I have a 2022 ford edge less than 2 years old with a right front thump over bumps , I hope I don't have pull the engine to get to the front sway bar bushing. It could be other issues like a sway bar link, shock strut. This car is too new to start having issues. Are the cars built know that cheap ???
Just replaced the sway bar bushings on a 2008 Honda Ridgeline, finally the clunking sound is gone, and much tighter steering. Thank you! Who could have imagined that $14 could make such a significant change to the front end.
I've been dealing with that exact clunking noise in my 08 cobalt for little over a year now. I've replaced a little more than half the front suspension, but the noise always made an appearance shortly after. (Definitely not complaining though because that car needed a lot of love since the day I bought it) I finally got frustrated with it and started looking at every little thing I haven't replaced yet and low and behold it has been the sway bar bushing this whole time!
Right with you OP! I replaced struts, sway bar end links, brake rotors and pads on my Pontiac Vibe, but the noise all along was for the bushings! This video was fanominal! Thank you!
Thanks for showing how much play it had in it and the sounds. This video was super helpful! I changed out the end links today and I'll pick up some bushings tomorrow morning.
I remember I had to swap 1 stabilizer bushing in my 87 Grand Nat’l and had to use my floor jack to install it cause I couldn’t compress it enough to get the bolts started. Nice having a lift too. She’s tight now.
It is important to put the axle under load to make it easier to put the links on. I tried it with and without the load, and the links fit much easier with the axle holding the weight of the car in a normal position. I also used a bottle jack to slightly raise or lower the axle to make the links fit even better. More videos should mention this technique since it is not always obvious to the viewer where the jack / stands are located, frame or axle or both.
This is a good explanation for the rattling/clunking noise I'm experiencing with my car. I am going to tell my mechanic to check these first. Thank you for your informative video.
In my case it was both the end links and bushings. I assumed that replacing end links would get rid of it, so I cut the old ones off and replaced them. The sound changed, but did not go away. I realized what I thought was one sound were actually two different sounds happening simultaneously. The end links made a harder impact noise while the sway bar bouncing around in the bushings made a softer thumping noise. Though I guess in most cases both the end links and bushings are going to wear out around the same time, so it's probably wise to replace both if either start to make noise.
auzzy - "Seriously great" ??? Hardly. For example, nothing in the video shows location relative to other hardware. Sound is OK. Camera work is OK. Lighting is horrible. Couple six year old jokes is unnecessary. just sayin'
I appreciated your good explanation about replacing the two bushings on the Cadillac. I have a Cadillac 2011 DTS with worn out bushings. You have been demonstrating a very logical step by step procedure. At the end you double check your work and make sure it is completely done correctly. Excellent video of the work done with some good comments which made me smile listening to you. 😎
My sway bar bushings have gone on my gti I’ve ordered some powerflex ones to replace I’m glad I’ve found this video going to attempt it tomorrow! Nice 1
So we replaced two end links on our car they are super stiff compared to the looser previous ones. But now there is clunking at slow speed. is this because they are probably causing more issues with the bar bushings as the links are new and the bushings old? Our car is gonna be a bish to change the bushings as the bar is above the frame and hard to access the bolts.
You should grease the bushings with poly grease - thicker and more tacky. Also dont over torque those frame bolts or use loctite, You'll never get them off. Torque for those bolts typically arent that high. Look up the spec.
Hey Man Great Video. when you check the sway bar for play, do you need to have the car on jack stand with the front tires in the air or the front tires need to be press on the strut? you know what I mean.
Thank you for your video. Like one of your commentators said; you're a great teachers. Very well explained and very easy to follow. Thank you very much.
Might need to be done on my car also. Allready replaced shocks, lower control arms, swaybar end links etc.. but having a bonking/clonking sound up on the floor sometimes. So my suspicious is those bushings. Looks easy to replace.
Great video. The biggest problem I'm having is getting the same and or a straight answer from ANY mechanic as to what the clunking is and prices that reflect the work. Why are most mechanics so dishonest??
With mechanics you gotta tell them straight up what ya want done. Or else the mechanic will replace what they think is the noise do a little research go in be straight forward say I want this done.
Sometimes it's not that they're being dishonest, it's just that it could B anything making that noise. Sometimes it's just a loose bolt. Sometimes it's just a bushing, sometimes u just needed some lubrication. It could B a ball joint. I had an issue once with a noise down there & it was the steering rack. A bolt was loose right there lol I had a friend where his trucc was making a noise for a long time. It ended up being a loose subframe bolt lol You'd B surprised . Unfortunately Sometimes it takes time. & taking it to a shop, u get charged for that time. Hence, why it becomes expensive fast. It's best to do the easy stuff yourself that way they don't charge to checc those things already done. Saves u money
I just replaced the front control arms, sway bar links, and ball joints. There's still a single clunk sound when going over small bumps at around 25-30mph and when I make a left hand turn. I've had a mechanic look at all the suspension components and wheel bearings, and he stated everything looks fine. So, upon my inspection, the sway bar bushings look worn. Almost as bad as the old control arm bushings did. So, I'm hoping that's the culprit and not a upper strut mount.
Hope you found the solution but I was gonna mention the possibility of checking outer and even inner tie rods. I'm assuming you replaced the sway bar bushings when you did the sway links.
I just recently replaced my old sway bar bushing with new ones without adding any grease for lubrication. After driving for about 2-3 weeks, I started to hear the clunking noises which coming from the sway bar bushing. I crawled under the truck and added some Valvoline Multi-Vehicle High-Temperature Red Grease and the clunking noises went away. Now, the clunking noises are coming back, so what am I doing wrong here? 2007 Tacoma V6 Prerunner

Found some on amazon that reviews say will fit but they literally do not make this part for benz owners I guess they want to only sell the whole sway bar... I was wondering if I have a noise that sounds like rubbing when I am at a standstill and I hear it when moving the wheel from lock to lock could that be these bushing? My noise is very different from the clunking noise you were showing and I don't have any play but I was wondering if it could be the sway bar sliding back and forth in the bushing as I turn the steering rack....@@klowny1969

Wasted a lot of time, taking it into the dealership. When they did the swaybar links, they should’ve did the bushings at the same time just to get me out of their hair. intermittent clinking/thunking sound After coming home from a camping trip, my 99 4Runner had an intermittent clinking sound on the passenger side. Never could figure out the rhyme or reason until my brother jumped up and down on the front bumper while I watched underneath. It was a loose bolt on the sway bar link. Two people is better than one trying to figure it out.

I have a 2020 4 Runner, and having the same problem. It happens more when it is cold. Could it still be the sway bar and temperate makes it better and worse? From what you explained on the video, I am not sure temperate would play a part.
I got my rear upper control arms done about a month ago on my Jeep Compass and now I hear a knocking clucking sound coming from the back what do you think that could be
Mine is a 2001 infinity qx4 and when driving 45 m/hour or faster , when I pass a small pot hole or small bump, starts swaying side to side to side. Is it the sway bar bushings?.
On the 2010 cobalt LS there are two options on the bushings. There is a 18mm and 24mm depending on sway bar thickness. Took me a while to find that out
@klowny1969 does the orientation of the bushing slit matter? And did that Liquid Wrench lubricant stop squeaking noises? I’m having trouble with the new bushings. I’ve turned them both ways and most recently used B’laster silicone spray but that only made the squeaking noise worse! And I can’t find any silicone grease in stores. To hell with ordering from Amazon an item I should be able to find at local hardware and auto shops!

Sure..u would have to use a pry bar to help though..Don't forget to subscribe 😉
@@klowny1969thanks daddy 😏
I have a 2020 4 Runner, and having the same problem. It happens more when it is cold. Could it still be the sway bar and temperate makes it better and worse? From what you explained on the video, I am not sure temperate would play a part.
Temperature shouldn't play a role in the noise
Would you be able to feel it in the gas pedal?
Good explanation.
Thanks for this video baby!
Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe and hit that bell
The area where you're driving at the beginning looks very familiar. Are you in Bethpage?
You made it look easy. Thanks for the upload 👊🏼

On the 2010 cobalt LS there are two options on the bushings. There is a 18mm and 24mm depending on sway bar thickness. Took me a while to find that out
Alot of cars are like that..don't forget to subscribe
"Listen to the bumps!" ...but doesn't stop talking.
Damn guy needs to stop talking!!!
🤣
Your the same cry baby on other videos hbu Yu shut up & go watch a video for your deaf self
😂😂😂😂
I heard them just fine.
Good video! What if I have access to regular scissor jack, can I do one side first, then do the other?
yes you can
yes if you have a death wish.
Just remember, NEVER work under a car, supported only by a scissor jack.
Shouldn't the suspension be loaded. Before tightened down. Or does it matter. I was told it has to have weight on tires before tightening?
Does a bad sway bar effect the driving on the highway as far as vibration
Can you do one side at a time or do you it the way you show? TIA
You can..but probably need a pry bar to help you out..don't forget to subscribe and hit that bell 🔔
