Baltic Aquascaphe Blue Gilt - Best Diver Under $1000? - 5 Things You Didn’t Know Yet Actually Did

  • Опубліковано 28 лис 2020
  • Today I’m going over the foundation of my watch collection which is mostly made up of dice-style timepieces with a vintage flair and a bit of bling. This watch has it all.
    Notes from Baltic’s Website:
The AQUASCAPHE is capable of diving to depths of up to 200m. Toolwatches are often considered to be the ultimate daily watch as they're waterproof, scratch-resistant, shockproof, and they look great in any situation.
The Aquascaphe is a watch with a true respect of the vintage codes, without compromises, within the modern quality standards. The diameter is 38mm at the case and 39mm with the bezel, with 47mm lug to lug and 12mm of thickness.
The AQUASCAPHE comes with a double-domed sapphire glass that makes it virtually impossible to scratch. Sapphire is known as one of the toughest materials on earth, making this watch ultra-resistant.
Sapphire has also been used on the bezel, giving it a modern "bakelite" appearance enhancing the vintage style. It gives a unique "depth" to the bezel.

I bought the blue gilt Aquascaphe and love it. The bracelet and tropic strap are verrrry nice! I was looking for the Méraud Bonaire first but had no luck. I finally found the Méraud for sale and it is absolutely fantastic! The lume blazes for a long, long time! It also has an "oil can" body which is a very clean design.

I keep coming back to this, I tried on a Seamaster 300, which this obviously looks very similar to, and it just hits the vintage feel perfectly, ultimately I went with the Diver300m which is a very different look. For the money this is looks a fantastic lower price alternative.

I love how they have hidden the modern milled clasp under the old school friction clasp cover. This feature is in fact the perfect example of what this watch strives to be. The sapphire bezel insert to mimic the Bakelite look.....Oh and to anyone who speaks disparagingly about the movement, the 9 series Miyota movement is there right along with the SW200 or 2824 except you get to keep the watch price down by a few hundred dollars and for what? A uni directional winding rotor with the occasional noise? Worth the trade off in my opinion.

    • @nojburns

I received mine a few days ago. They've added push bars to the clasp but they haven't made it any thicker. I love it. I wish watch companies would go back to making thinner clasps of stamped, quality steel, rather than these chunky milled ones that feel like you've a Buick parked below your wrist. Uncle Seiko gets it right. So does Hadley-Roma.

I would have rather had black but I really don’t like the rough textured dial so went for blue. If the black had a glossy dial then it would have been the top choice. Love the cream details. But in fact my perfect spec would have been what the glossy black bronze has but in stainless steel. No ink in the bezel markers, dial face numbers in cream… would have been perfect. I love the bronze look but don’t fancy a green wrist where the lugs touch the skin!

I must be in the minority; I have this watch and hate it - why? The case edges are so sharp you can cut glass with it, also the stupid ‘c’ at the end of Baltic really annoys me. The only benefit is I can put it on eBay and get my money back.

@@scottlauren3145 I am not a big fan of the friction fit on the bracelet, the metal or finishing on the bracelet doesn't exactly match the case. It is almost like they are developed by two different factories. The lume doesn't last long and is not evenly applied. The sandwich dial is hardly noticable. I have even more minor issues but really all to be expected at this price point. I would recommend to anyone. by the way, it dress up very well. I put it on a black glossy leather strap and paired it with a suit. Looked better than most of my dress watches.

A homage to the Oris 65, but with inferior movement. So far, Baltic, has a knack of copying vintage aesthetics. Surely, Baltic is so great. They can maybe, come up with something more original perhaps.
