I'm the original owner of my 2015 Q5 S-line TDI with 55k and it has been a joy to own.. a rocket off the line, versatile, plenty of cargo space to haul my life from City to City. 40+mpg..
Thanks guys! First time watching the channel as I was researching buying an SQ5. Good work on reviewing the pros/cons, when you mentioned low rpm ‘turbo lag’ at 15:30 it does feel like that but it actually has nothing to do with the turbos. It’s the pesky EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system which is taking exhaust gases and forcing them back through the intake to try to burn them again! Most diesel manufacturers jumped on this stupid bandwagon to quote better emissions. This feels like lag but it is basically the car struggling to breathe until the end of 1st into 2nd where the fresh/unused oil/air mix overwhelms the dirty air and the car can breathe again giving you full power/torque. I have a highly modified track car that started life as a BMW 123d but now has an Alpina spec BiTurbo engine, the first modification was to remove the EGR and the difference to low rpm performance was night and day. Keep up the good work and I hope this information helps. From a BMW & Audi guy! Oliver SQ5 (yes I bought one!) = Family bus BMW/Alpina = track day fun without the family!
Thank you for watching and thank you for the kind words! I was always under the impression EGR systems are only active at partial throttle? (Pardon my knowledge if that's incorrect) But, much like yourself, any car I own the EGR valve comes straight out and you instantly feel the benefit. Wow, a 123d track car, that's an unusual choice! I'm guessing it performs well on track??? Thank you for the info! - Drew
@@accelerateyoutube Thanks for the reply Drew! The 3.0 D V6 BiTurbo engine is a corker, I had that unit in a modified A7 I built (I could find a picture if you like Audi's?!). Even if the EGR isn't activated there is always a build up of soot left over as the system isn't 100% efficient. Remember, EGR/DPF systems were only invented to cheat emissions figures, they do not help an ICE unit in anyway. ICE engines get their lowest emission performance at 90 degree engine temp so throwing exhaust gases back through is already asking a lot and on top of that have you seen the cost of an EGR/intake clean?! c£600+ in my opinion it's a ridiculous technology and don't get me started on start/stop!! 123d track car - yes it performs very well bang for buck! 12 track days and I haven't been overtaken......yet! The first mod was EGR removal, I drove it before and straight after, it was a massive difference and the EGR/intake was filthy with soot, no good for the engine. Before it came off it had no real go under 1400rpm (also thought potential lag) but when the EGR came off it picked up around 800rpm and now 1st gear performance is insane! I have a 7 stage map programme on it (changeable on my phone via bluetooth) so on '1' it has 211hp/333lbft and I get 500-600 miles range (if driven like Lance Stroll!) but on '7' it produces 304hp/444lbft and that's plenty enough for track days believe me. Do you guys do Track Days much? Need an Instructor?? 🤗 Cheers, Oliver

I bought a brand new SQ5 QR back in 2013. I've driven 112,000 kms. I even have a 2' hitch receiver on it and have driven to the country to ride my bike. Overall the car has been good. Been through 3 sets of tyres and currently run Pirelli Pzero PZ4 (R01) tyres. I've installed an integrated aftermarket AppleCar to it. I've recently replaced the front pads and rotors, Front Control Arm and Bushes, 2 rear pads and one rotors. Going in for engine mounts soon. I have a slight weep from the upper sump. However its not leaking and theres no low oil warnings. Hope to keep for another 2-3 years and then maybe I'll get an RSQ3.
I had a 2016 SQ5 Plus which was the “last hurrah” of the old shape. It came from the factory with 340PS/700Nm and I had a mild remap that added about 15% to those figures. They aren’t DSG boxes but my remap did take it from being as smooth as silk to having a slight grab on certain shifts. Mine had a sports diff too. It was an epic car. Regret selling it.
