When I give my dog a hug while he’s sitting up, he lifts his paw on my shoulder to hug back. He started doing that on his own and it’s the cutest thing ever!

As a man that ended up on the streets after an accident with my dog. I went through hell to keep my dog. A dog having one owner his/her whole life is extremely important. Getting a dog should have an unbreakable commitment. The best thing about a dog is loyalty and that's what I give all my animals. Till death do us part. Bitter sweet endings.

"Dogs can't feel guilt" My dog came down one day slouched over with tail between his legs and refused to come over when called and went straight to his bed and curled himself. I even waved his favorite treat at him, and wondered why he didn't come over. Found out he had poo-pooed on the carpet next to the fire place and I hadn't found out until hours later, when I was wondering why he didn't want to come hang out with me next to the fireplace.

They clearly show some form of anticipation of your reaction when they have done something they know you dislike. Whether they truley understand regret, or if they just dont want to be scolded, they show an understanding of a past action. So they know why they're being scolded.

I'm calling BS on that too. I can always tell when my dog has done something bad. She looks horribly guilt-ridden. If it was just an accident I don't make a big deal out of it. It was my fault for not letting her out often enough.

Same with my dogs , I can say a thing in ' complex ' and very different sentences and they know excately
what I tell them . Also they do in 4 different languages too . Im from Denmark and my dogs they understand
Danish , English , Chinese and Tagalog ( Philippino languages ) . I Lived in China in many years and now
in philippines so I have used all languages just as normal and they simply just understand .
I can even ' mix ' a sentence and say something half in Danish and ( example ) finish in chinese and they
fully understand it , they even try to ' talk / reply' back by using sounds to reply .
Sometimes they can complain if they want something and I say no then they start ' discussing ' with talk
like noises and when I for example repeat ' I told it is a no ' they really argue , it is actually funny .
Dogs are more clever than many people think / know .

I think things like kissing a dogs face really does depend on the dog. My dog at times likes face kisses and will shove her face into yours so you can shower her with affection but other times she pulls away. It's so important to get to know the dog first and read their body language. When my dog was a puppy she almost broke my nose on several occasions from shoving her face into mine during snuggle time.

Dogs, like people are individuals. I know someone who was so happy to see a dog one time, they bent down to kiss the dog, whom they had never met, and the dog bit her on the face. We have two Frenchies and a Scottie that are the kissiest dogs we've ever known. It really depends, I think, on if they see you as a leader of their pack, because that is their family.

Actually some dogs LOVE belly rubs. One of my mom’s best friends has one of the sweetest and friendliest dogs I’ve ever met, Jackson, and he’s such a love bug AND a cuddle bug! At friendly gatherings and parties, he always tries to make sure he’s noticed by as many people as possible. And if he wants a belly rub, he rolls over onto his back and he gives you the “puppy dog eyes” begging look that says “please PLEASE give me a belly rub” and once you do, he follows you everywhere you go. So actually I think dogs not liking belly rubs is actually for just particular dogs, because I’ve been around dogs my entire life and every single one, including the first one I’ve had and the one I have now, all love belly rubs

Dogs are as different as snow flakes. This video is like a general list of rules to abide by when approaching an unfamiliar dog or until you get to know their do’s and don’ts. They all like similar things and yes they mostly do “Dog stuff”, but I have four different Breeds from a tea cup Yorkie, a French bulldog, a pit bull, and a Belgian malinois. Each one of their personalities are very much different and they still function as a pack! ❤ and can understand fairly complex commands.

My girlfriend's dog may be an outlier, but she loves getting cuddled. If you kiss her in her face of her muzzle she won't lean away but turn towards you to lick your face. Something that surprises me is that we can really cuddle her, like fully wrap your arms around and she doesn't show any sign of stress or discomfort. She's been raised with lots of attention since she was a pup, and doesn't really understand 'personal space' though. I don't mind, I love that dog.
Also, keep in mind what breed your dog is, different breeds needs different things. Don't dress your husky because it's cold outside, and don't expect shepherds or work breeds to sit in an appartment all day and be content.

    • @Elysiumsw
      @Elysiumsw 2 роки тому +7

My dog is the same way. When he's on my lap, I'll make "kissy" noises and he'll put his nose against mine. He also likes me petting his muzzle too. When we are on the couch together he'll just plop his muzzle in my hand and poke me until I pet him on it.
I was always told to get dogs comfortable with you touching their ears/muzzle when they are young. It'll make it easier for vets when they are older. ...lol My dog will let me touch those places, just not the vet. Oh well.

Another misnomer is that a dog doesn’t know whether he’s being spoiled or not. You can live in a big house with lots of toys and walks and play time but your dog just thinks it is normal. Conversely, he could be in a one room shack, walked infrequently, 1 or 2 toys to play with. If they have love and affection from their owner, that’s all they care about.

Quality of time & attention are indeed important. Your dog knows the difference between an intentional, focused rubdown where you say how much you love him & a lukewarm distracted pat on the head. Same with walks. I just consider walks with my dog to be for him, so he can sniff & pee on his favorite things. 😹

Older dogs will be scared and it could make their life shorten because of the stress.

Scientists have proven that dogs DO feel guilt and they know when they've done something wrong. They're pack animals, and as such, these things are necessary. But that said, you shouldn't yell at them for doing bad things, you should instead try to figure out why they're doing the things. Maybe they are bored or understimulated?

Yell as in screaming at them no. But raising your voice a bit. And telling them. You know better than what you just did what's wrong with you like to do that that's a bad dog. Or something along that line. We generally have your dog put his head down insane and disappointed and then you will try to please you and get your forgiveness. But whether it be a dog a child or a grown adult. At times we're going to be bored or unstimulated it's a part of life. Teach him how to deal with that emotion. And you will have a lot less problems when you're gone. The dog knows that it pleases you that they watch her home when you're gone. That that is his job. he will be happy knowing he's pleasing you and not be so all the anxiety when you're gone. And I'm having a dog companion like another dog helps a lot as well

My dog does have a jacket because he doesn't like getting hurt. Mine is a weirdo because he loves fireworks, and he has an emotional attachment to the towel he was brought home in as a puppy that we still have nearly eleven years later.

I've always had dogs most of them have been 80+ lbs I've mostly had dogs that are 120 the 165. And I try to get dogs that need work because of abuse. I have never been formally trained but I spent a lifetime educating myself. My family often is referred to me as a dog whisperer. I've learned this being laid back and treating your dog like it's another person it's the best way to go with a dog. Not only can they understand complex commands. But they also have no problem understanding multiple commands for the same thing and the same gesture for multiple commands depending on the situation. For example I can be sitting on the couch and my dog can be in the other room I can have my head towards me and he will come. And standing outside with him I can now my head towards the house and he will go in the house. And scolding is the best way to teach your dog is wrong. Treat your dog right love respect and unconditional love. He will spend his days trying to please you and if you inform them by scolding them what displeases you the time to not do it again. If you let them know what it is just calling them about why you explain to them not to do it no more. Whoever the idiot is I thought of ignore the things you don't like and they will stop. probably has a dog with the worst behavior in the world. The dogs doing something wrong and you ignore it because you don't want to address it thinking addressing it will cause him to keep doing it you are 100% incorrect how's you to know if you don't tell him.

@youtube commenter I saw a program about dogs (more than one actually, but whatever). And how is that any sillier than saying a dog doesn't have complex feelings? It's darned pack animals. They need complex feelings to function in a pack. Yet, people say this a lot too. (Maybe because it excuses them to do mean things to their animals?) Also, I've had dogs. They understand quite many words. Many experiments with "talking dog carpets" (or whatever they're called) have been made. The dogs can communicate pretty well for being an animal. You can also search yourself. Also, "up to 200 words" doesn't mean "every single dog knows 200 words". It means some understand way less, but smarter ones can get that many. (Just in case you don't English very well). Dogs have the same level of intelligence as 2-3 year old humans. (They understand about 200 words). Also: "As for language, the average dog can learn 165 words, including signals, and the “super dogs” (those in the top 20 percent of dog intelligence) can learn 250 words, Coren says." So, instead of questioning something you know nothing about, how about educating yourself?

How do we know how many words an average adult human knows? How do we know crows are intelligent? Science, and testing. It's not like it's magic.

Than I need to be able to read that dog. Their person just left and may have separation anxiety and a stranger in their home. I always take the dog for a walk right away. I let the dog decide how much interaction they want from me. Keeping their schedule is why I go to their home. I always adjust walks in the summer. 100 degrees is tough on a dog. I gotta say, these are all 100% correct as someone who has been working with dogs for years and has many of them.
Although one thing you missed is how much dogs hate when you blow on them, in dog language it basically means you want nothing to do with them which is pretty mean.
Another thing is don’t take your dog on a walk with an extremely short leash, it isn’t entertaining for them and it isn’t sufficient exercise since dogs needs tons of exercise. If you live in the country teach them to walk off leash, my dogs adore off leash walks.
I also suggest clearing out a space in your home for them to have a play area.

But if he had an accident he would hide but it was just an accident. I didn’t punish him I just found a dog walker that would help him during the day so he would not have to wait so long. Much happier dog and happier owner. The dog walker would often take him to a dog park so he can play and when I got home he was too tired to get off the couch … slowly he would stretch and greet me. Nah sorry but they don’t. He’s likely just reacting to the key words he knows. Dogs just don’t have the mental capacity to understand sentence structure. They may understand for example if you say “do you want to go on a walk”. They are picking up on the words “walk” and “go” because you likely say it each time before it happens. But they have no idea what “want” or “you” means because these don’t have a physical representation for them to relate with an object or action. People like to think their dog understands sentences just because they can pick up on key words within one.

If your dog can do this, you have the only dog in the world which can as this has never been demonstrated under test conditions. If I take my dog for a walk and the dog is ahead and there is options for going straight on, or turning right. I say "go right" or sometimes "we are going right". It understands and goes right. Is this because it understood the concept of "go" and "right" separately? Or is it actually a mixture of the specific command and physical language? As humans we weirdly turn right more and tend to take right turning circular walks, I also probably don't say anything alot when taking the straight option as is no change in direction so when I do it likely means right, regardless of what I say. It is easy to mistake understanding from body language and single verbal commands as actually understanding complex sentences.

Guilt is described as a self conscious emotion and requires reflection on a past action and empathy to understand how this may have affected others. Keep in mind this is all general stuff about dogs. Some dogs are smarter than others and have different personalities. Mine loves getting in your face and getting her head scratched. I loved reading everyone’s comments and how much they enjoy their doggies too.

I disagree with the final part of dogs "not feeling shame" or "not knowing they done something wrong".
There were plenty of times where I did arrive my home, acted normally as I would always do, and found my dog hiding on his bed or avoiding being too happy on my arrival. I didn't even knew what was up, got a little confused, and only after I did find poop or piss made in wrong places, or some stuff broken.

Totally agree with you. I have two dogs and can tell which one did what by the way they act. If the dogs were just reacting to how I was acting then both would react "guilty", however only the one who is guilty acts guilty.

Exactly what I was going to say. You can come home, not know anything is wrong at all, and the dog is already tucking their tail between their legs and you're like? Wait, did something happen?

He doesn't poop. He usually has found something to eat somewhere. I can tell by his face as soon as I walk in the door. I just go to the usual hiding places and yup. Before I can say anything - he has already "grounded" himself. Don't even know what to do. Never had a dog before. So weird. He is so weird. Eats me out of house and home but he is so darned cute. And he is so afraid of loud noises (daughter got as a stray off the street, lots of trauma) I just hate yelling at him so I just let him stay in his self-imposed exile for a bit. SMH.

First of all, there was two number twos. Another, I went on a vacation and left my dog with my friend. The people next door were doing some drilling and construction stuff, and my dog ran away. Luckily, he had his collar on. I got a call and they told me "If you don't want the dog, I'll keep it." I told him I wanted it and laughed. He told me how beautiful my dogs eyes were! Me, too has never seen a dog with such beautiful eyes. My dogs name was Tazzie

We don't have dogs but when one of our cats was a baby, we were watching Van Helsing and when the wolves started howling, he started crying harder than any cat I had ever heard. We stopped watching the movie and didn't watch it for a few years when he was older and used to loud noises coming out of the TV.

I also have to bathe my Chinese Crested Freya once a week to prevent another skin infection (as suggested by her vet the last time she got a skin infection). Cresteds have skin that can get clogged by dirt and can cause infections for some dogs. Freya also gets very oily and itchy if I don't bathe her enough. Some dogs require different care.

A firework that one of the people in my neighborhood set up in tihar (a festival that Hindus celebrate) scared one of my neighbors dogs and then the dog ( whose name was snow ) was lost and scared because of the noise, they didn’t find him and was only left with scooby ( another dog that my neighbor had ) so it’s best not to set up fireworks when your neighbors dogs are around, or any loud and scary noise for that matter.

I got our og when she was almost 8 weeks old. My husband was away for work and they wouldn't meet for almost a week yet. I took one of his dirty T-shirts out of the laundry and put it in her bed. She liked having something to curl up with and associated his scent with good things. When we went to pick him up she went right for him and knew she loved her Daddy.
