I love how old myths had no idea how biology worked "the babies fell out off her neck"
They didn’t CARE how biology worked, because divine beings are not gross physical matter, with its limitations. In this case, “monsters” are not born, but created by the leftover divine power decaying to a lower energy state, to describe it in quantum mechanical term.
@@Egilhelmson Well, sure, but then you have stuff like Athena being born from Zeus _voring_ a goddess while she was pregnant (by him questionmark), and Athena later bashing her way out of his skull fully grown and clad in armor. With him none the worse for wear, of course.
And Dionysus ‘was’ initially supposed to be born by a human, but she got bamboozled into getting her everything obliterated by beholding Zeus’ visage, so of course Zeus sewed the _still alive_ fetus into his “thigh.”
That’s in quotes because that’s the official story while depictions have the location in question a _teensy_ bit higher. Quickscoping my mythos knowledge, _none of the others_ of the Greek pantheon do this kind of ish.

Mythology is hilarious when it comes to pregnancies. It's definitely just a roulette on what gets born whenever someone has a baby. Sometimes it's a horse with wings, sometimes a wolf meant to kill all the gods, its always a lottery
Oh. And like that time Zeus put a kid in his calf so it could finish cooking after his mum got vaporised by seeing Zeus' godly form. And don't forget how Artemis and Apollo were born, she was literally running around in labour like if you can stall labour because the ground is shaking 🤣🤣.

There are myths that say that the Hydra end to watch for Hades the Doors of Tataros. Think she got reborn with a purpose to work in the Family Business. After all Kerberos/Cerberos is her brother.

Well Percy is based on a couple of things from Perseus, they are both Demi gods only difference being Perseus is zues’ son, it was Percy who killed Medusa in that story, and their names are definitely vaguely familiar

Babies in Greek mythology are born in the weirdest ways
The more you read about actual Greek Mythology the more you start to realise how weird and unpredictable it can be.
Its more predictable here than you'd think

Also, I had to wonder if during that one moment in the Zero To Hero sequence where Hercules is beating up Medusa, Pegasus was thinking, "Dude, that's my mom." Especially considering I think there's a later moment they reenact it with Pegasus being Medusa. I mean I guess his parentage isn't the same in the movie as his mythological self, much like that of Hercules himself...

@@jaschabull2365 that was the story of her having sex with him, but the story I truly believe is he took advantage of her in the temple of athena where he knew athena would be angry with medusa for the fact of she didn't alow sex in the temple and she also knew posedion had dark tendencies just like the rest of the God's did she knew there wouldn't be a punishment for him so she gave medusa a power over men so she wouldn't be raped again and as well as finding a little bit of justice in the tragedy.

Athena wasn't victim blaming cuz in the original versions she never cursed Medusa she was just born that way, she did help her brother though on his quest to kill Medusa so there's that.

I did know this actually (except the part about the 2 headed snake), but I am a giant Medusa nerd. As for why she gave birth to 2 animals with wings, Medusa actually had wings herself, so her kids probably just inherited that from her. Also, on why chrasaor is a boar, gorgons were often depicted as having boar tusks, so that might have something to do with it.

Fun fact amphisbaena wasn't just a two headed snake it was a snake with a head on each end.
Another fun fact, sci-fi/fantasy author Brandon Sanderson references Amphisbaena in his Starsight novels where it is used as one of the pilot's call signs
I knew all about that. Also, for awhile, Medusa lived with her sisters and had something to keep her from turning them to stone, but eventually she went crazy, turned them to stone and the whole island she was on became a death trap that supposedly ate people.
