Trunking is the best hgv job ever.. I've done other hgv jobs and they want you to take the class 1 truck down some ridiculous country lanes or roads.. At least Trunkings just motorways and depots

I have had my Class 1 license for 18 months, and no one will give me a job having no experience. They all ask for 6 - 18 months proveable driving experience.
I am also registered at every agency within a 30 mile radius of me, what you advise I have done and more, still nothing.
The most foolish thing I did was give up my old career for this, I answered the call of my country to fill the "driver shortage" and have lost out, finacially and career wise, just to be told that I am now lazy and need to get off my backside.
Now my only option is to take a zero hours contract for minimum wage, 12 hour shifts 60 hours a week, in a refigerated warehouse working on a line or packing boxes. And to be honest I would rather just claim benefits.
I am happy you are one of the lucky ones and wish you all the best.

@@sivakumars1712 not at all. No company want to give new drivers who pass there test now, because they want the tried and tested, who can come in and hit the ground running. Hi Kay. Just found your UA-cam channel. You give some good advice there about how to get started for lads that are new to the industry. At the moment, for one reason or another, finding work in the transport industry seems to be harder than it has ever been. Respect to you, and I'll see you in your next video.

luckily, there are bosses/companies out there that do take on newly-qualified drivers - but expect to be offered part time (relief) work, starting from £12 an hour. in other words, no you can't pick and choose; yes you will be starting at the very bottom. after a year or two experience its a different story

I passed my test on 2nd June this year, so not too long ago. Annoyingly I had a bit of a wait before I could do my CPC stuff. I've been job searching for only a week or so, so not long. But it is proving to be a bit difficult. So many jobs saying strictly 1 year minimum experience.
I went straight from B to CE so I have no experience driving goods vehicles. I really want to start with class 1 but if I have to for experience I'll do class 2. But man would I love a class 1 trunking job.

I was in the same predicament same time last year I would say sign up to 2 or 3 agencies to get a feel for the job and keep applying for jobs while your gaining experience I would say agencies that work with supermarkets like Tesco Sainsbury’s ect usually take new drivers and pay well too

I am in this exact position now, a lot of companies like the big supermarkets will not take you on without experience. Id recommend going into waste removal, all of their vehicles are class 2 & although it’s not the most pleasant work it will get you your experience while learning the job.

If you are looking for driving work, contact the best known haulage companies in your area who have been going for decades. (there will not be many) or well established manufacturing companies with their own transport department. And keep at them. Force your way in with enthusiasm and be a first class professional from the word go once given a chance. If that doesn't work, cut your losses and find a different career. Crap driving jobs are not worth having.

It took me 1 month to build confidence to a point I enjoyed it, reversing was the most annoying thing the first week but after 2-3 weeks it’s easy, I love it now and don’t regret anything so go for it, the money and experience is definitely worth it.

Hey man, im on a government hgv bootcamp for my class 2 licence. I'm a little concerned about finding work after I get it. If you can understand my concern being a new pass im worried that employers won't touch me with a 10 foot Internet pole.
Is it fairly easy to land a job straight away?
P.s should I upgrade to the big boy licence (artic) or is a class 2 good enough?
I originally tried to gain the licence with warbutons. They were going to pay for the whole thing as long as I worked there for 3 years. It didn't work out (I think the guy who took me for my driving assessment just didn't like me much) they were going to pay me 700 a week when I gained the licence.

    • @Glenn7719
      @Glenn7719 6 місяців тому +1

I went through the bootcamp, straight from car to class one. Id say i was one of the lucky ones, as the first job i applied for, the one i was eyeing up the most, i got an assessment with and offered the job there and then. A month in and loving it, easy trunking work, depot to depots, swapping trailers, having them unloaded etc. Taking home just shy of £600 a week. Yes it could be better, but id do it for less as i am getting that much needed experience. Been told a raise after 6 months, or i could start looking elsewhere, as you've probably gathered, a lot of companies want at least 6 months.
