I just drove a 15 diesel today at work, and after being able to drive the sq5 i agree with you because the torque with this car is just too incredible to put into words. I had to sometimes remind myself i was in an SUV lol
Really appreciate the imperial + metric units Nick, but please continue giving us l/100km as well next to the MPG as MPG-only system creates a confusion to us Europeans due to the fact that there is US Gallon and Imperial Gallon, so we have to recalculate everything over whenever we watch your videos. Keep them coming, love your work!
Agreed on diesels for this type of vehicle. I have a Boxster and when it was in for service on two separate occasions, I had a gasoline Cayenne and then a diesel Cayenne, and I can't for the life of me understand why they even offer the gas one. The diesel is perfect for such a heavy vehicle.
“silly grille”? respectfully, you’re out of your mind. their signature grille is part of what makes audis the best looking cars on the road. its be interesting to see how it changes over the next 5-10 years though.
Nice vid. I rented a TDi Q5 last month and had it for 9 days. Loved it! Very responsive engine. Fast SUV. Nice size (for 2). Economic. I just missed the USB ports! And the model i rented had no parking assistance, (nor even a sensor or something). But it was a great experience.
why are your reviews just so much better than everyone else's?? amazing review as usual. except you forgot a main competitor! hard to forget acura's 50,000 yearly RDX sales
I used to several decades ago wanted an Audi. The lack of USB ports, sufficient headroom in the back for someone 71'' and up, and no third row seating are turnoffs for me. I wouldn't thought that the diesel engine would be more fuel efficient than then the hybrid engine in a million years!
Great review. I love the Q5. They are so popular, that when I was looking for one earlier this year, I literally could not find a CPO loaded up the way I wanted. And NO CPO diesels. Bought an X3 instead.
Hi Nick. Big fan og your channel. I live in Denmark and have recently bought a 2016 Audi Q5 2.0 TFSI 230 Quattro. I actually watched this video before my purchase, and was very intrigued by the 3.0 TDI's performance, low rpm torch and impressive fuel economy. However, a Diesel engine needs a certain use of mileage to perform well, and since my family and I only average about 10k miles a year, the Diesel engine simply wasn't the right engine choice for us. I write this because your high recommendation of the Diesel engine lacks that perspective. I also think the transmission needs a special mention when recommending a new car. In our case, with primarily slow city driving, the regular tiptronic automatic transmission in our Q5 suits our driving characteristics much better, than the DSG S-tronic transmission, which could be argued as more performance oriented. Here in Europe, diesel powered cars is a very popular choice (40 % in DK if remember correctly) but I think a lot of people forget to take into account, the daily use of their newly vehicle, and hence ending up with early clocked DPF's and/or transmissions that needs special repair. I am by no means an expert in engine and transmissions design, but I often see it overlooked in car reviews. If you have any thoughts on this, I would love to hear it. Keep up the good work, and let's get some more drone shots ✌🏻
My family has a 2015 Q5 TDI Prestige with the sLine plus package, and the exclusive line interior package. Great car! Would be a great replacement for the Golf you've got 😏
your video makes me want to move out from LA. so green and gorgeous scenery. now i just wish BMW would bring back the more powerful diesel version of the 3 series (like 335d or 340d).
VAG's been caught cheating emissions testing, so they'll be recalling these to correct. Once the recall has been completed, expect reliability, fuel economy and resale values to go out the window. Good job, VAG. Can you say "lawsuit" in German for everyone?
I think it would be great if AUDI would put some kind of device into their vehicles that would allow the passengers to convert their casette tapes to laser disc format on the go. I would save so much time and fit perfectly with the company's business model. I think it's a little sad that they don't have usb technology available yet but I hear that they plan on installing a very elegant PEZ dispenser between the back seats on the new 2017 models to compensate for it.
The CD player I can understand not being needed (although I still purchase CDs perhaps I'm the only one who does that anymore) But SD card compatibility is a must in my opinion. Its so nice to always have music in the car, the Blaupunkt system I installed in my Golf has it and I frequently use it, my dad uses SD in his A4, and all my VW and Audi driving friends use it too wit their factory systems. I really hope they don't omit that for the upcoming generation.
+Ayrton Mutagaana The CD slot is actually capable of playing a DVD as well on tje Q5 with the MMI Plus (navigation - part of the technology package). The only problem is that it won't play the DVD while driving (at least without the VIM mod).
Diesel Review Thats pretty cool, actually. Then I retract my previous statement about how the CD player could be omitted because knowing that I now want an MMI Plus car haha
Nick, as a TDI owner for a few years now, I'll offer my two cents. The Diesel engine virtues are most apparent on long freeway drives, where the ambient noise virtually obscures all the Diesel engine associated NVH. However, despite the smoothness of modern Diesel engines, they are still a minor step behind gas engines in NVH, particularly in city driving with idling at stops. I'm at an age where I've begun to appreciate and miss the extra refinement of a gas engine, especially when I just want to get home from work with minimal stressors after a long day.
Nick, I'll be honest... I couldn't care less about the car, I can't be bothered... but I'm such a fan that I had to watch it. To prove that I did, I'm simply amazed by some of the video shots you made in this video. I mean the lake shots, the stuff at 3:13 is just the stuff you hope to see from the likes of Top Gear or Fifth Gear and I didn't... I'm a complete noob when it comes to photography or videography, I can barely take a selfie in the mirror, but that stuff is just amazing. I didn't like the way you speeded up the video at around minute 6... maybe my laptop took a break. Anyway... cheers, hope to see more and damn that rear head room is a disappointment, I would walk away from that car, even if I were in the market for a Q5.
+mowglilp Thanks for the kind feedback, slowly slowly I am trying to improve the production quality of my videos. The hardest part is finding the time as the best shots are often the most time consuming and I only ever have limited time to work on videos so something has to give. The drone shots in this video were pretty easy to do so I hope for more in the future as well as some other clever drone stuff.
+mowglilp seriously, along with that classic Nick Murray humor...these videos are simply a joy to watch, I must have seen every one of his videos at least three times by now
+xkrnxboix One thing to note for the diesel... do they require more frequent maintenance than the gas variant? If I remember correctly, that was the case for the Porsche Macan and Cayenne.
The Q5 is gettong a little old now, sales are still there and Audi actually doesnt need a big replacement. Same story with the A5 Coupe, i think one of the best shaped coupes on the market. Of course I would go for the Macan but the price gap is huge...
ah for f - sake Nick, you never mentioned if there was any "deviated stitching", in fact I'm most disappointed you haven't mentioned these two words in recent Vids, even the helicopter reviews!! man you got to get that phrase in somewhere in each video, it's your trademark! keep the videos coming Nick, excellent detailed reviews all round
Hi Nick. Thanks for another fun and well done review. Love your thoughts and insights on this car stuff. By the way....I forgot, but how do I get my lps onto my cassettes?
Looking to buy a luxury crossover SUV (either Mercedes or Audi but probably not BMW)before I start medical school. I wish I could get a diesel but I live in one of the coldest states and don't have a garage!
+The Tech Man Had my Q5 TDI out of the garage in the sub-zero MN winter, starts like a champ every time. And what a great time to be looking at luxury crossovers, that Cadillac XT5 is just a stunner.
+Red Cuffs I am not surprised even some of my friends own that horrible car against my advice or possibly just to annoy me. People go to great lengths to annoy me it seems. Still the new NX200 is really a great car so I have high hopes for the replacement RX.
I love the diesels, although I think the a6 is the better car for it. The SQ5 is nice, but the European version is much better. I would love the RSQ3 though!
Since I can't afford a new German car, I decided to go used. however; I can't make up my mind, Q5 TDI or X3 Diesel? Reliability and long term ownership numbers matter. Anyone cars to make recommendations? Cheers
In my opinion, the VW Touareg is another car that can be compared with the Q5. They have similar power and size. The Touareg has more horse power, torque and can two 3300 pounds more than the Q5. On the other hand, Q5 is lighter and more fuel efficient and of course the Audi badge...
Good job on the review. I agree on the annoying pricing, which all the Germans seem to do at some level. For example seat memory and garage door openers, standard in Japanese cars since the late 90s and you still have to upgrade an Audi to get them. Mind bendingly stupid.
I love torquey diesels, you can be really lazy with gear changes. My 1.9cdti is only 150bhp/236 lb-ft but from the chart in your video thats not too far off a car with 70bhp more, plus I most likely get double the MPG. Diesels are also very easy to tune. One thing to consider would be if the car has a DPF fitted, those are quite the pain if you don't do a lot of motorway miles. They get clogged up easily if you just drive to the shops and back.
+ThatGuyNamedScott. C I would but the gearbox isn't the best even on standard power on these cars (astra). I wouldn't mind one of those boxes that only affect the map when you press the sport button, standard power otherwise, that would be nice.
+ThatGuyNamedScott. C my friend remapped his Golf 2.0 gt tdi to something like 220 and it blew the turbo up lol It's a nice car to drive tho, but I drove a 1.4tdi polo once and it was depressing, 3 cylinder diesel lol god it was slow
"You can put small kids back here, but it's not gonna be safe." Or legal. Speaking of kids, can you quickly mention in your reviews if the model you're reviewing has LATCH connectors for child safety seats, and if so in what positions? The safest place is the center, but many cars, including my F30 BMW, only support left/right installation using LATCH (you can still do a seatbelt install in the center, which is just as safe as LATCH if done properly). Thanks! Noticed you stepped it up with a drone, nice shots! Finally, no way this over SQ5, sorry Nick (: Just because it ain't no M4, doesn't mean people driving it don't want to have some fun. The "lots of torque down low lets you be lazy with gear changes" argument is largely moot with today's crop of forced induction gas engines. Diesels do excel at highway cruising, if you do a lot of that this should be at the top of your list.
+CarsCarsCars Great points, thanks for the feedback. I will try and remember the LATCH positions for you. Yes finally getting some of the drone shots I have always wanted. More to come.
+Peter Linares Most of the cost is in materials. The engine is made out of different material to withstand the higher compression and the exhaust treatment system that needs to be added to treat the exhaust.
+Kenzo Chin I would imagine it's just another GoPro - they tend to give a much better shot when the lighting is better, in this instance outside of the car. I could be wrong though.
+Kenzo Chin I use a Canon 5D SR or Canon C100 II with various lens for outside shots. In fact I use these cameras wherever I can but not inside the car because while they are better quality the size just gets in the way.
+Nick Murray I get what you mean! Sometimes a gopro really does have their benefits in terms of size. Man I wish I had so much toys like you. I bet Tui takes selfies of herself using your camera when you're not looking
In Germany we have the Audi SQ5: 313 Diesel HP as well as 650 nm. That car is just brilliant.
That would be the one to have
Yeah the UK got that one too
+Nick Murray Come over to the UK you could drive and review my SQ5 if you like. The torque is amazing.
Only downside is sport suspension.
Nice aerial drone shot at 1:18. Production value!
I bought a 2015 used a few years ago and I agree the engine is just awesome.. smooth and powerful and rides very nicely... Love this car.
Great video Nick! It boggles my mind too that the entire VW-Audi group refuses to put a simple USB jack on such high-tech cars.
+subaruwrxfan They must think that it is a fad that will pass : ) Thanks for watching Matt
+Justin Yes that was me, I often see people looking at that sticker : )
Has the video been shot in 8k? Man, the video clarity is awesome. Good job, Nick!
I just drove a 15 diesel today at work, and after being able to drive the sq5 i agree with you because the torque with this car is just too incredible to put into words. I had to sometimes remind myself i was in an SUV lol

The Q5 TDI is possibly the most common version here in Southern California! Lovely car, but very common..
+Torrey B Interesting, we see none of them here in the east
Hello Nick,
Just answered the question, the drone.
Simply awesome.
Brilliant vid
EASTON! That shot of the reservoir is beautiful

+Kyle Cronin Thanks Kyle, the drone is finally being used.
Great review. I love the Q5. They are so popular, that when I was looking for one earlier this year, I literally could not find a CPO loaded up the way I wanted. And NO CPO diesels.
Bought an X3 instead.
love the choice of your background music
Nick I swear, you made like four U-turns in the same parking lot. By the way, love your reviews!
+Harry Singh I did indeed, I was doing a loop that way I don't get lost : )
Very good review Nick. I like the new Drone shots :)
Sheers a lot with the Macan... sheers its architecture, sheers a lot of its DNA..... and in this one, it sheers an engine.
Nice car I look at 2016 pre own !!! But it so updated interior and exterior. (
A dozen mentions of no USB, but not one of the incredible Quattro AWD being a standard feature in all Q5 models??
I agree about the diesel! The best.
Beautifully shot, nice work!

Great review, I considered the Q3 and possibly the Q5 in a few years down the road
Fantastic review ,very well presented Q5 TD the best 😊
You forgot Volvo XC60 as a competitor Nick ! =P
+Nick Hammer This is true. I have access to a brand new one so there might be a review if I have time.
I got this car today I was so excited
Great video congrats on hitting 50k subscribers
The drone shots looks great :)
Please do add more of them in upcoming reviews as well.
Thanks
+arjun ananthram Indeed I will
Nice review Nick!!! Greetings from Ingolstadt!

+drummerlauw Don't start packing just yet... Winter is coming...
Nick, I think you should have test driven the SQ5 rather than the Q5, I find it a great addition to my Porsche 991 4 GTS as an everyday car
Nick, you have to get your hands on the European Audi Q7 DIESEL ELECTRIC HYBRID and test it out.
look forward to your review of the latest Q5!

In before people complain it's not 2016 yet.
Nick, I think you should review the Mercedes G class next. Best SUV I think!
I literally just watch my mom roll up in one of these right after this video. I asked her where did you get? and she told it's my new car
*watched *me
@@SuperLEGOMAN56 post a video of your new car then
Nick, what the music you're using for the intro and end? It's really nice, I love that kind of music.
nice drone shots over the reservoir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+Alice Cheng I know right!!, I expect drone shots on the Alice Cheng channel or I will unsubscribe!!!

Hey!!!!!! its my car.... luv it
1:17 beautiful filming
Excellent review Nick! Could you please test drive the Macan Turbo some time soon?
Planning on reviewing the new Volvo xc90 i heard its 10 years ahead to its german competetions
great video again
You may have to do this review again now that the emissions cat is out of the bag ....
Steve Reiness who cares?
Nice video Nick! Please review the BMW X3 35i. Cheers!
Nice. Loving the diesel. Not as good as my new BMW 430d of course ;-)
+Andrew Coom 430d is a monster
Great review Nick! When you say premium packages I'm guessing you mean the 'Premium Plus' and 'Prestige' packages?
+xkrnxboix One thing to note for the diesel... do they require more frequent maintenance than the gas variant? If I remember correctly, that was the case for the Porsche Macan and Cayenne.
Loved your review but it would have been nice to see how the sunroof works.
New Video! Good stuff Nick! Have you moved into your new home yet?
+Adam A No that nightmare is in progress, moving out of old home in a few days then closing on new house early Oct
Damn it you are so right. I will refocus
Hi Nick. Thanks for another fun and well done review. Love your thoughts and insights on this car stuff. By the way....I forgot, but how do I get my lps onto my cassettes?
+Gipstetz If only there was an LP player in the Audi, maybe for 2017
Looking to buy a luxury crossover SUV (either Mercedes or Audi but probably not BMW)before I start medical school.
Good review.
Nick, did you know the soon to be updated RX350 out sells the Q5 by a margin of 2 to 1? 2015 YTD sales of RX350 52,543 and Q5 26,366
I'd love to add one to the garage, but they are so pricey!
Keep your hands on the steering wheel
Hey Nick can you please do a Mazda CX-5 review??
Since I can't afford a new German car, I decided to go used. however; I can't make up my mind, Q5 TDI or X3 Diesel?
Reliability and long term ownership numbers matter. Anyone cars to make recommendations?
Cheers
What about the Infiniti and Acura RDX or MDX?
Why the video is so short? And you didin't give us specific figures in comparison with other cars :(
Watched your several videos. I am loving it. one question, what are those on the lens of gopro? Thanks
+Fah Zub Just little hoods, helps a lot to remove sun flair
that SQ5 tho DAM
in the US, they call this a Small SUV? i think Q5 are supposed to be like the Mid size SUV, because Q3 is the small one.
How did you get the shot @ 13:08,driving and controlling drone at same time?
my aunt got that car it's so good
What's with Audi's old media system? Matt Farah has been complaining about this for years now. It seems everyone is in agreement.
+Jagh Haringenamn You never know, CD's might come back into style : )
Your video made me get one. I love it Thanks!
Kind of Wanted to
Hear the ENGINE...
Q5 is quite dated in appearance; looking forward to refresh or overhaul
"comfortable, quiet, suv-like car"
In my opinion, the VW Touareg is another car that can be compared with the Q5. They have similar power and size. The Touareg has more horse power, torque and can two 3300 pounds more than the Q5. On the other hand, Q5 is lighter and more fuel efficient and of course the Audi badge...
Were the firm seats u noticed in the X3's both the sports seats and the regular seats? Thanks
Good job on the review. I agree on the annoying pricing, which all the Germans seem to do at some level. For example seat memory and garage door openers, standard in Japanese cars since the late 90s and you still have to upgrade an Audi to get them. Mind bendingly stupid.

+ThatGuyNamedScott. C I would but the gearbox isn't the best even on standard power on these cars (astra). I wouldn't mind one of those boxes that only affect the map when you press the sport button, standard power otherwise, that would be nice.
Crana yeah there good! My polo has been mapped from 130 to 200 haha. Tough little cars!
+Crana My DPF tends to clog up rather quickly as well, but just a few minutes of driving at higher speeds or higher revs help to free it up again.
+ThatGuyNamedScott. C my friend remapped his Golf 2.0 gt tdi to something like 220 and it blew the turbo up lol It's a nice car to drive tho, but I drove a 1.4tdi polo once and it was depressing, 3 cylinder diesel lol god it was slow
hiya mate, where did you buy the ape teddy bears from? they so cute
Pls review the A7 TDi & 328d
Could you try and review the new q7 ?
Wow i saw you recording this the other day. this is in easton correct?
+Jose Temoche Oh really, cool yes I was in Easton
Why us there such a big difference in price for the TDI vs the gas engines?
+Peter Linares Most of the cost is in materials. The engine is made out of different material to withstand the higher compression and the exhaust treatment system that needs to be added to treat the exhaust.
The intro music is a bit too sad for a car review... just saying.
Compare the sq5 with the macan not the q5
Hey Nick, what camera do you use for the exterior shots. They look really high quality compared to other cameras
+Kenzo Chin That would explain why I have so many photos of her
...also Nick can you post a link to where I can get the ec130 model that you had in the ec120 review. Thanks
+lawor8 ebay, not sure if they still sell them but that is where I get most of my models.
