I usually don't like low tuned snares, but that copperphonic sounded perfect.
I'm riding the snare for this gig lower than I usually tune it but it's what the music needs. And this copperphonic really handles that tuning well
Fantastic to always see to the point and reliable ways to get into drumming shape and activity. Appreciate the informative content man
I have always found over 45+ years of playing that most folks try to complicate the tuning process, either with snake oil gadgets or hours and hours analy wasted on trying to achieve that "perfect" whatever.
Listened to a great interview with Manu Katche who said he has no idea how to tune drums, some lugs are tight, some lugs are loose but they always sound great.
Don't sweat the small stuff.
Totally agree. That being said, I have a ton of beginner drummers that I teach that are simply confused by it. So having a sequence to go through that gets you to a decent sounding drum is really helpful for them. Then from there they can experiment.

Love love LOVE vintage Rogers drums--great to see you playing them out in the wild! They're also making some really nice new kits now too!
Yea, I dig the tones I'm getting out of them
Gorgeous looking snare!
Thanks alot for this video man 🔥🤘🏻
You bet!
Thank you for this!
You're more than welcome!
Nice tutorial!
One basic thing I’ve found to be helpful (if the gig scheduling allows) requires having at least 2 or 3 consecutive days available with the kit.
I’ll change all the tom batter heads at the same time, cranking each head up to a tension you’d likely never use on any gig - regardless of the musical style - and play on them for a few hours over the course of the time period that you have available.
Not unlike stretching freshly-strung guitar strings, drum heads need to stretch and eventually settle..it just takes a bit of time.
Before the drums get returned to their cases, I’ll loosen the heads back to zero, and use the procedure that’s illustrated in this clip for the desired ‘final’ tuning/tensioning.
This method *almost* completely eliminates the need to chase a drum’s tuning as the drum will usually retain the same sound from gig to gig.
Very beautiful ring on that snare
Thanks! I'm able to keep the snare and all of the other drums wide open on this gig, which is nice
That gong drum peaking out at the end...
Doing Whipping Post yet? haha
Ha! We played it new years eve but haven't since
Please tell me that Gong drum is used for Axe !!!
🙂
For me snare side head will more depend on the gig than the drum, except for a Radio King.
Oh for sure, it ALL depends on the gig. Totally agree
Hello everybody
What up!
If you are ever near me, I'm near Phoenix, I am a new drummer and need help. Plz
Is your drum tech off today?
Lol, no drum tech for this gig
