- The 4Runner gets a long awaited redesign from Toyota for 2025. On the outside there is all new sheet metal, LED lighting and wheels. On the inside you will be greeted by a full soft-tex interior, 12.3in infotainment screen and standard size sunroof. Under the hood is a 2.4L turbocharged inline-4 mated to a hybrid system. Does the 2025 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro make you want to SELL your V6 4Runner?

I just bought a 2024 TRD ORP this month because it has the V6 and limited amount of electronics. Suits me much better than the new Toyotas. Reliability, longevity, and overall build quality are the most important things to me in a truck/SUV...not to mention I got it for under MSRP. I love it!!
I think made the right choice
Got my '24 TRD ORP mid-July. No regrets - AT ALL !!!
At the same time, that engine tech is 20 years old. MPG of an V8 with V4 level power. The ride is way too soft for mall crawling and daily driving, plus that famous nose dive. If you haven't experienced it, look out for the extremely sensitive brake assist - literally dangerous to drive in certain situations.
Sorry what does ORP mean?

Idk man the reliability issues from the Tundra and Tacoma make me HEAVILY question taking this over a V6?
Same. I'll need to see this generation perform for at least two years before I even consider buying new.
Outside of the V6 the newer one is better in every way. Couldn’t standing that 2009 interior styling of the older one
@@user-FTRU6GJit’s literally identical to my 2019 interior. Just with some newer material. Not worth an upgrade to lose my V6.
Do you have sources for reliability claim?
@@prasad530how about just searching it for yourself. It’s all over the internet.
I think Joe Nissan really has a golden opportunity here to resurrect the Xterra and put in the V6 to lay the smackdown on the 4Runner. Then basically, it would have to keep an eye on the new 2026 Honda Passport, also with a V6.
I would KILL (figuratively) for a new Xterra.
Facts the frontier is killing the Tacoma
Basically new sheet metal over the Nissan Terra as it is based on the F Alpha platform of the Frontier.
@DarkJediChrisG-1425 in the near future Nissan will also be getting rid of their v6. Just like everyone else.
Stupid toyota rid of the v8....
Wahhh wahhh. Welcome to the future.
4 cylinder hybrid is the future
Blame EMISSION... I meant governement
75k as. opposed to 55k of 24 pro, for an experimental turbo 4 hybrid
Gloss black fenders looks horrible
Wrap em 😂
Looks fine to me. What looks horrible is the tire shine.
@@atweber Looks cool but will get beat up beyond repair
That's will probably be an option
Agreed 💯
Hi Joe and Lori. Just wanted to see if you guys are safe with the storms aftermath. Hope all is well with everyone including Oscar and all the cars.
Thanks for thinking of us!
I just bought 2024 limited white pearl it's awesome!
Good call
Same here. 2024 limited white pearl. Tinted the windows and got some husky liners. 5k oil changes and I’m driving it a long time. I wouldn’t mind getting the TRD Pro 17” wheels at some point, they look much better.
A 4 cylinder turbo engine designed to last 61,000 miles.... and expect oodles and oodles of recalls. Stick with the gen 5.
I think you may be right!
Hiluxes have been rocking 4 cylinder turbos for a decade now. You people just like to bitch about things obsessively.
Just don't buy all new stuff, regardless of brand and you're good.
53K guess? Based on their recent price spikes I’m guessing more like 67K
time to get a new job and quit crying
@@shutupnoob No crying, opinion on pricing. I don’t give faceless insults over a comment section so I’ll wish you a good day instead.
That is WOW… I want one..
I’m glad that you are loving this one!
Thank you Joe I like the way you explain.. so interesting…😊
@@djvic0530that means the world
It’s already fall and they are still not yet out. What’s really going on here Joe?
Just imagine driving those gloss black fender flares in between thorny bushes. One off-road trip and your 4runner will never look nice ever again.
There's a reason the Wrangler has plain black plastic fenders on most of its trim lines. Gloss black was definitely a Marketing dept decision 😂
yeah a purple haired non-binary made that choice
Toyota is trash now....all their vehicles are horrible. This is the worst 4runner of all time.
It will be interesting to see what happens!
No, toyota rav4 camry and corolla are still solidly built, I've had my 2022 camry hybrid w no problems and I'm super happy w it. Same w 2019 corolla hatchback.
Agreed. Rav4 is goated. I have 2017 gen and gf has 2023 gen, both are amazing and the absolute definition of reliable. Naturally aspirated and no hybrid bs. @@VictorRamirez-ut5lk
Just here to answer the question in the title.....
No.
Take care.
Thanks! I appreciate it!
Willing to bet my 23 year old 4 runner is more reliable. Time will tell
I think you are spot on Steve!
TOYOTA NEEDS TO UPDATE THEIR KEY FOB. this goes in our pockets, we want it to be SMALL!!!!! not as BIG as possible.... jezus how hard is that to understand toyota... joe great job! ❤
Joe when are you doing the first drive Joe of this brand new 4Runner.
Should be happening soon
I love your reviews! Hearing about pickle juice being an electrolyte that you should drink out of the bag.....all the things that can fit in the door pockets, etc, you keep me laughing. Also, I'll never give up my 21 4Runner sr5 for a new one.
Good to see you JOE my official car reviewer your reviews are spot-on and in depth When My Friends Ask me about a car or thinking of buying a car all I have to do is refer them to Joe Raiti and the Joe Raiti Library of vehicles, it's better than the Encyclopedia Britannica 😁keep up the good work sir
No sir. With the transmission issues the Taco has and the engine issues the Tundra has I'll wait a few years to let them work out the issues. Keeping my V6 as long as I can.
JR I'm happy you guys are okay & survived another big tango tango hurricane, love ya, tony stewart
Thanks Tony for caring about us! I appreciate that !
HAAATE the gloss black. Not a fan of the overall design.
Damn, the 4Runner looks good! Looks amazing!
Love it!!!!!!
Don't like the double Hulk Hogan front stache 😅
You are teh second person to say that!
I have a 2023 4Runner TRD PRO in magnetic gray metallic and I love it!! I’m not interested in the new 4Runner, but there are new features that I like about the new 2025 4Runner.
Needs to have a few years to work the kinks out.
"I wish my 4runner had a 4cyl hybrid and a defective transmission" - nobody ever
😂😊
New small engine and new transmission no longer built on top Toyota plant in Japan. The 5th gen was not based on Tacoma this one is 100% Tacoma
It’s still built in Japan in the Tahara plant
Is always like that when new model comes
Never. I will keep my 22 Army Green TRD Off Road Premium! The black gloss pieces ruin it entirely for me.
You have a keeper for sure!
I love it! Mine would barely go over the curb at Starbuck's for my off roading.
You are freaking hilarious!
Nope! The 6th gen is too expensive, not as good looking, and lower reliability.
We will see how it all plays out for sure!
The 4 runner used to have it own look now it looks like a Tacoma I would have been happy with a 2024 4Runner just a new power train and some new tech they would sell thousands
only in black will this look good... how long in the Arizona sun before that gloss black on the fenders start peeling off??? 4 years?
Sure I could hop on some gear for that trunk area. Deca, Primo, Anavar, Test, D-bal, enclomiphene, Tren.
Perfect Zombie 🧟♂️ Apocalypse vehicle!! I want 2!
I will let Toyota know
Going cost savings/budget by sourcing laptop aspect ratio/size center display. Hate to see that. Could have incorporated that better into the dash instead of bolting it on.
I think this all new 4Runner will be a hit, but new Toyotas have become so expensive. Do you think there are Lots of buyers out there who can afford this truck? I am saving to buy the 2026 Camry LE with all the packages for $33, 973 plus taxes. That's expensive for me.
It’s going to be interesting to see how it all pans out
The tacos have actually become somewhat not-exorbitantly priced
Looks like a RAV4 and Tacoma had a baby😮
The 4Runner already had the tacoma front
when is the regular Toyota Highlander getting a update
Joe and Lori and Steve keep up the good work real true and I love the video 👍
Ok let's see the changes, l'm all ears!!👊🇦🇷
Thanks for tuning in
This makes me want to go out and buy a 2024. This looks so damn cheaply made and derivative
Tell em about it!
The 2024 gen is one of the ugliest cars on the planet, inside and out.
Let's see how long that engine lasts LMAO
No replacement for more displacement
love the new 4runner
Thanks for letting me share it with you
has been delay until next year.
I bought a 24" SR5 Premium within the past month because I'd rather own a dependable vehicle. Toyota has proven (at least to me) that they wish to make questionable quality V4 and V6's trucks with turbos Ford/GM/Ram ALL offer selectable options for their truck lines: 8, 6 (turbo) or 4 (turbo) and Diesels, Yet Toyota is of the mindset of "take it or leave it".... kind of looks like people decided to leave it!
Good call! I am glad that you got one!
Don’t see why everyone is so concerned about the 4cyl reliability. If you have the money for this, you can afford an extended warranty.
Fun fact: each time Toyota puts a TRD badge on this vehicle, they add $2500 to the price.
Joe, your $53k pricing guess is way off. The Tacoma TRD OR starts north of $50k, and the Sequoia TRD Pro is $80k, so there’s no way this will be under $65k.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one Richard!
Not a chance....24 TRD Terra Pro arriving in two weeks. The 25 has hints of a Ford Explorer from the side and the front end does not appeal to me. 4 cylinder turbo hybrid?!? Get outta here!!!
Yeah I feel you Dennis!
If the price for the new Tacoma TRD Pro is 69,000, how are you going to say that you think that it will be 52,000? I think you are way off base. For me, it will be the same as the Tacoma.
I was saying starting!
Very nice, more practical than a Jeep Rubicon. 😊
Then again, a V8 would have made this Toyota perfect. Even Jeep shoe-horned a Hemi 392 into their Rubicon.
This is a good point but we all know if they are getting rid of the V6, then a V8 is out of the question.
Temu fender flares...nice
This is such a gorgeous and muscular looking truck...it's such a shame they couldn't put a TTV6 in it at least. it's gonna be weird seeing this thing whistling and sounding like a hair dryer lol
Or even a naturally aspirated V6
The 3rd gen and below also had 4 bangers. I really don’t get the hate on this one. That said, keeping my 5th gen till it dies.
They weren’t turbo 4’s. They also weren’t hybrids.
Love it
I’m so glad to hear that
Finally, a redesign!
Really beautiful design
Nope, not with all of the recalls. I’ll keep my reliable v6 that has been going well for years and years.
That seems like a smart move!
Yup and get a TUNDRA
Keeping my 16 4 runner i will enjoy my 16mpg and 300k miles of life 😅
She is a keeper!
The new 4runner trd pro looks like a post apocaliptic car... I love it❤ the Mad Max 4runner
That is so great to hear!
The spare tire should be on the inside. I would have preferred an inline six cylinder motor.
There is no room on the inside
Joe it's good looking I want gray ok thanks for the updates you all have a great weekend ❤uall later
Thanks Todd! I hope you have a great weekend!
I am pretty sure its going to mirror the TRD Tacoma Price. Probably 65k
4Runners cost more than Tacomas.
Nope with the engine issues rather keep the V6 that is tried and true.
I am going to miss the V6!
Fuck no.
No. The end. PS yes, zonk, zonk, zonk the gloss black.
Thanks for sharing your hoensty!
A V-8 is a MUST! This is AMERICA, NOT japan or Europe! 😡
A V8 would not fit in this vehicle.
No
Didn't you covered the same model 5 months ago?
Possibly
With the tacoma isn't the TRD Pro the top dog?
No it is not. It is the Trail Hunter
All Black TRD Pro in all red seats can’t wait 🥵
Now we are talking!
Ah a real 4x4. Not a fake one Honda
I see what you did there!
happy with my 2024 trd offroad
As you should be!
Great looks, bad engine!
That is what some are saying!
My next truck
Oh wow that is a serious statement!
If the new 4Runner TRD Pro starts around 53k they are going to still sell very well but my guess going off of new Tacoma prices, I sadly think the TRD pro is going to be 70k
They had to ugly it up to keep the Tacoma company. That's sad. I'll keep my '88 with the 3.0, thank you very much. Paid $3k for it and it's been my daily driver in Montana for 17 years now. Runs and drives great for a 36+ year old 4WD. I'm guessing the super low mileage of only 263,000+ miles has a lot to do with it. The best part is that it's the real deal, not some outrageously overpriced luxury vehicle.
hell no
Thanks for your vote!
My wife and I have a 2024 Pro in Terra on the way. Probably one of the last ones made. Our local dealership told us they sold all of their last allocation and don’t expect any more 5th gen’s. We scrambled to make some calls and were lucky enough to find a canceled reservation. If the 6th gen proves to be really really good we will give them 3 years to work out the bugs and maybe trade for one.
Turbo's all the way. Just don't buy all new stuff during the first 2 years and you're good. The hybrid im not digging though cause it cramps shit up. Especially on a body on frame.
Wish the seqouia had a v6 twin turbo setup.
No....👎
Maybe you will like it more when you see it in person Brian!
Toyota can piss off. I bet this will be a huge POS just like the new Tacomas and Tundras, all while charging 10-20k more for the same trim compared to the outgoing generation. I say this as a huge toyota fan…who will only buy used and proven vehicles from this point forward.
The Trd Pro tacomas are 60k or more this will be the same as that or more and I don’t think it’s worth it at all. Get yourself a Colorado Zr2 it’s 50k Bronco Sasquatch 50k or a Rubicon for 50k.
No
I appreciate you chiming in!
ZONK no red stitching on the steering wheel.
People were always complaining about the V6 and transmission. I think people just love complaining never happy.
Are the knuckles made of aluminum also?
Interesting that they kept the four cylinder turbo. A little while back, Toyota came out and said that maybe a turbo four cylinder might have been a mistake for "towing" purposes.
I love the new look. But it’s crap. The new turbo is already having problems in the taco. The v6 should have just been revamped… and 53.. I’d bet 65…
Thank you for the great review. It's great to see a review of a car that isn't sold in Japan. This is the first time I've seen a car review replicate human movement when off-roading.
People are still gonna buy this. Please don't let stealership fool you! Your childish move would make other people leave in dust. Pay your car for its own worth. No more wait,no more than Msrp
Fender flares should be matte black rubberized plastic. Those gloss black flares are going to be scratched to shit in no time.
Just picked up a '23 ORP with only 4K miles. Paid $47K, a new one would probably be close to $60K. Will keep it until the new one has proven its reliability.
Why on earth does the 4runner even exist anymore... fucking Toyota cannibalizing itself. Seriously what is the point of the 4runner/land cruiser/gx550/sequoia/highlander/etc.... there are too many SUV's all slowing mergng into 1... WTF why dont they just create 1 perfect vehicle in each category? SMH!
The gloss black fenders will wear perfectly since they'll let you show off every last scratch you picked up on your epic adventures!
I'm sure there are some nanny-state regulations behind the reasons we can't have a lower-tech line of cars and trucks with modern safety structures, drivetrains, etc with analog gauges, and no screens... I have a 2014 Caravan with a Bluetooth, AM FM CD Satellite radio, that's all this guy needs! I have "paper-GPS" AKA a map! Turn your phone off and DRIVE!
Finally some additional power as we have all wanted for ever and a transmission that doesn’t shift every two seconds!!!
A 4Runner is what I imagine Joe would drive if he was into SUV’s instead of fast and powerful sedans or monster power coupes .
Wannabe Tahoe or grand Cherokee. Terrible job Toyota specially with the poor 4 cylinder
2015 LTD owner, 210k miles, so I'm kinda looking around at whats next. Not ready to spend that kind of $$$ until I see how the powertrain behaves. The fender flares are indeed horrendous. Body color would be light years better. Unfortunately I'm not seeing anything on the market that really has my attention. I go back and forth on maybe finding a lightly used GX460 or LX570/ Land Cruiser.
