  • In this film documentary we'll be exploring the Elder Cemetery in the unique and beautiful Forkland area of central Kentucky. The largest graveyard in this area, Elder Cemetery is the final resting place for many of the Forkland area's earliest pioneers as well as countless generations of their descendants. From landowners, shopkeepers, soldiers, and young children tragically taken too soon; this and other old family cemeteries represent a vast collection of histories that make up the fabric and essence of a community. At their request, I was happy to have the opportunity to make this film for the Forkland Genealogy & History Workshop. It was possible through the hard work and dedication of Doris Purdom and Shirley Shepperson, who over decades have gathered information on this and many other family cemeteries in Forkland. For more information about the Forkland Community and its history, visit forklandcomctr.org and forklandlincolnmuseum.org/

While this is a departure from the types of videos I'm known for making and sharing here, I hope that many of you with a keen interest in the history and genealogy of Kentucky will enjoy it. I have an update video in the works concerning the preservation of a home I've featured previously. Thanks for watching and take care all.

This is one of the best narration on cemeteries I have ever seen. It was full of history, and each person had a back ground of who they were. Most people who go to cemeteries, and film do not stay to long, or film many tombstones, have history on them, and some walk right by tombstones jabbering away about a creek near by, an old jar found. This is very irritating, lets face it we all would like to know, do we have relatives buried there, what is the story on some of these people, etc. I realize it takes a lot of time, and you can't always see every grave site, due to the size of the area, but at least show what you can. My Grandfather was born in Kentucky, Pendleton Co. He moved his family to Oklahoma during the land rush. Thank you so much.

This is how videos of cemeteries should be made on youtube to where they and everyone read the headstones.

If you are ever close to Forkland in October you really should go to their folk festival. I am in Casey couny. Also be sure to visit Penns store just down the road. Been there since the 1840's.

Claude Preston SR was my great uncle, my father is Earl Preston. Do you have any history about the Preston side of the family? My grandfather was Kelly Francis Preston. Because his and my grandmother's divorce when my dad was young I don't know anything about the Preston side of the family. I know a whole lot about my grandmother's side they have a family gravesite in Forkland the Russell cemetery. We would go visit Claude and Helen when I was growing up. Helen would fix me a cup of coffee every time I go over there at times. LOL I was real young and about the only time I had coffee back then.

I'm a Navy Veteran and get my disability check to help on what I need to help me start.. my only down fall I don't drive.. but I'm looking for someone or a group that I can fulfill my dream of exploring and adventures of letting the public know history of places that so many have forgotten about. Thanks let me know if your interested.. I'd love to meet up, I'm currently in the Louisville area..
