I can agree, I have another slightly older model and smaller model from the same line-up and quality-wise (and I care a lot about sound quality as a music producer) it was the best bluetooth speaker out of all I could test or locally buy like 4 years ago despite being "Extra Bass" which I generally also don't like (so I of course keep that and the weird Live stereo-expansion mode off, just plain stock - surprisingly good for stock), but it still sounded far better than any other in the price range I was going for back then and I'm still happily using it.
Sony's sound is less colourful, kicks no dopamine (for me) honestly feels kinda sad to pay that much price. Yeah it's quite durable decent design good quality adequate working not giving you a headache tuned and all that
I have a Sony SRS XB43 and I love it. Perfect balance between convenient size and satisfying sound. I use it behind my pillow to play music while I fall asleep, and I use it at big parties to pump dance music. The light mode is prominent and rave-y too. Only thing it's missing is a carry handle. Unfortunately it's not being sold in Australia anymore (or at least at JB Hi-Fi) and I need the same model if I want to do stereo sound. i THINK i understand what the isolator is doing. if you look at high end dj hardware there's a filter knob that will take you between the high pass and low pass filters, if you want it off you put it back in the middle. what sony did in this case is the put the middle part at the bottom rather than in the middle so 1-20 is low pass at various strengths 20-40 is high pass at various settings.
i'd say it's a bandpass sweep which at the low and high ends of the spectrum essentially becomes a low- or high-pass considering the audible frequencies
LMG has so much amazing talent, Dan, Riley, Jake, Anthony, Brandon, Luke, Alex, Sarah and so many more also behind the scenes, still can't forget Nicky V, Ivan, Collin, Max even when they are no longer part of LMG, they were still amazing hosts, LMG definitely manages to find the right people
I'm loving the design of that SONY speaker. The retractable handle and subtle lights with the all around mesh looks fantastic. And it sounds pretty damn good too
The ports on the sides are called passive speakers. They move because the actual drivers on the front are changing the air pressure inside. It's a really efficient way to pump up the bass in the small form factor that these speakers are made in these days.

The thing is that Sony seems to have had a bit of a revival in many tech line-ups in the last few years. Their high-end audio ,camera and television equipment was always insane (not to mention the gaming consoles), but there was nothing for the average person who doesn't have thousands to blow on a setup. @@shoerice5083 You lost your credibility as soon as you started brand dropping. A JBL is no indicator of quality as is Sennheiser or Monster. The products differ from mediocre to good.
That’s great review. After watching vast of videos about Sony vs JBL (in that case) extreme 3, I’d definitely choose Sony. Unfortunately the SRS-XB43 isn’t available anymore so I will pick gx300. I would say Sony has cleaner sound and what is surprising it has better extra base than jbl xtreme 3.
The mega bass probably didnt work as strong as it may on lower volumes, because it wouldnt have enough power to spit out more bass if it's already at max volume
I dunno...I DJ and regularly use filters and eq when I beatmatch...I'd say it's pretty much essential if you're not mixing tracks that are both DJ mix style and have bookend intros/outros.
The handle is a nice touch. My JBL Charge 5, while it sounds great, is just large enough to comfortable to hold. It's like trying to carry a football around. A handle like that would have been perfect.
Same with my Sony SRS XB43. Damn good sound without taking up too much space (probably as good as this speaker), but awkward to carry. Maybe it's time for me to upgrade to this... Ahh who am I kidding; I'm too poor.
I really like his audio reviews it's good to hear someone giving this, who knows what he's talking about but is also down to the ground with the use cases without compromising completely on the quality

I'm curious as to what opinions you guys have on the Minirig 3's, considered one of the best sounding portable speakers, even by "audiophiles", and its compact form factor is going to make it a really convenient choice too. The only real downside is it's price, costing 140 GBP or 180 USD, considering it's a mono(although a second piece can be bought to pair either wirelessly or wired to form a stereo system instead, with the added benefit or drawback, depending on the users knowhow, on the flexibility of it's placement), and it's lack of functionality and features. Other than that, it's a pretty great speaker actually, and I wonder how more mainstream users will react and feel about it.
I know 95% of the comments are on how amazing Dan is as a host with his dry delivery and straightforward comments (which I love ofc) but can we appreciate this mans ears? He's figuring out which twitter is distorted, the response curves of presets, the noise and losses of speakers during frequency tests, ALL BY EAR!! This is so impressive to me
Sony has in my opinion the best Sound, period. I use Sony for years, and each time I change to a different brand for Earphones or Headphones or speakers, I'm thinking why......now the why is most of the time the price...but worth it. I have no use for these type of speakers as I hate beaches and parties and people....but I had Sony MD system, Sony PC, Sony Lap-Top...etc never have been dissapointed.
For a company that has produced some of the best mass market audio gear ever made, speakers have always been a sore point for Sony. They've historically been either hit or miss (more often miss) or "would be good but for one glaring flaw", especially in more recent decades. Even back in the heyday of the made-in-Japan stuff, their speakers had a pretty shitty reputation. I honestly don't get it, they can make outstanding amplifiers, radio receivers, turntables, DAPs, cassette and reel to reel players but can't find their footing with speakers. That said there are some models from the '70s/'80s made in North America that are like a best kept audiophile secret which you can pick up for practically nothing.
I think you missed what live audio plus was supposed to be, live audio in another speaker was actually a 360 audio algorithm that made the audio come from far right and left making a semi surround sound setup
It would be great if you could review the Monoprice Soundstage3. By far the best sounding Bluetooth speaker I have used to date and my review is currently underway. It would be nice to compare notes if ya feel like doing your own review on it. But so far this Soundstage3 has really impressed me, I mean, sound is right there in it's name. Cheers 🍻
Sonys stuff doesn’t mess around. I have a 5 year old little XB30 that’s a great little speaker. Megabass just bumps up certain parts which makes it fantastic especially for metal.
Are sound and playback settings disabled when using LDAC as informed when turning on LDAC? This would mean that EQ, mega bass, DJ effects etc are not working when LDAC is turned on, right?
I remember MegaBass on all my Sony products from the 90's (had loads of different headphones and CD Walkmans from Sony over the years) think they've perfected it in the last 30 years! It's not cheap crap Beats by Dre! 😎

I love how ALL the comments are about DAN, as if nobody noticed the speaker that was the point of video. LMAO!!
I tried out the Sony XP-300 in Target and was blown away by the sound; it was super clear. I’d say it’s better than JBL’s Xtreme 3!
I still have Sony xb 30 its one of the best purchase decision 2019..still running for 1 hrs at max vol..perfect bass....
Finally a speaker with Ldac, a codec way way better than the standard SBC and AAC.
In depth audio review. Dan knows his stuff and it makes me happy.
Miss the SRS-XB family . They stopped on the SRS-XB X3 series
I do enjoy the rawness of Dan’s presentation… pretty sure he would be someone I would love to work with
I think you missed what live audio plus was supposed to be, live audio in another speaker was actually a 360 audio algorithm that made the audio come from far right and left making a semi surround sound setup
Cheers 🍻
Yes end caps get a carrying strap makes for a good foam roller.
Linus really has built an empire. Also Dan is a natural.
Isn’t that a black version of Log from Blamo?
Thank you for honoring my WAN floatplane comment requesting more Dan content
have you tested the Marshall Bluetooth speakers? I have the old Kilburn but want one of the taller newer ones
This pricing aged really well. I just got the bigger version, the xg500 for 300$
I remember MegaBass on all my Sony products from the 90's (had loads of different headphones and CD Walkmans from Sony over the years) think they've perfected it in the last 30 years! It's not cheap crap Beats by Dre! 😎
Exactly!!
