4:51 less games equals less revenue. There are less people at the gates, less people spending money on concessions, less commercials being sold on tv. Maybe, you would get more tickets on average sold at some of the smaller markets that don’t do well so it would be less of a hit to them but their revenue share would be less from the big markets. The owners would make less money off the product so they in turn would pay people less. No where in life do you ever get more for less. You fooling yourself if you believe that.

Do it as a Friday or Saturday special, and a day off somewhere in the week? Makes sense to me, but that's a lot of innings without rest between them. Might need an extra player on the rosters then.
I can't get on board with less games, I really like the amount of games they play now as a fan. I don't want records to never be broken, thats lame. I would be on board with adding a week or 2 of off days and hopefully that will help with pitchers' recovery.
Honestly, start the season a week earlier, and end it a week later. Since the WC series don't have travel, they can be consecutive days, then a travel day in the playoffs.
Or perhaps opening up the 40 man roster after the All-Star break? It would probably wreck a AAA or AA roster, but giving them a couple of months to recover is better than two or three weeks, especially if they're going for the playoffs (the minor league team).

You mentioned the lock-out and I laughed. Mike Golic Sr has been saying the same thing about NFL players for YEARS. No ex-player wants to straight-up say that many of the players are dumb when it comes to money/contracts/negotiation. Many grew up poor and the owners know it and take advantage.
As a fan I hate the idea of a shorter season. The problem with other sports is the two days between games. This is even worse for the nfl as they only play 17 games, and only play 1 per week. Baseball is so good because you can trust that when you come home and relax about 90% of the time there will be a game on.
8:29 as long as housing is not given as a basic Human right for free to all people, then there will be houseless people. Every city has a houselessness “problem” because we live in a fucked up system which doesn’t guarantee the necessities for Humans to live
The other thing about converting from a 162 game season to 144 game season...the amount of player games wouldn't go down by all that much. Rotations almost never see all 5 guys pitch 130 innings throughout a season, those extra off days would just mean the starters start about the same amount of games and they'd need to plug in fewer call-ups to fill out the season. A total of 76 guys played in over 144 games last season out of the ~700 position players, we don't have the Ripken type ironmen in baseball anymore anyway.
Rendon not even liking baseball is just a meme at this point. Also, how is TA on that first list? The Sox had to let him walk into free agency, because he had zero trade value. Now he's just doing the same thing in Miami.
Less games would mean less money. Stadium revenue is still a big part of salary, every game you cut reduces the pool of money that is available for the players.
The problem I have with less games is really about the All-time records. It'll take 25 years of people arguing about "He would of had more HR's the Judge if he could of played those 14 games. I think the better way to give guys a rest is add 2 more roster spots. Lastly less games means less TV, less radio = $$. Bonus + Post, post season All-Star game
Trevor, I agree a lot with the shortening of the season. 148 games would be good. What about back to the 154, even? 8 more off days is about an extra day a month. Wouldn't kill bullpens as much, rotations could stick to 5 far more often. Guys get a little extra rest, so everyone is more fresh and we get a more consistent good product. Also, can we get 2 expansion teams so we can limit interleague play again?
Man, Trevor….less games is a no for me as a fan, bro. I’m cool with more off days and lengthen the schedule a bit, no problem. But I want my full 162, man. Baseball is my and many other’s obsession and passion, and the records being heavily impacted is a true difference maker too. 162 is perfect as a fan
Baseball does effectively have a salary cap though; the luxury tax is by all effect a soft cap. If I were a player, I'd be willing to take a slightly lower luxury tax threshold in exchange for a floor that carries the financial penalties for teams that don't meet it. Its lucrative for owners to not spend, and that's bad for the game.
Trev. I’ve seen multiple games this season of players literally swinging the bats out of there hands. Why do you think this is happening?? Maybe I haven’t watched as much baseball the last few seasons as now, but damn. I swear it’s been happening wayyyy to often. Anyone else’s input is noticed. Thanks
the irony of Rojas as an example of good player on bad marlins team for Chisholm when Chisholm crapped on Rojas so hard at the start of the season... Not criticizing, i really do love it. Gotta love baseball.
Oh absolutely. But that's one of the reasons why it's stupid - in any area of life - to judge people from the past based on modern criteria. His comments about Babe Ruth were more charitable to that notion, probably because his career was 60 years prior to Maddux's. But the reality is that, just because Maddux wouldn't have got the strike calls on many of his pitches from the 90s in today's game doesn't mean that Maddux would have stubbornly continued to throw balls 8" off the plate and expect strikes to be called. He'd have approached the game differently. Just like Ruth would have had to approach the game differently if he had been surrounded by other players that were reaching their full potential. The greatest players in the game's history were great because they figured out what to do to stand out from the crowd in the era in which they played. And there is no evidence that, were they to play today, they wouldn't figure out how to do precisely the same thing. So, comparisons across time are fundamentally flawed, and that fact is obvious, making anyone who is particularly opinionated about it pretty foolish.
I 100% agree the season is too long, and 148 feels like a good number. If the league really wants a better product and reduce injuries across the board, which I believe would lead to more popularity and income overall. Records with only 14 less games would normalize after a few years, especially with players actually playing a higher % of the games. Rarely does anyone actually play 162 games in a season. There really isn't a good argument for not reducing the number except the owners greed.
Maddux was crafty enough that he would adjust to what umps were allowing/calling or not, IMHO. But unless you have a flux capacitor in your junk drawer, we'll never know.
I think the response to the season length has a LOT to do with the quote coming from Rendon who has not played 30 games in a season since he signed his fat contract.. No one wants to agree with that guy.....even if it benefits them or makes them look better..... the question would have gone better if it was an unassociated question
It would kill the league to shorten the schedule so teams aren't playing 10-12 games in a row. At least one day a week so they could recover and/or travel. They grind even harder in the minors.
The "analytics say you gotta hit for power" argument seems weird to me when guys like Steven Kwan directly disprove it. I don't think it's fair to call out Greg Maddux as if he was good because of the large strike zone. He and Glavine intentionally hit the corners and slowly expanded the strike zone. That was a big part of their talent. That being said, I still thinks it's absurd to expect people to do that now because they had incredible command that only a few people in history ever had. Only pitchers that hit their spots on every pitch can pull that off.
Of course they’re opposed to a salary cap, because then they’d get less money, and the results from other questions on this poll clearly indicate that’s all players care about. (Even though they’re all massively overpaid as it is) Not having a salary cap means the big market teams will always have an advantage. It’s created a league that is quite literally pay to win. Whoever has the most money wins, and it’s usually the Yankees. 🙄
Is it fair to say though that the Rockies don't value analytics (pitching side of it that is) AS MUCH because of the unique circumstance of Coors Field? You said it, Free agent pitchers are not constantly knocking on the door to come to Colorado I assume cause of the altitude which means the Rockies have to basically rely on home grown talent in pitching or struggling pitchers looking to maybe revive their careers. I dont think the stone age quote is a fair one but i definitely understand it 😂😂
Love the video, take it or leave it but I think it'd be a little more watchable if you were sitting a foot or two further from the camera. I found myself scrolling down to get out of your face any time you went fullscreen with the facecam LMAO.
i'm a reds fan and love elly but...yeah. people treat him like he's already a finished product. one of the best players in the league. he's definitely not that yet. it seems like he can get there, but who knows? he strikes out A LOT. he makes a lot of bad decisions in the field and commits a lot of unforced errors. he's got a lot of stuff to work on. it's gonna be very sad when he leaves the reds and becomes THAT GUY on another team.
"There's less money being paid to all the players total" in regard to a cap seems a whole lot like something that would lead to more parity and less stupidly huge contracts. Lower overall average team salaries would make the league more competitive. In a prior video you said you would need to play 5 games a day to justify 30 million but now say that more money good? For players maybe, not for fans who see everything around their teams becoing more and more expensive to participate in while the price of milk and bread gets inflated beyond affordability. Also O'Neil Cruz should be on that over rated list.

Is Correa really overrated? Seems like everyone just hates on him solely because of the astros scandal. He’s one of the best fielding shortstops I’ve seen and when his bat is on he’s the best player on the field which recently has been true
the salary cap might be a net negative for the players but the fans of a good bit of ball clubs (the pirates for me) would love to see our owner forced to spend money. we want you guys to make more then ever but i love the pirates and he wont spend so it makes me love baseball less wich makes me watch it less wich means less money i spend toward baseball. i dont want you guys to lose money but fuck do i want nutting to be forced to spend money.

Of course they’re opposed to a salary cap, because then they’d get less money, and the results from other questions on this poll clearly indicate that’s all players care about. (Even though they’re all massively overpaid as it is)
Not having a salary cap means the big market teams will always have an advantage.
I dont think the stone age quote is a fair one but i definitely understand it 😂😂
Trevor, loved you on the Mets.
A lot of the responses to this poll seem like they would fit a lot better a year ago
Love the video, take it or leave it but I think it'd be a little more watchable if you were sitting a foot or two further from the camera.
I found myself scrolling down to get out of your face any time you went fullscreen with the facecam LMAO.
That’s an easy fix! I can do that
Do you have all of your own baseball cards?
hi trevor
i'm a reds fan and love elly but...yeah. people treat him like he's already a finished product. one of the best players in the league. he's definitely not that yet. it seems like he can get there, but who knows? he strikes out A LOT. he makes a lot of bad decisions in the field and commits a lot of unforced errors. he's got a lot of stuff to work on. it's gonna be very sad when he leaves the reds and becomes THAT GUY on another team.
Now, this is a fair review from someone that know wtf he's talking about.
It makes me really happy for Mookie to be leading the league in vibes because I love Mookie
THE HAT GOES SO HARD
asg should just be a 7 inning slow pitch softball game on the full sized field
If Marcel ozuna and Gunnar Henderson keep this up I think they deserve to be in mvp convos
Mobo hat is the best pet of this video
Dude, need the MoBo hat. Link?
One of your best videos yet. Love the honesty which isn’t too prevalent in professional sports. We get stock BS answers and not what is REALLY going on. Thanks TM.
"When something goes wrong what are you going to do?"
Go back to basics. People act like players never played before analytics took over.
i miss modern baseball ‼️🗣️
Do many players just opt out of this? That’s the type of player I want for me team!!
Outside of Vegas, Atlanta has the best strip clubs in the US. May be a factor…..just sayin’.
I paused to read all the quotes that you skipped over. I want to know what US player said that they'd be too good and destroy everyone.. did they not see the last WBC? Lol
No comment about our mets being rated low??
the one vote from yordan was jose alvarado
Idk man… Yordan basically hit Robbie Ray into a slump he hasn’t gotten out of. My bet is Robbie Ray
@@averagepufferfish5612 lol i was gonna say him but the causals wouldn’t have understood
If you want 14 more off days a season just start baseball 2 weeks earlier, I think that could work.
Did Trevor May retire? Idk he was doing this 💀
Are Willy Adames and Eugenio Suarez good Vibes guys?
Is Correa really overrated? Seems like everyone just hates on him solely because of the astros scandal. He’s one of the best fielding shortstops I’ve seen and when his bat is on he’s the best player on the field which recently has been true
Is your hat about the band or actual modern baseball lol
"Babe Ruth had what he had when he lived." -Trevor Vivian May
Do you ever play MLB the show? Have you ever thrown a perfect game with Trevor May if so? I have lol
Is it controversial to say that maybe baseball players should make less money?
the salary cap might be a net negative for the players but the fans of a good bit of ball clubs (the pirates for me) would love to see our owner forced to spend money. we want you guys to make more then ever but i love the pirates and he wont spend so it makes me love baseball less wich makes me watch it less wich means less money i spend toward baseball. i dont want you guys to lose money but fuck do i want nutting to be forced to spend money.
Elly is 21 years old. The kid is electric
those jazz comments did not pan out very well
Trevor May for commish
Less games = less club revenue = less money for players
yeah.. the way the ball comes off Ohtani's glove
That's why he's a DH
Ohtani isnt the best player is baseball. Its bryce harper, this dude has been producing since entering the league. Ohtani has two good years and people wanna claim hes the best player, hes the goat, etc. hes top ten player in the oeague for sure but hes not the best or goat in the league.
