Having dogs all my life of all kinds of breeds, I can tell you without hesitation, that my current beagle, and the one previous to him, are the smartest dogs I have ever had.
We have an remote control feeder / camera for feeding when we are at work. The other day i heard a “ding” and a rumble. Then another “ding” and a rumble. Louis had figured what the manual dispense button was. 😜
My late beagle(RIP) knew how to open the car windows to stick her head out. She knew how to turn on the heated mattress pad and how to turn on the heated seats in the car. She knew how to open the handicapped doors at the home where my dad is currently living and would pull him from his room to the atrium for our visits. I could drop her leash and tell her to go get him. The aide would hand dad the leash and off he would go.. If it was time to go on a walk she would open the front door of the house using the door handle and bark at me. Her best skill was pushing herself under my head and becoming a pillow. I showed her none of these things, she learned by observation.
If I have a high value treat in my hand, My beagle will follow the command 100 percent of the time! If I don't have a treat in my hand, he will ignore my command 70 percent of the time cause he knows it is not going to get him anywhere 😆

My beagle is very good at adapting. She likes to observe and learn. She even learned how to open the gate by herself. She never take food unless it was given to her and she never put her front paws on the kitchen table when trying to take a peek when we're trying to eat. If that's what you called dumb then you're dumb. 🤣
Frank the Wonder Beagle can - when he sees food at my mother's house at the dinner table - trick my mother into thinking he wants to go outside, get her to open the door, pretend to go outside, then he'll jump up at her dinner table into the place where the food is or will be, and pretend to be me. If that's not intelligence, not sure what is.
Whoever says beagles are stupid, were tripping or drunk. They’re stubborn sure, and difficult to train. But boy do they read situations and can do anything other popular breeds can do.
My 7 weeks old Beagle always pee and poo on the same spot after only two times of correction (i moved her above it), could walking nicely and focusing on me with a leash and always could get the treat from a DIY multiple hole plastic bottle. She even already understand for not "beg" before her meal time by "sitting and waiting" patiently. Sad part is she gets bored so easily, if i give her usual toys she will play it maybe for minutes before lost interests and leave it 😅 The cutest thing is she's so clingy and always wants to sleep in my lap 😍🥰
My beagle knows how to sit , down, roll over, give the paw or five, give hugs, and I tie a cord to the back sliding door and he can open it from the outside or the inside whenever he wants. Love my Beagle.

I got mine at that age as well. Be prepared for a lot of potty messes inside. Also be prepared to get bitten a bunch! Always have toys near by to distract the pup from your hand. Don't get mad when she bites you (I know it's hard) but she is just a baby.
