This is one of those rare occasions where the sequel is better than the first movie, far and away the best in the franchise

Finnick knowing that the star-crossed lovers gig was fake in the first games. Then Finnick saying that the moment Peeta's heart stopped is when he realized that Katniss actually does love Peeta for real. Unfortunately for her, so did President Snow.
He doesn't say that until film 3, but yes.

I saw this film in the theater bc I read the first book & loved the first movie, but I LITERALLY blocked out the entire film, I couldn’t remember anything about it except Cinna getting killed, the way this movie was second hand traumaaaaaaa!?!? Insanely well made film, I so deeply relate to the emotional response Niall!!!
Snow never lies to Katniss, it’s the one thing he never does to her.
And the blood in the glass is because as he got older, Snow got more and more paranoid so he began to poison his allies. But to deflect suspicion from himself he would poison himself as well but take the antidote before it killed him and the poison gave him permanent sores in his mouth causing the bleeding. It’s also the reason he wears the white rose so it covers up the scent of death from the poison.
Catching Fire was by FAR my favourite book of the series and for the film to be just as incredible was just such a slay like it REALLY IS 10/10

In the first movie, Haymitch broke my heart with the "Embrace the probability of your imminent death" , knowing that he felt he failed to save 46 kids during his 23 years as a mentor. Now, when he tells Katniss "Wake up, girl, you never get off this train" just destroyed me because they tell you that when you win, you get to live the rest of your life in peace when in truth, you become a slave to the capital and you need to do what they want, when they want, for the rest of your life. And if they can't get you in line, they take you out on the people you love. Haymitch and Joanna were made to be an example of what happens when you defy the capital.
When I read the books years ago and I met Haymitch, I hated him. Now, he's in my top three, along with Finnick and Peeta.
46 kids really puts into perspective his character... jesus i dont think i would be able to live with such burden.
I do wish they'd gone through with Peeta losing his leg in the first film, it would make him look less incompetent in this one. That's really my one big critique for this film, and it's only because I'm so protective of Peeta lol
He lost his leg in the book? I don't remember that part.
@@Henry_Red in the book, it’s why Katniss finds him injured. The medicine helps temporarily but once they’re out of the games they can’t save it so they amputate I think below the knee, giving him a fake leg instead making him walk with a slight limp. This is why he’s a bit of a burden in Catching Fire, because he can’t move as well as he used to be able to
@@clarasundqvist6013 That may be the problem. I only read the first book. I know he injured his leg, but I don't remember amputation being mentioned at all.
@@Henry_Redit’s mentioned in the first book, it’s amputated more because his leg is bit by the wolf mutts and katniss ties a tourniquet around his leg to stop the bleeding but that’s dangerous if left for too long and Cato took all night to die. Katniss wasn’t allowed to see peeta after thr won for a while until the first interview where he has a cane, she doesn’t find out about Peeta’s leg until the 2nd interview though when Caesar asks how his new leg is doing. Katniss is confused and pulls up his pant leg and sees a metal and plastic prosthetic there instead and she’s so distraught by it since it’s caused by her tourniquet that she completely shuts down and hides in Peeta’s shoulder for most of the interview since she’s trying to stop herself from crying
The important and interesting thing about this type of movies, whose content we don't commonly see, is that it teaches that rebellions, while necessary in particular cases, are not 'fun' or simple. They always come with costs. And The Hunger Games closely resembles, in terms of popular uprising, current and past real-life cases in the world.
I always see this, when Katniss says "It must be a fragile system" and its like a "power move" or something but Snow freely admits that it is a fragile system. I do think tho that Katniss is a very well written character because shes not perfect at all. She can be quite impolsive, shes quite dumb and her social skills are about the same as a potato. But shes brave, just, kind. Quite a relateable character in that way.
It's also cool all the little nods to the book, even though the training scene with the Victors was cut down. Everyone who was in on the plan had gold on (Beetee's arm band, Johanna's ear cuff, Mags' ring, etc) to match Katniss' pin during the training scene. Johanna saying "How does it feel now that everyone wants to sleep with you?" referring to her being targeted as a Victor, even though she continued to refuse and everyone she cared about died as a result. Peeta being able to calm the Victor from district 6 as she died since he knew how much she loved color and they had bonded over both being artists and using painting to process their trauma. Just phenomenal. One of my favorite things about the whole story. ❤😢❤
The fact that the books AND the films are brilliant is a miracle. This is easily the best movie. The score alone gives me goosebumps. The costuming! Tens across the board

I love this movie too. Though I have to respectfully disagree that this is JLaw's magnum opus. It's a milestone and a work of art, but she has only gotten exponentially better since those movies. Not to mention the movie she did before THG, called Winter's Bone.

I read the second book on my own back then and was devastated when they killed Cena ! All of these films were fantastic in their own ways, yet I gotta agree this one has to be my personal favorite among them all.

If you hadn't noticed, Rue's dad was the one that started the rebellion in 11 and when u see her family on the podium he isn't there. The capitol killed him because he fought back when his 12 year old daughter died. I love this series but they are not afraid to go in for the feels

I saw the prequel today. I don’t know why it came out a day early in theaters where I live but I’m not complaining. I read the book too and I was worried it wouldn’t live up to it but I think it did a great great job. There were some changes of course but I really loved the movie.
If you love Effie, you may also enjoy Elizabeth Banks’ character in the Pitch Perfect movies. Another side/supporting role that doesn’t have the character arc that Effie does, but we’ll-played and funny.

The mom is not a single mom. In the first movie the father started the riots in the district after Rue’s death so he was probably killed for it.

“We both hate each other.” Coriolanus Snow doesn't hate Katniss herself. Merely that someone like her is working against him rather than with him. After all, he wants “to be friends.” The rebellion Katniss and Peeta inspired is the only reason he has to want to work against her. The longer that takes, the harder he fights, and then he’s left with no alternative but to kill her. Which he doesn't want or like.

The first 2 are definitely the best and I can never decide which one I like more as when I watch the 1st one I’m like this is my fave but then I’m also like that when I watch the second one , the 3rd one is still very good just not as good as the first two , but the dam scene is probably the best in the whole series, then the 4th one is dog shit🤣
