So the first thing I thought of when I saw 2014 draft being bad was, at least a pretty good current Phillie, meaning their own pick, Nola, is good. And then to find 3 other current Phillies who are also decent players was a bonus.
The worst thing that could happen to a young pitcher, worst than a Tommy John, is to be drafted or traded to Colorado. Coors will welcome you to the big leagues
There was a time when I lived in East Texas and I would often stop in Shepherd on my trips to Houston, since it's a nice and quaint little town. So I was pretty excited when Tyler Kolek was drafted second overall. It's a shame that Tyler's career never materialized, and the fact that Stephen was able to Majors this season may be one of life's greatest ironies. Anyways, fun video.
The most enduring image of Nick Gordon I have is him smacking the top of the Target Field dugout in celebration when Royce Lewis smashed a home run in the 2023 postseason. I don't know why that was the celebration he went with, but his brother includes "strange" in his name and doesn't believe that the moon is real. He's an international man of mystery, I guess.
I would nominate Ubaldo Jiménez as the greatest starter in Rockies history. He had a 3.67 ERA , AT Coors (3.66 overall as a Rocky) compared to 5.07 for Marquez and 4.66 for Freeland.
If you watch football and have some knowledge about older draft classes, for me as a Philly fan, this Phil's class is so close to the year we drafted Lane Johnson. Both years had such a high amount of busts and yet both our teams drafted one of the very few top guys that panned out.
And it's also hilarious how out of the hits here, almost every has made their career in philly/become a key piece this year. Nola, Hoffman, Schwarbs, and Trea is such a big list of guys for us
I remember that year well. Chip Kelly had just got hired and their was that linebacker/ Defensive end from Oregon that everybody assumed Philly would draft, but Miami nabbed him the pick before. Yeah...... I'd say Lane worked out lol
Should be noted that current Tokyo Giants #2 starter Foster Griffin was a competetive balance pick in this draft as well. While he never panned out in MLB, considering he's currently sporting an 80 FIP- in NPB, there was always something there

Quick fact or whatever Bradley Zimmer was on the Rockies spring training team this year in 45 plate appearances his batting average was.378 and his on base was .430 He became expendable when they signed Jake cave. Justice for my goat Bradley Zimmer
I remember playing travel ball with Derek Hill up until we graduated HS…. The dude had wheels like nobody I’d ever seen before. Saw him hit a laser one time over the centerfielders head and with absolutely 0 errors he turned it into an inside the park home run. Dude was absolutely nasty in centerfield as well. They also got Correa in 2012 then Bregman and Tucker in 2015, 3/5 first round picks being that good is nearly impossible. Just crazy that their misses were the biggest misses

while Freeland's numbers overall are bad this year, he has a 1.71 ERA in his last 26 innings pitched, really wild stats by month, April: 13.21 ERA, May: Injured, June: 1.42 ERA, July, 1.98
Baseball is one of the sports that I never follow when it comes to the draft or player development. But I think it's because there's so little hype when it comes to young players. I feel like even the NHL has more hype when it comes to new draftees. I follow the NFL, NBA, and NHL drafts but I can't list the draft year of a single MLB player at all. Like ever.
The way the Braves leaned on 3 of the top 16 picks to pan out as part of their rebuild, despite not having a first round pick, then watched them all bust and still won a World Series anyway
for as much talk there is about pitchers struggling at coors, kyle freeland epitomizes what it ought to look like for anybody pitching at coors who wants to succeed. The numbers weren't great to start the year but he's been electric since coming off the IL and he has always been a dog that players rally around. For pitchers like Jeff Hoffman, Ryan Feltner, Tyler Anderson or anyone else (current or former rockies) that has struggled pitching at Coors this is in no way meant to put them down BUT it is so frustrating as a rockies fan all the time to just hear people give a cop out of an answer when pitching at coors comes up. Pitchers who want to succeed at coors find ways to adapt (i.e. Cal Quantrill) and they play with a chip on their shoulder. Lastly, success at coors just cant be measured the same if the excuse that "oh well he sucked cause he was a rockie and had to pitch at coors" is ALWAYS getting thrown around TLDR: kyle freeland is a dog, succeeding at coors field is not impossible, and a tired narrative combined with the perpetual suffering associated with being a rockies fan has left me exhausted. Curious for other peoples thoughts on this...

30:40 i will be the only person to EVER tell you that I KNOW that backround music from anywhere its IW Zombies 🔥
As a Phillies fan, this video… I like this video.
while Freeland's numbers overall are bad this year, he has a 1.71 ERA in his last 26 innings pitched, really wild stats by month, April: 13.21 ERA, May: Injured, June: 1.42 ERA, July, 1.98
Like ever.
Great video , but did I hear right that Aaron Nola could have won 2018 CYA if not for Pete deGrom?
The way the Braves leaned on 3 of the top 16 picks to pan out as part of their rebuild, despite not having a first round pick, then watched them all bust and still won a World Series anyway
Bro what was that background song at 6:15? That's some nostalgic times I can't put my finger on exactly🤣🤣
for as much talk there is about pitchers struggling at coors, kyle freeland epitomizes what it ought to look like for anybody pitching at coors who wants to succeed. Lastly, success at coors just cant be measured the same if the excuse that "oh well he sucked cause he was a rockie and had to pitch at coors" is ALWAYS getting thrown around
TLDR: kyle freeland is a dog, succeeding at coors field is not impossible, and a tired narrative combined with the perpetual suffering associated with being a rockies fan has left me exhausted. Curious for other peoples thoughts on this...
21:36 Now that's a heck of a sentence to say lol
