneven and also they won’t recommend to only buy two

    Another tip, make sure to replace all 4 tires. Different diameters can mess up your transmission on new vehicles!

    • @superduperboyx
      @superduperboyx 2 роки тому

      A tire rotation shouldn't have any effects of pulling to the side. Is there an alignment issue? Are you 100% sure you didn't already have that problem before getting the oil change and tire rotation?

    • @1AAuto

      +Ada L Directional tyres are marked on the side, i.e. on the tyre's sidewall. You will see the word "Rotation" or "Direction" written here. Next to it, there is a small arrow which indicates the tyre's forward direction (rolling direction)

    40 000 miles tires? lol thats a lot. Usually here in eastern europe most people buy used cars.Lets say you buy a used car which is about 15 years old. If you're doing like 5000 km a year and you bought a new tires along with the car after 5 years you're probably gonna throw the car in the trash. Because youve thrown so much money fixing it that its better to just buy a new one. 5 years per 6000 is about 30 000 km. Which is about the lifetime of the car. Ive seen 10 years old tires and there is only slight difference in the wear. So if you're doing low km driving its not even worth it because you gonna throw the car in the trash in couple of years anyway. And the difference in the wear wont be super super crazy and you can still get away with using the tires in the summer. And even if you see that the wear is too much you can just buy new ones. And still the brand new tires you bought when you got the car will last you at least 3-4 years with minimum wear. So unless you are doing a lot of miles and driving a new car this isnt gonna worth doing.
