Something that strikes me is how much you see the women's faces. How often there's this silent, "meaningful" gaze between them. Or how expressive and cocky the villain queen is. Comically evil. I've only played one Homeworld game, Deserts of Kharak, and Rachel was never like that. She was serious, professional, relied on her people and her superiors, and was a character with actual depth instead of relying on too many words and too many quiet "emotional" moments.
Play the original 3. Master-classes by most metrics (Homeworld 2 was a tad weaker due to some choices made in mechanics and story-narrative) and very much worth the money invested.
The Queen was basically a villain out of a mediocre shoujo anime, we're supposed to believe that she commands fleets of starships manned by religious fanatics when she has all the gravitas of a high school mean girl.
BBI didn’t make the remaster, gearbox did, BBI just provided old relic art and source code. Also, DOK being well liked is part of the reason fig campaign started with good morale.

Arch, there is a third option for Blackbird interactive and that is the parent company told them they had complete control only to renege and saddle them with an overlord part way into production. @@Coconut-219 They're not getting vigilante'd by me, I'm simply not buying their game. The "Homeworld 3" experience for me is laughing at them in threads like this one
Homeworld 1 was the first ever video game I bought with money from my first ever job, it was also the first space game I ever purchased. A lot of firsts, but she had a THIRST FOR RUIN, and sucked the life out of the most beloved of Ip's for me. I often tell people they have no idea just how POWERFUL a story telling the first games had, and honestly...I started writing because of this game. So seeing it slaughtered so effortlessly by a talentless hack...is just a true tragedy.
Agreed, played the first one aged 10 or 11 i think: it blew my tiny child mind. Amazing game, and it didnt deserve this - there's nothing left. Everything's gone. Homeworld is burning :(
Mades one ponder if the Hindus had a point about sati. Women without men beyond a certain age don't seem to be a benefit for men, nor really for married women and their children.
I still wish that Homeworld could move past the S'Jet's Karen specifically, but that bloodline generally. Still even that would be better than what HW3 was.
The S'Jets are not a bloodline, but a clan of scientists, but yeah we need more perspectives from the other Kiiths just like with Kiith Somtaaw from Cataclysm
That could work. And if they ABSOLUTELY must acknowledge the incarnate, they could have them splintering into a variety of smaller factions, assimilated or destroyed by the preexisting factions of the homeworld universe. Hell... maybe in a suprise twist, we could have the taidan serving as the protagonists of that campaign, initially crippling the dregs of the incarnate before discovering a precursors technology that they then attempt to utilise to either rebuild their power, claim revenge, or carve a niche for themselves in this new hiigaaran dominated galaxy. Lots of stories that could be told. You just need to work to tell the right kind of stories that are authentic homeworld stories. Lets have more Homeworld stories in Homeworld.
I haven't played homeworld 3 so I cant say anything about that. But I played the other homeworld games and watched the trailer. And the first thing that stood out to me was how whiny the new fleet controller was. Maybe I remember things wrong but I recall the first S'jet to be larger than life in how she was straight to the point and rational like a computer. I don't remember her monologuing about her emotional trauma.
I recommend that the developers and others save all the original cutscenes, all the concept art, and the original story notes (before the interference turned it into the slop that it was). A concerted effort can overhaul this game and make it what it should have been. There's enough of a fanbase to establish a Kickstarter or other crowdfunding campaign to save and improve HW3.
Better plan, file a class action against BBI & Gearbox for false advertising and taking money under false pretenses or making false claims. If BBI has that stuff they can bring that in and say "this is what we were going to do, we were told to make this instead!" that gets them off the hook and places all the blame on Gearbox. Don't give them more money just so they can foul it up all over again.
So basically Blackbird/Gearbox and Joyce ripped off the story of Gundam Seed Destiny and just put their own kind of twist on it. "Who needs free will when one person can determine everything you'll ever do before you're even born."
The worst part is that, aside for the pink hair and glasses, the main character of Homeworld 3 has a striking resemblance to this woman... So it looks like not only she altered the story, she also inserted herself into it.
They always do. They're incapable of doing otherwise. The story must be about "literally them", else they can't understand it. That's why they drone on about "representation" so much. Once you understand this, so much else makes sense.
It reminds me of how the award-winning writer of Naughty World almost had it all done before Sarkeesian crashed into the studios and we all know what happened for TLoU2

From my experience it does no matter how many times we are proven right: we will forever be ridiculed, mocked and accused of being conspirators. People get what they deserve, this game is what they deserve.
I never got the idea of last minute reorganizing of these projects. Like the company puts all this time and effort into a project only for a stranger to knock it all down. You figured there would be a case of Sunk Cost fallacy with the creators watching all their hard work get scrapped.
untill said franchise is politically to the right that it opposes the left of all nature unconditionally at all levels that they will never touch it. same with the fan base. otherwise all franchises will fall to the gostnic leftist scum. just a matter of when.
The story of this game was planned out even back in homeworld 1. The planet killers we know and love, which showed similarities to bentusi technology, were actually a race called TMAT (yes Tiamat which is what the queen in the game is named after) and the devs said the they were the true great evil of the universe. Makes sense, in case you dont know, tiamat is the primordial serpent of chaos and evil itself. The chaose dragon is present in most mythologies includong the bible as the leviathan which is the old serpent mentioned in revelation. This game theoretically shpuld have taken place almost 1000 years after hw2, with the TMAT drawing all the enemies of Hiigara to attack and destroy the kushan once and for all. I also am pretty sure that imogen was not even a character during earlier development. The first/second trailer was obviously Karan S"jet talking, and just had finally grown long hair out. This was going to be the epic conclusion where evil incarnate is destroyed. I also think the sajuuk ship once again would have had Karan at the core. But instead of a story that fulfills all the religious themea and paralells that has been built up over the games, it was ruined at the finish line by woke decision makers.
And the "true great evil of the universe" was a lonely woman to begin with? Nah. They've just paraphrased T-MAT's name for her highness, security blanket mega hitler. The fact they went with it, suggests the devs themselves didn't expect to continue working on the saga after this game releases. Otherwise, they'd keep it for a better adversary.
Where's the WARSHIP Kuun-Laan when it's needed the most? Granted, it was miners again who discovered The Beast. Maybe they will grow to vanquish the threat as their forefathers did.
For those of us who want our multiplayer space game fix, I recommend Nebulous Fleet Command. Its Homeworld style controls with full ship customization and a fantastic electronic warfare suite.
1. it's early access. 2. it has some stuff wrong about fleet combat. 3. it has some engineering errors in ship design. 4. it's not freeware. 5. I'd rather have two decent games than one.
@@Megarith1to3 Although your point is taken, "early access" is bait-n'-switch anymore. Shipbreakers was a good game in EA and then became Marxist propo when fully published. Kerbal II was an unfinished mess in EA and it looks like Take Two are just Take Yo' Cash, because they fired all the devs (so won't finish the game).
100% of the beloved science fiction/fantasy franchises have been ruined over the past decade, because companies do not want thought provoking stories, they want less thought, less progress, and apparently, lots of forgiveness for atrocities they commit or allow to happen whilst they rake in the money. This goes to show that they know how to make the stories and characters, and games that were popular over 20 years (and movies that were popular for 40 years)--they simply deliberately avoid doing so.
Im guessing the devs left that stuff to be datamined intentionally. This was so, men like Arch, could comment on it and bring it to light and show the corporate people just starting to pay attention that if it was left alone it would have done better. The woke, now realizing this content is in will be patching it out to cover up that sales would have been higher without their "fixes" so get copies of the unpatched NOW.
“I didn't have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead.” ― Mark Twain That's the one thing the managing director of Gearbox doesn't understand. Homeworld was always beautiful in it's simplicity of narrative.
I have a feeling those files were left there on purpose by pissed off devs for people like us to find out. To whomever left them in: I salute you and thank you. As for the pink lesbian: hope you end up like Kharak in terms of finding a new job.
If I had a nickel for every time a beloved sci-fi RTS series developed by Relic had a third game that was such a massive stinker that it died shortly after launch and ruined the entire franchise along with it...
I wonder if the HW playerbase is passionate enough to eventually mod the old campaign back into the game, or what we assume it should've been, if enough stuff is datamined/found.
One hundred years ago, a satellite detected an object under the sands of the Great Desert. An expedition was sent. An ancient star ship, buried in the sand. Deep inside the ruin was a single disc that would change the course of our history forever. On the disc was burned a video game ...
My backlog of games to enjoy from 1990-2015 stretches far beyond anything these could entice me for. Also I'd rather spend such time designing my own game than suffering these tendrils.
Taking an established franchise and flips it is a sure way to get The Message through: They don’t care and they hate us - the true fans that were there and make the whole thing worked in the first place. I thought SBI infested trash Suicide Squad is enough to get the higher ups smarten up, and now this.
Many thanks to the author for the correct video, because sometimes you can still meet people admired by the shame called Homeworld3! I'm really sad that the Homeworld franchise was ruined. I am sure that everything happened due to the fact that the owners did not put their souls into their project, people with cold souls who are only interested in profit and nothing more.
Maybe we'll get lucky, and some lovely modders can put the original campaign back together from these pieces. Then, of course, immediately get banned from Nexus for wrongthink, as is becoming tradition.
Agree. For me, when I saw first mission, I said to my friend that Homeworld universe lore was bastardized. When I saw 3rd mission, I said this is DEI feast. When I saw 5 or 6th mission I said that Homeworld has died. Im very thankful for streamers, I saved a lot of money thanks to them. Thank you guys!
The gameplay actually isn't very good. As an example, in mission 5 there are anti-frigate corvettes protecting anti-fighter turrets and you're supposed to use the terrain to sneak around and complete objectives. I built 15 of the basic assault frigate and easily wiped the map of enemies on HARD difficulty. There was no real thought or play testing put into the combat.
just go politically to the right as far as you can go with all levels to ensure that they can never get close to it. it has to be politically hostile to the left and then some for it to be safe. otherwise it will get corrupted to the left.
There was one thing in the story that poped out to me. When she says that should be impossible to hyperspace in objects didn't remember that in Deserts of Karak one of the missions had ships hyperspace into the planet and be fine.
They won't pull anything out of the hat, and they won't turn anything around. Instead they'll double down and suggest that the problem is you, not the product. It's just the way of these things.
If you have a PhD and are not a physician, hard scientist, or (in some cases) historian, it's safe to presume that - while you could self-perpetuate indefinitely within academia - outside in the real world you're good for absolutely nothing.
Game development takes 3-7 years to complete. There are many more such examples like HW3, SushiSquad, AC SamuraiZe in the pipeline that will be released over the next 1-2 years that are too late in the development process to course correct... I'm looking at you GTA6.

I got put on ‘time out’ on the official HW3 FB page for sharing your last video on the subject. Think you might have hit a nerve 😈 What we need now is a ‘Original Story Restoration’ mod to create the game as it should have been.
There's the prequel Deserts of Kharak, but I can see how its focus on planetary-surface warfare would lead some to consider it not a true HW game. Even with it counted toward the total, though, you're right: Deserts came out in 2016, so it's been a good long while since we had a new HW title.
@@MrJay_White We've had 3 "space Homeworlds" for over 20 years now. And if the actual question was about when the modding community fixes this empty can, the answer is likely never. The game and its roadmap of updates is so bad, modders are giving up on it.
Generally speaking, Homeworld fans always wanted the story of an entire people fighting for their place in a hostile universe, with Fleet Command as a cypher for the Hiigaran people. The story was always supposed to represent the big picture. We felt the enormity of the loss of Kharak from a combination of the musical score, the sight of Kharak burning, the muted grief and fury of Fleet Command, barely masked by a veneer of professionalism, and the constrained, bitterly incomplete, but palpable satisfaction of Fleet Intel reporting the death of the Taiidani captives under interrogation. We don't see their faces, we don't hear the screams of the civilians on Kharak as they're incinerated, we just know they're there, the scale of the tragedy doesn't need to be implied when the entire northern hemisphere of Kharak is charcoal black. The trauma is processed just enough that the player fills in the blanks with their own emotional response, and that response is given a catharsis in the form of launching a desperate and furious galactic crusade against the Taiidan Empire. It gave the player a very strong motivation to shepherd the last remnants of a people on the edge of extinction to their rightful home. HW3 by comparison is actually really embarrassingly juvenile. It's a coming of age story that is a jarringly bad fit for the setting, the situation and the consequences of failure. There's nothing INHERENTLY wrong with Imogen S'Jet as an idea, but they zoomed in too far, made her too emotionally vulnerable for the player to think of as a leader and humanized her far too much. Karan S'Jet was always an ethereal presence, she wasn't her body, she was the Mothership, the Bentusi even had a name for her, "Unbound". She became almost a godlike figure, like a legend should be. Unfortunately Karan was given the same treatment to the detriment of the story. They turned something epic into something personal; it feels like they took someone's journal that they've written at the direction of their therapist, and sketched a generic sci-fi story out of it. It's bad because it's self-indulgent...a writer who was less self-interested and self-satisfied could have taken the exact same ingredients and made them into something that was recognizably Homeworld.
Thanks for the heads-up was actually looking forward to this one thinking to buy it for nostalgia reasons, now this one goes on the list buy only with 90% discount for the including everything version when its in the bargain bin at steam in a few years

The incarnate queen looks like Donkey from Shrek whenever she makes a smirk or smug face. It's fuckin goofy.

So, basically we should buy a DLC with the original story. Not just pay for it, but fund its development up front.
How about no?
So basically Blackbird/Gearbox and Joyce ripped off the story of Gundam Seed Destiny and just put their own kind of twist on it.

Correct, and when they've got total control of Steam, you can kiss goodbye to your library as they memory-hole any problematic content.

@@raghardeishi972 >It's not freeware

The commissar, the collaborator, and the cooperative are all equally guilty.
I never thought it would happen to Homeworld, but I guess it did...
sadly that pink haired girl got what he wanted and dont care

Im guessing the devs left that stuff to be datamined intentionally. This was so, men like Arch, could comment on it and bring it to light and show the corporate people just starting to pay attention that if it was left alone it would have done better. The woke, now realizing this content is in will be patching it out to cover up that sales would have been higher without their "fixes" so get copies of the unpatched NOW.
mods will put that back in and if they tried to patch it everyone will know and can undo the patch.

The gameplay actually isn't very good.
