  • How good is the Audi Q5 with a 3.0 liter V6 turbo diesel engine? I find out by taking this fully loaded Scuba Blue 2015 Audi Q5 TDI prestige through the Texas countryside. I try to dissect and tear-down this car's flaws and problems and find out which options are worth having. It was hard work. This Q5 was loaded with the Prestige Package, Sport Seats, 20" wheels, and the Audi Exclusive Interior with two-tone Nappa leather and contrast stitching. The EPA fuel economy estimates of 24 city, 31 highway are accurate, and the 2nd generation 3.0L V6 diesel engine produces 240hp and 428lb-ft of torque.

    my dad has one with a malone stage 2 tune; has about 340hp and 530 Torque now, with the transmission in sport and the traction control off, its such a wonderful vehicle to drive.

    After watching about 15 other reviews on UA-cam I finally strolled across this one. By far the best review. Nice work. Thanks a lot. 🍻

    Great video. I felt it was very honest, like I was talking with a friend rather than a salesman.

    Love your videos. We have a 2016 q5 TDI with the exclusive line interior package, prestige package, sLine plus package, and the towing package. It's the best car we have had! Great to hear another persons opinion about the great car!

    Very tastefully specced q5. Looks amazing with these options!. This actually looks like a luxury vehicle unlike the base ones which can pass for a civic.

    This 2015 Audi Q5 TDI is Scuba Blue Metallic. If you like this color, check out my video on the 2016 Audi SQ5 in Sepang Blue Metallic ua-cam.com/video/ocpYFvLfocY/v-deo.html

    I just subscribed to your channel. I enjoy your reviews of TDI vehicles and related news. I am about to purchase a preowned 2016 Audi Q5 TDI premium plus from a local Audi dealer. I look forward to driving this fantastic luxury SUV, as my wife and I became German diesel car fans, after purchasing a preowned (loaner) 2015 Audi A3 TDI from a local dealer last year.
    Any thoughts on purchasing an Audi TDI after the VW emissions scandal? We might not be able to buy another similarly equipped luxury diesel (mid-size) SUV for the deep discounted price and with our favorite exterior/interior color combination.

      +Mervyn De La Torre You only live once. I would be concerned about lack of maintenance and support if things do go wrong. It is going to be a gamble to stick it's diesel in the US at this point. 3 guilty pleas don't help the cause.

      @@DieselDrives I am looking at a used 2015 Q5 TDI with 97k on it. I was also wondering about ongoing mechanical support for the diesel. Any opinion in that now in 2021?? Also, wondering if around 100k I would be having expensive maintenance or repairs?? I appreciate you opinion. Thank you

      Did you buy at Q5 TDI?? How has it been with maintenance/repairs? I am looking at a 2015 Q5 TDI with 97k on it. I am looking for information in how these have been down the road (rather than as a new vehicle) thanks

      @@KS-en8kk Love the Q-5, very reliable and fuel efficient vehicle. We ended up going the emissions control recall, very little difference in fuel efficiency. We are keeping this vehicle for many more years, great comfort ride and spacious interior.

    looks like the us version uses a titronic gearbox not like the eu specs a dsg, if that is correct can you confirm if its the 6hp28 or the 8hp55? also do you consider remaping the ecu? its a different car with a remap.

    Haven't you noticed that the Q5 is a bit noisy on the inside? Our 2015 is on 18'' wheels, factory Michelin summer tires and I can definitely hear a lot more tire and engine noise getting into the cabin than in my 2007 A6 (which is a 3.0 TDI).

    • @xdragosx
      @xdragosx 7 років тому

      A6 is a more expensive class .. q5 is an a4. Difference is up to 3db at 130km/h depending on engine and options.

      Insulate the doors, makes a world of difference. But yeah, it's a cheaper model and some stuff will be lacking.

    I was wondering if you still own the Q5 TDI? Would really love to hear your opinions about whether this is still as great of a car in 2019 as you thought it was in 2015! Cheers man

      Never owned the TDI Q5. I had the gas 2.0 Q5 and it was okay. I also had two A6 TDI prestige models 2014 & 2016 and they are gone. The VW Touraeg TDI is your best bet.

      I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I've kind of been obsessed with the Q5 TDI ever since I test drove one recently but I'll check out the Toureg TDI also!

      That's my Roland R-05 linear audio recorder which I use for backup audio in case the GoPro audio isn't good enough. The R-05 does a decent job but it makes post production a huge effort. I used the Roland exclusively for my BMW USA factory tour, in situations where the camera may be behind me. The problem with using backup audio is the need to slate everything. My driving style needs to change so that the microphone doesn't jostle and pickup noise, plus, I don't want it flying around the cabin. It's more trouble than it's worth most of the time, but it has saved the scene/shot when I'm too far from the camera's mic.

    In your video review you commented about the poor ride quality of the Q5 with the 20 inch tyres. Do you know what pressure the tyres had been inflated to when you carried out the test review? We have just taken delivery of an Audi Q5 S line plus showroom car with 20 inch tyres from a reputable UK Audi dealer. The ride quality on rural roads was initially very poor until we discovered the tyres had been inflated to 49 and 50 psi! When the pressures were reduced to the recommended level (33 psi) the ride was much more comfortable.

    • @DieselDrives
      @DieselDrives  9 років тому

      I was tempted to check psi, but I didn't want to interfere with any of the parameters, as this was a press car. The drive across Texas wasn't completely terrible. Some sections of highway were decent while others were noticeably louder, and a few sections would be deemed un-drivable at highway speeds in any car. Some sections of that highway were in the process of resurfacing during my latest drive in a GMC Sierra Denali truck. In general, the low profile tires do not really suit the needs of a cross county trip such as this. Ideally, a road trip vehicle should have minimal fatigue points, and fatter tires help. However, if owners want to exploit the TDI's torque with canyon runs or sprints on a track, 20" summer tires make sense. This Q5 is primarily more suitable for spirited driving because of the sport seats and big wheels, but it was worth taking on a road trip to see just how capable a TDI can be on road trips. Also, dealer cars likely have higher psi in order to prevent the tires from developing flat spots, which can develop on any tire if the car is not driven regularly. Thanks for watching!

    I also reviewed the Q5's little brother, the 2015 Audi Q3:

      tom jones I wish Q3 TDI would come to the USA. For USA, Mercedes just cut the diesel from the GLK replacement which is now the GLC. BMW still has the X3d and their X4d (diesel) is made in the USA but you can't buy it in the USA ua-cam.com/video/DEyHrDwM45Q/v-deo.html. Small SUV sales are huge and I guess people just don't care. A VW Tiguan TDI would be fun too. But at the moment, the Golf TDI is really the closest thing to a SAV/Small SUV. However, a Q5 TDI with V6 diesel is superb. A Q7 is great because of the extra room and same power. The new Q7 will be radical and we won't see it until March 2016.
