Though I think a way they could balance this is to find a way to have some venues be generic but less powerful while combo lines push you into specific archetypes. Kind of like skill trees in an RPG. This allows for a jack of all trades build that have medium bosses or more specialized builds that have stronger bosses.
While the fiend Smith cards do help every deck, they do not help every player. They are too expensive for everyone to use If they had come out at lower rarities then people wouldny be complaining as much

They planned the samurai crap ahead of time knowing it wouldn't be very fun for most players. I think most people are already tired of this format. I think this engine deserves the same treatment. Just an opinion but they set a precident for killing a new deck with SHS, and if they're gonna do it at all they should do it when I want them to lol. Or we want them to.
it bums me out that not only was melodious a good deck last format, you could probably make an easy argument that it was like, top 3. but since it's a deck that can't really play with fiendsmith that well like snake-eyes or yubel can, and it also didn't get anything in INFO like Tenpai, it gets shunted out of the meta entirely. now it's rogue at best, maybe tier 3 on a good day ah well. it was fun while it lasted
It saw play but a lot of the early success just came from people not knowing how to interact with the deck properly. Once people started to figure out how to beat it, and cards like droplet, book of eclipse and drnm gained popularity, the deck just largely fell out of the format.

Fiendsmith to me seems like a modern version of the invoked engine. 5-6 main deck cards, a bunch of extra deck cards and needs another engine to supplement it while also supplementing the other engine.
More and more I think to fix the game more cards need once per duel effects. But also I think it’d be unique for a format to just make all cards limited to one.

That's probably the big difference as what was originally considered the definitive way to play the Deck quickly became outdated when with Tear, nobody knew what was the definitive way to play it before Ishizu

Drytron my favorite deck of all time and i was happy it received support however the new trap is useless and i feel like the major restriction on NU2 was necessary but it also kinda makes the deck worse in a way. Would have been better if it locks you for the rest of the turn and not the turn.
Regarding the last convo, I think a duel links style banlist could be an interesting take w/o having to reboot the whole game. All these strong non engine cards could be limited and you have to pick between the best engines or the best non engine. Idk if limit 3 would be enough or if a limit 6 would make sense for the larger deck size vs DL but ide love to see some Yugioh we tournaments held with this in mind as a p.o.c.
Personally I'd like to see more kinds of deck manipulation rather than pure rotas. More excavate and add effects and such like that that add some consistency but also encourages players to learn alternate combo lines based on what they were able to find and such

Thankfully closed of moon heaven is a light since all of labrynth are dark fiends, maybe the unreleased red labrynth will be light fiend to link with fiendsmith (in big welcome there's another unaccounted for labrynth monster)

We've been going from busted to busted for years now, we haven't really gone down in power. Hearing x deck with the latest support would've been good years ago always feels bad since there are cool archetypes but because they're not the best they get turned into bulk. I'd be interested in a world where cards like Ash get banned and replaced with less good cards since yeah it sucks that the rogue decks get hit way harder than the top decks, it's the rich avoiding taxes while the poor are struggling to get by.
I'm not gonna complain about the dominus locks, but I will complain about konami giving lab free access to the better dominus trap also, I think the modern handtrap overexposure problem really comes down far more to how compact modern engines are than anything to do with the handtraps themselves.though also, on a side note, I really feel like ash and possibly her friends as well should've had the mulcharmy 'can't have cards on your field' restriction applied. I know they're not as game warping as maxx c and the like, but having to play through what modern decks can do and then on top of it all having them be backed up by other handtraps feels really kinda gross, imo I mean, that, or they can crater the power ceiling of turn 1 boards. which is probably more realistically possible (outside of the problem of it's konami, I mean)
Decks should stop having strategies that dump cards only for them to be miracle fusion and then not get restricted for it. Remember, Tearlament got hit by limit 1 and ban. Every main deck monster except Reinoheart is limited wtf
The unfortunate thing is that the banlist comes out at a snail's pace when compared to the new set releases, which are constantly escalating the power of decks. I'm not sure if a more frequent banlist is the solution, though, because then we'd never truly have an established format. Things would be changing too drastically and too frequently. But I do enjoy the idea of pre-hitting cards in the TCG after seeing their over-performance in the OCG. Though I doubt Konami would ever really do this as it would harm their card sales. Regretably, capitalism gets in the way of game balancing 😂
The small but monthly banlists approach of MD is what makes more sense. Being able to quickly balance the game would make a lot of people complain less.

Basically i would sell off everything valuable that doesnt coincide with my favorite deck or two. I dont want to get rid of everything permanently, but I also am tired of watching my card value go down drastically due to the reprint policies and decisions konami makes. I dont expect all of my cards to go up in value, but i have come to the realisation that konami policy disrespects my money more than any other TCG company (in my experience). I always want to have something nice to play but I do not want a collection after being subject to Konamis practices. There wasnt enough time between kashtira and snake-eye and fiendsmith.

Got all Nats to play with it and people will be looking to the next format soon after anyways.
Hot take: I actually like how splashable fiendsmith is and how it can give consistantcy to so many different decks. The big issues are Snake Eyes and Beatrice.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person in the world enjoying modern Yu-Gi-Oh!. I love Snake-Eyes mirrors, I'm stoked to be moving into a Fiend dominant metagame, I like Fiendsmith cards fine even if Beatrice needs a ban, I'm having fun playing the game when I play it and deckbuilding for the metagame, I love hand traps, I love interactive skill based games, and I'm having the time of my life playing modern Yu-Gi-Oh! Admittedly classic Yu-Gi-Oh! is baller, I played the Edison event on Master Duel and loved it, but would I trade this for that? Never. The only problem with the game I have is floodgates, and even that has been mitigated significantly since I started playing again. I'm not saying "get good". Both of you are better than I am (recent Saga events aside). But I'm amazed how much people who play this game absolutely hate it every day.
Your skill at this point is winning at the casino and drawing no duplicate cards and enough instant speed interaction for what your opponent happens to be doing. The other decks that need more than 1 card to combo off lose the war of attrition against 2-3 handtraps, rogue struggles to climb over that. You get easy wins smacking around everyone else, until the pinnacle becomes...who drew no duplicates for once per turn cards and their 1 card starter. You're deluded by the endorphin rush of getting lucky and will get to ride it longer so Konami can sell their high rarity cards longer.
“Interactive” is the most overused word in modern yugioh. Disruptions are not interaction they are disruptions. I’m sorry your 15 minute one card combo deck that bothers the opponent every time they activate a card and includes 12-18 hand traps is *not* interactive and might as well be an ftk deck. Both players getting to make plays across multiple turns and getting to do what their deck is supposed to, that is interactive gameplay. There is a lot of good games possible in modern yugioh and plenty of decks than enable actually interactive gameplay, if we didn’t still enjoy and love the game we wouldn’t care enough to want the garbage gone we’d just move on to other games.
It’s just too expensive man. There’s something to be said about winning a mirror match if the deck is skillful and snake eyes definitely is skillful, but it’s too expensive for regular players to even pick up and start acquiring skills.
No other card game in the modern day prints cards that are limited in any shape or form but farfa dont give a shit about other card games because he constantly scoffs at when people want to look outside his YGO safe bubble. If your designing a card that isnt ment to be at 3 then maybe your card design philosophy is completely flawed and needs to be reworked. Companies should never prints cards and blatantly tell their consumer base how many they get to use as soon as they rip packs. That's just a huge R&D oversight at that point and the company needs to restructure how their designing cards. You guys already complain about product not being desirable to open and having cards coming out restricted to 1 means less people will want to rip packs for it even less than they already do.

Honestly I think Yugioh should take a page out of Vanguard's book and start experimenting with Choice Restrictions. Could be worth looking into imo

The only problem with the game I have is floodgates, and even that has been mitigated significantly since I started playing again. I'm not saying "get good". Both of you are better than I am (recent Saga events aside). But I'm amazed how much people who play this game absolutely hate it every day.

Your skill at this point is winning at the casino and drawing no duplicate cards and enough instant speed interaction for what your opponent happens to be doing. The other decks that need more than 1 card to combo off lose the war of attrition against 2-3 handtraps, rogue struggles to climb over that. You get easy wins smacking around everyone else, until the pinnacle becomes...who drew no duplicates for once per turn cards and their 1 card starter. You're deluded by the endorphin rush of getting lucky and will get to ride it longer so Konami can sell their high rarity cards longer.

“Interactive” is the most overused word in modern yugioh. Disruptions are not interaction they are disruptions. I’m sorry your 15 minute one card combo deck that bothers the opponent every time they activate a card and includes 12-18 hand traps is *not* interactive and might as well be an ftk deck. Both players getting to make plays across multiple turns and getting to do what their deck is supposed to, that is interactive gameplay.
There is a lot of good games possible in modern yugioh and plenty of decks than enable actually interactive gameplay, if we didn’t still enjoy and love the game we wouldn’t care enough to want the garbage gone we’d just move on to other games.
It’s just too expensive man. There’s something to be said about winning a mirror match if the deck is skillful and snake eyes definitely is skillful, but it’s too expensive for regular players to even pick up and start acquiring skills.

No other card game in the modern day prints cards that are limited in any shape or form but farfa dont give a shit about other card games because he constantly scoffs at when people want to look outside his YGO safe bubble. If your designing a card that isnt ment to be at 3 then maybe your card design philosophy is completely flawed and needs to be reworked. Companies should never prints cards and blatantly tell their consumer base how many they get to use as soon as they rip packs. That's just a huge R&D oversight at that point and the company needs to restructure how their designing cards. You guys already complain about product not being desirable to open and having cards coming out restricted to 1 means less people will want to rip packs for it even less than they already do.
