I have 3 months old Beagle puppy and the recommendation on my dog food's bag is almost 2 cups daily. I always give her 1 cup with a few fresh boiled chicken meat since she was 7 weeks old. Yesterday i brought her to the Vet to get her another vaccination booster and her weight only 3.3kg. I know some Beagles are under 13" and some above 15", but i concern about her less weight gain. My Beagle is so active, she loves walking (i walk her twice a day) and playing. She also does so well with commands and potty spot. She always has enough rest (inside her kennel or her couch whenever she wants to sleep) and her poo is so healthy. I already tried to increased the amount of her dog food to 2 cups daily gradually since last week, with the result she left her bowl with leftover dog food and when i gave her back to 1 cup daily, she cleaned the bowl. I only give treats for training or recalling commands, with some treats even only chopped fruits. Is this normal? I became concern because i have a neighbor who has 4 months old Beagle and she is twice bigger than mine (both Beagles are females and they're friends ☺).
My late beagle(RIP) ate every other day irregardless of the food provided. We walked two to three miles everyday after work, so she had plenty of exercise. On Sunday morning, she would get a farm fresh raw egg. If the egg was not provided by noon on Sunday, the howling and whining would begin and there was no stopping the noise without a raw egg(store bought would not cut it either). The other six days of the week there was no fuss made about food, just Sunday.
Our Beagle is fifteen but full of life. She wants to take long walks (and is totally tired afterward), but she enjoys them. My husband feeds her cooked macaroni, rice with her food. She loves it.

My beagle just had a stay in the animal hospital for what ended up being deemed FUO (fever of unknown origin) and that was the first sign there was a problem, she wasn't INHALING her food. She wouldn't eat from the slow feeder bowl at all and only a few bites from a regular bowl or by hand. If I'd just chalked it up to being nothing and didn't take her temperature she could have died if we didn't take her to the ER when we did. It wasn't over several meals either. It came on FAST. Definitely pay attention if your beagle just suddenly refuses to eat. That was $1000 vet bill and extreme worry but at least she's okay.

I will be hand feeding my puppy, for interactive games and brain exercises. I’ll make sure he knows the food is coming from me. Instead of laying it on the floor and expecting him to eat it. He has to work for it 💪🏻 you need to put value on the food, not just let them think it drops out of the sky. 💖
Just a suggestion...If hand feeding becomes a habit it can cause problems in future. Imagine one day you are absent or not feeling well to hand feed your puppy.He can refuse to eat at all,even as an adult.(it happens telling from experience) and They don't think food drops from sky. They are smart enough to know you are the one who gives them food. My beagle is 2.5 years old now, he knows the time of his meals. Whenever I open the container he knows his food is coming &stands in front of his Bowl. Of course you can always train your puppy by hand feeding him some treats, that's how he knows "if I want that treat I have to follow the commands"
@@theluckyahga-l3674 it’s not fully hand feeding. It’s partially. And it’s from a 20 year plus professional dog trainer, so I’m not too worried, thanks for the concern though 🙂 the use of food and treats will be used effectively. I am and will be home 24/7. have no worries about him refusing meals or eating.
@@theluckyahga-l3674 I recommend watching some McCann dog training videos here on UA-cam. Very informative and stops lots of behaviour issues before it happens, like separation anxiety.
@@spiritualalchemist3283 Thank a lot for the informations. Those videos really helps. With your experience you know much better than me. My beagle is my 3rd puppy. I did a few mistakes raising my past two angels. So I learned from that & raising my him very carefully now. 🙂

my beagle is like a toddler with food. She won’t touch her kibble , I started making her food and she ate that for a few days, tried different kibble or wet food and she won’t eat it. I even subscribed to service that tailors food for her but she didn’t want it. she will eat ground beef, chicken, turkey. For now.

@@menash_05 lol not picky at all. At the moment she is more or less fine with wet food, home food, and some other things but not dry food and not many dog food. When they say that they have no preference it is not entirely true.
My beagle had only one reason... "I am really not feeling good." And if she refused something like ham, well we better went straight to our vet.

have you tried both wet and dry food? try to get food with 70% meat and over, as this is what’s best for your beagle. try different meats, mixed meats, and note down his reactions to each food. you can even mix wet and dry, though he may have an issue with the consistency.

My beagle never did like this because if some food was in my hand he will attack and take the food and when I feed him he eats like a monster who was not eaten for days 😂 lol
if a beagle does not eat that is a concern because I know that beagles are not picky eaters and will Gobel anything you put in front of them.

hello! something my vet taught me was to take a pill and hide it in a piece of sausage. feed it to your dog by hand, she will hopefully eat it.

@@blink735 hello, just to let you know, beating a dog will not teach it to stop, as it doesn’t understand why you are doing that to it, and it will forget because they have a short memory. please instead just keep plastic away from your dog so you don’t have to beat it in the first place. or you can show that you are upset by this behaviour and a respectful dog will understand.
